SMB - domain login from XP not working

I have been testing using my MacOSX 10.5.3 server as PDC for Windows XP machines. I set it up on my test server with no problems. Enabled the SMB service, promoted it to a Primary Domain Controller and then a few other minor tweaks and away we went. I got mapped home folders and login script work really quickly. Because of this success I decided to integrate it into a server roll out I am doing at the moment with an Xserve and OSX10.5.4. I setup the SMB service promote it to a PDC and everything is perfect. I get a clean built Windows XP SP2 machine connect it to the domain, reboot, go to login but I get an error saying that "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable or because you computer account was not found....".
After check things several times as well as other people confirm various options I am lost.
To add further confusion I went back to my test server removed my XP machine from the domain and re-added it to start testing my problem and holy cow I got the same error message.
The only difference is the 10.5.4 update I did after I setup my test server must have changed something thats stops me from logging in. Can anyone help??

Hello hope you can help. I have a 24 inch Mid 2007 Intel iMac. It has been great until now. I recently did the Maverick update and now my login screen does not work. When I wake the computer up the screen appars with my picture icon. When I click on it nothing happens. If I click on it a second or third time the beach ball appears and nothing happens. I have to shut the unit down with the power button and when the unit powers back up everything works normally. Are there any suggestions out there? I have updated the software without resolution. Is this computer too old? Do I have to buy a new one?

Your iMac can support Mavericks according to the requirements > OS X Mavericks: System Requirements
Try a Safe Mode boot. That deletes some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
See if there's an improvement for the login screen.

You can reset the password.
How you do it though depends on the version of OS X you are running.
On Lion or Mountain Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. Select your administrators username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if it is not already selected. Follow the prompts to reset the password. Restart the computer from the apple menu.
If you are using the Keychain, you will lose your existing one, and have to start a new one, unless you remember the old password.

WSX Login Cred. Not Working In Win. 7

I have workstation 10 on a windows 7 machine which runs serveral VM's very well. I moved one of them over to the shared VM section and installed WSX server on the same machine to try it out. The install went fine and i can connect to the WSX server on the same machine and any other machine on the network but the windows login credentials do not work. I have two admin accounts and neither of the logins work.....however, when i make a brand new admin account and try to login into WSX it works fine. As soon as the machine restarts though that same login stops working. I have no idea what is going on, you guys have any ideas?

I have the same issue. I attempted the resolution by BlazerGT with no success. I have found the issue to be persistent with both domain and local accounts. For local accounts simply deleting the account and re-adding it was a workable solution but I have not found one with the domain accounts. If there is a log for failed authentication I would love for a developer to let me know where this is as it would be greatly helpful to be able to diagnose.

After a restore from Time Machine my login password does not work.

My HD crashed and I replaced the HD. I then restored from Time Machine. After it was done restoring it prompted me for my apple ID and password and account info. Now when I try to login, the password does not work. After several failed passwords, it says I can reset my password using my apple ID. How do you do this? I click on the message and it just disappears. I can't login!

Is it your actual Apple ID login password that you're talking about (which is obviously working since you got into this forum) or the password for your user account. If the latter, simply boot to your ML Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and set a new password via Terminal.
Boot into your Recovery partition and, from the Utilities menu, open Terminal. In Terminal, type in:
resetpassword
...a small app will run allowing you to select a user and change the password for that use. Enter the new password twice (the second time to verify) and give yourself a password 'hint'. Then reboot and use your new password on your account.

Stick the OS X 10.6 install disk and reboot the computer holding c down.
Second screen in is a Utilities menu with Password Reset, try that.

RDP from internet not working in Hyper-v VMs

Sorry for my english .I hope to explain clearly my problem .
I 've Hyper-v on Windows 2008 server r2 . I've 3 Virtual networks ( External , Private and internal ) .
In my VMs there are two domains . The first one is bound with internal Vn and the second is bound with private Vn. My Host RRAS is configured to switch inbound connection RDP (3389) to a second RRAS (Virtual machine bound with private network) . Last
RRAS does port forwarding correctly to the machine for RDP connection ( port 3389) request .
RDP works only from host and VMs but not from internet in private vn.
RDP from internet connects but when try to configure session disconnects . Any ideas ?
Netstat says "SYN-RECEIVED" then disconnects .
All other services work fine (http mapped between RRAS host and RRAS vm i) and RDP works in private virtual network from internet . I think the problem is nat over nat for port 3389 in internet connection . I've tried to disable firewall but
not works .

Also add firewall exception "from" any or specific ip "inbound" "to" whichever destination.
To truly test, you ca disable firewall, if it allows rdp session, then you know it is something with firewall.
Remember sometimes antivirus software includes firewall., and in the case of home routers, they have built-in firewall, and Windows also has firewall, so you must be sure to check ALL possible locations of firewall blocking and dropping (even server-to-server).
Basically you would be allowing inbound from your router, NATted through (or routed through) your network, to the destination or allowing inbound from server to server. Also
double check that your server NICs are not having any additional 2nd DHCP interfaces, if so, disable the secondary DHCP NIC and test again. And do:
traceroute
From Internet to the server having the issue and from server to server and it may uncover more details of where things are getting dropped.
I have heard also some ISPs may also try to block inbound RDP or 3389, so be sure and verify that as well.

