SMS Relay stopped working

Ever since upgrading to iOS 8.1, I've been using SMS relay, no problem with my iMac. Today not so much. When I try to message someone without an iCloud account, I get an error that says they are not registered with iMessage.
Both devices are on the same wireless connection. Text Message Forwarding is turned on on the iPhone and it is paired with my computer. I have rebooted both devices and logged out and back into iCloud on both devices.
Very frustrating!

In Yosemite, deleting the cache from Macintosh HD/Library/Cache and rebooting fixed the problem.

  • SMS relay only works with one iMac or Macbook Pro, but not both?

I recently got a new iMac (5K). I already own a Macbook Pro 13" (bought in 2013). When I got the new iMac, I wanted to transfer all my data from my Macbook onto the new iMac, so I used the most recent time machine back-up from my Macbook to install onto the new iMac. No issues there. I also own an iphone 5s and ipad mini (1st generation), all with the most recent software updates. Approximately 1 week ago, SMS relay stopped working between my iMac and my iphone. I could type an SMS text message on my iMac, send it, and although it would transmit to the recipient, it would say "not delivered" on my iMac (it would show up as delivered successfully on my iphone). Consequently any SMS messages received would not show up on my iMac. I use the same login for my macbook pro and my iMac and for some reason my iphone stopped listing my iMac as one of the devices for SMS relay. I was on-line with Apple support for 3+ hours yesterday trying to figure out why this wasn't working. I did an SMC reset which temporarily fixed the problem, but as soon as I tried to use SMS relay with both the macbook pro and the iMac, the phone would only recognize one of them and ultimately always choose the macbook pro.
iMessage chats still sync just fine but the SMS chats do not any more. I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue, and if they did, are there any fixes?
    Thanks,
    Jon

Both the mini-displayport plugs and TB plugs are physically compatible which is why you can plug it in.   But if the iMac has a mini-displayport for video it won't work with the TB display.
Check your System Profile to see if it tells you whether you have a TB port.  And if there is no information about that post here or look up for yourself the kind of ports for that model of iMac.  System Profiler will give yo that information (click Hardware on the left).  From the model information it can be definitively determined whether that imac supports TB.
Also, so long as the Displays system preferences is not showing an Arrangement tab then it is not detecting the second display.

  • SMS relay from work iPhone to personal iPhone

8.1 and Yosemite installed. I have two 5S', one for work and one personal. Both phones are registered under my single Apple ID.
I'd like to get SMS relay to send texts from the work phone (silver) to the personal phone (gold), so I can leave one phone home and just deal with one phone. SMS relay is working fine between my phones and my Mac.
When I try to select my personal phone from the "Text Message Forwarding" setting, it says to enter the code that is displaying on the iPhone, but no code displays on either phone.
I have made sure that my email is selected under "You can be reached by iMessage at:" on both phones.
Both phones are on the same Wi-Fi subnet and can definitely see each other, as the Phone handoff functionality seems to work fine as one incoming call makes both of them ring.
    Any ideas?

    This worked for me!
I have an old iPhone 4S that I use around the farm and at the gym.  I wanted it to connect using continuity services to my iPhone 6+ which has the mobile service plan attached to it (the 4S does not).    I had to turn ON Airplane Mode and then turn on WiFi and Bluetooth.   In the FaceTime settings the "iPhone Cellular Calls" is turned on as well.
I can not make OUTGOING calls on the 4S it says I must re-enable Airplane Mode; however, I can receive calls on the 4S as long as the 6Plus is on the same WiFi network.
    Hope this helps.

  • SMS relay not working with non-iMessage users?

One of the features I'm most looking forward to in Yosemite is the ability to text people without iPhones. I attempted to do this tonight, but the message failed to send and the person's name was in red. I got the standard "message failed" note, like I get on my iPhone when a message doesn't go through, but I thought it should have gone through just fine.
More info: the contact is in red, not blue or green, and when I type the phone number I get the "this contact is not registered with iMessage" error message. Of course it's not - the contact is not an Apple user!
My iPhone is an iPhone 6 running iOS 8.0.2 and my Mac is running Yosemite 10.10.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    Michael M

I am fortunate to report that it is, in fact, working for me, as evidenced by the fact that I sent and received an SMS to and from an Android user. There was a bit of a hiccup when I enabled SMS relay on my iPhone, as the code which was required popped up and then canceled itself. Once I canceled the entire process, and re-linked the two (Macbook Air and iPhone 6) the pairing and relay went off without a hitch.
Try this: start from the phone, then the iMac. Only input the code in Messages on your iMac after the link is established. I have a feeling it might not truly be synced yet.

