Hey Garth,
I figured that ! Every site has a service called " SMS_Site _ Component and it was interacting locally , hence whenever i restarted the Primaries , CAS got the Signal from Primaries and it started to degrade itself.
2. Another time Link goes to degrade state once  table replication completes
, Please find the attached components status :
Hope it helps !
Cheers

  • Osx mavericks shutdowns by itself

Running latest OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 on MBP Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013.
Few days ago computer started to complete shutdown itself when I close lid for few hours. When I close it for some minutes, it works just fine (like it was before). When I keep it closed overnight or for 5+ hours, computer shutdowns. I see blank login and all programs are closed. And windows of opened programs are not opened (as when I press Reboot), only Finder.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Performance degradation. Need advice on starting all over again.

I have never formatted my drive or reinstalled my OS X like I used to do with XP during the windows days. Now there is some performance degradation and opening of applications like Safari, iPhoto and others is really slow. I maintain Time Machine backups of my full Snow Leopard partition. What should I do? Format the HD, re install SL, or simply restore from TM or reinstall and then restore...?
I dont really want to carry my windows attitude to mac, of reformatting, reinstalling and then starting all apps from scratch. I wanna leverage out of my TM backup. Please advice.

Those steps, repair permissions? only checks the installed application receipts -- worthless.
Disk Utility doesn't check for bad blocks, and Apple First Aid misses and doesn't fix directory problems that are picked up by 3rd party tools like Disk Warrior.
The hatter's comments do not represent a consensus of opinion about this & are at least partially misleading.
Permissions repairs are indeed limited to comparing receipt info to actual permissions settings, but that is hardly worthless. It is well documented that mis-set permissions will cause a number of problems & resetting them to receipts values is an effective cure for those specific problems. Obviously, that won't cure problems with other causes, but since there is no magic cure-all it would be foolish to expect it to behave like one.
Regarding Disk Utility, it is true that it can't repair certain problems that some 3rd party utilities can; however, it is very effective at identifying file system problems, including those for some file systems the 3rd party apps do not support. It is also the most conservative disk utility available, designed not to attempt any repair that could result in loss of data. This is one reason it isn't as powerful as the 3rd party ones -- it is best to use it first if you suspect you have file system problems & use the more powerful ones only when necessary.
To be fair, Disk Warrior includes a directory optimization function that Disk Utility doesn't. However, an "unoptimized" directory isn't a problem in & of itself, & it is debatable how much real world benefit there is to optimizing the directory, at least with the current OS & modern high performance drives. I used to see noticeable improvements by periodically using Disk Warrior with OS 9 & the drives of that era, but these days my Macs & Snow Leopard seem to do just fine without it.
Basically, it is simple: use the tool that best does what you need to do. There is no benefit from using a sledge hammer when a tack hammer will do; in fact, the sledge hammer may do more harm than good, or just wear you out for no good reason. Also consider the wisdom of the old saying that to a hammer everything looks like a nail. Sometimes, you don't need a tool at all, just the wisdom to know that you don't.
Regarding bad sectors, every drive has them. That is not a concern by itself but the drive suddenly developing new ones is a sure sign of serious problems. Drives keep track of this themselves. Utilities provide a way to query the drives about this & may provide early warning of impending failure, but since the drive is providing the info this is not 100% reliable. For this reason, whether you use one or not, it is extremely important to backup your important data to other devices regularly & often.

  • Group degradation in perceived performance

    Hi there,
We recently upgraded to SDK 4.5.1 and noticed that our application took a hit in perceived responsiveness in the process. After digging around a bit I ran into a change in the Group class that is responsible for this degradation, the change itself is in bold:
        override public function set scrollRect(value:Rectangle):void    {        // Work-around for Flash Player bug: if GraphicElements share        // the Group's Display Object and cacheAsBitmap is true, the        // scrollRect won't function correctly.         var previous:Boolean = canShareDisplayObject;        super.scrollRect = value;         if (numGraphicElements > 0 && previous != canShareDisplayObject)            invalidateDisplayObjectOrdering();          if (mouseEnabledWhereTransparent && hasMouseListeners)        {                    // Re-render our mouse event fill if necessary.            redrawRequested = true;            super.$invalidateDisplayList();        }    }
Below please find a small application that illustrates this problem. Note that I have monkey patched Group in the default package so that it is possible to compile with and without the code above. I find that a large screen and Chrome help showcase the problem.
The part that I am not getting is what was the code in bold trying to fix in the first place?
    Thanks!!
    ~ Miguel

