  • SMS from Address Book with Motorola e815?

I have a Motoroloa e815 phone with Verizon. No trouble syncing via iSync. But when I try to pair my phone in Address Book to send SMS messages, it doesn't work. When I click on the pair button, I get a message asking me to enter a passkey for the phone. I do so and click OK. The window says "paired successfully", but when it takes me back to Address Book, the "paired" button is still grey. If I click it again it just takes me through the same process.
Is something wrong, or is this just a problem with e815 compatibility?

I just spent a better part of the afternoon talking to both AppleCare tech support and verizon wireless. And, as one might guess, the folks at Apple, while being sympathetic pointed to the real culprit: Verizon. Unfortunately, I was not able to ascertain from Apple if Address Book used OBEX or the Object Push Profile to display call information, SMS et al. What they did say, after much searching, was "Your carrier is blocking those features on the handset"
Then it was time to call Verizon. they were less then helpful -- big shock there.
I received conflicting information from the upwards of 5 people i talked to. One said Verizon will never allow bluetooth data transfers, and another said the have new handsets coming out (when, they never said) that would allow for data/file transfers. But as of now, they do not support data transfers and told me it wasn't possible. I reminded the agent that data was already being transfered every time i sync my phone over iSync and he was confused... saying it should only be possible via a USB cable.
I can't wait till my contract with verizon is over. Gonna give the whole GSM thing a try....

  • E71: Sending SMS from Address Book (Mac OS 10.4.11...

Is anyone using an E71 with a Mac?
It is supposedly possible to send an SMS from within Mac's Address Book, but I can't successfully do this despite the two gadgets having been paired and the Bluetooth icon appearing in the Address Book top bar.
    Do I need a plug-in or something?
    Thanks.

I don't think it's possible. I have the iSync plugin from Nokia (http://www.nokia.com.au/A4630409) and that's just for syncing your contacts between your E71 and Address Book as well as your calendar events. As for the feature you're looking for regrettably that's not available.

  • SMS from Address Book

I have paired my Nokia E60 without any problems, and it sync perfect, but when I tried to send a SMS from within the Address Book to a mobile phone and no way, it ask for pairing again ...
    Any idea?
    Ragdrs,
    JM

Apple haven't updated Address Book for SMS and Call functions for years.
You'll need to enable that functionality within Address Book, using a third party tool.
For Nokia phones you can use and for Sony Ericsson phones a cheaper option is the Sony Ericsson Address Book Enabler.

  • S700i and send sms from Address Book.

    Hi,
I done a search for an answer but didn't find anything.
Is it possible when in Address Book in osx 10.4.3 to select a mobile phone number and 'send sms'?
This used to work but now doesn't.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Thanks.
    Lel

It works for me. I have an Nokia 8800 paired via bluetooth.
Right click/control click on the phone number, and the option to send an SMS is there.
It only works with the phone paired though. Make sure the Bluetooth button in Address Book is coloured blue.

  • SMS from Address Book stopped working

I often use AB to sent SMS messages via bluetooth and my mobile phone. I went to do it this morning, and the SMS Message (and Dial) is greyed and not selectable. AB's Bluetooth icon is showing and blue, and claims to be connected to my phone. "Use with Address Book" is still selected in the Bluetooth mobile phone setup.
What might have changed? What have I broken?

The problem has gone away, with no definite resolution. See discussion in the bluetooth forum.

  • Transferring info from old address book to new Mac

    my subtopic ought to be 'writing a subject heading that relates to the question I want to ask'. That question was;
    Can anyone help me?
My last iMac died and I've got a new one. I've also got the hard drive from the old iMac, but when I try to open things from it, such as the address book, the new version opens and I can't find a way to get at the info that is in my old address book. I want to e-mail friends to tell them that I'm back on-line, but I can't get at their addresses. Advice received with thanks.

The Address Book data is stored at the following location - Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook.
With the Address Book application quit on your new iMac, transfer the AddressBook folder from the old hard drive and place it in the same location on your new hard drive at Home > Library > Application Support.
This will replace the existing AddressBook folder in this location.
Launch Address Book and all contacts from the old drive should be completely restored.

