SMC Firmware 1.4f12 has stopped my RSD (and increase speakers volume) but..
My black MacBook week 23 began RSD about a month after purchase. Initially I blamed the meditarranean summer, that's usually hotter than the suposed MB operational range of 10-35Cº. Finally, when RSS went worse, in mid September I called Apple and got a case number, but I didn't send for service because early repairs get RSD again more sooner than later
Following some hints on forums I almost reduced to zero the RSD ocurrence in normal use, but the MB kept on crashing under yes >/dev/null/ & test on cold or warm, but not on hot.
Yesterday October 26 I installed the SMC firmware 1.4f12, and I haven't had no more RSD even with the stress test. Although it's soon to consider an ultimate solution (if some wire isolation is melted/damaged by heat, no firmware update will fix it) I consider a big step ahead that RSD can be avoided by ignoring the erratic temperature sensor data that suposedly the overheated wire defect caused
Anyway, let's see if it works for all (or at least most) the affected, mine was not one of the worst cases, but some users claim to have had RSD after this firmware update, so let's wait and see
By the way, have you noticed an increase in volume on speakers? I've had, and some other users too, but some don't. I don't know how it can be related to firmware update, but it seems to be somehow
You should check if the SMC firmware update is actually installed, in Applicatios/Utilities/System profile Hardware is the SMC version that should be 1.4f12 after last update.
If you don't have the SMC firmware update application in the Applications/Utilities something in the download and installation process seems not correct, because after downloading you must do the actual update from that application with some warnings about being plugged in and don't interrupt the process.
The fan behaviour has improved on my MB after that update, sounds estrange yours is not. But maybe my Fan Control applications have somehow change that, I use smcFanControl and Lobotomo Fan Control, search the web if interested, I prefers the last one because it gives more options thatn smc

I am so upset. Please read my messages from my postings. This has nothing to do with SIM Card, Hard Reset, Apps, Google Gmail Account, nothing. I have gone thru all of this and NOTHING has fixed this. I went to the store today and spoke to the manager on duty. He said he had to try and duplicate the problem before he could help me. I showed him "screen captures" I did, told him it's out here on the board, etc. etc. Needless to say I ended up coming home with the same phone, "he" erased the phone and started over again. Well guess what, it's not a error with "MY" Gmail account being corrupted because if that is the case Mrs. Hayden14 has a bad Gmail account too. If you guessed it, the phone just crashed again! I was able this time to capture a report with ALL the history in it and saved screen captures to PROVE to him this is not a joke. Even the report says "Crash". This time it was something else I don't even or ever have used. I have also wasted over a day , yes a full work day on this without question.
I have had to get the run around for the last day. This is totally ridiculous, including them putting me on hold for 55 min. Oh, that's another funny story. Anyways, tomorrow morning I am going to the Verizon store one last and final time and I hope they decided to do the right thing and give me a phone that does not crash and works. It would be handy at work for me, especially where I work at. I hope hope hope someone listens to and helps me. I would love for them to see me walk in, take my phone and say to me were going to get you another phone, hand it to me, see if it works and prove it's the device. I don't hear anyone having this issue on other phone types so sounds like its the phone type.
I have had 3 phones now in the matter of 2 weeks. I am sure the FedEx charges will add up to a cost of a new phone at some point and start to outbalance your requirement to give me the same phone when it has the same problem.
Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow. -
My DVD Player in my MabBook Pro, System 10.8.2, has stopped accepting discs and is no longer recognized by the DVD driver. I purchased an external Blue-ray Disc player/writer. It is a Samsung. I downloaded their driver so the drive shows up on my desktop. But how do I switch the DVD player over from my internal to my external drive?