  • RAID degraded - RedundancyScrub error message

    Hi all,
Even though my problem is not on an X-Serve box but on a MacPro (2008), I run OSX Server 10.5.4 and have not found anything in the MacPro or Server OS forums, hence my post here in the hope of an experienced admin being able to help here.
After having a new RAID 5 setup on 4x500GB Seagate SATA drives and Apple's RAID card running fine for over 2 months, I ran the 10.5.4 update (after much deliberation on the pro's and con's) and promptly had this issue. Only found out a few days after running the update though, and after going through all logs, I could pin the problem to exactly the time of immediately after the OS update. I have searched high and low to find anything in the RAID and OS Server forums, but haven't found anything there to resolve this error message with or without cli:
The "RedundancyScrub" command could not be executed. (The request failed because a volume service is currently running)
Yes, have tried to verify RAID, only to get an error popup when trying to verify...
Could not verify the RAID set "RS1". there was a problem communicating with the device.
Since it is basically still running ok, but degraded, I need to do something, even if it means a wipe and re-install of the entire Server OS and RAID setup. I have had a few issues with Leopard anyway, and was thinking of doing a final clean install when .5 update is out that may tidy up a few more issues. But, any help in the meantime from an experienced RAID or X-Serve admin would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

I had to go on to Apple's list to find this, sorry about the length...it fixed my problem
A client of mine accidentally removed a drive from his RAID-5
array on an Intel XServe. He reinserted the drive and all three 1
TB drives show up as good, but the set is showing as degraded.
The log shows Degraded RAID Set R0-1 No Spare Available for
    Rebuild.
When I attempt to run a verify, it says "Could not verify the
RAIDset R0-1, There was a problem communicating with the device."
After that the log shows "The redundancy Scrub command could not
be executed. The request failed because a volume service is
    currently running."
Googling this brings up a similar problem that two other people
are having, but no one has a solution. Have any of you run into
    this?
    Hi, Mike,
If you just replaced Apple Drive modules, the new one still will
not be as spare drive for your raid set. You have to tell RAID
    card a spare drive came.
You can do for this both CLI and GUI.
    CLI:
    - - use 'raidutil' command.
$ sudo raidutil modify drive --addglobalspare -d <DriveBayNumber>.
    For more information, see raidutil(8).
    GUI:
    - - Launch /Applications/Utilities/RAID Utility.app
Select 'Make Spare...' from menu 'RAID' after you selected the
    new drive.
    Cheers,
    - -takanori
I think you misunderstand what happened, perhaps I should have been
    more specific. T
he person took a drive out of a working RAID-5 while it was
running. Then he replaced it. He pulled the drive from the wrong
XServe in a rack, intending to pull a bad drive from a different
    server.
Now we are unable to clear the "Degraded" message that it has. My
assumption would be that it should have simply gone into a degraded
state and then rebuilt itself automatically.
Perhaps the drive should be pulled again and formatted, and then
inserted and added as a spare?
    Hi, Mike,
    Ok. I got your condition.
I had same situation couple weeks ago. I've also thought when drive
module of raid set set back, Apple RAID Card would start rebuilding
immediately . But it would not. So you have to mark spare to the
drive module which was pulled out accidentally and set back same bay
of xserve. You don't have to format it again. You can mark it spare
    drive right way.
In my case, Apple RAID Card said it was a part of another raid set
when I set the drive module back after my staff pulled it out
carelessly. So Apple RAID Card never start rebuilding using with a
part of raid set. I think it is good as fool-safe mechanism.
The way of marking spare is as same as what I wrote above. If you
decide to use CLI, you may have to use another subcommand of
raidutil before making it spare. I repaired my raid set of xserve
with RAID Utility.app just select 'Make Spare...' from menu 'RAID'.
    Careful and cheers,
    - -takanori
Thank you Takanori, that was the thing to do. The RAID is rebuilding
    now.

