SMS 'from' address to iPhone is different

I'm not sure if this is unique to Google, Verizon, iPhone or some combination of the three, but I haven't found anyone else that has reported this on the Web.
I have a Google Group to send any update to it to my iPhone's SMS email address. When it arrives as an SMS message on my phone, the message shows it came from "[email protected]" where the part between '+' and '@' is different every time.
This makes it impossible to add this as a contact and associate a text tone to that user.
Is there something I can configure on the iPhone, Google or my Verizon account to prevent this behavior?
TIA,
Doug

douglane, there is nothing in the phone that can be changed to address this. The "form" address is auto-generated by the application sending the message, so it WILL be different each time. I recommend contacting Google to see if it could be standardized to resolve the problem.
Thanks,

  • How to send sms from iPad via iphone

How to send sms from iPad via iphone?

    You don't easily.
The pad, with I message turned on, will send text like messages to any other ios5 user that has I message turned on.
The pad is not a phone, and does not have the radio to send 'real' SMS messages, which use the phone channel.
There are a few apps in the store that will convert messages to SMS, for use with non apple folks.  Check out the app store.  Search SMS.

  • Setting a Custom Gmail "From" Address in iPhone Mail

I'm trying to set a different "From" or "Reply-to" address in the iPhone Mail app when using my Gmail account. I want the messages I send out to look like I've sent it from another e-mail account and not my gmail account. I tried the way Gmail recommends: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81375# but that doesn't seem to work. It might be a different function with the iPhone 3G/iPhone 2.0 software.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

Jrags, you can do this by setting up your email on your iPhone not using the "Gmail" option under "Add account" but rather the "Other" option." You can then specify the "from" address you want. You then also have to enter all the settings yourself for the Gmail incoming and outgoing servers.
While in general it works just fine, there is one quirk you should know about. When you set it up this way, and you also choose to have the copies of the messages you have sent saved on the Gmail server, it can take up to 24 hours for them to appear there. If you save the copies of your outgoing messages on your iPhone they are saved instantly.

  • From Address in iPhone Mail with multiple accounts

If anyone has a multiple email accounts setup on their iPhone, can they confirm that when they reply to a message in one mailbox, it has the from address set as that account and doesn't use the same from address for every email account setup. Eg, if I have [email protected] and [email protected] setup and when it go into the CNN Inbox, choose a message, press Reply, it has [email protected] as the from/account its sending from and if I go into the BBC inbox, choose a message, hit reply, it has [email protected] as the reply/account its sending from?

I am haveing the same problem and the Apple IT people know less than me. Per above, In Yahoo! Mail Plus I have 5 different email addresses forwarded to my Yahoo! account. When I send an email I u can select which email I want to send from. As it is now, with the Iphone, all my emails send out using my @yahoo address. As you can imagine this is embarasing if someone send me an email from a lawfirm and my response comes from a yahoo! account.
    Can you help me?

  • E71: Sending SMS from Address Book (Mac OS 10.4.11...

Is anyone using an E71 with a Mac?
It is supposedly possible to send an SMS from within Mac's Address Book, but I can't successfully do this despite the two gadgets having been paired and the Bluetooth icon appearing in the Address Book top bar.
    Do I need a plug-in or something?
    Thanks.

I don't think it's possible. I have the iSync plugin from Nokia (http://www.nokia.com.au/A4630409) and that's just for syncing your contacts between your E71 and Address Book as well as your calendar events. As for the feature you're looking for regrettably that's not available.

  • TS2755 can I receive an sms from a non iphone on my iPad

I have been reading articles in this web page trying to find out if it is possible to have my friends send me a test message from their non-iPhone to my iPhone and have that text routed to my iPad so that I may read it.  Then if i want, send them a reply on my iPad, which will in turn sink to my iPhone and send it out.  Is this possible or is there another method? Please note that I have an iPad which is Wi-Fi only and this activity would only happen when the iPad is linked to a Wi-Fi signal.

Unless the iPad has a cellular data connection, there is no such functionality on iPads.
iMessage is NOT an SMS message... it does not rely on cellular data, it uses any data connection available.

  • SMS from Address Book

I have paired my Nokia E60 without any problems, and it sync perfect, but when I tried to send a SMS from within the Address Book to a mobile phone and no way, it ask for pairing again ...
    Any idea?

Apple haven't updated Address Book for SMS and Call functions for years.
You'll need to enable that functionality within Address Book, using a third party tool.
For Nokia phones you can use and for Sony Ericsson phones a cheaper option is the Sony Ericsson Address Book Enabler.

  • Gmail: wrong "from" address on iPhone

Is set up my gmail account and am receiving email fine. I set my account up online and in the account section chose a different address as my "From" default.
When I send email from my gmail web account, it comes through from the correct address ([email protected]).
However, when I send from the iPhone, it comes through the gmail address ([email protected])
I've tried every setting and can't figure it out. Really frustrated! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I tried this set up, let me know what I did wrong, because I still can't get it to work right:
    Name: Jane Doe
    Address: [email protected]
    description: [email protected]
    Incoming:
    Host name: pop.gmail.com
    username: [email protected]
    password: xxxxxxx
    Outgoing:
    Host: mail.mycompany.com
    username: [email protected]
    pasword: xxxxxxx
With that setup, I thought it would work, but my test email still came in as @gmail.com
    Did I do something wrong?

  • Help! How can I transfer all my sms from my old iphone to my new one?

Someone can help me? Sorry for my English!!!

    Sync your old iPhone.
Then when you set up your new iPhone choose to set it up from back up. That way all your SMS etc will be on your new iPhone.

  • Exchange SMS from my old Iphone to the new one?

I would like all of my sms textmessages to transfer from my old Iphone3 to the new Iphone4. Is this possible?

No iTunes content on the iPhone including 3rd party apps are included with the iPhone's backup. All iTunes content on the iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer.
This is completely separate and not related to the iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The link I provided includes all info about the iPhone's backup - the data included with the backup, etc.
There is no setting to include or not included messages and the same for any other data that is included with the iPhone's backup. It is automatic per the link provided.
Check you check the link for MobileSyncBrowser and use that to see if the messages are available with your backup to extract by the utility? I believe there is a free trial that is limited but at least will determine if the messages are included with your old iPhone's backup. If not, they are gone unless they are still available on your old iPhone. If so, you can delete the existing backup for your old iPhone and manually create a new backup for your old iPhone with iTunes.
