SMB network fonts are showing unix format in snow leopard

All,
We just bought new new imacs with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and almost all of our fonts located on the windows shared network folders are showing up as Unix Executable files with 0kb.
Kindly help us resolve this issue.
Thanks,

axt and ge fonts are showing in illustrator middl east version of mac

    Hi Mark,
Well, something is corrupt. The problem remains even after signing on
as another user. Now, another machine (also a quad core G5) is having
the same problem. This second mac has not shared files with the first one. Sometimes the glyphs from the fonts are just not
there, and at other times they are replaced with symbols.
One can immediately view the pdf properly and without error by opening it
    with Acrobat.
So this problem is intermittent (it goes away for a while after rebooting),
occurs whenever pdfs are viewed with Preview (e.g. from within Safari
or straight loadad into Preview). This is getting very very annoying.
I'm begining to think that only a total re-install will solve the problem,
but since it is now happening on a second machine, I'm worried that
    something more insidious is happening.

  • Just updated to 10.8.5 and certain fonts are showing up

Just updated to 10.8.5 and certain fonts are showing up.  For example, when I go to my stocks widget, part of it is unreadable.  See screen shot.
I've noticed it in a few other places too, but its not universal meaning I can still surf the web without any issues so far inside Firefox.  Any tips to fix this issue?

Thank you.  I did this and got to this point where still not sure how to proceed.  Do I need to delete something??

  • Best directory for isnatlling Unix Applications in Snow Leopard?

Can someone advise me on the best location for installing Unix Applications in Snow Leopard? Should I install them in /usr/local or create a new /opt directory for them? My understanding is that OS X 10.6 does not come with /opt. I prefer to install manually and not use third party software (e.g. Fink).
    Many thanks.

If you are downloading and compiling your own sources, then /usr/local/... would be the expected location.
If you are using the MacPorts.org already ported packages, then get placed in /opt/local/...
If you are using Fink.sf.net already ported packages, then the get placed in /sw/...
And for a few Unix tools at work, and I can not modify my host system, I put it in $HOME/local/..., which works for me because my company uses NFS to allow the use of my same home directory on multiple systems. This works as long as I do not exceed my corporate home directory storage quota

  • Font Problems: Installed fonts are showing as un-installed in CS6 and are not avaliable to use.

    Hi,
Installed fonts in the Windows folder(which have been installed for agaes), are now not showing up in Illustrator CS6 since we have installed the suite. The font name shows in the box, but it has an astericks next to it. It is getting annoying not being able to use our regular fonts, as other people from different companies send us their artwork to change, and we can't display the fonts in the file, dispite them beiong "installed" into the system. We have tried re-installing them , and this ocassionaly works once, but when illustrator is re-installed or computer is re-started...they go back to being "unavaliable.
Please help! Is this a common bug in CS6? It is driving the whole team crazy!

Delete the system's font cache and any adbefnt.lst files you may find. Also make sure to run with sufficient user privileges.

  • Network user cannot migrate AppleMail account from Snow Leopard to Lion 10.7.1.

I have a network user that is trying to open Apple Mail on a mini running Lion 10.7.1 for the first time.  This user previously used a mini that is running Snow Leopard.  Apple Mail is trying to perform an import I assume because Apple Mail 5 on the Lion is different then the version running on Snow Leopard?  The import fails and says to press Continue to allow the Migration Assistant to create a new library.  When we do this, the system responds that the Mail Index is damaged, to quit and reopen Mail so it can be repaired.  We get the same set of messages when we close and go back into Mail.
When I access the console logs, here is what I saw:
    10/18/11 12:23:01.647 PM Mail: Upgrade failed because of exception: Could not move /Network/Servers/server.aigtechnologies.net/Volumes/Data/Users/javier/Library/M ail/V2-Temp.noindex to /Network/Servers/server.aigtechnologies.net/Volumes/Data/Users/javier/Library/M ail/V2; ERROR: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=513 "“V2-Temp.noindex” couldn’t be moved because you don’t have permission to access “Mail”." Permission denied"}
My interpretation of this message is that either the ACL or POSIX permissions are not set correctly for the user.  When I log into Server Admin and check this though, ACL is set to allow Full Control for the user's folder and all children folders.  The POSIX is set to Read&Write for the user's folder and all of the children files.
I read some of the discussions and tried removing all of the contents of the V2-Temp file, but this creates the same result.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Library Fonts not loading in CS3 under Snow Leopard

I just noticed this: Most of the fonts in the HD/Library/Fonts folder are not being read by CS3 applications. This includes old favorites like Verdana, Trebuchet, Arno Pro, etc. These fonts are being read by Apple apps like Pages and Text edit. Anyone else having this issue?
I think a solve would be for me to have my Font Management application load these fonts.
    Details:
I installed Snow Leopard on a freshly erased drive. Updated to 10.6.1. Installed CS3 Design Premium. Ran the Adobe updates (which was much more difficult than it should have been!)
    Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

CS 4 and Cs 3 they load as expected on my Mac Pro? Tr resetting the preferences.