  • A mystery of PDF quality degradation in indd

Ok, so this is a strange phenomenon that has occured. I have created an InDesign portfolio, which includes pdfs, jpegs, tiffs, and photoshop files. I made the document for print, exported to pdf, and have some beautiful pdfs that I have used. These files are very large, which will not work for sending emailed versions, so I went back into the Indd file and exported at a smaller setting. I noticed that the images in the new exported pdf were still good quality, but all the files that were placed pdfs looked smeared, aka garbage. After fiddling with the settings, I deduced that the placed files themselves in the indd doc were of degraded quality. (*note not the original files used to placed that are in a folder on my comp). When I attempted to change the view settings to high quality, nothing changed. The files seemed to be stuck in a blurry mode. I went through and re-placed all the pdf files, which seemed to fix the problem. I am not sure how this could have happened, since all the other placed files were still of good quality. Only the pdfs turned "bad" and this happened after about a month. A month ago, the same exact indd files, without any changes, could be changed to high quality viewing and they exported correctly. How could these "bad" pdfs export well, and then a month later not export well and need to be replaced into the indd doc? This really baffles my mind, and I wonder if anyone else has experienced this or has any clue as to what is going on. I am using indd CS 5.5 on a MacBook Pro 2011 with Lion.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately there is not much to go on here. Could be the links were modified or missing -- could you have moved the originals?-- or it might corruption in either your prefs, see Replace Your Preferences or in the file itself, see Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Performance degrading CPU utilization 100%

    Hello,
    RHEL 4
    Oracle 10.2.0.4
Attached to a DAS (partition is 91% full) RAID 5
Over the past few weeks my production database performance has majorly degraded. I have not made any application, OS, or database changes (I was on vacation!). I have started troubleshooting, but need some more tips as to what else I can check.
My users run a query against the database, and for a table with only 40,000 rows, it will take about 2 minutes before the results return. For a table with 12 million records, it takes about 10 minutes or more for the query to complete. If I run a script that counts/displays a total record count for each table in the database as well as a total count of all records in the database (~15,000,000 records total), the script either takes about 45 minutes to complete or sometimes it just never completes. The Linux partition on my DAS is currently 91% full. I do not have Flashback or auditing enabled.
These are some things I tried/observed:
I shut down all applications/servers/connections to the database and then restarted the database. After starting the database, I monitored the DAS interface, and the CPU utilization spiked to 100% and never goes down, even with no users/application trying to connect to the database. The alert.log file contains these errors:
ORA-00603: ORACLE server session terminated by fatal error
ORA-00600: internal error code arguments: [ttcdrv-recursivecall]
    ORA-03135: connection lost contact
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.SYNCRN", line 1
The database still starts, but the performance is bad. From the error above and after checking performance in EM, I see there are a lot of sync index jobs running by each of the schemas and the db sequential file read is high. There is a job to resync the indexes every 5 minutes. I am going to try disabling these jobs tihs afternoon to see what happens with the CPU utilization. If it helps, I will try adjusting the job from running every 5 minutes to something like every 30 minutes. Is there a way to defrag the CONTEXT indexes? REBUILD?
I'm not sure if I am running down the right path or not. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what I can check? My SGA_TARGET is currently set to 880M and the SGA_MAX_SIZE is 2032M. Would it also help for me to increase the SGA_TARGET to the SGA_MAX_SIZE; thus increasing the amount of space allocated to the buffer cache? I have ASMM enabled and currently this is what is allocated:
    Shared Pool = 18.2%
    Buffer Cache = 61.8%
    Large Pool = 16.4%
    Java Pool = 1.8%
    Other = 1.8%
I also ran ADDM and these were the results of my Performance Analysis:
34.7% The throughput of the I/O subsystem was significantly lower than expected (when I clicked on this it said to either implement ASM or stripe using SAME methodology...we are already using RAID5)
31% SQL statements consuming significant database time were found (I cannot make application code changes, and my database consists entirely of INSERT statements...there are never any deletes or updates. I see that the updates that are being made were by the index resyncing job to the various DR$ tables)
18% Individual database segments responsible for significant user I/O wait were found
15.9% Individual SQL statements responsible for significant user I/O wait were found
8.4% PL/SQL execution consumed significant database time
I also recently ran a SHRINK on all possible tablespace as recommended in EM, but that did not seem to help either.
Please let me know if I can provide any other pertinent information to solve the poor I/O problem. I am leaning toward thinking it has to do with the index sync job stepping on itself...the job cannot complete in 5 minutes before it tries to kick off again...but I could be completely wrong! What else can I check to figure out why I have 100% CPU utilization, with no users/applications connected? Thank you!

