SMB keeps dropping out and slowing down

I have a user in the office that is using windows 7. They are connecting to the server but about 2 or 3 times a day the connection either drops out or the connection to the server becomes very slow and then seems to rectify it's self.
I have captured some logs of around the time it happens may be some one has an idea what could be causing this.
This was a disconnect from the server. Stopping and restarting SMB fixed it.

The machine is not bound to the server they are just using standard log on, but the user is an open directory user.
I possibly think it is something to do with smb cache as that seems to be referenced a bit.
Any ideas.

there is no security rick changing to b/g but if all your devices are 'n' rated then there is no point.  However if they are not then enter 192.168.1.154 into your browser then enter hub manager then wireless where you will be able to make the change to just b/g

  • Hi, my iPad 2 keeps dropping out and going back to blank screen, I then have to enter my password again, start downloading or reading and it happens again. I have reset the iPad but it is still the same.

Hi, my iPad 2 keeps dropping out and going back to a blank screen. I have to again enter my password and go back to what I was doing and then it happens again, I have tried resetting and nothing has changed.
    Thanks
    Ron

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Help me!:audio keeps dropping out and coming back in while importing clips

While importing from my camera (brand new Canon Xl-2) to imovie, the audio from the tape keeps dropping out and coming back in for some reason. This happens with all my tapes. I've tried using a head cleaner and that didn't help. I'm using a Maxtor external hard drive to save the project on. The project itself is kind of big (about 80 GB) Can imovie support projects that large? Could this be a problem with my processor?
I'm just frustrated beyond belief right now. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
these our my specs: Processor: 800 mhz. Memory: 1GB SDRam. The disk space icon at the bottom of imovie says i have 151 GB of disk space left.

    Hi e
With a slow computer one has to minimize the hassle.
    I would
    - repair permissions
    - cheque that nothing else is taking resourses from the job (energy saver,
    screensaver, File Vault etc.)
    - I would move material to my ext hd so that I got > 80Gb free (for a 80Gb
    project)
    - nothing else connected than my Mac + Camera and import.

  • Can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

  • Regular drop outs and slow speed, likely to be noi...

    Hello,
I'm hoping this works, I've had some success on other forums.
When I signed up, I was quoted a speed of 11mb, for info, I'm near the centre of Worcester city, so hardly the middle of nowhere, but I'm aware I'm open to exchange usage and attenuation.
I can currently download at around a max speed of 230kb/s, way below what I would expect from 11mb. I noticed that the phone line was very noisy when I moved in, so I am tempted to blame that. I've done all the checks and had everything connected to the master socket (it's a rented property, so I'm nervous about pulling out fixtures and what-not) but to no avail. I called the helpline and after going through the script but was told there was no problem on the line, unfortunately.
In the last week, I've begun to experience regular connection drops, several times in an evening.
    Here are some router stats:
    Downstream: 1,180 Kbps
    Upstream: 664 Kbps
    ADSL settings
    VPI/VCI: 0/38
    Type: PPPoA
    Modulation: G.992.3 Annex A
    Latency type: Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up): 4.4 dB / 2.7 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up): 44.5 dB / 24.0 dB
    Output power (Down/Up): 0.0 dBm / 10.6 dBm
    FEC Events (Down/Up): 131879 / 1358784
    CRC Events (Down/Up): 156 / 457
I had a similar issue with TalkTalk which ended up with a call out, I'm hoping this isn't needed here. Is it possible for the forum staff to look into the situation?
    Many thanks,
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Blimey you're fast on here, thanks for that. I'm nowhere near an expert on this, but I do know what I need to know.
I'm just trying this in case I've forgotten something daft.
I used the master for about a day but gave up after no improvement. The silent test is far from that, more crackles and pops than the eponymous cereal, that's why I'm suspecting that over proximity of electrical equipment etc.
Bit more info. I'm in a block of flats, and because I've had a corded phone directly in the master and still got a noisy line, is that more likely to be outside of the property rather than in? I'm trying to avoid the cost of a call out and I'm sure the landlord doesn't want his walls taken apart.
    Anyway, lovely stats:
    1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Download  Speed
    1415 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    2000 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1415 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 800-2000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1793 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 800 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1581 Kbps
    2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    529 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    800 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 529 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 800 Kbps
Bit shabby for an 11mb line no?

  • Eeek! Timeline audio keeps dropping out and I'm on a deadline!

