SMS via Adress book

Hi
I'v been sending texts via address book no probs. A friend said when you receive a text it should pop up on the computer screen this does not happen for me. However when i receive a call this does show up on the screen. So should it work with texts also?

Not all phones are fully compatible. With my Nokia 6750 I can send SMS from the Mac, and the Nokia will flag an incoming call on the Mac, but I can't receive SMS on the Mac.

I recently picked up the same phone, ie the Sony Eric K800i and have been trying to get the 'send sms message' through the address book. I know this works 'cos i had a previous sony ericsson model and it worked fine but with this unit it doesn't seem to push it through.
Where am i going wrong?....... I've set my device up with the Bluetooth *** and paired it and clicked on the button in the top corner of the address book ........ but to no avail,...... can anyone help.

Problems with sending SMS from adress book

Hi all,
I have a new Kotorola MOTOKRZR K1 here.
The Bluetooth connection with iMac is ok. I can send data to phone and I can receive data from phone, but I can't send SMS from adress book v4.0.5 (487) to the phone.
The bluetooth button in adress book is disabled. I can click on this button, but address book open in this case always a dialog: "Pair with bluetooth device".
When I click on the "pair" button, then I can enter my access code vor the phone.
It is the access code from Bluetooth Assistant program for the phone.
my question is, Is here a user, who can send a SMS with MOTOKRZR K1 from adress book?
With my old Siemens S55 is this no problem.

was anyone? There is here and there posts one the topic but it is unclear to me is there a general solution or just people succesful?
What is weird that apple official list of supported phones has my motorola v535 phone. It is detected correctly by bluetooth assistant, but adress book service is not listed as available. Though apple list says both isinc and adress book services are available for this phone.
Anyone any ideas?

I just got a Motorola E815 and found out that in order to access the phone via Address Book like you said I need Tiger. I've been thinking of upgrading.
I did get my iBook to use the cell phone as a dialup modem over bluetooth, but then found out that Verizon doesn't allow it. (another story altogether. grumble grumble)

Apple script to send SMS via address book.

I've pair my mobile with my Mac and can send sms through address book but can i create a script to do this automactically?

Well, yes and no. Address Book's scripting dictionary knows nothing about SMS, so you can't do it through Address Book. You could conceivably use GUI scripting, but I think that would be a pain. There is a scriptable utilty from SMS MAC which looks if it might do the job - if you decide to try it I would be interested in hearing how you get on.

Adress book - sms service

I´ve just gotten my macbook, and i´m brand new to the whole deliscious mac-things.. I´ve gotten my mac to sync with my sony ericsson W800i, and now i want to send text messages via it from the adress book. How to? I´ve activated the bluetooth-function in both the adress book and on my phone, and clicking the number i want to send to i´ve sent some messages.
But nothing seems to happen, no-one has gotten any of my messages - weird..
Any suggestions? Is there something wrong with the setup of either my mac or my phone?

You may have seen it elsewhere, but this sorted out my problem. I have a K800 and I had exactly the same issue as you - it would appear to working from the Mac (BT showing connected, SMS option enabled in AddressBook), but no SMS messages were sent. Similar symptoms for the dial feature as well.

Using Address Book to send SMS via Bluetooth

Hi all,
I recently upgraded to 10.4.6 (from 10.4.5) to take advantage of the new iSync support for the Nokia N70.
(I had previously been using a modified Metaclasses.plist hack for this and prior to the upgrade to .6, restored the original .plist)
I also followed the advice in Apple article 303419 about removing the phone from iSync.
So, upgrade fine and re paired phone with iSync but now find that I can no longer use Address Book to send SMS message or dial a call to current contact.
This worked fine with the hack!
Any ideas?

I am using OS X10.4.6 via Bluetooth connecting to Nokia N70 also. I have no problem with iSync and file transfer. But I can NOT send and receive SMS from Address book.

Can't transfer my adress book from 10.3.9 to 10.4.5 version

been trying to use some of the answers here but it just doesn't work. I change to a new macBookPro and saved my adress book (3.6MB), InBox and just can't transfer to the new computer (sistem).
The transfer is made, but nothing showsup?
and now I can't send our messages, except for some ?!
I tryed to make a new folder on my desktop and place the mbox on it and rename the folder with the termination .mbox and import the new file, but again nothing happend ...
Thers alot of info. here and I just can't let it go away ...

Your computer meets the minimum system requirements for Tiger. However, the major Operating Systems: Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard must be installed from an install disk, which, as Niel indicated, needs to be purchased. Updates within an OS, from 10.4.4 to 10.4.11 for example, can be installed either via Software Update or downloaded as stand-alone updates form the Apple website and then installed.
If you do not already own the Tiger install disk, you might consider Leopard instead, since your computer meets the technical specifications for Leopard, and the cost of Tiger and Leopard are essentially the same $129 from Apple.
I would suggest that you seriously consider upgrading your RAM. Although the RAM you have will run Tiger, it will run much better by boosting your RAM by installing at least one 1 GB module. Your compuuter will support 2 - 184-pin PC-3200 (400MHz) DDR SDRAM up to 1 GB each. You can upgrade them both or upgrade to 1.5 GB for now.

ICal and Adress Book sync brings back deleted stuff

Hi everyone,
I hope this wasn't posted yet, in any case I couldn't find it, so sorry for any double posts.
I use my iPhone as my primary work device and perform all changes of Calendar and Contact data on it. When I sync it with my desktop Mac (PowerMac G4 that I use as backup device for pretty much everything) all the old contact details and calendar events that I deleted from the iPhone are synced back to it from the desktop Mac. I exclusively sync via iTunes.
So what I want would be a one-way sync from my iPhone to the desktop Mac so iCal and Adress Book there are just as up to date as on the iPhone. Any suggestions?