    Tables/Indexes last analyzed today.
I figured out that it was the Oracle Text indexes synching to frequently that was causing the problem. I disabled all the jobs that kicked off those indexes and my CPU utilization dropped to almost 0%. I will work on tuning the interval/re-enabling the indexes for my dynamic datasources.
    Thank you for everyone's suggestions!

  • JDBC, SQL*Net wait interface, performance degradation on 10g vs. 9i

    Hi All,
I came across performance issue that I think results from mis-configuration of something between Oracle and JDBC. The logic of my system executes 12 threads in java. Each thread performs simple 'select a,b,c...f from table_xyz' on different tables. (so I have 12 different tables with cardinality from 3 to 48 millions and one working thread per table).
In each thread I'm creating result set that is explicitly marked as forward_only, transaction is set read only, fetch size is set to 100000 records. Java logic processes records in standard while(rs.next()) {...} loop.
I'm experiencing performance degradation between execution on Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g of the same java code, on the same machine, on the same data. The difference is enormous, 9i execution takes 26 hours while 10g execution takes 39 hours.
I have collected statspack for 9i and awr report for 10g. Below I've enclosed top wait events for 9i and 10g

I put full blame for the slowdown on SQL*Net message to client wait event. All I could find about this event is that it is a network related problem. I assume it would be true if database and client were on different machines.. However in my case they are on them very same machine.
I'd be very very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, i.e. give a hint what statistics should I analyze further? what might cause this event to appear? why probable cause (that is said be outside db) affects only 10g instance?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rafi.

    Hi Steven,
Thanks for the input. It's a fact that I did not gather statistics on my tables. My understanding is that statistics are useful for queries more complex than simple select * from table_xxx. In my case tables don't have indexes. There's no filtering condition as well. Full table scan is what I actually want as all software logic is inside the java code.
    Explain plans are as follows:

Thanks for pointing me difference in table scans. I infer that 9i is doing single-block full table scan (db file sequential read) while 10g is using multi-block full table scan (db file scattered read).
I now have theory that 9i is faster because sequential reads use continuous buffer space while scattered reads use discontinuous buffer space. Since I'm accessing data 'row by row' in jdbc 10g might have an overhead in providing data from discontinuous buffer space. This overhead shows itself as SQL*Net message to client wait. Is that making any sense?
Is there any way I could force 10g (i.e. with hint) to use sequential reads instead of scattered reads for full table scan?
I'll experiment with FTS tuning in 10g by enabling automatic multi-block reads tuning (i.e. db_file_multiblock_read_count=0 instead of 32 as it is now). I'll also check if response time improves after statistics are gathered.
Please advice if you have any other ideas.
    Thanks & regards,
    Rafi.

  • Degraded RAID

We have an earlier-generation Xserve RAID, set up to RAID 5, where a drive has failed, and therefore the status is Degraded. The failed drive in question was a 250Gb Hitachi, which seem to be no longer available. Instead I have ordered a 250 Gb WD Caviar Blue PATA.
Should it be as easy as pulling out the dead drive, popping in the new drive and putting it back in position in the RAID? Will the RAID repair itself, including formatting the new drive (assuming the WD is good)?