I'm REALLY hoping someone has experience with this issue. I search the forums, and was unable to find anything quite like what I've got.
I've got a 25 minute project in a FCP X timeline. For the most part, it's a simple string-out of ProRes 422 video with AAC audio.
While playing, the audio drops out at random times for random lengths of time (usually around 1 to 8 seconds).  The dropouts do not occur in the same place with any sort of consistency. It happens every few second, and it's making editing impossible.
FCP X is the only running app, and I've killed all the obvious background processes. Rebooting doesn't help either.  I've watched Apple's activity monitor and seen no spikes in CPU or disk usage during the silences.  Based on other audio issues I've read about, I tried coping all the content into a new timeline. That didn't help.
I'm running out of ideas, and more importantly, out of time.  Can anyone suggest a fix?
    Thank you in advance!

Holy crap!  The media is AAC.  How did I miss that?!  I even typed it!!!  I think I must have confused it with AIC (which isn't even an audio codec).  Good lord.
Ok... I'm recompressing some of the footage right now -- just to make sure that's the culprit, which it likely is. I'll report back shortly.
    Thank you, Tom!

  • IPod's wifi keeps dropping out and will not locate any networks.

I got a new iPod a few months ago to replace an old one that had a white screen, and it can connect to my internet but after about 5-10 minutes, sometimes less it disconnects and when I try to reconnect it doesn't even pick up my wifi network anymore. If I restart it it reconnects for about a minute then disconnects again. I have tried everything, restoring my ipod completely, restoring the network settings, restarting it, turning it off and on and turning off the wifi then on again, and nothing works, the problem is still there. My internet is not the problem as I have also tried restarting the router and it does nothing, and all the computers in my house work fine with the internet. I've run out of ideas.

II would try with another network. If it also occurs with another network that would indicate a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
If it works OK on another network that points to a problem with your router.

  • 3G connection keeps dropping out after 4.2.1 update

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could help me.
I have the iPhone 4, and it was working perfectly... until I upgraded to iOS 4.2.1.
Ever since then, my 3G connection keeps dropping out, and I'm just left with vodafone UK (with usually 3-4 bar signal) but no 'o', 'E' or '3G' symbol.
After about 20 minutes of no cellular data, I'd get the 'o' symbol, then 10 seconds later it would change to '3G'. But then after 5 seconds it would lose it. The cycle would continue in this way.
Strangely, when at home, the 3G would stay connected. But when I go anywhere, I lose 3G.
When I turn 3G off, I get constant 'o' connection where ever I go. It doesn't drop out.
I've tried resetting the phone, and resetting network settings.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

I'm having a similar issue with my new iPhone 4 (w/ 4.2.1)... It continually cycles through the following sequence:
    AT&T / 3G
    AT&T / No Data
    Searching…
    Searching… 3G
    AT&T / 3G
    (loops…)
Here is a video of the cycling. Note the iPhone 4 is just sitting on a coffee table in my house.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7186070/ip4fw421searching.mov
Also worth noting, I just got the iPhone 4 and I updated it to 4.2.1 right away. Previously, I had a 3GS which did not exhibit any of this behavior in the same location in my house. Also, my girlfriend still has a 3GS and has FW 4.2.1 without these issues. I have a video of her phone in the exact same location taken just after the clip above and her phone maintains 3-bars / AT&T / 3G the entire time.
I picked up the iPhone 4 while out of state over the holiday weekend and did not observe any of these connectivity issues, in fact the 3G throughput of the iPhone 4 was significantly better (consistently got >4 Mbps down / >800 Kbps up) than what my family members were seeing with their 3GS models.
I believe it is a baseband issue introduced with the 4.2.1 update for iPhone 4, but I also strongly believe there is some tower component to this problem (ie, software revision at the tower or configuration).
Like others here, I also performed a restore to 4.2.1 through iTunes and setup my phone as "New" and I continue to see the behavior. The phone is unusable in my house unless I manually disable 3G. As a final data point, when I'm able to maintain a 3G connection long enough in my house I get the following throughput from Speedtest.net: 1863 Kbps down / 543 Kbps up.

  • Is anyone got problems with iPad 2 and iOS 8 ? My service provider keeps dropping out. I have to restart it everytime any way I can fix this

Has anyone upgraded to iOS 8 and have found that the service provider keeps dropping out? I have to restart my iPad to get my service back. Only happened after upgrading! Would love A fix for this.

I'm not going to say that you won't find an easier solution than the one below, but I would recommend it as the "ultimate" solution.
keithfrommariettaOct 12, 2014 3:25 PM Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgrade
Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

    Re wifi:
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Sometimes USB external drive problems are resolved simply by plugging them into the mains power and trying again.

    Hello sstefanik
Check out the articles below to troubleshoot your issues with getting a proper connection with Wi-FI. Try creating a new Network Location and join your network to see if you can get on that way.