  • HT204150 I have just set up icloud and all my contacts are duplicated from Address Book! My new iPhone is also showing duplicate contacts even though they are not duplicated in my address book on my computer. Please can you help

I have just set up icloud and all my contacts are duplicated from Address Book! My new iPhone is also showing duplicate contacts even though they are not duplicated in my address book on my computer. Please can you help?

Also, what are the source of your contacts? are they created on the phone, or you synced from yahoo/hotmail etc.
If thats the case, the circular arrow wont be visible but instead show "groups"
Contacts from different accounts are not synced to iCloud.

  • Cannot print from Address Book! Print freezes and will not proceed.

I want to print an address list for Christmas cards. When I select the Group, select all and select Print I get the option box. I then select my printer and use the down arrow to open the dialog box that shows I am printing from Address Book and gives the different forms I can use (ie list, label, envelope) as well as the fields to include in the list. Once I have everything selected I click the Print radio button. All of the information under the Address Book options line disappears. Print remains highlighted and my printer Que never opens or appears. If I manually open the printer there is no print job showing. At this point the Address Book application is frozen. I cannot select cancel on the print dialog box (I can click it, but it does not highlight and it does not close the dialog box! In order to get out of this situation I have had to close Address Book. The quit option on the menu does work and Force Quit is unnecessary.
I actually spoke with AppleCare on this issue on Friday 05 Dec 2008. The tech I spoke with knew of no other such situations, but when I started checking on this discussion page I see a posting from REECO from clear back on 24 Sept 2008. His posting can be found at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8161605&tstart=0
The technician had me do several things. One was to pull my Caches folder out of my system Library folder. He also had me remove some Address Book preference items. The end result of these actions was a Mac Pro that would not boot! (The failure followed an Address Book crash with a "KERPROTECTIONFAILURE" and the message that some QualityMedia plugin might have created the problem!)(I could find no such plug in either on my system or via Google search!) The tech had asked me to boot to safe mode by booting while holding down the shift key untill the spinning gear appeared. The machine never progressed to a successful boot! I ended up having to use a 2nd hard drive and physically place it in internal slot 1 on my Mac Pro proceeding to reinstall Tiger! The bad news is that this did NOT solve my printing problem.
If I am attempting to print from a new install with just the Apple address card and the Owner's card in Address book the print proceeds fine. Once I import my data I am back to the same print failure.
Some diagnostic steps I have tried. I have tried USB local printers and bonjour printers. I have used Epson and Canon printers. I have tried to print to a PDF. I have tried printing from another computer (12 inch PowerBook) with identical results!
At this point I am going to call AppleCare Monday morning and see if anyone there has any more suggestions. Any suggestions this forum has will be received gratefully!

I was having the same crash or "just not print" problem as seen in other posts. I was able to fix it however, by making changes in some of the address cards I was going to print. By editing the "parent", "child", "spouse" fields which will get added to the name line of the label, I was able to get labels to print (or pdf preview) without difficulty.
I did not try and determine exactly what the problem was, but basically did a data cleanup. Since I didn't know that those fields would print, I had previously included information beyond just a name in the fields, like birthdates and such, eg. "Jimmy - 12/1/05". After either removing the fields entirely where I didn't really need them, or just cleaning them down to names only, they printed just fine. I'd considered trying to disable the feature entirely but the data cleanup was not hard for a dozen or so names.

  • Problems with sending SMS from adress book

    Hi all,
I have a new Kotorola MOTOKRZR K1 here.
The Bluetooth connection with iMac is ok. I can send data to phone and I can receive data from phone, but I can't send SMS from adress book v4.0.5 (487) to the phone.
The bluetooth button in adress book is disabled. I can click on this button, but address book open in this case always a dialog: "Pair with bluetooth device".
When I click on the "pair" button, then I can enter my access code vor the phone.
It is the access code from Bluetooth Assistant program for the phone.
my question is, Is here a user, who can send a SMS with MOTOKRZR K1 from adress book?
With my old Siemens S55 is this no problem.
Sorry for my very bad english.
    Greetings, Bermd

    did this ever get resolved?