    Hi Tod,
Sorry to reply to a different post, i'm unsure how to privately email, but we are having a RAID issue it hought you might be able to help with.
We currently have an xServe Raid in RAID 50 config with 14 drives (7 each side). One drive went down and we took it out and ordered the part (now running 7 on left and 6 on right) and the RAID data was fine. While trying to configure another RAID for temp usage, I accidentally (here's where everyone shurgs) reformatted the original RAID with all our data (non destructively, not writing anything over it) but of course, i lost the original volume which created the single RAID from across the 14 discs. Help. Do you know of any tools that can find the old volume and restore it for us (no, we hadn't backed up the RAID volume). Right now we're using Virtual Lab to try and restore. But any ideas or help would be MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Does Erase Free Space Degrade Hard Drive?

I've noticed with my macbook that erasing free space takes bloody ages, 2 hours for 1 pass, 18 for 7 pass, 3 days for 35 pass.
This seems like an awful long time to have your laptop sitting on and open let alone your disc spinning and writing. Does this process degrade, slow down or have any seriously harmful side-effects to your hard drive?

My question is simply, 3 days of nonstop writing to zero out free space from insecure trash empties (some people might have important goverment docs, I don't know) seems like long enough to burn out your drive in one single process, no?
No, not unless the drive is already perilously close to failure when you begin the process.
And with their awkward sleep with lid closed standard feature, you have to leave the laptop sitting open and running... 3 days, surely that'll cause some problems?
Are you concerned that running the computer with its display open is hazardous to its health? Nothing could be farther from the truth. It cools itself more efficiently with the display open than with the display closed. Apart from that, having the lid open or closed makes no difference at all.
Out of curiosity, what do you consider "awkward" about having the computer go to sleep when you close the display?
I agree with Michael that if one were to do a 35-pass erase of free space every week, or even every month, it would become a significant factor in the longevity of the drive. But doing it a small handful of times over the life of the drive — say perhaps once a year — would account for only an insignificant portion of the drive's total use/operation.

  • Degraded Array - How to fix?

I'm doing some general mainatnace on my main FCP machine, and I was going to run the 'Background Array Conditioning' on my second array (in a RAID 50) on my Xserve RAID, but I got this error: "Cannot condition array because it is offline or degraded."
About 3 months ago, I had a drive go down in this set and I got a replacement, popped it in, and it started rebuilding itself. I've used the RAID every day since then without and real problem, but I'm wondering if maybe this drive didn't get rebuilt correctly?
Will I be able to fix this error message by running the 'Rebuild Parity Data" utility?
Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. I just updated to the latest firmware yesterday and turned off Allow Host Cache Flushing and the RAID seems snappier than before, and if I can just get this error message cleared out I'll be all set.
    Thanks for your help-

    Follow up:
I think this is a RAID Admin bug: When I select the RAID set 2 with the Radio button and click Confirm in step 3 I get a warning that the set is offliine or degraded. When I select it by clicking on the image of the RAID set, I get a message saying I may condition the set.
In fact, I conditioned the RAID last night successfully and both sets are Running according to Disk Utility.

    select data.RUN_YR_MO
    , data.SERVICER_NAME
    , data.GSE_NONGSE
    , data.KNOWN_NOTKNOWN_VACANT
    , data.KNOWN_NOTKNOWN_MODDATA
    , data.WATERFALL_EXCLUSION
    , Sum(data.LOAN_COUNT) AS SumOfLOAN_COUNT,
    Sum(data.UPB) AS SumOfUPB
    from
    (select data.acct_nbr,data.HERITAGE
    , data.SYST,max(data.idnum) MaxOfIDNum
    from
    (SELECT a.ACCT_NBR
    , a.SumOfLOAN_COUNT
    , data.ACCT_NBR, data.HERITAGE
    , data.SYST
    , data.IDNum
    FROM
    (SELECT ACCT_NBR
    ,HERITAGE
         ,SYST
         , Sum(LOAN_COUNT) AS SumOfLOAN_COUNT
    FROM data
    GROUP BY ACCT_NBR,
         HERITAGE,
         SYST
    HAVING (((Sum(LOAN_COUNT))>1)) ) a,data
    where
    (a.ACCT_NBR = data.ACCT_NBR)
    AND (a.HERITAGE = data.HERITAGE)
    AND (a.SYST = data.SYST))
    group by
    data.acct_nbr,data.HERITAGE
    , data.SYST)b RIGHT JOIN data
    ON b.MaxOfIDNum = data.IDNum
    WHERE (((b.MaxOfIDNum) Is Null))
    GROUP BY data.RUN_YR_MO
    , data.SERVICER_NAME
    , data.GSE_NONGSE
    , data.KNOWN_NOTKNOWN_VACANT
    , data.KNOWN_NOTKNOWN_MODDATA
    , data.WATERFALL_EXCLUSION;
this looks performance degrading ... is there an alternate?
    Thanks

