SMB sharing shows ALL drives

There was very old unanswered question - https://discussions.apple.com/message/7609694#7609694
ML 10.8.2, sharing enabled. A single admin user (me) on ML
If I connect to Mac from Windows 7 machine I see all the drives attached to Mac (inc NTFS USB drives via Tuxera driver)
Not only they are visible, but thay are also accessible (RO)
Is that the way Mac SMB sharing behaves (it should NOT IMO)
Seb

I thought the problem was ACLs, but it was a directory name problem -- and I just completely overlooked it.
We had folders like this:
2005 photos
-> 01/05
->-> 01/13/05
The slashes are outside the SMB specs, so they simply didn't show. Now I guess I need to find a way to rename the folders in bulk, but I know what the problem is.

  • Xserve Raid Not Showing all Drives Empty - No Green Lights on Xserve Raid Drives

I have an Xserve Raid.  I recently set it up with my Xserve server with fiber cables and now when the Xserve Raid system boots and starts all the drives show as empty in the Raid monitor.  Not sure if I have something configured wrong and I think I shut it down incorrectly before I got it hooked up right.  When I first got it I was able to see the lights on all the drives but now it boots but no drives show up at all.  I have fiber cables to the host Xserve machine and the Xserve Raid plugged into the network with only 1x  ethernet cables (not 2 if that makes a difference).  When I try to manage the Xserve Raid all drives show as empty even though all the 500GB drives are plugged in.  Not seeing any green lights when the Xserve raid boots indicates something is up.  I reset the controller cards to stock with the paper clip to factory settings.  Does anyone have any ideas on what to try.  Anyone have this issue?  I haven't found any discussions except one that had a single side of drives go down because of a bad controller card.  My Xserve Raid shows no drives at all.  Any help is appreciated.

Expansion is a 2 step process: First, you expand the array. Second, you merge the slices. The documentation is clear on step #2, but the GUI doesn't FORCE you to do it. However, it is necessary.
If you did both steps, try rebooting your host and see if it picks up the changed size. It does work... the usual issue though is growing the file system to recognize the additional size. On Linux, I can't help you.

  • File sharing exposes all drives on systme

I am trying to enable file sharing so that i can see and use the files from my new MacbookPro on my Windows machine and vice versa. I only have one account set up on the Mac which is the administrator account. I am also running Parallels in the backround but this is not the windows machine i am trying to connect to.
I open preferences and turn on file sharing. In shared folders the only option is the administrators public folder. Then i click options and choose "share files and folders using SMB". I then choose the only account available which is my admin account.
When I go to my windows machine and open my network places, it shows and allows me access to all of the drives on my mac. This includes the hard drive, the CD drive, the parallels virtual drive and anything on my desktop.

This shouldn't be a problem. In the "System Preferences", click on the "Sharing" folder icon. On the "Services" tab, you'll need to enable "Personal File Sharing" for both computers.
When the service has been started on both computers, you can now connect. In "Finder" you'll need to map to the drive by clicking on the "Network" icon. If you don't see the icon, you should be able to find it under the "Go" dropdown menu.
Now that you are in the "Network", look for the name of the other computer. Click on it. You should be prompted to choose a drive to connect to on that computer, and possibly asked for the password on the other computer if you have set that up. When prompted enter the password, and choose the external firewire drive.
That firewire drive should now appear next to all the other drives in "Finder". It should remain there until you disconnect or power-down. Sometimes sleeping will cause it to disconnect as well.
I have found it best to eject/disconnect from mapped drives before shutting down. You'll probably get a bunch of warnings if you power-down before unmapping the drive, though I haven't had any real issues because of this.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Bhavik,
I tried patching the saposcol service but still no luck.
I was using patchno 32, now patchno 55. I read and followed all the steps in the notes you provided but still can't resolve the issue. I even cleared all the dev_coll and log files after patching. Below is the output of the logfile. Same error.

  • Finder not Showing all Drives

I tried to back up one of my extra internal hard drives with a drag & drop feature in the program. However, when I dragged & dropped the hard drive it went poof and does not show up in the finder window anymore. It does show up in the disk utility and I verified the volumn to see if that would "bring it back", it did not. I've restarted, pulled the disk out and then remounted it. How do I get the computer to recognize the drive again. It doesn't show up anywhere but in the utility.

Now that I removed the drive and then remounted it, it doesn't show up in the Utility. It was properly formated for Apple and has been working for a couple of years. I have no other MAC to try it on. But, like I said it was working fine until I drag & dropped it.

