Smooth scrolling on a horizontal page - how did Benjamin Moore do it?

Hi,
I'm trying to work out how Benjamin Moore did this (in their COLOURSTORIES Canadian Version). We're looking to do something similar (Different content on the horizontal and vertical formats), but can't work out how Benjamin Moore managed to get a scrolling horizontal page.
The screen shot is below:
We're looking, if possible, to have the horizontal and vertical versions of each article smooth scrolling.
Is this possible?
Also, is there a static URL for the features & bug fixes for the most recent release? I'm finding that even searching the forum thows up "This is fixed in the new release" without any reference to what the release is (v21, v22 etc). T'would be a help!
Cheers,
Simon.

Thanks Bob - my problem was not realising the "Scrolling direction" relates to the orientation of the orientation of the articles, and not as the name suggests the scrolling direction. Another fact stored in the noggin for future use

  • Cannot disable "use smooth scrolling" since last updates (10.6.5, firmware)

    Hi all,
since the last updates (10.6.5, firmware) smooth scrolling is enabled in all my finder and other application windows when using the touchpad on my MBP 4.1.
I can check or uncheck "use smooth scrolling" in System Prefs-> Appearance, however smooth scrolling is always enabled.
Any clue how to disable smooth scrolling or fixing it any how?
    Greets, Nico.

I repaired permissions before the combo update and then again after the update. There may be some improvement but now I am sensitive to the flickering and may not be the best judge of it. My wife did volunteer this morning (before the combo update) that the computer seemed to be slower than it has been. She uses it every day and I did not tell her about the update so that confirms what I had felt about it also being slower.
I have the MacBook Pro with 2 video cards in it and I switched to the faster card and there are definite improvements in screen response and with pages loading faster in Safari. Scrolling in Safari is a little smoother but iPhoto is still real jerky.
I'll consider this solved because I think something in the video drivers has been updated (negatively) and it will take a further update from Apple to fix it. It's really too bad because I just became an Apple user this year and was impressed by how smoothly every thing works. Now the jerkiness in Safari and iPhoto feels more like the old MS Windows experience.
Thanks to all for the help!

  • Smooth scrolling horizontally rather than vertically

Hi is it possible to have smooth scrolling set from left to right rather than up and down, I've done some research into smooth scrolling and all i could find was articles showing smooth scrolling vertically. If this is not possible is there another way to set a horizontal scrolling long page?
    Cheers
    Clinton

Hi Thanks for your response, did you mean using the scrollable frames overlay? or in the builder set the Article behaviour to smooth scroll horizontally? I basically wanted to have a  really long horizontal scroller made up of a series of images. I've tried the scrollable frames overlay however once you filck to the scrollable page it locks you on the page and the only way to get out of it is to select a different chapter in the bookmarks. I've also tried setting the behaviour to smooth scroll horizontally however it still snaps to the individual pages, id prefer if you could scroll between pages? (im previewing on the content viewer for ipad, not sure if this has anything to do with it?)

  • How to make the Smooth Scrolling work even H Swipe is tick?

In my article, if I tick the H Swipe only and the Smooth Scrolling is Both direction, Why is it in previewing it in my iPad the Scrolling seems Off because it's snapping into the pages.
Smooth scrolling is not working if H Swipe only is tick.
How to make the Smooth Scrolling work even H Swipe is tick?

Horizontal scrolling is only for 1024x768 or 768x1024 pages. That’s it.
You cannot combine horizontal only with smooth scrolling.

  • Scripting the lenght of a page (for smooth scrolling in DPS)

    Hi, folks
I am quite a layman in this scripting world but I have a question that I would really need answered. It's not so much a question of 'how' but one of 'is this possible with scripting'?
We want to set up a system where the pages would be automatically created with XML input from a short set of templates so that they end as indesign documents in a given folder.
We have a very clear idea now on how to do that. But now, I have to take a design decission: Should I try using "one-page articles" with pages of variable lengt depending on the size of the body text frame? (so that they make afterwards smooth scrolling in Adobe DPS)?
What refrains me from doing that is that body text will be variable in size and lenght. So... I cannot predetermine which length must have the main frame in the pages and, consequently, I cannot predetermine the lenght of the pages (expressed as top margin + body frame length + bottom margin).
The question for scripting: Is it possible that you may run a script that does this?
    - Text is input into the main body text frame via XML import.
    - Frame is resized so that it fits with content (no more, no less).
    - Page is then resized so that (expressed as top margin + body frame length + bottom margin) it keeps designed proportions.
I hope what I want is clear enough, because that is the doubt that is stopping me from trying the one long page winding way. Any idea, please?
    Thanks a lot
    Gustavo (Posting from Madrid)

    Hi Gustavo,
yes you can accomplish what you are describing with InDesign scripting.
Instead of creating a smooth scrolling page you could even create a frame with scrollable
content on the template an fill the scrollable content with text.
That way you will not have empty spots on the page.
That sounds like an exiting project which combines InDesign, DPS and scripting skills.

  • Horizontal Scrolling without Smooth Scrolling?

    Hello,
I'm building an iPad presentation in InDesign using the DPS features. I'd like to make my presentation scroll through the pages horizontally, is this possible without activating smooth scrolling?

Right I see, thankyou. This is one of my first iPad presentations made using the DPS features. I've still got to get my head around some of the tips and tricks.

  • Horizontal smooth scrolling

Is it possible to have longer pages (768x1500) and set it to horizontal smooth scroll. I wonder if you could upload several long articles and combine them into one article and set it to horizontal smooth scroll?

