SMS Message Bar commands dissapear

I've gone from 3G to 3Gs to 4 and have loved 'em all. I have not experienced any of the issues that have been posted here, but my iPhone4 does have one peculiar and frustrating recurring problem. On almost a daily basis, upon either receipt or transmission of an SMS, the "Messages" bar which contains the commands "<messages" and "Edit" for some reason no longer displays these command buttons. The only way I can restore is to power down and up again. Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a fix?

Close the HSDPA modem application first, then try to connect thru Hyper terminal.

  • OS 5.0, Storm: URLs in SMS messages stop being clickable after the thread is opened the first time

    I'm running 5.0.0.328 on a VZW Storm 9530.
    After upgrading, I noticed that URLs in SMS messages and e-mails stop being clickable after a certain time.  I'm not sure that this is so much a time issue as it is one with just getting X number of messages then breaking, but it works like this:
    Battery Pull occurs
    Storm reboots
    Look at SMS messages, URLs can be clicked, opening them in the Browser
    go on about my day
    Get more SMS/eMail messages
    Look at SMS messages, URLs can NOT be clicked.  Have to be copied/pasted into browser to view.
    Battery Pull occurs
    Storm Reboots
    I can again click on URLs and open them in browser
    And that's how it goes.  Initially, after a battery pull, the URLs in various SMS are underlined.  Clicking them opens them in the browser.  OR, I can touch them and hit the BB button, and select Open Link in Browser from the menu.
    After some more testing, the problem appears to be related to the threading of SMS messages.
    My test case is twitter.  ALL my twitter messages are thrown into a single thread (I do NOT want this, by the way, I want individual SMS messages, NOT threads of them).  SO let's say, for example, I have 25 SMS messages in the twitter thread.  Immediately after the battery pull, I can open the thread, and after a moment, all URLs are underlined, clickable, and if I touch/hold for a second, highlighted and can be opened via the BB menu.
    After exiting that thread to do other things, and then coming back to that thread, I have found that OLD SMS messages in the thread (the original 25 that were there when I did the battery pull) are still underlined, clickable, and so forth.  However, any NEW messages added to the thread after I opened it the first time, are NOT clickable, NOT underlined.
    My theory at this point is that the code that parses the SMS messages in a thread and then underlines the URLs making them usable, only runs that first time, and either does not run, or fails to run, on subsequent openings of that SMS thread.
    Thus, if the messages were NOT threaded, then the code would run when each individual SMS was opened, eliminating this problem.  OR, having that code run EVERY TIME a thread is viewed, to ensure it does the underlining/grabbing of URLs for new SMS messages.

  • SMS messages in other but English languages

    Is there any problem to send/receive non-English messages? I have installed the second language that I wanted, it shows correctly, I can even type in it using two different layouts, the media files can be either in English or in this language, MP3 tags are recognized correctly. But when I receive SMS message that I sent from my own computer via the Internet gate @tmomail.net it shows up with '?' signs. It looks like the required font is missing, but why if the rest of the device works perfectly with the same language? I have already tried different coding systems including unicode, no luck.

    Hi,
    Try using SET LANGUAGE or SET LOCALE LANGUAGE commands.
    Make sure that the messages are translated and exist in ITALY before you do this.
    Also this will effect only TEXT ELEMENTS not the Message in the message class that is T100 messages are not effected.

  • Most Recent SMS Messages Hidden After Restore

    So, I was having trouble with by browser and decided to do a wipe and restore. Turns out the problem was with the google page that i was trying to load, which the browser didnt like very much.
    Anyway, I backed up my data right before using the security wipe, then I restored the data from the same backup file and everything seemed to work fine. However, when i go into the hub, i see the previews of SMS's that have been sent to me in the few hours since i resored the phone, but when i select the text, it opens, jitters around a bit, and then only displays texts that i recieved yesterday. Nothing from today.
    So since i can see the most recent texts in the hub previews, i know they are on the phone. but when i open the conversation they dissapear...
    Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know a fix?
    Thanks!

    Hi cameronh,
    When these SMS messages first arrived, did you open and read them without any issue, or did they appear with the same behavior that they do now?
    Thanks.