Immediate login, custom redirect not working correctly

I have a page with some conditional regions on it: show if user is logged in, else show something else. That sort of thing.
This page is a tease to convince users to register so there a prominent "If you're a member, log in here, if not register for free."
If someone clicks the Register button, they are taken to the registration page along with a url variable to identify the place they've just come from.
The registration page has an Immediate Login trigger on it - which has always worked without a hitch.
The registration page also has some conditional redirect triggers attached to the registration insert. The conditional redirect triggers GET the url variable being passed and if the condition is matched, the registration page sends them back where they came from - just like a login function would - registered and now logged in due to the immediate login trigger.
This has all worked wonderfully until this past weekend when the whole system fell apart.
For reasons unknown, the immediate login has stopped working. The redirect continues to work but people are correctly returned to the page with the logged in/logged out conditional regions but doing so without getting logged in, so of course they see the same stuff they just saw - stuff telling them to register or login.
Immediate login continues from every other direction, just this particular set of redirections seems to totally wonk out the person returning from the registration page properly logged in.
Anyone with any experience with this kind of thing? It's very essential to the way my web operation works.
I deeply appreciate any interest or advice.

Nope. This is the strangest thing I've encountered.
After changing the conditional trigger to AFTER, it worked once. I logged out to test again. Now it's right back to not working. Shut down the browser too.
As before, the redirect works as it's supposed to but the user gets redirected without being logged in.

Login thru JSP not working?

Remote login from home to work

Hey Guys,
I am sure this is the wrong place to post this question but i'll try anyway
I would like to connect to the machines at my office from my home - we are in the video/film post production business, and do a lot of CG rendering that can take days/weeks to render.
It would be great ti login from home to check how these renders are going - in case the software has crashed or needs some help of some kind.
I know these days it is possible to use the 10.5 Back-2-Mac stuff, but these work machines do not have .mac accounts. Also I would like to connect to the windoze machines as well.
I am guessing we would need remote desktop / VNC.
I went to a whatismyipaddress website and got an IP address for the work machine. When I tried to connect to it from home it just didnt work.
Is there some sort of thing I need to setup on the router at work?

"Old" update rule from ODS not working

Hi Gurus,
I need to set up the "old" fashioned update rule to load data from an ODS1 to another ODS2.
The thing is that I need to set up an update rule because I need to implement a Return Table Routine that is not supported (as far as I know) by the new Transformation/DTP.
When I select option (through the right mouse click over ODS1) "Other Options" - "Create Update Rule" it takes me out of the RSA1 and leaves me in the main menu making it impossible to create a new update rule.
The strange thing is that I have this working from and ODS to an InfoCube.....
Suggestions, a workaround??

Just to confirm that this is not working. The tys_TG_1 structure only shows me the target infoprovider structure. Check that in the how to, to be able to derive employee first you need to assign eache source_filed to the result_field leaving employee blank.
I need to have in the same place, the source_field structure (source infoprovider field structure) and the result_field structure (target infoprovider structure). That is what the "old" return table gives me as in the same place I can have the communication_structure (source infoprovider field structure) with the return_table structure (target infoprovider structure).
Just to understand, in the source infoprovider I have 12 Key Figures (1 for each period) and I have to split each incoming record to 12 records. If I work only with the result_field structure tys_TG_1 and the result_package tyt_TG_1 I'm not able the see those 12 KF.
So... return table functionality is not fully supported by BW 7 as far as I know.
Any other ideas why I'm not able to create the old Update Rules from an ODS?

Can only add music with Autofill from Library (not working with playlists)

I can only add music using the Autofill feature and it will only work when the main music library is selected. Autofill does not work when a playlist is selected and I can not add music directly by dragging songs from a library or playlist as described in the owner's manual.
Is there something wrong with iTunes, the iPod or is this user error?

You're right it's the same for me.
I don't know as you mentionned whether it is an user error or not but I've got 2 iPods now, one is 60 Go color display (60Go) and the other received yesterday is 2G iPod Shuffle (Clipod). I can't drag songs from 60Go nor to iTunes Library neither to Clipod Music. The autofill function works only from iTunes Library where I've got 5 songs only (new MacPro), somebody knows how to export 60Go music to iTunes Library ?

Why is my symbol loaded dynamically from library not working?

The code in "Example1" work fine if the video symbol is located on the stage. But what I'm trying to do is load the video symbol from the library dynamically and that doesn't work as illustrated in "Example2".
My question is why does Example1 work and Example2 not work?

Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

"Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet" not working

I'm about to begin re-ripping all my CDs (400+) which I haven't done since at least 14yrs ago in order to take advantage on newer/better formats. I was excited to see that iTunes can automate a lot of this process with the following two options:
- When you insert a CD: (Import CD and Eject)
- [ ] Automatically retrieve CD track names from internet
Found in the "Playback" settings of iTunes 10.1.1
However after inserting my first CD, I noticed it started to import without downloading the track names first. Obtaining track names manually is working for me because if I choose "Advanced -> Get track names" it accesses Gracenote DB and works fine.
It's just the automatic operation after inserting a CD that is not working. This causes me to have to:
1) Insert CD
2) Choose "Advanced -> Get track names"
3) Click "Import CD"
4) Eject
as opposed to the one supposedly promised step of "Insert CD" and have the other 3 things happen automatically.
I've tried deleting my iTunes plists in my ~/Library/Preferences/ folder but it still works the same.
Any suggestions?

You can seach the Gracenote site directly. I don't know if that would help you decide which option you needed to use.

Notifications from Mail not working in iCal

Notifications from Mail are not working. I have set the proper setting in both iCal and Mail with no luck. .ICS files show up in Mail when I search but they don't populate of show in the Notifications window in iCal.

The same problem here. It used to work for a while. But after the last update it stopped working.
if I get an e-mail reply to an event, it does not update the attendee list.
i figured out though, that if you drag the .ics file onto iCal window (events part), the attendee status is updated and event is marked as done, but there is still a question mark in the upper part of the event.
obviously a bug.
