SMC Firmware needed to fix L Shaped charger issue but get Alert

Hi there - I've seen lots of threads but haven't seen an answer to this yet - L shaped charger, not charging 2008 MacBook - I installed SMC Firmware 1.4 to fix (followed instructions) but when I launch, I get alert saying computer doesn't need it (System Profiler says I have 1.38f5) - the battery is in fair condition and I can re-set SMC to get a charge but would prefer the fix - would love to get some help!

Does the table at EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs show your model as requiring 1.4 ? - according to that, only the early 2008's do.
And it is the macbook update you've tried, right ?. It contains a test to check the model is suitable, so should give the 'This computer does not need this update.' message if not.
I've seen one MBP that refused to work with the L-shape, despite the fact that it should have... Apple paid for an old style charger from another supplier.

Upgraded to 5.4 when opening lightroom get a message "encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and need to quite" tried this several time but get the same error message.  Says Lightroom will attempt to fix the problem the next time it launches but that is not happening.  How do it fix this?

Delete the preview cache using your operating system. It is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not delete the Lightroom catalog, which ends with .LRCAT

  • SMC Firmware Update 1.7 "Installed Successfully" Multiple Times, But Still Not Installed

    MacBook Pro, 15", Early 2011
    OS X 10.8.2
Software Update keeps telling me that I have the MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.7 available for my machine.  I have run this update several times, both through Software Update and through directly downloading it from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
Through either method, running the update yields the same result:  it runs, reports that the update is installed, restarts the machine, and all seems good.  However, if I run Software Update again or check the SMC version, I still have the old SMC version 1.69f3 and the same update is still available in Software Update.
This thread -- https://discussions.apple.com/message/20649193 -- suggests running Disk Utility to find errors.  I have already run Disk Utility to check for errors (multiple times) and no errors have been reported.
This thread -- https://discussions.apple.com/message/21320561 -- suggested running a clean installation of the OS.  The other thread's solution ultimately also was a clean installation of the OS.  Having just done that barely a month ago on this machine, I really would prefer to not do that again so soon!
Has anyone else run into this issue and found a (hopefully less drastic) solution?  Thanks.

I guess I just fixed it.  Do you bootcamp to windows?  Once I changed my startup disk from the windows to the mac partition, rebooted, then dd the system update, the firmware update installed and took hold.

You are obviously talking about a password that you need in order to delete the iCloud account since you do not delete an Apple ID on a device, you sign out of it and sign in with the new one.

  • MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 update available again and again.  How do I fix it?

I have installed MacBook Air SMC Firmware Update v2.0 three times and I still get an update available notification asking to install it again.  This is a mid-13 MacBook Air running OSX 10.9.3.   System info lists the SMC version as 2.13f7.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
    - Are there any status or error messages in /var/log/install.log
    - The Firmware version it should install is 2.12f137
    - If there isn't anything in the log try:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    and/or About NVRAM and PRAM
and check whether there is installation.
If no install, try OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode
then reboot normal, try the install again.
    Hope this helps

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one.  If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

  • I was charged the wrong amount and need it fixed now!

I was charged non-student pricing $359.88 for the year renewal, but I bought the creative cloud as a student and it said it would be per year. I should be paying student pricing. I need this fixed!

    Hi there
$359.88 is the standard student pricing that applies after you have had 1 year at the offer price of $239.88.
    The non-student pricing is $599.88.
    Apologies for any confusion caused.
    Kind regards

my battery on my iphone three is growning and it turns off around 80% then in order for it to turn back on i need to put it on the charger , somebody please help me i need to fix this is there anyway  ican?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, then take the device to Apple for evaluation.
FYI, Apple will not replace the battery without first doing basic troubleshooting or testing the battery.

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • SMC-firmware update 1.4 not recognized

Recently I downloaded the SMC-firmware update 1.4 because my new L-shaped MagSafe power adapter was not working with my computer. For a day or so, I was relieved because the update appeared to fix the charger, but then it stopped working altogether again. After trying multiple methods to fix this (unplugging the adapter, trying different outlets, resetting the SMC, etc.), I discovered that my computer was still running SMC version 1.27f3. I've tried downloading the update manually, but every time it says that my computer doesn't need it. Any advice on how I can actually update the SMC?

It turns out my adapter was actually broken. I went to the Apple store and they replaced it with a new one. The guy at the Genius Bar said the SMC update was only for MacBooks and that the L-shaped adapters should work with MacBook Pros.

  • SMC firmware update 1.4 for Tiger? Does it exist?

    Hey everyone,
I got a new L-style charger for my old (2006) MacBook Pro. Now it doesn't work, which I've come to learn is a known problem related to the firmware (the charger works fine in new MBPs, and my MBP charges fine with the old T-style chargers). In order to fix the problem, I need to install the SMC Firmware update 1.4, but I'm not finding one that works for 10.4.11 (only 10.5 and higher). Does one exist? If not, how does Apple expect me fix the problem? Sink more money into it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You many have to try calling Apple sales/support and ask to speak to a
product specialist about the charger adapter you have this problem with.
There may be a different version of the charger, or an older style new
stock model required for your computer which matches its hardware.
Or, check with a third party reseller of original Apple hardware parts to
see if you can get the original AC adapter without the L variant.
The 1-800-MY-APPLE number would get you the main Apple sales
and sales support division; same as the main web page call center.
Other than this suggestion, due to the difference in build model year,
I have no other ideas at this time. Other than it's time for coffee...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why does my mac book pro 2012 15" w/ retina display run slow during a video game and then an SMC reset seems to fix it temporarily?

When I begin to play Diablo 3 with my fairly new 15" mac book pro with retina display, every now and then my computer will be really laggy when playing it (frame rate of under 5). Normally its performance is really fast with a frame rate of about 40-60 frames per second depending on the resolution used. When this happens I have performed a SMC reset and it fixed the problem. However, every few days it will act up again and I will have to do an SMC reset again. It has now happened again for the third time and I am affraid to continue to perform an SMC reset, is this bad for my computer? Should I take it in and have them trouble shoot it? Any help would be greatly appreciated to figure out what is wrong. Thanks.

So this is what I got when I took my computer into the apple store to have it diagnosed.
After the apple technician performced several tests, the only thing that fixed the issue was an SMC reset. Based on this he figures it is probably a software or firmware issue that is going on. He is a little concerend how ever that the fans of the comupter don't reach maximal rpm when the computer is displaying the issue. So he recorded the problem, and told me to just perform the SMC reset as needed for the next couple months and wait for a new update from apple. If the issue persists I am to go back to the apple store and they will take the appropriate steps.
He said an SMC reset doesn't hurt the computer in any way, so its safe to do. I am gonna contact blizzard and let them know about the issue as well because if it is software, it could be their game (Diablo 3) that is causing the issue as well. If I hear of anything new i will let you know. So get on the blizzard form and let them know of the issue to fix the problem faster.
    Thanks for your help,
    Tetrault