  • RAZR Verizon - SMS Message not fixed by 10.4.7

    I installed the 10.4.7 update and I still can't use the "SMS Message" function in the "Address Book"
    I have a Verizon RAZR V3c. iSync was updated to version 2.3. The phone synchronizes with the address book perfectly, but i would really like to use the SMS Message function.
    Any Info???

    Having the same problem with the SLVR, Cingular. Everything else works fine, syncing, file transfer, everything, just can't get the "SMS" or "Dial with Cell Phone" commands in the Address Book to work.
    When I hit the Bluetooth button in the Address Book, it asks me to pair the devices, enter a code (I've used both 0000 and the 8 digit code given by the Bluetooth Set Up Assistant), but the SMS and Dial commands will not "un-grey."
    I've also noticed that when I use the "Find Devices" command from the phone, it won't find anything, despite the fact that my computer is already paired and set to automatically accept connection. As I said, file transfer, syncing, etc. all work fine.
    Everything worked fine with my SE T68i.
    Anyone?

    Not easily.
    If you want, you can download and use the ABC Amber IPD converer software on your PC to extract the SMS messages from your device backup IPD file, made using Desktop Manager.

  • Unable to read SMS messages received on Xperia Arc

    Hi,
    I am unable to read SMS messages I have received on my Xperia Arc.  They arrive ok to my handset (as they appear in the notification bar) but when I go to open it up under Messaging they don't appear.  When I send messages they also don't appear in the conversation.
    I assume there is a related symptom to my problem, my Call Log doesn't get updated anymore.
    Any ideas?  I have looked at thread 28371 and seems similar problems but I did not drop my phone...
    I have installed avast! Mobile Security in case I have a virus but it comes up clean.
    Cheers, Paul.

    I agree with Slimshaddy's comment above. Make sure the time and date is set correctly on your phone. If you continue to have the problem, try resetting the phone and ensuring the time and date it set correctly before you receive any more messages.

  • How do i restore sms messages from backup

    I had an appointment at the genius bar today and they restored my iphone 4 to factory settings. i was told all my texts (SMS and iMessage) were backed up. I was told to open an iTunes and setup the iPhone as a "new phone" rather than restore from my backup file. Does anyone know how I can restore just the SMS/iMessage part of the backup? thanks!

    Actually, there's a way to restore deleted SMS directly from iPhone 5/4S/4/3GS.
    If you've ever synced your iPhone with iTunes before, there is also another way: to recover from iTunes backup for all iPhones including iPhone 5 and iphone4S. You just need the help from an iPhone text message recovery tool.
    Part 1: Directly recover deleted photos from iPhone 5/4S/4/3GS
    1:Connect your iPhone to the computer
    At first, please connect your iPhone to the computer and run the program after installing it.
    2:Enter your iPhone's system and scan it (iPhone 5/4S users can skip this step)
    After downloading the plug-in, you need to get into the device's scanning mode before scanning. You can follow the steps below:
    1)Hold your iPhone and click the "Start" button.
    2)Pressing the "Power" and "Home" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.
    3)After 10 seconds, release the "Power" button, but keep holding "Home" for another 15 seconds.
    3: Preview and recover iPhone messages
    When the scan is completed, choose "Messages" to preview the detailed content. Mark those you want and click "Recover" to save them on your compute with one click.
    Part 2: Scan and extract iTunes backup to recover iPhone SMS
    1: Scan your iTunes backup for iPhone 5/4S/4/3GS
    After installing and running the program, move to "Recover from iTunes Backup File" and you'll get the interface as follows. All your iTunes backup files have been found and displayed. Choose the one for your iPhone and click the"Start Scan" button.
    2: Preview and recover iPhone SMS
    Only need to check the "Messages" option and hit the "Recover" to save all the messages on your computer.
    3:Do backup well
    In order to save your important SMS messages, immediate backup is very useful and important. Please remember to backup them on your computer .

  • SMS Messages--can send but not receive--why?

    I can send SMS messages from my desktop or laptop through the Skype webpage, but if someone tries to respond, they get an error message that says, "failed message".  Why can I not receive SMS messages back to my Skype account online?

    OK, so who is paying for it?
    I would make sure that you have the personal BIS account enabled on your carrier account.

  • Sms messaging not working on iPhone 6

    I Have iPhone 6 + with iOS of 8.0.2.  It seems that I am having trouble sending and receiving certain text messages. I believe they are SMS text messages. Help!

