SMS not working - never has.

Hi all,
I have supposed to have had SMS on my landline since it came out.
I bought a set of Philips cordless phones for the purpose.  They were the best cordless phones that I’d ever come across, great, clear sound quality, functionality etc.
The SMS wouldn’t work.
I got the ‘audio’ version of a message,,,,, but not the ‘visual’ one.
My initial contact with BT met with;  “it should work (!?!?),,,,,  - probably the 3rd party phones are incompatible with the service” ! And as such, wouldn’t look into it much.
Rather reluctantly, I bought a set of BT Verve phones.  Excitedly, I sent myself a test message, only to find that they were the same. When I say “the same”, I meant that I still didn’t get the visual version of the SMS – not that the quality of the phones were the same, as they weren’t. They are nowhere as good as the original Philips ones – that I had now given to my old neighbours.
I tried BT again, but they said that as I am getting the audio version of the SMS, that there must be a problem with my gear.
I had visions of them saying “you only need to spend more pounds on a special bit of kit” etc, so I gave up.  It has never worked since.  I have refrained from giving my number out for SMS purposes, so have to keep my mobile phone on all day, just to receive said messages.
The only reason that I am brining it up again now, is that at 2:45 this morning, my phone/s went.  I am now a disabled pensioner, and due to pain and medication, my sleep pattern is not as it should be.  I relish the short periods of sleep that I pinch here & there.
I have a young adult Son, who has just returned from Oz.  He bought a cheap car to keep him going till he makes his mind up whether he’s staying in the UK, or going back to Australia.    Earlier in the day, he called to say that it was over-heating, so when the phone went at that time in the morning, it scared me to death (well, almost. In my condition, it could well have).   As I struggled to get to the phone, my answer machine cut in.   I still had to make it to my lounge to listen to the recording, in case there was an emergency - because - no one in their right mind would actually telephone me at 2:45 for a chat !
When I heard the audio message reverberating from the machine, firstly; I was so relieved that it was nothing serious, & secondly; so dammed annoyed that I had expended so much energy, in so much pain, just to listen to it – I almost broke down.  Of course, I have not slept since then, which will bu@@er up another day.
Apologies for the rambling, but I wanted to show how these tiny niggles can effect different people, differently.
My question/s:
1) Can I get this ‘so called service’ working ?
2) If I can’t – can I get it stopped altogether ?
3) When/if it is working, does the phone ring when a SMS is received – or what happens ?  If the phone rings, then I may not want the service anyway – it defeats my object.  Another set of 2nd quality phones later,,,,,,,,,,
All The Best to you all for the
NEW YEAR

  • MMS not working, never has.

    So, a couple of weeks ago I upgraded my 8gb 2g to a 32gb 3gs with an unlimited-everything monthly package.
    Being that the 2g wasn't "able" to send/receive mms natively, I was excited at finally being able to with this shiny, new phone.
    Problem is, is that I have still yet to be able to successfully send or receive any mms to or from anybody.
    I have reset my network settings, made sure mms was in fact turned on and done multiple hard resets. I feel like a restore shouldn't be necessary as this is practically brand new and I have no other issues with it.
    People send me pictures (so they tell me!) and I get zero indication that such a thing has even been attempted (on my old phone it would just send me a weblink to view the picture). And when I try to send a picture to another person, the sending status bar gets to about 95% and then craps out, EVERY TIME and I get the little red exclamation point next to the photo I tried to send.
    Any thoughts or help?

    You're welcome.
    Did you have a messaging plan with your original iPhone? If so, it included text, photos, and video but not with the original iPhone since it does not support MMS. When switching to a 3G or 3GS that does support MMS, this must be provisioned for your line/number with your iPhone which is handled differently than any other phone that supports MMS. This should be done automatically by AT&T when switching from an original iPhone to a 3G or 3GS, but sometimes the ball gets dropped in this regard.

  • My Apple TV does not work and has never worked.

