  • Setting up Airport Express for use in hotel room

How can I set up AE so that I can just plug it in to an ethernet cable in a hotel room? I want to primarily use it as a wifi connection with my iPhone, so I would prefer to not have to adjust settings. Is this possible?

I'm going overseas for a week, have some time on my hands so will give it a go.
Well, the pdf guide that came with the Airport Express says you can. It's a matter of following the setup wizard....
There's no step by step screen shots, so you can only go by Apple's word that this does actually happen.
    Good luck.

  • HOW TO SET UP 2 AIRPORT EXPRESS AT HOTEL ROOM

    Hello,
I know this subject probably have been talk alot on this formum but I cant find the tread.
My question is how to you set up a private network in hotel room with 2 airport express when the hotel only offers wireless in room and not a ethernet connection.
I know that one airport express needs to be setup to join the hotel internet then connect the second airport express by way of cable to setup your own private network so that your iphone and ipad can connect without being charge a fee for the extra items.

Yes by configuring the AE with Airport Utility you can set a network password.

  • Is it possible for Express to broadcast signal in hotel room to iPad?

    Hello:
I would like to know if it is possible to configure an Airport Express so that it is connected to an ethernet port in a hotel room and have the express broadcast a wireless signal to my iPad?
    This will be my configuration:
    1. One airport express.
    2. One iPad. I will not have a laptop at my disposal.
    Here are my concerns:
    1. I currently don't own an Airport Express, so I am not certain what kind of settings will need to be changed from default.
    2. So when I plug the Express in the hotel room, will it be plug and play (meaning will express obtain ip address from hotel server and broadcast the wireless so my iPad will have Internet access)?
    3. Will I still need to run the Airport Utility at the hotel?
    4. Is there an Airport Utility app available for the iPad? If not, is it possible to reach the Airport Express setting via the Safari Browser (similar to many routers)?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

    Yes, that is possible.
    1. I currently don't own an Airport Express, so I am not certain what kind of settings will need to be changed from default.
Most hotels, that provide an in-room Ethernet port for Internet access typically require that you use a web browser to reach the hotel's Internet service login page. This service provided by the hotel's Internet router ... and, in somewhat a similar manner, would be the same as a home setup where you used a wired router.
At home, you would connect the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to that wired router via an Ethernet cable. In turn, the AX would be configured to broadcast a wireless network. The basic AX configuration would be the same in both cases.
    2. So when I plug the Express in the hotel room, will it be plug and play (meaning will express obtain ip address from hotel server and broadcast the wireless so my iPad will have Internet access)?
In the majority of situations ... yes.
    3. Will I still need to run the Airport Utility at the hotel?
Only in those situations where the hotel's Internet access method is different would you need to use the AirPort Utility to reconfigure the AX.
    4. Is there an Airport Utility app available for the iPad?
Sorry, not that I'm aware of ... at least, not yet.
If not, is it possible to reach the Airport Express setting via the Safari Browser (similar to many routers)?
Unfortunately, no. Access to administer the AX requires the AirPort Utility. There is no browser-based access for this.

  • How can I transfer video taken with my iPhone to my iPad WITHOUT using a computer or iTunes? I'm going to Europe for a month and want to use my iPhone to take pics and video, then come back to the hotel room and use my iPad to edit/store each evening.

How can I transfer video taken with my iPhone to my iPad WITHOUT using a computer or iTunes? I'm going to Europe for a month and want to use my iPhone to take pics and video, then come back to the hotel room and use my iPad to edit/store each evening. I don't want to use my iPad to take the video...too large/bulky. And I WON'T have a computer with me...I purchased the iPad to take with me so I could use the RDC to my home computer and avoid taking my computer at all. Is this possible?

here is a cheaper solution than camera kit and a lot easier if you have WIFI available.
I use the PhotoSync APP (I think its a $1.99) will transfer videos and photos over WIFI to any other IOS device or even PC/MAC. Great app since I like doing video and photos on my IPHONE and transfer to IPAD2 without synching through computer or doing cloud based storage.
You can even send photos/videos from your MAC/PC to your IOS devices that way too. Makes it so much easier.

