This is not fair.

I upgraded my personal original iPad to 5.0 trusting this functionality would continue to work(1). This is really disappointing since there is no reason why it would not work in the original iPad, it worked perfectly fine in 4.3.X when being a developer.
I worship apple products but it is really unpleasant when there are features that are being removed especially when it is my favourite feature.
Since my Home button is damaged, my iPad becames pretty much unusable now.
Please, reconsider this decision, it is a very bad marketing decision!

Thanks for this guidance. However, what concerns me is that I did not have these problems until I upgraded to IOS 8. First to version upgrade 8.1 and to see if my problems would be resolved, the other day I upgraded to IOS 8.3. I still have problems with being dropped off of the wifi network in my house. More discouraging is the fact that the strength of the signal to my Ipad 2 is LESS than in the past (only one bar). Then I often get kicked off the system and have to go into it again. My newer Iphone 5C continues to have a strong wifi signal even if I am sitting in the same chair. Very odd...
I know a lot of people are having issues with the IOS 8 and various upgrades. My ipad 2 is older, and I am considering purchasing a newer version like Ipad Air 2. Do you think a newer device like that would give me good internet connection and strong signal as I had before?

Looks like the right version shows up in iBooks, but the one on Apple's website "iPad User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)" isn't really the one for iOS 5. Anyone find the real one online?

You probably have disallowed changes to accounts. Go to Settings > General > Restrictions, under Allow Changes, go to Accounts and select Allow Changes.

Headphones for iPad Air under $60?

I'm also slightly annoyed about this. The biggest reason is likely to be relative performance of the iPad, and the installed base. There will be many more 3GS phones out there still in use than iPad first gen.
There were three major features announced for iOS 6 that are performance related.
Maps and navigation
Siri
Safari's javascript engine and the tab viewer.
All of these will place higher loads on the machine, and may in some respect be reliant on certain cellular or wifi chip capabilities, as well as raw CPU and graphics peformance.
I'm still surprised that the 3GS might be considered more capable than the iPad first gen, but I think that then comes down to the size of the installed base. Many iPad 1 users have already swapped out
My preference would be to see support for the iPad 1, but with certain features disabled if they can't get the performance they need. 3D maps are going to be nice, but not exactly critical. However, its not clear whether they will bring the new iOS 6 map tiles (from Apple) to iOS 5 - its potentially doable without any software change, as its server side. Although they use Google maps, I'm not sure that they rely on Google servers to provide the images.
Also, we are still some way off the release date, and its possible that they will do more optimising of iOS 6 that will allow the iPad first gen to get an update including most of the features. They may just be holidng back at the moment based on what they know is good.
I was considering a MB Air purchase soon, but I'm now in the position of thinking that I will defer that if I have a more compelling reason to purchase an iPad update. That won't happen until Jan 2013 at the earliest, when we can expect an iPad 4th gen upgrade anyway.

iOS 5.1.1 is the last version that will run on an iPad, so no, there have been no further releases. Most people are having no problems, though, so it's likely that no fix from Apple is required. Perhaps if you'll post details about your problems, someone can offer suggestions for addressing them.

Why can't apple get Siri to iPad 2 ,seriously come on it has a A5chip and it is quiet powerful if an iPhone 4s can have it ,which still has a A5 chip?and in ios 6 they give the new iPad Siri and not iPad 2. How does that even fly for a logical reason or explanation for this stupidity? You are absolutely right that a car built to have 260 horsepower will have no more than 260 horsepower. If the newer model is given 300 horse then by golly it will have 300 horsepower. You can choose to upgrade your engine in some way to get 300 horsepower at your expense. The same cannot be said about apple and their iproducts which can never be upgraded. Which is why I am completely confused about your comparison. The auto industry is a far stretch from a technology related company. Software upgrades are what people count on when they purchase a technology based product to keep their device going. A basic concept in computing. In other words, Apple's to oranges mon ami! When you purchase a product from a company that claims they are revolutionary, you read and you know that the products are capable in comparison to other products made by the same company and yet they consciously make garbage decisions like not allowing Siri on a device that is more than capable (iPad 2), then something is wrong with the relationship. A paying customer deserves and is surely entitled to a proper explanation from the manufacturer. That's what a consumer driven company is required to do. After all they are nothing without their isheep. They are responsible to their consumers just as they are to their shareholders and board members. It's simply a matter of principle.

Are you using a self-signed certificate? if so, you're going to get that unless you do a lot of extra work. Getting a real certificate from a trusted authority should resolve this.
As for the slow connections, the use of SSL shouldn't significantly impact connection or delivery/transfer times, so something else is amiss.

help! I'm leaving for Prague next week and I desperately need a camera connection kit for my Sony camera to my iPad Air! I have one that I used on my old iPad, but obviously it doesn't work on the iPad Air! All/any help will be much appreciated!

Go to the Apple store and buy the camera connection kit. It provides a USB female connection, you supply the cable from the USB to your camera. Or order the kit from the Apple online store.

Hi Pat, there was no answer in your post, just a message saying it was moved to iOS subforum. I don't know how to get there. I was however able to install another PDF Reader that just has PDF with a circle on the icon. It seems to work ok.

I'Ve had the same problem since I updated to IOS 8. I then updated again to 8.1 still have the same problem. Now my app store icon is telling me that 17 apps need updating but when I try all the apps go into waiting mode. I tried to update 1 app at a time, doesn't work. I have tried everything, reset, restore, delete apps, reinstall, nothing works. I saw some suggestions regarding the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) app but i don't have that app. Can someone please help?

In Pages for Mac, I could drag Address Book entries directly into Pages to automatically populate Name and Address placeholders.