    My Apple TV does not work and has never worked. I replaced it twice and replaced my router and DSL modem but no luck. I spent hours on tech support with both apple and my ISPs with no luck. Any ideas? Is the Apple TV a donation to apple? I have had the device for 8 months but it will not work for longer than 15 minutes before it drops with network errors. All of my other devices work perfectly on the network including 2 iPads, laptops and an old wii. I love apple products and this is the first real disappointment I have had. The Apple TV seems like a major dud of a product.

    Seems unlikely you have had two faulty replacements, and more likely that there may be some network compatibility issue or problem with reception in the location the AppleTV lies - anything close to it that might be interfering?
    I am assuming you are connected via wifi - if you can try an ethernet connection to rule wifi issues out.
    Could you try it at somone else's house maybe?  If it worked there it would point to something specific at your location.
    You could try replacing it again I guess or seeing if they can offer you credit or a refund.

  • Another Handoff not working - Apple has some work to do still

    By the number of post I see about handoff problems…. it looks like Apple still has some work to do on this feature.  I have read countless forum posts and replies and it seems that a large number of us are having trouble with this feature.
    I have pulled all my hair out trying to sort this out…. not so much as I care about the feature as I am the type that can't stand it when I can't get something working.
    My hardware is all supported 2012 MBP with Yosemite Bluetooth LMP 0x6
    iPhone 5s
    Same Wifi
    Bluetooth on both devices
    Both on same iCloud account turned on and active
    Both have handoff enabled in respective settings
    The only time I have been able to get it to work is when I wipe both iCloud accounts and then sign back on after a restart then I get the handoff dock icon when doing something like creating a new email.  But it will works once or twice and then stops all together.  Randomly sometime the icon will be on the lock screen of the iPhone.
    Very frustrating Apple!
    (Yea I know 1st world problem)

    Over the last week I have tried every "Windows Vista" combination of unchecking handoff, FaceTime, and signing in and out of iCloud while patting my head and rubbing my belly.  And absolutely nothing worked.  A few times I got handoff to work one time and then disappear again after a restore and power cycle but none of the countless tips I have read and seen worked.
    Until today.  I was listening to the iMore Podcast this week and they were ranting about all the people that are having continuity issues and one small blurb was mentioned that I had never heard, and this little gem was solving the handoff woes for some people.  So what the heck I have tried everything else and this was simple enough.
    The solution:  Change the name of your iPhone.  Setting>General>About>Name
    I did this in combination with all the other Windows Vista Vudoo Handoff, FaceTime, iCloud off on both devices then power cycle.
    Well once I restarted and got everything turned back on.  It worked perfect…. everything single aspect is not working as Apple had intended it to work.
    Go figure…. who would have thought????

  • MacBook Pro SMS Not Working

    Lately on my MacBook Pro Retina Display my SMS is not working. It was working fine n smoothly when iOS 8 came out, but think between a month or two it hasn’t been working properly. I can’t recieve or send regular SMS. How could i fix this?  *Every software is updated from iPhone to MacBook*.

    Hi Davin12,
    It sounds like there’s a Continuity issue that’s preventing you from sending and receiving SMS messages on your MacBook Pro. Take a look at the article linked below and try the troubleshooting suggestions it provides.

  • Nike receiver not recognized - never has

    have ipod nano ver. 1.3.1 and the Nike accessory does not show up in my menu. never has. It just is not seeing the receiver. I even reset my nano. still no go. I took my ipod to the running shoe store where I bought the accessory and they tried another reciver in the ipos. still not showing up. Any ideas?

    Well this is what I was talking about.
    Before the Nike receiver will be recognized by your computer you have to install the Nike receiver program.. go to http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/ . On this page there is a SUPPORT button on the bottom right. In the popup menu on that button, there is a link to the DOWNLOADS page. Download the version appropriate for you, either Mac or PC. After you install that the receiver will be recognized as soon as you plug it in. There is a "?" in the bottom corner of the Nike mini app. That is where you set your Nike username and other info.