  • Continuing font encoding and tag issues with snow leopard and CS4oI

I am looking for help with a font handling issue with snow leopard and cs4 Indesign. Despite numerous calls and hours on the phone neither Apple nor Adobe has been helpful. I have had this issue open with Adobe since oct 5 but they remain totally unresponsive to date. I need to be able to use Type 1 fonts and do the following , export a pdf from Indesign with the following attributes: 1) xml tags for stories and objects. 2) have the fonts encoded as ansi and embedded.
Some additional information  - exporting to ps is not an option as it destroys the xml tags. and doesn't guarantee that the fonts won't become CID or some other odd encoding.
    As it stands now,
Leopard (10.5.8) and CS3 creates ansi encoded fonts with xml tags.
Leopard (10.5.8) and CS4 creates ansi encoded fonts with xml tags.
Snow leopard and CS3 creates ansi encoded fonts and xml tags
Snow leopard and CS4 creates custom subsetted fonts and some xml tags.
If any one has any advice on how to force specific font encodings from CS4 pdf exports so that i can preserve the tags and get the correct fonts I would be grateful.

The font encoding is not a function of the OS version, but rather of how a font is internally encoded and the content you are representing with the font.
If you are seeing a difference between MacOS 10.5 and 10.6 with the same Adobe software, it probably has something to do with use of a system font that is somehow different from one version of the OS to another. InDesign does not use any of the OS' font handling software.
Assuming that the fonts are embedded, subset or not, what is your issue with whether a font is ANSI-encoded, custom-encoded, or CID-encoded? It should make no difference for purposes of workflow beyond InDesign for software that adheres to the PDF specification (including all versions of PDF from 1.3 and up to 1.7 plus ISO 32000-1 PDF and all versions of PDF/X and PDF/A).
Neither InDesign or any other Adobe application provides user choices for the encoding since it shouldn't make a difference. The encodings chosen by Adobe's core technology components are for a combination of optimization and to support proper text search, copy, etc.

  • Format with snow leopard install disk gets stuck at apple logo

Hi, I have a MacBook pro 17" which I want to format but have no install disks however I gt the mac os x snow leopard 10.6.3 disk from pc world today. I have been trying to format with that disk but every time it gets stuck at the apple logo, my current version is 10.6.6. Any help would be great

Does your machine meet [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html]? What system was on it before, and why are you choosing to reinstall?
Does the disk you have obtained have a picture of a snow leopard on it, or is it gray? The latter will not work.
What model MBP? If it's very recent, the current retail SL disk may not work... only the disk that shipped with your machine will. Call Apple for replacements for a small fee.

  • Please help.. How can a RW DVD show up fine in Snow Leopard but not Lion

Hiyah, I've just taken a RW dvd to my local Apple store for them to sort me out but they are all flummoxed.  Episode 8 of Game of Thrones shows up as such in Snow Leopard but I bought a new Imac last week and Lion refuses to show the correct file.  Series 2 Episode 8 shows up as Series 2 Episode 6 in Lion.  I opened the file in Lion and it plays ep6 but on my pc at work it plays ep8 so I know it's the correct download.  Has anyone else come across this?  Also do you think it would show up ok if I used a memory stick instead of a dvd?
    Thank you

Is it possible to recover files that were emptied from Trash, overwritten?
A professional data recovery service such as DriveSavers can recover them, but the cost of doing so can be hundreds or thousands of dollars.

  • Want to upgrade from snow leopard to lion, need to purchase an external harddrive to b/u my stuff.  will formating for snow leopard be ok when uploading to the new system (lion)?

oh sorry, I thought that was where we put the question   I am on an extremely tight budget, but since I do shift work, I wanted to use the iCloud funciton to keep my calendars uptodate on my pc/mac mini/and iphone. Wish there were a way to do it for free on my snow and snow leopard OS, but sinc e I cannot, I am wondering about formatting the external harddrive (which I have to purchase). If I format for the snow leopard, will there be a problem re installing the information into the new snow leopard OS machine?  Also, I am wondering about the older Mac Pro I have that is the OS before snow leopard (Snow, I believe) will I be able to use this same HD for backing it up to upgrade it (at a later date)?
    Thank you for your help.
    Deb

so sorry, I mean uploading information from the back up (ex HD) onto the new Snow Lion OS.  (and later doing the same with the Mac Pro which is the system before snow leopard.)  TY

  • Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

    Hi,
are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.
    Thanks!

We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

What version of word do you have? The TS3938 sounds like it's a PowerPC app- written for an old architecture that is no longer supported in Lion. If this is the case, your files are fine- you just need a newer version of word that will run in Lion in order to open them. The newest version (2011) should be readily available anywhere, and has worked fine for me ever since I switched to Lion on release day....

  • UK format of Snow Leopard

Would anyone know what format Snow Leopard will be in when it arrives here in the UK ... that is, will it be as a disc, a purchased download from Apple or both?
And will the fact that I have not yet updated my Mac to 10.5.7 matter?
I was assuming that Snow Leopard would include all the previous Leopard updates rather than simply add to them ... but someone wiser than I told me not to assume anything in such circumstances.
