SMS - iMac and Yosemite Requirements Question

A question about requirements for SMS....
iPhone running on 8.1.2
2010 iMac running on 10.10.1
2007 iMac running on 10.10.1
2012 Macbook Air also running on 10.10.1
SMS works fine on the Macbook Air (check)
SMS does NOT work on the 2010 iMac
SMS DOES work on the 2007 iMac
What is confusing to  me is I just went though about 2 hours with Apple support.  They discovered that the reason SMS is NOT working on the 2010 iMac is that under system information you see this:
BluetoothLow Energy Supported: No
Handoff Supported: No
Instand Hotspot Supported: No
Under the Macbook air, all these fields are YES.
Now here is the confusing thing...
On the iMac 2007, they are all set to NO, but SMS works fine!
So, my question is...
What are the true requirements to have SMS work correctly?
You need IOS 8 and Yosemite
You need a specific piece of hardware?
Support told me that the 2007 iMac should NOT be working because the Bluetooth fields are set to NO, but it does!
Any clarification in this would be appreciated.
And sorry this is so long!
Bluetooth Low Energy Supported: No

  Instant Hotspot Supported: No

  • Airport cards on both iMac and AppleTV require 'disabling' to get Full N

Both my iMac and my AppleTV will initially connect to my Base Station Extreme (N) at 130Mbit, even though the Base Station is set to 5GHz. If I disable the airport card on my iMac and re-enable it to re-establish connection I go up to 270Mbit. Same with the AppleTV.
This seems to happen consistently. Has anyone else come across this and is there a fix?

Mark, first welcome to the discussions.
There are so many things that could cause your problems.
More often than not doing a Software update, can cause loosing all sorts of things, for various reasons.
Here is a link that tells some recommended steps to follow to keep things like you have expierianced from happening.

If I may suggest, I have found that sometimes a complete System Reset will work.
    1st turn off your computers.
2nd Pull the Powere Adapters from both your Internet Service Providers Modem, and your Router.
Next you wait for 5 or so minutes.
After your wait start buy plugging in your Internet Service Providers Modem, and wait for it to re-gain the lights and your signal.
After you Modem has regained the signal and the lights, then you can plug back in your Router, and again you have to wait untill it regains the lights and signal on your Router.
Now if you haven't changed any of your settings you can restart your computers one at a time, and each computer should re-acquire the signal and should work.

  • Finder Error?? - 5k iMac and Yosemite

I have the LaCie 6TB 2big Thunderbolt 2/USB 3.0 Hard Drive connected to my 5K Retina iMac.
I have set it up as my Time Machine backup drive for the iMac's internal SSD (which only contains the system and application files), and have the "Backups.backupdb" folder at the root level of the LaCie drive.    Previously, I used the LaCie just like an ordinary hard drive, copying and storing all of my working data files there... for example, I have all of my documents, my iTunes Library, and my Lightroom Photo Catalog on this drive.
This morning, I had an unusual error when trying to save a Textedit document to this drive from within the application, and the desktop.   I got the following error.  If I authenticate, the file can be moved onto the volume.  I repaired disk permissions on the Lacie drive.  Error persists.   If I do a get info on the LaCie drive, the "Sharing and Permissions" are set to:
    System:  r & w
    wheel:  r
    everyone:  r
I changed wheel to r&w with no effect.
    Thoughts?   Comments?

What is the version of the drivers in bootcamp.xml?
Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support shows that the ability to directly download drivers is being deprecated. You should have version 5.1.5766.

  • 2010 iMac and Yosemite

I have a 2010 iMac with 12GB of RAM and over 2TB of hard drive space. Since I have loaded Yosemite, the computer seems to be running slower that it used to. Opening some files, trashing files, opening some files, etc. Just wondering if there is any solutions. Thanks....

    Thanks Allan,
I have downloaded and run EtreCheck. Here is the report:

  • Imac and ram simple question

I am getting a new imac in a couple of days, i aready have the 4gb of ram. The question is should i install it first, before i even turn on the imac????
is there a site or directions that tells you how to install ram??

It's a pretty simple procedure. The HOW can't be explained any better than in your little manual.
You should run it for a few days (or at least hours) to make sure everything works properly, with the original RAM. Try everything, stress it a bit by running multiple programs, like an iTunes video podcast at the same time as playing a QuickTime HD movie trailer. Once you are satisfied everything is working fine, then upgrade the RAM.