    Anurag,
I don't think "keep (DENSE_RANK first order by IDNUM desc)" is needed in your query. "max(IDNum) over (partition by ACCT_NBR,HERITAGE,SYST) max_id_num" itself would do.
FIRST/LAST are meaningful only when the column you are selecting from with MAX is different from the ORDER BY column in the KEEP clause.
    Here is an example:
    LPALANI@l11gr2>select e.*,
2  max(hiredate) keep (dense_rank first order by hiredate desc) over (partition by deptno) max_hire_date,
      3  max(hiredate) over (partition by deptno) max_hire_date1

  • Will more number of waiting threads in thread pool degrade performance?

    Hi,
I use thread pool and set the maximum number of threads to execute. My problem is, the thread pool initiates the number of threads and these threads wait until they get a work. Will this degrade the performance (The threads do I/O operations) ??

Threads waiting for work will not degrade performance. If your work involves those threads waiting for I/O then that in itself will not degrade performance either (as long as they block and don't poll of course).
All live threads consume resources however so if you are short on threads or memory then don't create too many of them.
Pre-starting a large number of threads in a pool can cause a startup delay of course. Generally you should let the pool create threads as needed until it gets to the core pool size.

  • Image is degrading

When I create a slide show the image degrades. If I open it regular it is fine as soon as I put it in a slide show it gets jagged edges and looks bad.
    Thank you

    Stephen,
You did not identify the megapixel dimensions on the photo file itself - but I will suspect that it is a higher resolution image.
1- there is an Adobe techdoc warning you that the Full Screen Preview in v3 is not good quality
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331149.html
2- if it is not just the Preview problem
then I suggest that (when you are not in the Slide show Creation process) you pick 1 photo file that is especially bad in the slide show, make a copy of it (File > Duplicate in the Organizer), then with the Editor use Image > Resize to downsize it to about 800x600 pixel resolution. Does this downsized photo look OK? Then add that downsized photo to your slide show right next to the existing file of the same photo. Now how do they compare?
This process may help to analyze whether it is the process of downsizing within the slide show creation that is causing your problem - or whether it is some other factor. Some people like the downsizing done within the Elements Editor better.
3- If point 2 does not help, the next suggestion is looking at the software installed supporting your screen viewing.
The slide show creation process does use different software functions than the rest of PSE 3. To gather more info - suggest that you do Start > Run and type in dxdiag in the box. When DXDIAG runs and gives you info, post what version of DirectX your system has installated.
Another factor is the software driver installed for the video card in your PC. Last year when I installed PSE 3, I needed to update the driver for my video card to a newer version in order to improve the images in the slide show.

  • Rendering causes Livetype assets to degrade

When I import an .ipr file into FCP, it's got an orange bar, but still plays back in real time and looks perfect. When I render it, it gets jagged and looks horrible. I tried exporting a Quicktime file from Livetype and importing that into FCP. Exact same situation. Why would rendering degrade the image?

This did NOT solve the problem, but thanks.
From what I've been reading in myriad other posts is that the DV codec itself is simply of less quality than the animation codec that Livetype created the graphic in, so when you lay down the Livetype over your video, it looks good at first because it's referencing the orignal file, but when you render it (assuming of course that you're working on a DV timeline) FCP adds DV compression to the graphic and the resulting jaggies are a result of that.
Firstly, does that make sense to you guys? It seems to to me.
Secondly, if you're supposed to be able to "round trip" between these programs and, I can only assume, a vast number of FCP users are working with DV, why would this be set up as such? That is to say why wouldn't Livetype let you create in DV so you can see what you're working with?
I don't know what to do. Is it possible to get Livetype to look good in FCP DV?