  • SMB sharing not listed all the files

    Folks,
We've got a G5 desktop machine running 10.5.8. It had been sharing a RAID array -- Buffalo DuoStation, 2tb, mounted with Firewire -- with AFP for some time, and apparently that had been working fine.
But the AFP sharing didn't show up in file sharing at all. We had to set up Windows/SMB sharing, turned it on, it came up just fine.
Except a huge number of the folders are simply not showing up -- like, a majority. Sharing is set to everyone read-only. It's a photo archive, so I can see every day for 2011, but I can't see any of the months for, say, 2005. Only thing that shows is .DS_Store is in the second-level folders.
Because this is already in production, and I don't know the RAID setup or anything, I'm reluctant to try to run Drive Setup etc. on it to look for permission problems and the like.
    Any ideas?
    Mike

I thought the problem was ACLs, but it was a directory name problem -- and I just completely overlooked it.
    We had folders like this:
    2005 photos
    -> 01/05
    ->-> 01/13/05
The slashes are outside the SMB specs, so they simply didn't show. Now I guess I need to find a way to rename the folders in bulk, but I know what the problem is.

  • SMB share not showing all available files

    Hi,
At work I have to connect to several SMB shares. Most are fine, however 1 of them does not show all the files that are on that share. I know I'm using the right domain, username and password. I've checked the console and can see this message repeated when I connect.
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
    mbgetmem(449): incomplete copy
I'm using OS X 10.4.8 and have no idea of how to proceed. My IT department do not support our Mac's so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Kieran

excellent reply. Thanks for the details.
    Oh, one more thing-
this 30-item limit is just in this same troublesome share.
Before the day gets away from you, ask the network admin to check permissions on this share. Perhaps the 30 files you see are the only ones that you have explicit rights to view.
they may need to ease up on restrictive permissions on this folder/drive.
(Images over a network can be funky, since Mac wants to display a little thumbnail of all those picture files...if you're viewing 'as icons', what happens if you change to 'by list'?...thinking out loud there.)
(not sure if I posted this...lost an open window for a few minutes :o

To downgrade, you'll need to download the previous software version here: ATV3 http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4361.20120605.grjot/AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    ATV2: http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4362.20120605.t8i4U/AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
Next, plug the Apple TV into your computer with a micro-usb cable (most phones today use these) and start up Itunes. It should detect the Apple TV in recovery.
After that, hold down Option on Apple or Alt on Windows and click Restore. This should open a window that allows you to select the software update you want to apply. Select the one you downloaded earlier.
It will then go through the restore process, which takes only a few minutes, and then you will be able to plug the Apple TV back in to your display and set it up again.
I recently ran into a similar issue with a bunch of these things and after restoring them all to the previous software version they are working again.

  • I have a new hard drive as my old one crashed. Everything seemed to transfer fine except for my entire iTunes library. It shows all of my old songs, but when I click on one it states "the song could not be used as the original file could not be found

I have a new hard drive as my old one crashed. Everything seemed to transfer fine except for my entire iTunes library. It shows all of my old songs, but when I click on one it states "the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.would you like to locate it".
Either how do I locate it, and I've tried every trick I know, or how do I restore all of my songs from one of two sources. I have my old hard drive backedup on an external drive which should have all of my songs, and I have most of my songs on my old iPhone 3S which I'm using as a backup iPod.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.

  • [newbie] Sharing anchor points across paths/shapes? + Pen visual feedback? + Show all paths?

Hey all, as stated I'm a newbie at Illustrator. Any help's appreciated. My questions:
    1) Is it possible to have anchor points be part of more than 1 path? I want to have 2 adjacent filled paths that share anchor points, so that if I move the common edge anchors, both shapes are affected. Kinda like in Flash, I suppose.
My guess is this is impossible though? Then how do people working with Illustrator a lot tackle this problem? I mean adjusting 2 shapes with several common anchor points (not shared, just in the same position), for adjacent shapes.
    2) Is it possible to set the Pen tool to give visual feedback like in Photoshop when moving the mouse to a new position to add a new anchor point? What Photoshop does is show the path segment that would be created if you were to click at the current mouse position, whenever you move the mouse. Illustrator doesn't show this with me right now, so I'm left to guess what the exact path segment will look like when I click (less convenient imo).
    3) Is there a way to always show all paths on the current layer, even if they are not selected? And I do NOT mean Outline mode, I'm aware of that. The problem I'm facing is that - when working with multiple paths - I want to see them all when adding a new path, so I can easily align anchor points and what not with the other paths, but I do NOT want to hide the image I'm tracing (which would happend in Outline mode).
    Thanks in advance.
    Victor

You might get what you re after using Live Paint. Here I have drawn an oval and a wavy line — two paths. After converting to a Live Paint object I can selectively fill and stroke any closed area or and segment.
    No.
Put the object or image you are tracing on a Template layer. Or Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) click on the eye next to a layer name to change only that layer’s view mode.

