SMS_EXECUTIVE service missing, will not reinstall -

Update: The answer points to a forum post that indicates that the system environment variables tmp and temp need to point to C:\Windows\Temp. In our environment these variables pointed to a folder called 'temp' in the root of whatever drive was being
used at the time. Ultimately the issue I had was resolved by creating the 'temp' folder on the installation drive. So in my experience, they don't necessarily need to be pointing to the standard temp folder.
Recently I noticed a handful of our DPs/SMPs were all having an issue. Component Monitor said that the SMS_EXECUTIVE service wasn't running. I checked, and none of the affected servers had that service installed. I removed all the site systems from SCCM
entirely, then started to try to reinstall the systems  one at a time.
I noticed that the Distribution Point role would install just fine, but the SMP role would fail. It's not clear to me what the failure is, as sitecomp.log basically just says that the installation failed and will be restarted. I know that the SMS_SERVER_BOOTSTRAP
service is being installed and I can see it running when it's performing operations.
I'm at a loss as to what is causing the issue. I'm an SCCM noob, so any guidance at all would be appreciated.

I did a find/replace on our server FQDN and apparently misspelled 'local'. The actual FQDN being used is correct, though.
That link is interesting, as the system %tmp% and %temp% variables on our servers point to '\TEMP'. While I'm not entirely discounting that theory, it doesn't explain why some servers are unaffected, while others are. These are all 2008 R2 servers, and are
all configured the same. Due to network restrictions we currently have a DP/SMP at nearly every single physical location that we have across the state, as of right now there are 70 of them in total, and end state will be 76. Only 11 of those 70 are exhibiting
this issue.
I did notice that on the drive that we're installing the role compnonents to that there is no 'temp' folder, I've added that folder and will attempt a reinstall on one of the servers to see how it goes.

  • Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium will not Reinstall: Says Serial Number is not "Valid"

Chat support has been no help.  I uninstalled Creative Suite 6 because I was having issues with some of the software and hoped that a reinstall would solve the problem.  Now the software will not reinstall.  It takes me to the validation screen where it asks for the serial number and says "We are unable to validate this serial number for CS6 Design and Web Premium.  Please contact customer service," when i type the serial number in.  I have now gone through THREE chat sessions with "customer support" in which they have sent me a link to download the same program, and it would not reload because of the serial number, and then have walked me TWICE through a multitude of tasks that have not solved the problem.  They keep asking me the same questions again and again, ignore my own questions to them, and cannot give me any information that actually helps.  The phone system will not support Creative Suite.  I NEED this software to reload as I've already missed one publishing deadline and will miss another if I cannot use this software, which, at the moment, seems to be a $350 coaster.
This is the same disc I used to install the software originally.  I installed it on my old laptop and used it there without incident until my new laptop came (a period of about two months).  I then Uninstalled the software from the old lap top and installed it on the new one, again, without incident.  When I found that the icons for switching between tools in Photoshop and Illustrator were so small I could not see them, and they seemingly could not be adjusted within the program, I uninstalled the software, and at this point is when the software would not reinstall on the same computer it was on in the first place.  My software is official, on a physical disc, and registered to my account with Adobe.  What do I do?  I just opened this press five months ago, and I cannot justify a Creative Cloud membership with the amount of work I'm actually putting out at the moment, and especially not with the terrible customer service I have been receiving so far.
    Please help.

If you never deactivated, and neither did they, then that is likely to be a reason for not being able to activate again.  Contact them thru chat and ask them to reset your activations.

We now have three other units in teh office with the same issue.

Don't know about fixing PitStop. However, have you tried a simple repair on Acrobat. If Acrobat won't open you can do that from the Programs and Features menu (Add/Remove Programs in OS prior to Win7).

  • Acrobat 7.0 pro will not reinstall

I have CS2 Premium on XP. Had problems with printer not supporting pdfs. After techs fixed my computer Acrobat 7.0 pro will not work right. after 3 weeks with customer support and waiting days for them to get back to me they say they can't help - don't support CS2 (wished they would told me that initially). (I use this for volunteer newsletters and do not need CS4) I uninstalled CS2 and Reinstalled it. Probablem is when the components come up to install the Acrobat 7.0 pro is greyed out and will not reinstall or unistall it. Tried to go to the Acrobat componet on my disks and just install acrobat 7.0 pro is doesn't work - error says "Wrong OS or OS version for application".
Obviously it is still recognizing the initial installation. I mention this to the Adobe tech and ask how I could remove it completely so that I could reinstall and they would not give any suggestion, just kept saying we don't support it and refered me to the forums.
I really don't want to wipe my computer clean and reinstall all my software.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

  • I have an AirPrint printer and am signed up for the wifi 3G service but will not have wifi.  Can an IPad be hooked to a printer with a cable, or can I print somehow without wifi?

I have a new air print-capable printer and am signed up to Verizon wifi+3G service but will not have wifi while traveling.  Is there anyway to print from my iPad in this situation?  Cannot the IPad be hooked up to a printer with a cable?  If not, this seems to me to be a real shortcoming with an iPad!

iPads cannot be connected to a printer using a cable.
You need some form of Wi-Fi network to print. You do not need to have that Wi-Fi network connected to the internet. There are some devices that will create a Wi-Fi network and allow you to print. Google it to find someplace ossicle solutions.