  • I want to use Airport Express in my hotel room using the wired internet connection, but I don't carry a computer, just my iPad.  Is that possible?

I want to use AirPort Express when I am traveling.  I would like to use a wired internet connection in a hotel room to create a wireless connection.  However, I do not normally carry my laptop, just my iPad.  Is it possible to do this?

You will have to pre-configure the Express using AirPort Utility on your computer before you leave on the trip. The Express will store and remember the settings.
You might want to check with the hotel in advance to make sure that they have Ethernet ports available. Most hotels have switched to wireless and the others are not far behind.

  • Can I use Airport Express with iPhone in my hotel room?

Is there a way to set up an Airport Express in my hotel room when I travel, so that the provided High Speed internet cable in the room can be plugged into my Airport Express, giving me a wireless internet connection for the iPhone? I use Airport Express often this way with my MacBook, so I don't have to be tethered to the cable.

I did this about a month ago when I was in England. I just had the Airport Express with me, and had not done any configurations. I plugged it in and had the iPhone find it. It worked in some hotels, and didn't at others. When it worked it was great. I assume with some of the hotels where it didn't work, that I needed to configure it but since I didn't have my laptop I didn't have any way to configure it. Is there any kind of "universal" or "automatic" configuration you can set it up with?

  • Editing in hotel room, display monitor crash

    Hello:
    Desperate!
Of course I am on deadline.
Using a Mac G5 with Apple Cinema Display. On location, editing with Final Cut in a hotel room. When I first turned on the computer all was good. When I clicked on a Final Cut video I got an error message saying something about Quartz Extreme being missing. I went to system preferences clicked on Detect Displays" the aspect ratio changed, then all went dark. I spent an hour with tech support trying to reboot in various differnt ways (PRAM, etc). No joy. Took it to the Genius Bar in Phoenix and it started and worked first time. Everything just fine. Got it back to the hotel and same problem. I get the initial Apple logo start up screen.... then it goes blue... then black and dies. A blue light flashes on an off on the monitor display. HELP!!!!! PLEASE. ANYONE!!!!
Could it be the AC power in the hotel is not supplying enough drawer?
Good karma to all who respond.
    Thanks
    Adrian

Then you have to find what is different between here and there.

Very possible, inadequate juice could be havoc with the supply for the display. run an extension out the door or into the bathroom-usually a different circuit but that won't help you if the supply to the floor or the hotel is wonky. Cart it all down to the lobby and make a mess.
Fallback, to heck the cinema, go buy a little monitor.
Fallback: get on the phone and start looking for a production chop that will kindly let you move your rig to their place for a day or two. Be sweet. Most of us are good sports. Even our competitors.

  • Let me know if it works connecting in hotel room

Let me know if it works connecting in hotel room

I understand. But, even if the hotel has an Ethernet port in the room, some hotel networks will not allow another router (Apple or any other brand) to connect to the network.
It is not possible to say in advance whether an AirPort....or any other router...will work on a hotel Ethernet network. If you call the hotel to ask them, in most cases they will have no idea of what you are asking....since they think guests connect their computer to the Ethernet port, not a router.
I have traveled full time for 8 years with an AirPort, and find that it will work about 75-80% of the time when the hotel has an Ethernet port in the room. If I have stayed at the same hotel previously, then I already know whether it will work or not, so whenever possible, I stay at hotels where I know it will work.

  • Interested in learning / hotel rooms

I am interested in learning how to make hotel rooms very inviting and look incredible.  There is a local photographer that chages 1g per shot to a local hotel. They look incredible.  I know he take a lot of photos through the day evening and at sunset and blends them later.  Can anyone direct me to a course or how I can learn how to do the same thing?
    I am using CS5.5 Photoshop.
thanks in advance (would apply to any interior - not just hotels)

A good friend of mine is a home/architecture photographer.  Her shots look inviting, complimentary, they make rooms look open and airy, and the light just feels right.  All that and she manages to avoids unnatural appearance even with wide stitches.  Attractive stuff like this:
My hat's off to her; I know behind the scenes how much effort she puts into working out logistics, hauling lighting equipment, setting up and executing the shots, then processing the images in the digital darkroom.  Not only does it take talent and training, but good prep, execution, and practice as well.  The results are clearly worth the effort.
Best of luck!  I hope you find your footing and it becomes rewarding for you.