  • Add Attendees (name AND phone no.) from Address Book to iCal for iPhone use

Hello scripting gurus and newbs alike.
I've looked through the forums, but can't find a COMPLETE solution to what I believe should be a fairly straightforward problem. I'll start by asking the question as concisely as I can, then bring in more information about what I have tried, and learned, so far. I'll also outline my broad (mini) project aims at the end, in case anyone is interested.
    * Q: How can I add attendees, from my Address Book, to an iCal event, so that **ALL** the attendee details are included?
Note: It is VITAL to me that attendees' phone number(s) are available through iCal, not just {display name, email, participation status}. This is because I want MobileMe to synch the event with my iPhone, so I can call attendees directly from iCal. (or at least have iCal open the attendee's Contacts record so I can call from there!)
WHY DO I THINK IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE?
Manually, I can simply dbl-click on the event, click into the attendees field, start typing the attendee name, and hit enter. When I do this, it works. MobileMe synchs it to the iPhone, I open iCal, select the event, tap the attendee, and I'm calling.
    WHAT I'VE TRIED USING APPLESCRIPT
When I try the following script, I've only managed to set Sheila's name/email/participation status. I can retrieve her phone number from Address Book using the above approach, but unsure how to make it stick in iCal * such that I am able to use it to call directly from iCal on the iPhone *
    ++++++++++++++++++++++
    tell application "Address Book"
set anAttendee to name of (first person whose name contains "Sheila")
    end tell
    tell application "iCal"
set newEvent to make new event at end with properties ¬
    {summary:"Meeting Info.", location:"ZIP", description:"More yak", start date:SD, end date:SD + 120 * minutes}
    make new attendee at end of attendees of newEvent with properties {display name:anAttendee}
    end tell
    ++++++++++++++++++++++
WHERE I'VE LOOKED FOR SIMILAR EXAMPLES
Thanks to Rob (et al) for providing script examples used to create the above, see here: http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=5692
I've also looked at the following article, which makes me think I somehow need to use the PERSON ID in the event attendee list. Unfortunately, I have only managed to retrieve the ID, but had no joy trying to set it.
    http://www.mactech.com/articles/mactech … index.html
    THE PROJECT
I'm a surveyor, and using dialog(s) to enter relevant info., I'm looking to streamline my preparation for surveys when I make each new appointment.
My mini-project presently enables me to print survey forms (based on a Pages template) with details relating to the specific property (address/contact name&no./appointment date&time etc.) It also uses the appointment date&time to create the appropriate event in iCal.
I'm also confident I can add the contact details, such as agent/owner name(s) and phone number(s) in Address Book.
IF I COULD ONLY ADD THESE AS ATTENDEE(S), AS IF ADDED MANUALLY, I WOULD ALSO BE ABLE TO PHONE THE PROPERTY OWNERS WITH A COURTEOUS REMINDER WHEN I'M ON THE WAY!!
Can anyone help me achieve this?
    Here's hoping.
    Phil (wiimixer)

    Phil
Referencing the attendee in iCal will only directly record the properties you mention - because that's how it's designed to work and there's no way around the restriction unless iCal is changed.
You could set the phone number elsewhere in the iCal event - e.g. notes, location, ... - and that would probably allow you to call from iCal (I don't have an iPhone so I can't be sure), but I am not sure I see the advantage over using the link to iPhone's Address Book which is set up by adding an attendee to the event. This might be because I am being dense, so if this is the case please elaborate.
    EDIT:
I have read your original post in more detail since I wrote the above. It seems to me that you are saying that when you add the person to the iCal event via AppleScript that you do not get the link to the iPhone's Address Book when you sync via MobileMe. You imply, however, that it does work when you type the name manually. Are these both correct statements?

  • How do I share a contact from Address Book via email?