  • Shared workbooks shows all folders to users

    Hi
We are in Discoverer 10.1.2.1. Here is my question.
I have user called disco, who is the owner of all standard reports. All these reports have been built from different star schemas and they are shared with set of users.
When the user creates the adhoc report with their own user id, and when they select the fact folder in discoverer plus, it automatically shows only the joined dimension tables and its very nice for user experience. But, the same functionality is not there, when user does "save as" of the existing shared reports into their area. When the users saves the report and try to edit the report, it shows all the folders irrespective of the joins. Is there any settings we need to do, to accomplish similar result as new workbook. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
    I appreciate your suggestions
    Thanks
    Balaji

If all your folders are in one business area then all folders will be visible to all users at all times.
The visibility of folders is determined by which Business area a user has access to utilize, not by the security in a workbook.

  • Finder: Command K does not show all CIFS/SMB volumes on server

    Greetings:
I use the Command-K to connect to a NetApp storage server in our office; if I issue this:
    smb://server
    or
    cifs://server
I only get some of the shares and not all of them. If do the same on a Windows machine by using the command "net view \\server" it shows all the available shares.
Question: is there any limitation? Any tips, perhaps on the NetApp side?
    Best regards
    Claudio

We are experinceing the same issue. It appears to have limitations on the length of the share/volume name.
smbclient from the command line shows all of them but Apple+K doesn't

  • Photo Sharing not showing all photos via Apple TV 3rd Gen

    Hi
Have Apple TV, 3rd gen, latest update of the software. Running 10.8.5 on a mid 2009 MacBookPro. When I select a few smart albums from iPhoto 09 (v. 8.1.2) and then select those albums to share/stream to my Apple TV via iTunes (11.1.3) only a few of the photos show up; in the 3 albums I have selected to share/stream there are in excess of 500 photos. However, when I have my photos selected as the slideshow/screensaver in my Apple TV, only a few photos show up, less than 100, and then the slide show starts to repeat itself.
Any ideas why it's not showing every photo in the albums I have selected to stream/share?
    Thanks, and Merry Christmas!
    David

Are you mixing slideshows and screen savers up, screen savers won't show all the photos in a large collection.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro SMB Sharing problem

    Hi,
    Would love some help.
I have a file server that I recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1.  Problem is, it broke my smb share to 2 Dune Media players and another PC running XBMC on the Openelec platform.  I have spent days scouring forums for information and tried
every reg hack and security/sharing fix I found but to no avail.  I have since refreshed windows 8.1.  I did however just have a breakthrough.
The problem is that the 3 devices above all worked great before the update, now I'm getting errors when ever I try to access a file on the smb share.  On my Windows 8.1 file server I have am running storage spaces with about 8 discs amounting to about
16TB of storage, plus an SSD with the operating system. What I just discovered is that if I share a folder on the C drive, it can be scanned and accessed from any of the media players.  Therefore it's only the 'storage space' drive that won't authenticate
    an smb client.
    Thanks
    Allan Phillips

Thanks Alex, I had tried that a few times.  Finally after 3 weeks I found the solution on the WD forum.  Solution is as below.
Re: WD TV Live does not see shared windows USB drives that are connected via hub
    Options
    ‎01-24-2014 12:46 PM
Well, nobody offered any opinion so far, but I was able to solve the mystery.
It is all about the old IPRStackSize of the LanmanServer (Windows NT is greeting us again).
I was taken off, because access seemed basically to work (at least with Windows machines).
But the Windows 8.1 event log then told me very clearly : event 2011, irpstacksize not large enough, please increase.
This event occurred whenever I tried to access the shared drives from my Android devices or especially from the WD TV Live. The only difference netween these 2 systems was that on the Android devices I could at
least see the drives (but could not really open them), while the WD TV Live did not even boither to show me the drives.
Now, I have no clue about the actual limits for the IRPStackSize in Windows 8.1 (the values changed from Windows version to Windows version). So I finally used the limit I found for older Windows systems :
    32 (x20).
And it works now like a chram as it seems.
By the way - I found stories about older Windows systems, where people increased the value to 20 (x14). So I tried that value first. With the result that I could not access any drive from other network units at
all. So, the default value for this in Windows 8.1 must be even higher than that. I don;t know what it is, but 32 (x20) is obviously higher.
Long story short : it is a Windows 8.1 (possibly already Windows 8) problem. And it can be solved by creating manually an entry in the Registry to add the IRPStackSize parameter with the higher value (as you know,
when this parameter is missing, Windows uses a default value, which is obviously too small for drives connected to a hub and accessed by any kind of Linux systems.
I still don't have a clue, why the access request by a Linux based system requires obviously more stack size than a request by a Windows machine. That is still something that makes me shake my head.
Here a little procedure copied from Windows NT solutions :
    1. Run regedit.
    2. Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
    3. In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value.
    4. In the Value Data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is listed.
If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, if the previous value was 11, type 14, and
    then click OK.
    5. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize even more. The maximum value for Windows 2000 is 50 (0x32 hex).
NOTE: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, use the following procedure to create it:
    a.
In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
    b.
Point to New, and then click DWord Value.
    c.
    Type IRPStackSize.
IMPORTANT: Type "IRPStackSize" exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.