I am not sure if I will follow your advice, however. While you're probably right and it should be a true sync, what I was trying to say was that in my case (and apparently Berit's as well) it simply isn't.
Which means that apart from the fact that we will probably have to clean out our adress books and calendars again after a reset and sync. I've done that three times already and believe me, it's a major pain. Plus, there is also a chance it won't work afterwards.
I was actually hoping for there to be some workaround solution like a one-way sync. And I'm not happy with Apple's tendency to prevent such workarounds wherever they can. I understand they want to profit from their awesome products but wherever anything doesn't work they're starting to lose their user friendliness along the way. Which still, to me, is their selling point number one, notwithstanding the really great design.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to do right now.
But thanks again for your time. I'll keep posting what happens.

Adresse book & Nokia N70

iSync and N70 is ok.
But, I can't use Adresse book with my N70 (can't send and receive SMS, can't compose ...)
On adresse book, i have the bluetooth symbole,
when i clik on, i can't connect on N70.
How do i do ?

As hrs1364 said, your phone is likely having a virus. The N70 works on the old s60v2 operating system which is prone to viruses.
However, the virus could either be in the phone memory, or in the memory card. The procedure specified by hrs1364 would only work if the virus is on the phone memory, but not if it was on the memory card.
I would suggest you to remove the memory card and reboot the phone, and use it without the card. If it behaves normally without a card, then the problem is on the card which you have to format. If it keeps on acting up, do a hard reset.
Remember that doing a hard reset erases all your data, so be sure you have a backup of contacts, messages and calendar. Do not backup or restore settings and files as the virus would be included in the backup.

My Adress Book shows strange behavior, cannot search or edit

Hi folks!
I recently updated to Lion, also switched my .me to iCloud. At first everything was perfect, now I am experiencing strange behaviours:
I am starting to add fotos to my contacts because I like the view in Mail.app where the contact fotos are shown in the list of emails. After I added some more photos I cannot search in the address book anymore. Typing a name into the search field and nothing happens. Also clicking on a name an nothing happens on the right side. Absolutely nothing. There's only one entry that does not change and when hitting the "edit" Button, only this one contact is changed. Also this one contact changes when doing a right click on a contact name on the left side.
I did some searches here but did not find anything. What I did was deleting the "AddressBook-v22.abcddb" in the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ Folder as suggested in some other threads but this does not change anything.
This is really annoying and I cannot use my Address Book which I really need. I have more than 2000 contacts inside and it's essential for my business!

OK, seems like I can replicate the behaviour:
- repair Disk Permissions
- restart MBP (do not open all apps again)
- after reboot, only the Finder is open
- open Address Book
- click on contact name on the left side, brings details on the right, editing works also -> great!
- click in the search field and type a name
-> no filter of the list or search result appears
- click on any contact left hand side, nothing happens on the right, the last clicked contact before the search remains open
- double click on contact name opens separate window as expected
- no search possible anymore
- no editing possible anymore
-> again repair permissions, and restart and same procedure ...
this is Adress Book 6.1 (1062) on MacBook Pro 17'' with 10.7.2

Lost all my concats in my adresse book

I was putting new adresses in my adresse book and there in 2 sec, the were all gone.... is there a way I can get them back???????

I am sure your English is much better than my German, Italian, French, or any other language would be. I have once been to the beautiful city of Geneva, Switzerland and am amazed at the ability of its residents to master several different languages, and their kindness when dealing with Americans like myself who can barely master just one. But I am still not clear about some of the things you say. I will do my best to make myself clear to you by numbering the important questions I must ask about this, and then discussing what I mean about each one:
1. When you say "new files without name show up," where did these things show up?
In the main Address Book window there are 3 columns. On the left is the list of groups. In the center is the list of names of all contacts (people or companies) in the selected group. On the right is the information about the selected contact. The information in the right column includes things like names, email addresses, street addresses, a picture of the contact, and so on. In English, Apple calls each contact a "card," because it is like a business card or a card in a rotary office file.
Did these 20 new things show up in this window? If they did, which column did the show up in?
I ask because none of these things would be a "file." When you create a new entry (a new "card"), all of the information is blank at first -- no name, email address, or anything else. You can do this by clicking the "+" button at the bottom of the name list. This may be what you did, but you would have to do it 20 times to create 20 new blank entries (cards).
2. What did you highlight when you "try to delete only this one"?
Was it in the group or name column, or something in the contact information? Is is possible you highlighted more than one thing?
3. How did you try to delete this one?
If not with the "-" button or keyboard, did you drag something to the trash, or use the menu?
I am not sure any of this is important because it does sound like you somehow have lost all your contacts. I ask these things only in the hope that I do not understand what happened.
If your Mac is new or you are still covered by Applecare, it might be best for you to contact Applecare in your country for better help than I can offer you. You may also want to try posting here in your own language. I won't understand you but someone else who does may be able to help you more.

Is there a way to specify which fields are displayed in the "new contact" window in the adress book, or at least highlight the ones that are important to me?

Use emails and adress book from a different user

I bought a new Imac and start using it.
Then when I tryed to restore the back up that I have on my other macbook, that I did on Time Machine, it went to a different user.
Now I have 2 users.
There are 2 apps that I can not use with me new user (Things and Email-direct) and can not acess mail and adress book from the other.
I have already install everything on my new account. What should I do to use the email and adress from my different user account?

No problem except for a minor nuisance when it's time to update the apps. Depending on how you do it, you might need to log out and back in again but, in any case, you must have both passwords.
The iTunes library can hold purchases made with multiple Apple IDs as can the iPod.