I think the Smooth Scrolling feature is designed for webpage-style vertical scrolling only. The 'Horizontal' and 'Vertical' direction settings refer to the layout orientations (your landscape and portrait layouts), not the direction of the scroll action itself.
If I understand this incorrectly, please someone jump in to correct me.
You could get around this by having horizontal Scrollable Content that fills the height of your layout but extends left-and-right. The problem is that, having reached the right-hand end of the Scrollable Content, swiping across the iPad screen will not move you on to the next page or next article. Perhaps you could get around this by adding a secret button (a 'navto' link to the next page) that overlays a button graphic that only comes into view at the end of the Scrollable Content. Not sure if this would work, though.

  • How can i turn off the 'smooth scrolling' in firefox?

since I installed Firefox 13.0, scrolling down pages went a bit smoother. My PC is a bit old, so when i have youtube played in one tab and I'm smoothly scrolling in another, every time i scroll down the music stops for the time i scroll down. Like some sort of lag, but my internet connection is fine.
so my question was; How can i turn this feature off, so i can listen to music without the stops when scrolling?

    Thanks alot!

  • Smooth-scrolling page shrinks to fit on screen

    Hi,
I'mtrying to produce a horizontally smooth-scrolling page and am facing a very odd issue. The page's dimensions are 2200*768, but the content viewer just shrinks it to fit in the screen, instead of having it fill its height and scroll sideways. (See the attached screenshot)
I am aware of the size limitation of PDF stacks on previous versions, but this happens with both PDF and PNG stacks, as well as on a v23 folio.
Also, once this problem is solved, is there a way to have the page present the horizontal center or right rather then left when it loads? I'm working on a Hebrew publication, meaning it is RTL, so having the page start from the left and scroll rightwards would not make sense
    Thanks

You can’t do that. Smooth scrolling only works vertically.

  • Smooth Scrolling has stopped in Google search but only Google search, how can I fix, thanks

There are scrolling 2 modes in Google search as far as I know one which I have always used which is smooth scrolling and the other where it jumps to the next site individually. Somehow after an update or something Google search on Firefox has stopped smooth scrolling. I also use safari and google search still smooth scrolls there.
Anyway in advanced smooth scrolling is checked.
If you are able to help please let me know.
    Thanks

  • How can I get back the two button smooth scroll with Logitec optical marble mouse since Adobe Acrobat or FireFox updates on 10/26/2010 made it quit?

Oct 25, 26 or 27 both Adobe Acrobat and Mozilla Firefox alerted me they had updates to install. Since I trust them both I installed them. However, since then my optical marble mouse from Logitech acted strangely different. The cursor did not move as usual. It didn't respond right. I thought it might have needed the dust wiped out, so I did that. It still acted sluggish when I tried to move it, it was as though it was "spinning its wheels" not going anywhere. I went to the Control Panel clicked on Mouse, and proceeded to look at the settings and set them to default. I then tried to use the universal scroll by clicking the two big buttons which showed a circle with cross hair arrows as usual. When the marble was moved forward or backward, the scroll had always been smooth allowing one to read the screen evenly and without holding any button down. Now it was jerky. Is this a problem from the last update? My version of Firefox is 3.6.12
    Thank you

I am happy to see another person is having this jerky scroll situation with the latest update to Firefox on October 27. I did check my I.E browser and '''THAT BROWSER''' still does the nice smooth scroll....let's get 'er fixed Mozilla! I know you can!

  • How can I make the Smooth Scrolling option in the Advanced menu apply ONLY to the tab bar?

So, I'm one of those people who usually have 60+ tabs open at any given time. I'm also on a Lenovo laptop with a trackpoint (that may be relevant later).
Right now, I have smooth scrolling disabled.
In previous versions of Firefox, if I sat my cursor on the tab bar and scrolled either up or down, it would scroll across my tab bar at a constant, quick rate, usually taking about two or three seconds to reach the end. This wasn't an animated scroll (I've disabled that animated scroll via about:config in the current Firefox version).
However, now, it's doing something different. There's acceleration to the scroll. If I just tap the scroll in either direction, it scrolls only a few tabs. However, if I hold the scroll for a second, it instantaneously takes me to the far end of the tab bar, completely skipping at least thirty tabs in between.
I have tab scroll buttons added by Tab Mix Plus (smooth scrolling is also not enabled in that addon), and the same accelerating behavior occurs there. One or two taps of the button moves the bar a few tabs to the left or right, but several taps in quick succession takes me all the way to the far end of the bar.
I can restore the old scrolling behavior for the tab bar by turning on smooth scrolling in the Options > Advanced menu, but that turns on smooth scrolling for web pages at the same time. I don't like the web page smooth scrolling, and would rather not have it on.
Or if there's any other way to make it so that scrolling the tab bar moves the tab bar a fixed amount no matter what, that would be great.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • How to make smooth scroll in muse

I want the smooth scroll effect in my site just like this http://nexgeninnovators.com

You can try to use anchors on page and link them to fixed positions on page, that would create similar effect.
But if you are looking for setting up jump scrolling on page then at current stage we cannot setup this with scroll effects.
    Thanks,

  • I have created a table on pages.  Somehow I have set something so a blue dot appears every time I press he space bar.  How did I do it? and how do I get rid of it?

two questions-- I have created a table on pages.  Somehow every time I press the space bar, I get a blue dot between words--How did I do it? and How do I get rid of it.  Also, I created a template on pages--How do I "save as" for a new file using that template?

All you are seeing is the word space (from the spacebar).
Menu > View > Hide Invisibles you had Show Invisibles on.
When you are using a template it should be named "Untitled" and it will ask you to save when you go to close or you simply go to Save under the File menu.