  • N73 sms tone stopped working

once again the sms tone on my N73 has stopped working AGAIN. My phone does not inform me at all that I have a new sms. Inorder to check I have to go into the messages section of the menu to check. Here is what I have tried
    - Soft reset (settings->restore factory defaults)
    - Firmware upgrade (i have the latest version now)
    - Hard resets (using some code I found)
    - Changing profile settings with different tones
    - Changing profiles all together
With the exception of the firmware upgrade all of the above have been tried several times.
Any more suggestions. I am sick of this phone and I am about to throw it away. How is this so hard to fixed

Since you have did, that would normally solve the software issue if there is. It is highly provable that you got an intermittent hardware issue, a visit to Nokia Care Center would be a good idea.
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

  • My sms tones stopped working, why?

My sms tones were working fine and then all of a sudden they stopped.  I've checked my alerts, sounds and all that good stuff and still nothing.  All it does is vibrate.  Does anyone know why this happens? or what can I do to fix it?

My iPhone has the very same problem.
I found that this is only happening with original (old) sms sounds (Tri-tone, Chime, Glass, Horn, Bell ou Eletronic). New sounds work fine (Anticipate, Bloom, Calypso, ...). But when I set to any old sound, it only vibrates.
I've already reseted the iPhone. Didn't work.

  • Getting SMS relay to work with 2 macs

    Hey guys,
So I have an iMac (late 2013 running OS 10.10.1) and a Macbook Air. (mid 2013 running OS 10.10.1) I've just noticed that SMS relay (from iPhone 6 running 8.1.1) only wants to work with one of the computers at a time, and on top of that, the devices listed under Text Message Forwarding in settings will have the wrong name.
To try and explain, if I have my iMac set up for SMS relay then in my device options for forwarding I'll have
    Quinn's iMac
    Quinn's iPad
    Nick's Mac
All my devices should be Quinn’s X.  However Nick is my first name.
Whereas if I do some jiggery-pokery (signing in and out of iCloud, turn iMessages on and off etc) and set up the MBA first I get this
    Quinn's Macbook Air
    Quinn's iPad
    Nick's Mac
So the correct name for MBA is recognise now, but not the iMac.
It refuses to acknowledge both computers at the same time. The wrong name is always the same and it just switches about depending which computer I set up forwarding on first. And if I try and activate it using the wrong name, nothing happens.
A couple of points which may help to explain this.
The wrong name is my first name and so it's what the device name was originally called when set up, but I change that straight away to just Quinn’s X.
I set up my iMac from a Time Machine back up of my MBA
I think possibly somewhere between the 2 is where it's getting confused. That a) the device names aren't the pre-assigned ones and b) they are set up from the same settings initially.
So my question is this. Has anyone had this problem, and how did they resolve it?
I fear I may have to wipe one of the computers and start over, probably MBA as it’s my secondary computer. Try and rid my settings of what ever it being used to identify both computers. Pain in the arse to do that and would rather not have to so if anyone else has any suggestions let me know
As I said earlier, I've done all the off/on sign out/sign in business with all the devices multiple times and that's doing nothing.  Also, I have just noticed, last thing I did was to configure my iMac to be the one to receive SMS relay. Now I’m out of the house with my MBA, my iPhone is showing that as being the computer that is set up and a quick test confirms this.
    Man I’m so confused.
    Cheers

I have this exact problem now.  I can only "pair" my imessage to 1st macbook and 1 iPad.  iMessage won't recognize nor sync messages on the second macbook.  When I open the imessages screen on the 2nd MBP, the text bubbles are all green indicating I am sending via SMS and not even sending via iMessage (which has blue text bubbles).
This is really a problem because I need 2 mac's, one for home media use and 1 on the road for work use and I love using iMessage.

  • HELP !  Outgoing Relay Stopped Working ! 553 Error

    Please help,
My company mail can not relay outgoing mail for user. We can send emails within the company just fine. But once send outgoing mail to external email, server kept sending back non-delivery mail notices. As following (an example I am trying to send mail to a google account)
    "host aspmx.l.google.com[72.14.213.27] said: 553 sorry,
that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) (in reply to
    RCPT TO command)"
I am running on standard implementation of OS X Server 10.6.x, my email server worked just fine in last couple of weeks. And suddenly it is broken for outgoing relay. (I don't know what I have done... on it, changed server name in server preference, maybe, and I have two NIC working, binding to 192.168.0.10 (in LAN), and 192.168.8.10 (DMZ) which has a port forwarding done by my firewall protection box.
Meanwhile, all income mail is just fine to every email user.