  • Help Please IMac and macbook pro Question

I brought my daughters Imac home for my husband and I to use. We bought her a macbook pro for college.  Her laptop is saying something about not recognizing her informatin because she was using the imac. Does anyone know what I need to do to disconnect her from the Imac so her laptop will work better?

I think you or her will have to call Apple, should be free 90 phone support on the new one.

  • Selling my iMac and have multiple questions

I am selling my imac with applecare still on it. First off, how do i transfer applecare? I see you can in the terms and conditons but it is kind of hard to understand. what exactly do i need to email to [email protected]? Second, I have Mountain Lion installed on my computer, but you get updates and such through the app store. Is the OS tied in any way to the apple id I purchased it with? Like will the new buyer be able to update and never see my apple id show up or need it? And lastly, how to I go about preparing the hard drive for a new owner? i.e. wipe all data, writing over it, not sure what the best option is here, then how to get mountain lion back on there as new computer. Thanks.

See > How To Prepare a Mac For Sale
and/or > MacTalk - Preparing Your Old Mac for Sale
As for installing an OS X, install the original OS X that came on the iMac as per the above article's and let the new owner thru Setup Assistant establish a new ID and personal account for buying App's and Upgrades.

  • I am running 10.7.5 on an imac and I want to upgrade to Yosemite but I have no app store on my computer. Is there a way I can get the app store on my imac?

I am running 10.7.5 on an imac and I want to upgrade to Yosemite but I have no app store on my computer. Is there a way I can get the app store on my imac?

If you don't have it then you will have to reinstall Lion:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
Then you can download and install Yosemite if your computer meets the system requirements:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite

Recently I updated my iMac to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1. All was operating smoothly for a few weeks until one day i started up and logged in my dock was nowhere to be seen. The desktop screen started flashing black replacing my desktop image. None of my desktop icons disappear when this happens. screen keeps flashing black every few seconds. Also the dock has disappeared.
I have restarted in safe boot and it makes no changes.
    iMAC X Yosemite 10.10.1
    Please help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • How can I rollback from Yosemite to Lion? I need to do this as I purchased a newer iMac and I have the old 17" iMac HD that I want to get the data migrated from. When I start the Migration Assistant it tells me that the OS X version is too old. Help!

I have purchased a newer mid 2011 iMac for my wife to replace her dead 17"iMac from 2006. It was running Snow Leopard. The new iMac has Yosemite and when I go into Migration Assistant it tells me that the OS X is too old, implying that I cannot get the data from it. How can I migrate this data to the new iMac? I have the hard drive removed and in an external enclosure connected to the new iMac.
    Thanks,
    Bill Stratman

Since any OS since Lion does not support Rosetta or PPC applications, you may want to check her apps for compatibility.
Have you tried to follow all the instructions here:
OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
Also, as a general note: when you got the 2011 iMac did it have the original OS installed as required by the SLA? The seller is to remove any OS version obtained at the app store since the license is not transferable - did he do that? If not, as the OS download is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it, you will not be able to update apps or reinstall the OS, so may I suggest you do this step now before you start porting over all the files. Use Internet Recovery: Hold Command + Option + R while restarting/rebooting until you see a spinning globe and a progress bar. After 2 - 10 minutes, you'll be connected to Apple's servers and see a Utilities window. Go to Disk Utility and choose erase your drive; once finished, go back to the window and choose to reinstall OS X. This should install a fresh original OS version which you can then update and tie to your wife's Apple ID.

  • SMS messages not syncing in iOS 8 and Yosemite

I'm using iOS 8 and Yosemite.  I was able to receive calls and sms messages from my phone on my computer.  That has all of a sudden stopped.  SMS contacts are now listed in red in Messages and are not delivered.  iCloud accounts are the same on both devices.  Any ideas?

    Hey srobs,
Thanks for the question, I can definitely understand how frustrating it may be when messaging does not work on your iPhone. The following resource provides some great troubleshooting steps that you can attempt:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
    1. Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
    2. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
    3. Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
    4. iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    5. Restart your device.
    6. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
    1. Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
    2. Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
    3. If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
    4. If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
    5. Back up and restore your device as new.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Can I un-install Yosemite from my iMac and re-install Mountain Lion?

Sorry to barge in like this but is it because you found it to have it's own way of doing stuff without your control? As i was thinking of doing the same thing because i found Mountain Lion much more user friendly.I know you came for an answer just was searching and came accross your question.
Hope you find the answer. good luck.

    Hey there denise.ca,
I see that you have a question about one of the functions of USB syncing. To answer your question, yes, you can sync contacts from your computer to your iPhone using USB syncing and iTunes:
