SMTP 553 Error w/ ATT Broadband - Can't send email

I am having an issue sending email. Messages are getting caught up in the outbox and the verification is rejecting the messages b/c of what appears to be CAPITAL LETTERS.
Ie.
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.att.yahoo.com.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Sending from: Bob Xxxxx <[email protected]>
ATT responded to the problem and explained that the capital X is the reason that the message is being rejected and that everything needed to be in lowercase. I have deleted the account and it all appears in lowercase, however ATT and the error message is still reporting a capital X.
What can be causing this and what is the solution. I have deleted and re-added the account and everything appears to be in lowercase.

Thanks orangekay, but I addressed the authorization of the domain several months ago and this isn't the problem - the problem is that Mac Mail seems to be sending using uppercase. I have been through this issue w/ ATT support (tier 2) and they have explicitly told me this is the issue.
Domains and email addresses should not be case sensitive - however b/c of new spam filters they have set up this is now an issue. I am successful sending the mail ~20% of the time which leads me to also believe that some of there servers are running different rules.
So - How can I address the Xxxxx.com issue?

As you haven't told us who your email provider is, no.
There isn't an SMTP server for Greece - it is either provided by your email provider, or the Internet provider you are connected through.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, things have gotten progressively worse now in another direction. After I posted this, I shut down my computer to go to work. It had to "rebuild" the filevault sparseimage to recover space.
Now when I restarted it, I am missing things from my dock, ? marks are in their place, all of my preferences have been set to some default AND this is the biggie - I have no mail accounts whatsoever. When I click on Mail, it asks me if I want to establish a new account. It looks like the FileVault action has totally screwed up my system.
I tried rebuilding the permissions as recommended above using safe boot. Didn't help. I am now trying to repair the FileVault sparseimage as recommended elsewhere. I think I now see what the problem might be. I have two different sparseimages for the same account with the only difference is that a 1 is appended to the second one. Unfortunately I can't tell which it is. I have a feeling I should repair the 1st one (without the suffix 1). It must not be able to open that and hence that is why it made a second one.
Any other help anyone?

Thunderbird can't send email to addresses in Address Book because of formatting error

My Thunderbird can't send email to an address picked from the Address Book. It gives the following error:
"An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.1.1 <"name@telconame"@telco.com> Unknown recipient. Please check the message recipient "name@telconame"@telco.com and try again."
You can see that Thunderbird has garbled the name/address pair: "name@telconame"@telco.com" so that it's unworkable.
If I type the email address by hand, it sends the email OK. But it can't retrieve an address from the Address Book without garbling the name/address pair. Win 7, TBird Version 32.0; it's the same in SafeMode.
Any ideas?

Make two Address Book entries for him; one for each of his e-mail addresses. Make a new Address Book group and put both of his entries in it. When you send him an e-mail just type in the name of the group in the To: field.

When you say won't let you set the outgoing mail password, have you gone to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calenars > Accounts and the account name > Outgoing Mail Server > Primary Server > Password and set the password at that point? Do you have SSL switched ON or OFF as required by your carrier, and do you have Authentication set to Password, and the Server Port set to what your carrier wants to see, usually 25?

Can't send email, broadband slow

Since I got a new broadband connection with wireless router I have experienced two issues that I've been unable to resolve. Firstly I can't send emails from Mail using my pop3 address although I can recieve them. Secondly it takes minutes to navigate to any webpage. I've tried various configs for the networking and the mail accounts and nothing seems to work. I've also tried switching off the firewall in the Mac and the router. These two problems persist when using both wireless and direct ethernet.
Is anyone able to shed some light on this?

I am having the same issue with Media Temple Email.
My problem in more detail is:
Adding my Media Temple Hosted domain email to a desktop service on my Macbook Air.
I have tried this on both Mac Mail and Thunderbird.
I add the account manually and have checked, double checked, triple checked the server addresss and also the user name and password and they are correct.
I have altered the ports from being default to custom and have tried both SSL and non SSL and still it is unable to connect to the SMTP server.
IMAP inbox is working as I recieve mails but can not send them.
I have chatted to Media Temple and they say it must be something to do with the hardware of the MacBook Air which to start with I disagreed with but I have since tried adding the email to my Mac Mini and it works fine.
I am assuming their is an issue in the MacBook Air with the SMTP ports and I would really appreciate some advice on how to fix this as I don't want to use Webmail for ever.

Earlier it was reverting with Error :
ORA-29278: SMTP transient error: 421 Service not available
but after using the above Document ID we came to know that we are unable to TELNET mail server with Port 25
Issue got solved but now its reverting with Error as below :
ORA-29278: SMTP transient error: 401 4.1.7 Bad sender address syntax
I then tried UTL_MAIL instead of UTL_SMTP as sugested by someone but it is also reverting with same Error.
+ I am using the same code as provided in document ID 604763.1 +

Usually 'authentication required' means that you need to submit a username (or e-mail address) and password to the e-mail server, when sending a message. This logic is not different between Outlook and Thunderbird, and even with the latest and previous version of Thunderbird.
Of course you can try the previous version again to see if it solves the problem, although you'll be less secure because you would be missing the latest fixes.
If you'd be willing to get back to Thunderbird, say if your frustration level with your new app would increase too much, please see our article [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-send-messages cannot send messages] for further help.
In all other cases I'd appreciate it if you could mark this as answer so we know you don't need further help.

Can't send email from home

I have a serious problem. My wife has a Mac Book Pro for work and she can send email at any location except from home. The error she is getting is
Cannot send message using the server smtp.knology.net:(username)
The server "smtp.knology.net" refuses to allow a connection on the default ports. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click try later to leave the message in your outbox until it can be sent.
I have BellSouth/AT&T DSL with a Westel Versalink 327W modem. The funny thing is our local library also has BellSouth DSL and she can send email from there. Like I said, the only place she can't send email is from our house.

It is the BS/ATT system you are on. BS/ATT does not allow sending email to another domain from a Residential account. I had the same problem with my work email from home. All sent mail on port 25, I think it is, from a ATT Residential account must go through the ATT servers and or ATT/Yahoo.
Have your wife check with the mail provider for an alternate sending port. My work mail servers used port 26 for POP and some other port for IMAP.
EDIT:
Right the Library has a Business Account. No restrictions on the Business ATT DSL.

We changed it when we went to another location, and can't get it back. Telus support can't fix it. Neither smtp.telus.net NOR mail.telus.net works for Outgoing server to send mail. Please help! Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