    Many thanks,

    Problem solved.
It was my firewall service provider screwed things up by doing smtp intervention and, obvious they did it very wrongly.
Just serve as general alert, I use network-box firewall service, seemed their technician don't know what they are doing in most of time and ever since use them, they have screwed my internet connection many many times.

  • Email and SMS notifications stop working occassion...

I recently updated the firmware on my E71 to the latest.  I now have an issue where the email and SMS notifications on the home page periodically disappear.  Once the notification icons have disappeared, I need to restart my device in order to get the icons back again.  This never happened with the old firmware.
Is this happening to anyone else?  Thank you.

    Sounds like an software issue..
Perhaps you may wanna try reinstall the firmware on your phone or do the following:
    - A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345

  • Can't set up Handoff/SMS Relay

    Hi,
I'm using an iPhone 5 w/ iOS 8.1 and a Mac mini (Late 2012) running Yosemite. The problem is I can't get either Handoff or SMS Relay to work.
I made sure to enable Handoff in FaceTime settings and System Preferences on my Mac, Wi-Fi is also on on both devices, but neither of these features work.
There's another issue with SMS Relay: when I try to set it up on iPhone it tells me to enter the code shown on my Mac, but the problem is it never actually shows me any code.
I'm not really sure if it's a problem with the iPhone or Mac or both.
    Any ideas, guys?
    Thanks!

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details.

  • SMS relay via Iphone 6 NOT working - why?

    Hey all.
So I upgraded to Yosemite. Looks nice.
The "receive calls on your Mac" feature works fine on both my MacBook Air and my iMac. Not sure how much I'll use it though.
However, the function where you can send non iMessage texts via iMessage (i.e. regular SMS) is NOT working for some odd reason.
I get the usual "red" on the name I'm trying to send a message to and an error pop-up that this person is not hooked up to iMessage.
Shouldn't this just work? Or is there something I need to do tick off first?
I can place calls on my iPhone 6 via my Macs just fine - it's just the SMS function that's not active for some reason.
Hope someone can help - because this is a function I've really looked forward to and know I'll be using a LOT.
    Best,
    Jesper

I saw somewhere else in the forums that this  feature would work as of iOS 8.1 due out Monday....  but honestly don't know if there's any basis to that...  it's just a couple of days... why don't you wait and install iOS 8.1 on your phone and then try again...

  • SMS Auto-Correction Stops Working

I've noticed lately that sometimes I'll be typing and my iPhone's Auto-Correction feature stops working. For example if I were to accidentally type "dod", it would normally correct it and change it to "did". Or if I don't capitalize " i ", it'll change it to " I ". Lately however, this feature hasn't been consistently working and it's becoming increasingly annoying to have to meticulously type out each individual character. Any ideas what might be causing this, or how I could fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

You might have inadvertently stored some incorrect spellings in your keyboard dictionary. You can reset it by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
Check this page for hints on using the keyboard dictionary: http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#basics.dictionary

  • DFS replication stopped working and cannot be debugged because WMI repository cannot be accessed

    Hello,
two days ago our DFS replication suddendly stopped working sometime around midnight local time. At least this is what our second domain controller is reporting. Event log is flooded with event id 5002 from DFSR. It is unclear what caused this sudden problem
and even worse, how to solve it. First thing I tried was to perform propagation tests. According to propagation report none of them was successful. Creating an integrity report brought me to another problem: It fails with two errors. First it is unable to
connect to the other DC. Second it is unable to access local WMI repository. This is true for both machines.
First I tried to find information on possible problems with WMI. WMIdiag provided a lot of information. However, opinions I found on the net largely disagree whether output from WMIdiag is useful or not. Yet I tried to re-compile .mof files and rebuild the
repository. So far, nothing changed. This is my output from WMIdiag:

