SMD ?? Unknown Agent System

Hello there,
I have properly installed SMD on Solman40, Agent and Wily on Portal site.
After running/starting /usr/sap/SMD/J98/SMDAgent/smdagent.sh
The name Portal system is visible under http://smdserver:port/smd -> managed systems, but with question mart (?) and message:
The managed hosts are unknown in landscape definition. Please make sure to define and publish your solution from Solution Manager (SMSY)
But I already have ave defined Portal system as "Portal Server" in SMSY
Trying to transport the datas of Portal Server into SMD via SMDIAG_WIZARD, I see none of host defined for Portal Sever.
If I try another system with Abap database, hostname ist visible in the nexp step of SMDIAG_WIZARD
Must it be so ?
Is the monitoring of Systems without Abap (example. Portal) possible only with Wily Introscope ?
Or Have I done something wrong ?

Hi,
You need to start your Agent using smdstart.sh and smdstop.sh (located in /usr/sap/SMD/J98/script).
The script, you used is obsolete.
May you check then the Agent is displayed in Agent Administration page?

PS: there is doucumentation under service.sap.com/solutionmanager -> Release 4.0 -> Diagnostics setup as of SPXX.

Hi Kunal,
You SLD should be reachable from your current system.
For that update your host file with SLD's hostname and test your connection by opening URL http://hostname:5XX00of your SLD server, where XX is your SLD's instance number. Also make sure the user of SLD data supplier exists with proper authorizations.
Otherwise, you can skip this step for now from the setup.
Register your agent on solution manager.
Use solman_admin or other admin user with password.
Update your host file with solman hostname an IP.
Name DAA is fine.

[0xB106] Host is unknown to system

When I look at my Novell Messenger MA 2.0.4 console I see the
following entries:
11:59:24 3D0 SPL Request (Get Other Status) [0xB106]:
cn=UserName,ou=OUName,
o=MBC - Host is unknown to system
11:59:27 3D0 SPL Request (Get Other Status) [0xB106]:
cn=UserName,ou=OUName,
o=MBC - Host is unknown to system
I've read TID 3389997 and completed the following but still see the
error:
1. Open ConsoleOne Right click on the Messenger Service object and
select Properties. - This opens to the Novell Messenger tab General
properties. At the bottom of the page is the section entitled Host List.
2. Click on Add and Browse to the Host that has been created under the
Host Container.
3. Click Apply
4. Restart the Messenger agent
I also looked at TID 3354084, but that didn't apply. Has anyone been
able to resolve this erro???

Adobe Bridge CS4 Unknown Operating System Error

Hello,
I recently installed Adobe Bridge CS4 to my new iMac 10.7.2. I used this software on my Macbook Pro 10.7.1 without any trouble. When I open Bridge CS4 on my iMac, the following message immediately appears: "The operation could not be completed. An unknown opperating system error has occurred." When you click okay it closes and the 'Adobe Bridge CS4 Quit Unexpectedly' box pops up. I've checked for Adobe updates, but didn't find any. Has anyone experienced this problem, or have any suggestions? Thank you so much! I really appreciate any help you can offer me!

Managing Multiple SunFires on an agent system.

In a previous lifetime, I managed one 6800 from the SunMC server, but now, I am trying to manage multiple 6800's from an agent system. To give you an idea, I have the SunMC server that can communicate with a SunMC agent system that has a private network to the system controllers. If I add one Sunfire, I am able to look at it on the SunMC console. However, when I go through the drama of adding multiple system controllers on the agent system, things go pear shaped. I do an es-platform -a system controller a, b, c ,etc, etc. I then do the es-setup.sh -I a, b, c (in the right directory) , then do the es-start -y a, b, c, etc. etc..
When I add the platform to the SunMC server, I don't get a SunFire, I get a simple node. I cant see the platform components (Domains, etc).
I have read the doco but it lacks clear guidelines on how to do this at an agent level. Obviously, if I could attach straight to the system controllers from the SunMC management system, I doubt I would have these problems. Also at the agent level, it seems to lack some abilities, such as DR I think..
Should I keep mucking about with this agent idea or convince our network people to let me change the network so I have direct access to the system controllers from the SunMC server and to hell with those agents.
Or have I simply done something stupid?

Sparsebundle corrupt- Unknown File System

I'm trying to restore from backup using Time Machine. I'm getting an error that either my password is incorrect or the file is corrupt. Pretty sure about the password, so...
I dragged the Sparsebundle into Disk Repair and hit Verify. I got "Verify Failed, Unknown File System".
It there a way to fix this??

Not as far as I am aware. If the image mounts but cannot be repaired I suppose you could try using recovery software but it would probably be easier to erase your TM drive and start from scratch.
General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

Grub error! unknown file system

ive been using arch for the past few days on my computer and i total love it, so i went and installed it on my laptop alongside windows 7, however i get a grub error (grub error unknown files system). i installed grub on a boot partition within an extended partition and i think it isnt being mounted or something, but i havent a clue. could someone please help me out, and also possibly explain what is wrong and also how to fix it so that i may use the info in future situations and please keep it simple because i am new to arch

I wonder how you could install GRUB on a boot partition within an extended partition. I don't see what you mean. If you install GRUB on a separate boot partition and then mount this boot partition on the root file system on another separate extended partition, how could you see GRUB in action? I guess you actually install GRUB on MBR of your HDD, but there are some mistakes in the entry of your menu.lst file. You'd better post the contents of the menu.lst file, and tell us that which partition you've installed arch on, e.g., sda5.

Device unknown in system

Hi,
Our MI server has been hosted by our hosting partner in some years now. But these days we are switching to a new hosting partner.
Our new hosting partner has copied an image of our MI server and installed it on a new server. I can log in to webconsole and in the administration window I can see all devices that was copied from the old server. However, when I try to sync with an "old" device to this new server I only get an "Device unknown in system" error.
I know that a device is assigned a deviceid the first time it sync to the MI server, but what happens in this case when the server image is copied to a new server?

Can you please check the client set on the settigns of the device.
It could happen when MI client is pointing to some other middleware client and MI client has different client in settings.

SMD Diagnostics Agent Backup Strategy?

Posting this question here as well as the Solution Manager forum since we're running SAP on the iSeries.
My organization has just started deploying SMD agents across our SAP landscape and we're considering how this new component (the agent) fits in our backup strategy. Should the agents even be included in our periods backups? They're small, easy to reinstall if necessary, and don't store any data, but would have to be re-registered. Any other backup consideration? We're interested in how other organizations have dealt with this question, thanks for your input!

Hi Robert,
as you already supposed I wouldn't include SMD agents in the backup strategy since they are little and don't store data. What's important is the central Solution Manager System itself. There the data reported by SMD agents is used and stored.

Hey, I wish I could direct you to a good paper about this, but all I really have is http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/tech/aglets which is the starting point I used years ago to do distributed agents. The problem is that they were single-trip agents and not per se `mobile.'
The concept however, is very easily accomplished via RMI through much of the new push for JNDI.