  • SMS not working on iPhone 5s

    SMS is not working on my new I phone 5s

    Well, what happens when you try and SMS? What makes you think that it is nor working? What troubleshooting have you tried? If this is SMS and not iMessage, SMS is a carrier function, have you checked with your carrier?
    Without knowing more information, it could be anything wrong.

  • Why "send sms" not work in flash lite3 ???

    hello
    i write this code for send sms in device :
    on(release) {
    if(_capSMS)
    getURL("sms:" add myNumber add "?body=" add myText);
    it work fine in flash lite1.1 & 2.x
    but not work in flash lite 3 !!!!!
    what shall i do ? please help me
    can i make the command geturl to work on flashlite 3?
    or how can i open an url from flash lite 3?
    please help me

    Hi,
    It appears that the problem is with the security sandbox. To
    be able to send an SMS, it looks like you have to publish for Flash
    Lite 3, and in the Publish Settings, set 'Local playback security'
    to 'Access network only'. I used the following code:
    on (release) {
    if (System.capabilities.hasSMS) {
    getURL("sms:" + myNumber + "?body=" + myText);
    And it would only work when the publish settings were set as
    above. This was testing on a Nokia E65 with the developer edition
    of FL3 installed.
    Hope this helps!
    Darren

  • IPhone 5 - iMessage and SMS not working

    I was unaware that I wasn't received messages.  I don't text that often and didn't realize until yesterday that I hadn't received any messages until a friend told me she had been trying to text me.   I managed to send one text and receive 2 from her, but that's it.  I've sent several since then and they all show as sent, but apparently have disappeared into the ether since no one has received them.  I also haven't been able to receive any other texts.  I've tried a network reset twice, rebooting the phone, etc.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

    I didn't do a restore yet, but it seems like iMessage is working for me now, but not SMS.  I don't have time tonight, but I think I'll try the restore tomorrow and see if that helps.

  • Sms not working in iMessage

    This was all working fine linking with my iPhone 5s, then I suddenly noticed I was getting SMS on the phone but not on iMessage. When I try to send sms, it just reports them as 'Not Delivered, Could not be sent'.
    Nothing has changed on the phone or the Mac (although this could go back as far as the last iOS update, cant be sure.
    Logged phone out from Apple ID (message and facetime), logged facetime and imessage out on the mac. Logged both apps on the phone first, then facetime (works fine), then imessage.
    Logins all report they have worked and all devices show up where they should, but still cant send or receive sms from Mac (works ok on phone)
    Help!

    Hi,
    Both the iOS and the Mac OS X have apps called Messages.
    They are different but compatible.
    On enabling the app on the iPhone it can send iMessages as it registers the iPhone Number with the iMessages Servers. If you try to send to an Non Apple device or one that is not Registered then it will send SMS to the Phones involved (and tell you it can't to the others).
    The Mac App registers an Apple ID with the iMessages servers.  However it can also join 4 other services.
    In the latest software on both devices you can no link the iPhone and Mac for SMS.
    It does need both to be linked using the Apple ID on the iPhone so that iMessages that are sent display on both devices. Then it needs both to be on the same network.  Generally this means the iPhone is WiFi whilst the Mac can be Ethernet or WiFi.
    The iPhones can always send SMS when they have a carrier service.
    The Process that links the two uses the iPhone to send the SMS.
    Resetting can be a good place to start.
    As the iPhone can send SMS and this is a choice after activating the app on the iPhone it suggests that in Send and Receive on then iPhone that the Number is showing active for being linked to the iMessages servers.
    Removing the Apple ID should be followed by making the app break with the servers.
    I use putting it in Airplane Mode for two minutes and then going back to the Settings.
    This will tend to cause the iPhone Number to Verify again with the servers.
    After that has finished Add back the apple ID.
    This should trigger the pop ups on the Mac version which you should accept (it re-links the Apple ID and iPhone number even though they still appear in the settings).
    After that reset the Text Forwarding on the iPhone which should trigger the Code (a new one) appearing on the Mac version.
    The Code number needs entering on the iPhone.