  • Reserving a room in training and events management

I have a problem when I try to reserve rooms. When I create a new course with resources and I have selected the location, I still get the list that has all the rooms. Is there a way to limit the rooms to the once associated with the location? Also is there any way to display the building name along with the room name when we reserve the room at the time of creating a course?

UTD error!!! I hadn't created all the relationships with the location hence the issue. After making all the correct relationships with the location, the functionality is working as anticipated.

You can change a password for an Apple ID. However, now whoever finds the iPod will know his email address and I assume that the email address is his Apple ID.
    Apple ID: Changing your password
According to the terms of the iTunes Store, you have to be 13 in order to have an Apple ID.

  • Internet Sharing WiFi to WiFi in a hotel room?

I travel a lot.  Right now, I'm in NYC helping manage hurricane recovery and will be here in a Marriott hotel for 2 months before I go home.  Sick of paying $17.95 for a movie from their on-demand system, I got the brilliant idea of buying an Apple TV and plugging it into the HDMI ports that the hotel makes available for external devices so they can play on the hotel room's television.  Of course, I didn't realize until I was almost back to the hotel after picking it up at the Apple Store that I'll have major internet connection issues with the Apple TV in the hotel.
The reason...most hotels use a web-based interface for entering a username/password or room number to add to your bill when you connect to the Internet for the first time.  They don't use normal WPA encryption keys/passwords, etc.  In other words, the network is open, but you can't connect until you go through a Web-based login process.  Works fine on a computer...but Apple TV, of course, has no ability to do web-based logins.
I figured I could get around this by sharing the Internet connection from my MacBook Pro which always on the road with me.  I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on it.
Went into System Preferences > Sharing, and turned on Internet Sharing.  Under "Share your connection from", I've specified WiFi as that's how I'm getting Internet connectivity to my laptop from the hotel's ISP.  Here's where it gets weird.
Underneath in "To computers using", I have an option for FireWire, Bluetooth PAN, Ethernet, and iPhone USB.  There's NO option for Wi-Fi.  My Apple TV would be connecting to the laptop's Internet connection by WiFi, but for some reason, WiFi is not on this list, and as such, I also don't have the WiFi Options button below, so my laptop never shows up in the list of wireless networks on the Apple TV.
What am I doing wrong?  Why do I not have WiFi as an option here?
    dt

The Apple TV allows you to connect by Wi-Fi or by Ethernet.  The Wi-Fi of course is a manual process because you have to select which SSID/network you want to use.  The Ethernet is supposed to be automatically detected.  When you have an active Ethernet connection going into the ATV via a cat5 cable, it's supposed to recognize it and use that as its connection source no matter what you have selected for Wi-Fi.
There is also a "Configure TCP/IP" option in the ATV settings that allows you to set TCP Automatically, or Manually.  The latter presents options for IP, Subnet, and Router and DNS addresses.  Currently, I have it set to Automatically.
In my case, it doesn't recognize any active Ethernet connection.  I have a good cable (it's good -- I've used it elsewhere this week without problems) that's connecting the Ethernet port on the back of the ATV with the Ethernet port on the side of my MacBook Pro.  And then in System Settings, under Sharing > Internet, I have specified WiFi as the computer's source connection, and Ethernet for the destination.

  • I travel a lot with work.  Can I plug an Ethernet cable from a hotel room in to this, and then use my IPad or IPhone ?

Is it possible to use Airport Express in hotel rooms ?  Plugging in the hotel cable to AE, then accessing the access page / page where I enter card details if chargeable on my iPad

In most cases, this will work just fine. Connect the Express to the Ethernet port at the hotel and power it up. Log on to your private wireless network, and open your browser. The hotel log in page will appear so that you can agree to terms and pay the fees, etc.
The challenge here, at least in the U.S. is finding hotels that still provide an Ethernet port in the rooms since a majority have already moved to wireless. Ethernet ports are more common if you are traveling internationally.