    Hey Loey814,
    Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues sending SMS messages on your iPhone 6 Plus. The following resource may provide a solution. I have highlighted the initial troubleshooting steps, but be sure to check out the full article for additional advanced steps:

  • Address Book & SMS Messaging

    Hello,
    To start things right here's my setup:
    PowerMac, Dual G5 (2GHz), 3gb's RAM, 250gb HDD, Mac OS X version 10.4.9 (Build 8P135).
    Address Book version 4.0.4 (485.1).
    Motorola RAZR V3 Phone (recently purchased on 2/12/07), Cingular Wireless, bluetooth enabled/functioning.
    I have "Adium" Chat installed (version 1.0.1, dated 2/16/07).
    I completely removed Skype (can't recall version).
    NOTE: I've already successfully paired this phone with my computer -- it syncs up beautifully with the Address Book & iCal.
    Here's what I'd like to do: send SMS Messages from my Address Book through my mobile phone.
    When I try to do so, after following the instructions in the Address Book "Help" viewer, I only see greyed out "SMS Message" and/or "Dial With Cell Phone" options after I choose someone's mobile phone.
    I'd really like to use this feature. It does come in handy.
    Thinking that Skype had brought my Mac to this end, I removed it entirely from my system (using Spotlight to locate any file remotely connected to it). I rarely used the application anyway.
    Does anyone use "SMS Messaging" through their Address Book (via their mobile phone)?
    Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use this wonderfully intriguing feature of the Mac OS & Address Book?
    Thanks!
    -Jason

    With Bluetooth on, if you look at Address Book's window you should see a bluetooth icon on the top bar, to the right of the drop-down menu icon that looks like a wee gear wheel. This bluetooth icon needs to be blue for SMS messaging. If it is grey, click it and see if anything interesting happens.

  • Send SMS using AT command in LabWindows?

    I managed to call..using the ATD command but now I am having problems in sending a SMS message..
    In hyperterminal the commands are the following:
    AT+CMGF=1 \r
    AT+CMGW="0040766562692" \r
    The GSM / GPRS modem will then return a prompt "> " and you can start typing the SMS text message.
    >Have a nice day.
    When finished, press Ctrl+z of the keyboard.
    Here is what I tried to do...but nothing happens:
    int commandSendSMS()
          char bW1[100];
          Fmt(bW1,"%s","AT+CMGF=1\r");
       ComWrt(4, bW1, 10);
       Fmt(bW1,"%s","AT+CMGW=\"0040766562692\"\r");
       ComWrt(4, bW1, 25);
       Fmt(bW1,"%s","Have a nice day.\032" );
       ComWrt(4, bW1, 18);
          return 0;
    I use \032 to replace <ctrl+z> is that correct?
    What am I doing wrong...please help!

    Ok, the situation seems to be a bit more clear now. Here what I would do, using GetInQLen and ComRd to test answers from the modem:
       char   bW1[64], msg[512];
       // Send first part of the commands
       strcpy (bW1, "AT+CMGF=1\r");
       ComWrt (4, bW1, strlen (bW1));
       Delay (0.1);
       strcpy (bW1, "AT+CMGW=\"0040766562692\"\r");
       ComWrt (4, bW1, strlen (bW1));
       Delay (0.1);
       // Test for answer from the modem
       ComRd (4, msg, GetInQLen (4));
       if (!strlen (msg) || strcmp (msg, "> ")) {
          MessagePopup ("Error", "No answer from the modem or incorrect answer!");
          goto Error;
       // Send SMS text to the modem
       strcpy (bW1, "Have a nice day.\032" );
       ComWrt (4, bW1, strlen (bW1));
       Delay (0.1);
       // Test for answer from the modem
       ComRd (4, msg, GetInQLen (4));
       if (!strlen (msg) || strncmp (msg, "+CMGW", 5)) {
          MessagePopup ("Error", "No answer from the modem or incorrrect answer!");
          goto Error;
       // Find ref number and issue the command to actually send the message
       Scan (msg, "%s[dtzz]%d", &x);   // substitute 'zz' with ASCII code for ':'
       sprintf (bW1, "AT+CMSS=%d\r", x);
       ComWrt (4, bW1, strlen (bW1));
    I wrote this code from memory: please double check and complete it before running it.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