I am trying to send email address details in a Mailing list from my Address Book to a colleague. I have tried going to Attachment option but doesn't include option to attach from Address Book. Also tried copying so that I can paste into the body of the email without success. How can I share these contact details please?
    Thanks

What does your correspondent need or want?
One well established standard for exchanging contact information is the vCard which encapsulates many of the commonly used fields in a Contact entry.
If a vCard suits you and your correspondent, this add-on:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html
has a nifty feature for sending vCards as attachments. Then your correspondent can probably just add it to his address book. If you copy out single details, like name, address, email address phone no, then the other person has to insert each one into his address book by hand.
If you open the Mailing List in your Address Book, you can probably drag each item out into the body of a new email message. But that's more work than necessary for you and for the recipient, who will need to add each one manually to his address book.
With this add-on, you should be able to open the Mailing List by selecting it in the Address Book, then use ctrl+a to select all, then right-click and select "Send as vCard"; it will open a new message with all the selected Contacts attached.
Lists in general don't have a standard presentation, so a List in one email client is only rarely useful in another. If you both use Thunderbird, you could use this add-on to export the List to a .tha or .thm file which another Thunderbird user could import.

  • No longer able to send text message from Address Book

For a long time, I've sent text messages from Address Book, via Bluetooth and my SE phone. However, all of a sudden, the messages are no longer being received by the receipents, despite them appearing to be sent.
    Any ideas what's wrong?

  • Drag card from Address Book adds a row?

I have a small table in an estimating spreadsheet into which I can drag a card from AddressBook.app. That populates the table with name, address, etc., providing info that is picked up elsewhere in the file. In my old template, this worked fine. But I must have changed something (or perhaps it's just the new Numbers '09 update) because now when I drag a card, Numbers inserts a new row to hold the card's info, pushing everything on the page down to make room.
Does anyone know why it's doing this, and how I can turn that "feature" off? Thanks!

More on this subject: As a test, I dragged a single V-card from Address Book into a blank area of a spreadsheet. As it's supposed to, Numbers created a table with all the card's information.
I then deleted the data but left the header row exactly as Numbers created it. Then I dragged the same V-card back onto the now-blank cells. This time, it added TWO new rows. One above the data and one below.
Weird behavior, eh? Anyone else seeing this kind of thing happening?

  • Can I print Dymo labels directly from Address Book?

That would be cool. But I end up launching Dymo's crap app and cutting and pasting every address into a label I want to print.

I agree with the previous posts that Dymo's Label Software is satisfactory when you choose to use Apple's Address Book app. However, I frequently want to print a single label from Address Book, and I don't like to waste time launching Dymo's app and scrolling (no search function!) through my addresses.
Here's the solution I have used to print a single address label from Address Book (v. 3.1.2) to my LabelWriter Twin Turbo:
    (1) With the address selected in Address Book, got to File > Print ...
    (2) Choose "Dymo Labelwriter" from the Printer drop-down menu
    (3) Under the "Layout" tab (not "List"), be sure "Dymo" & "Shipping Labels" is selected from the Page drop-down. (It seems counter-intuitive to select shipping labels when you're printing address labels, but it's the only workaround I've found, and you'll modify the margins in step #4.)
    (4) Now select "Define Custom ..." from the Page drop-down menu and give it a new name (e.g. "Dymo Address") (+At this point, the label preview on the left should look like a big shipping label still+.)
    (5) Modify the margins of your custom page layout (in inches) to Top=1.200 Bottom=0.000 Left=0.500 Right=0.250
    (6) Print a sample copy and adjust margins to suit your needs
If you wonder why this circuitous route works, +so do I+. If you don't want to read my proposed explanation, simply follow the steps above and stop reading. If you'd like to know what I think is happening, feel free to read on:
As best I can discern, Address Book is sending the print job to the Labelwriter, assuming the label spool is *centered on the spindle*. As you know, that's not the case. However, when you tell Address Book you're printing on a large shipping label, which takes up most of the spindle anyway, you can then adjust the margins (esp. the top margin) to print only on the "bottom half" of the shipping label. That means you've defined margins suitable to print on the actual address labels installed on the left side of the spindle.