Hi there.. iphoto has stopped uploading photos and the programme has frozen on me. It assembled the book (step 1.), then did not complete the upload (step 2). Prior to these steps I provided my C/C detals and paid for the book. i had to Force Quit the iPhoto app, and now wondering what to do!? If I try to buy the book again, then it asks for my C/C details...
Did you get a confirmation email from Apple? Click on the Store button at the top of this page and use the Account ➙ Track a Purchase link. That will tell you if they received your book. Apple doesn't charge the card until it is shipped. You can also check with your credit card company to see if there's been a charge from Apple.
Try previewing the book by Control-clicking in the background of the view all pages in iPhoto and select Preview Book or Save Book as PDF:
If that process fails then there's a work around for it. Boot into Safe Mode and preview the book again to make sure you can get a PDF of the book. If you can then order the book while still in Safe Mode. Save the PDF file to compare with the printed book. If the PDF file is satisfactory the printed book should match it.
What size book are you ordering? Xtra large?

Dashboard has stopped working. The App will open, but none of the widgets will function. I've deleted widgets & added new ones, but they also will not work.

We have a MacbookPro at home. There are two user-acounts on this mac, one for my wife and one for myself. This way we keep our personal stuff (e-mail, files, settings, dropbox, desktop clutter etc) separated. "Fast user switching" is enabled to easily switch to your personal account.
Now when I open Photoshop I might get the dreaded "License has stopped working" message. This will happen if Photoshop is left open in her account. So I'll have to log into her account, close Photoshop, go back into my own acount and open Photoshop again.
I should not get this message since Photoshop is not part of a particular user account, it is installed in the "Applications" folder which is accesible to all users.
What makes it even more annoying is that I get the "License has stopped working" message on trying to open Photoshop even when Photoshop is closed in in the other acount, but Illustrator is opened.
This makes no sense since we bought Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 as separate programs, not as a part of the Creative Suite.
I did not report this to Adobe yet but it wil do that now. -

Have you checked that MMS messaging is switched on in the Phone Settings? Even if you thought it was, settings sometimes get changed. The only other suggestion is to talk to your network provider about it.

That is not good, lets see if we can get your email back up and running again. Take a look at the article below to go over the settings to just make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. You may end up needing to remove the email account and add it back in.

Hi my iPod touch gen 4 has stopped working properly and App Store will not load but Internet will, also you tube also won't load. Any ideas? Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

You can try one of the CD/DVD cleaning discs but I doubt it will work. Your superdrive has probably failed.
you can have Apple replace it, for around $120, or buy any brand external DVD drive that connects by USB port and it will work with your Mac. Most cost around $30. -

When I make a change to the calendar or reminders on my machine, it will often bog down and run slowly. I have done several trouble shooting steps without result. these include:
Restarting my computer.
Running Disk Utility diagnostics for both permissions and disk verification.
Checking that my internet and network is working.
Checking that I am properly logged in to iCloud with my ID on my machine and that I have set everything to sync.
Checking my iCloud settings to stop syncing Reminders and Calendars and then setting them back to sync again.
Any suggestions?1. Calendars in the On My Mac or On My iPhone/iPad/iPod category, and calendars that sync with other network services such as Google, will not sync with iCloud.
2. Back up all data, then take all the applicable steps in these support articles:
iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar
iCloud: Advanced Calendar and iCal troubleshooting
Nearly all sync issues should be resolved that way. Please make sure you've taken all the steps and tested adequately before continuing.
3. If there are any calendars on your Mac that you don't synchronize with iCloud, export them by selecting them in the calendar list and then selecting

from the menu bar. Quit Calendar.

I had Partitioned my Macintosh HD, so now it has two, Macintosh HD and Macinyosh HD 2, but the question is, my computer has an minor update OS X 10.8.2 to 10.8.3, i wan to move all the files as BACKUP to the Macintosh HD 2, but how? Thanks.
As long as the Macintosh HD 2 partition is just the same size as Macintosh HD to avoid problems in the future, then you can clone one to the other using Carbon Copy Cloner, then use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions on both and if you need too you can hold the option key down while booting and select the #2 partition to boot from.
However you need to set CCC to maintain a pure clone, or else by default it will save the changes between clone updates and overfill your #2 partition.
Also the #2 is merely a bootable backup alternative and for retrieving the rarely occuring deleted files, don't use #2 for storage or anything you want to save pernamently.
In addition you also need external clones and backups, as the machine may fail or get lost etc.,