  • Mac OS X Lion will not reinstall on MacAir

Have MacBook Air 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo/2Gb/128Gb with SSD which I was preparing to pass on to friend saved then erased my data but
Mac OS X Lion (purchased June 2012) will not reinstall using option 2 in Disk Utilities.  Can anyone tell me (in simple terms!) what my options are please.

See this knowledge base article:What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support
Note that if the MBA came with Snow Leopard, not Lion, you are supposed to erase the SSD using the original Mac OS X install disk that came with the MBA.  You cannot give away the computer with Lion installed if that was not the original operating system since it is permanently tied to your Apple ID.  The new owner will not be able to update anything tied to your Apple ID.
If it came with Snow Leopard, insert the DVD, restart and hold the C key, then use Disk Utility from the DVD to erase the SSD and then Install Mac OS X.

  • Lightroom 5 from cloud install - lost light room and it will not reinstall

I have had lightroom since version 3, made all the upgrades, last week I installed version 5 through the cloud and it would not start yet the cloud says it is up to date. I have spent all morning looking for an answer. I uninstalled lightroom 5 but the cloud still says it is installed. I deleted the odp file and restarted my computer several times and it still says it is installed and will not reinstall!
Trying to find an answer or a person to talk to has been a very poor experience for the likes of Adobe.

David Irvine please be aware you are posting in a public forum.  I have edited your previous post to remove your e-mail address.
What four files are you referring too?  The only file referenced being removed is the OPM.db file.
What process did you utilize to remove Photoshop Lightroom 5?  What operating system are you wishing to install Photoshop Lightroom on?

  • Why won't Adobe open a Pdf? Why do I pay for a service that will not open a pdf?

Why won't Adobe open a Pdf? Why do I pay for a service that will not open a pdf?

Maybe you could supply us with more details about what exactly you are doing, how you are doing and what you are using to do it.
The reason I say this is because you are in the forum for Adobe Reader which is a FREE application and not a service.

  • My TrafficLight extension disappeared from Safari and will not reinstall. How can I fix this?

My TrafficLight extension disappeared from Safari and will not reinstall, either through Safari or as a standalone download. How can I fix this?

Are you sure you downloaded this extension from Apple ?
    https://extensions.apple.com/
    Where is it?
    Check ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
I did a Google search for source links for the extension but can't find the one for Apple here.
Maybe you downloaded a trial version and it expired?  http://trafficlight.bitdefender.com/extensions.html
Just my 2 cents, but this extension is likely to cause you more problems with Safari then it's worth. If you are concerned about security on the net read >  Thomas' Corner : Mac Virus Guide

Itunes will not reinstall on my computer

It is telling me that the MSVCR80.dll driver is not on my computer

  • CS3 WILL NOT REINSTALL, COMPONENTS FAILED

Hi Bob or anyone else who can help,
I have been reading these forums for hours and nothing seems to be working for me.  I had originally tried to install a plug in for my photoshop.  I have Creative Suite Design Premium CS3 and I downloaded this plugin.  Ever since then once I opened the photoshop or any other CS3 Program it would say something about my license could not do... etc. etc.  So it basically told me to uninstall and reinstall.  So I did that, and now it will install adobe acrobat professional 8 but will not install the rest of my suite it says component failed to install with X's next to all the products I need!  I have tried reinstalling it in many different ways, restarting, doing it one at a time.  I even tried the WinCleanupCS5 thing and nothing seems to be doing the trick.  You pay 400 for a student version 1.5 years ago and now they want you to pay another 400! I hope somebody has the answer. I have uninstalled the plugin and everything.  I do not know what to do!!!  I have Windows Vista Home, I hope somebody has the answer to my specific problem.  If it is my disc in general because it is scratched can anyone help with what to do from there??  I appreciate any help!!

It could well be that you are trying to install CS3 on top of CS4 common files -- chronological installations are a safer route.
It could also be that you are simply having trouble with the installer. the CS3 installers were as bad as Adobe ever released. Personally, I would uninstall CS4 and then run the CS5 cleanup tool again. I would also run the Flash Player uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html. Run MSConfig to reboot with only the barrest of essential services and startups enabled -- no anitivirus, firewalls, iTunes, messengers, browser toolbars, etc., all of which have been implicated in problems with CS3 installations.
Reboot, reinstall CS3, then CS4, then reset MSConfig for normal boot.

  • Firefox wasn't opening websites when other programs were, so I uninstalled it but now it will not reinstall from the website.

    HI there,
Firefox wasn't able to connect to the internet, yet other browser programs were fine (IE, etc.) so I thought I"d uninstall Firefox and reinstall it from the website. I uninstalled it fine, but it will not download. It goes through all the steps of the download and setup from the website and appears to be installing in "program files," yet does not appear in the list of programs. It's just not there! What could the problem be? I'm running Windows 7 and McAfee.
    Thanks for any advice.

Go into our program files folder and delete the Mozilla Firefox program folder. Then open msconfig and make sure that Firefox is unchecked from the Programs startup list, then open regedit and find the HKEY_LOCALUSER_SOFTWARE key and delete strings associated with Firefox. This process will require several re-boots, but once you're done you should be able to download and install Firefox without any troubles.