34779 13:02:46 (0) ** => This error is typically a WMI error. This WMI error is due to:
    34780 13:02:46 (0) ** - a missing WMI class definition or object.
34781 13:02:46 (0) ** (See any GET, ENUMERATION, EXECQUERY and GET VALUE operation failures).
34782 13:02:46 (0) ** You can correct the missing class definitions by:
    34783 13:02:46 (0) ** - Manually recompiling the MOF file(s) with the 'MOFCOMP <FileName.MOF>' command.
34784 13:02:46 (0) ** Note: You can build a list of classes in relation with their WMI provider and MOF file with WMIDiag.
34785 13:02:46 (0) ** (This list can be built on a similar and working WMI Windows installation)
34786 13:02:46 (0) ** The following command line must be used:
    34787 13:02:46 (0) ** i.e. 'WMIDiag CorrelateClassAndProvider'
34788 13:02:46 (0) ** Note: When a WMI performance class is missing, you can manually resynchronize performance counters
34789 13:02:46 (0) ** with WMI by starting the ADAP process.
    34790 13:02:46 (0) ** - a WMI repository corruption.
34791 13:02:46 (0) ** In such a case, you must rerun WMIDiag with 'WriteInRepository' parameter
34792 13:02:46 (0) ** to validate the WMI repository operations.
34793 13:02:46 (0) ** Note: ENSURE you are an administrator with FULL access to WMI EVERY namespaces of the computer before
34794 13:02:46 (0) ** executing the WriteInRepository command. To write temporary data from the Root namespace, use:
    34795 13:02:46 (0) ** i.e. 'WMIDiag WriteInRepository=Root'
34796 13:02:46 (0) ** - If the WriteInRepository command fails, while being an Administrator with ALL accesses to ALL namespaces
34797 13:02:46 (0) ** the WMI repository must be reconstructed.
34798 13:02:46 (0) ** Note: The WMI repository reconstruction requires to locate all MOF files needed to rebuild the repository,
34799 13:02:46 (0) ** otherwise some applications may fail after the reconstruction.
34800 13:02:46 (0) ** This can be achieved with the following command:
    34801 13:02:46 (0) ** i.e. 'WMIDiag ShowMOFErrors'
34802 13:02:46 (0) ** Note: The repository reconstruction must be a LAST RESORT solution and ONLY after executing
    34803 13:02:46 (0) ** ALL fixes previously mentioned.

There are a lot of error in the report and I don't know, whether they are relevant or how to solve them. To my current knowledge, I need to solve at least some of them so that I can access the local WMI repository again and get replication back working.
But after hours of research I am stuck. Any hints are greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Oliver

I don't know why, but soon after posting this, I found a solution to the problem. The WMI part was solved in this thread:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/953be9ef-e9e3-4885-a5c4-47fc475ba562/dfs-is-not-working-anymore?forum=winserverfiles
    The relevant portion is this:
Open a CMD prompt in %windir%\system32\wbem
    mofcomp dfsrprovs.mof
    net stop winmgmt
    net start winmgmt
    net start iphlpsvc
    net stop dfsr
    net start dfsr
I don't know why recompiling of all mof did not solve the problem, but the solution above did. Restarting the DCs solved the communication issue. I don't know why the primary DC forgot about the WMI DFS provider or why communication failed. However, it is
    working again, it seems.

    Hi Abdelhediamir,
Is the mobile data connection (with your provider) up and running? Are you able to browse the web using the phone's browser? If no, this is most likely the reason why the issue is happening. Kindly coordinate with your Network Provider to get the correct Internet/APN settings via SMS. Save it on the phone so it will be configured.

  • SMS Relay on MacBook Pro - Verification Code won't pop up.

    Howdy!
Got everything updated to 8.1 and to Yosemite.  Have a 4s, MacBook Pro and an iPad mini.  Working on setting up the SMS relay for my wife. (These are all her devices).  iPad fired up right away, no issues.  Verification code came up, and voila!  messages on both iPhone and iPad.  Well and good.  Then comes the MacBook.  Not so lucky there.  I've been working on it for about 2 hours now, and I'm coming to the community here to assist.
This is what i've done so far, after reading other community questions and following instructions:
    1) Verified that iCloud address is the same on all devices.
    2) Switched "send new messages from:" to the iCloud email.  No Dice - Switched back to Phone number.
    3) Signed out of iCloud on all devices, sign back in, and wait 15 minutes.  Also No Dice. (Again, iPad fired up right away).
    4) Turned Message forwarding on and off on iPhone about 6 times. Still No dice.
    5) Verified that all are on the same Wifi network.
On trying all of these things, I still can't get the verification code to pop up on the MacBook.  I'd appreciate any assistance/ideas/suggestions that y'all could offer.
    Thanks in advance!
