does there exist some kind of api to implement smtp capabilities within a application that it is possible to send mails without having a smtp server running?

While you usually need a POP or IMAP server to collect the incoming mail for you, and to which your client asks for the delivered mail, when sending mail it's your client itself which gets in touch with an SMTP server (either the recipient or a relay one) to accomplish that.
In other words your client is acting as a server itself (as far as the mail exchange process is concerned).
I tried JavaMail to use it as the notification system for an ERP application I'm currently working at: I want my clients to send an EMail message to the proper recipients at some specific job completions.
In this case the above mentioned recipient SMTP server is our domain's one, and each client application refers directly to it (of course all EMail traffic is kept within our network).
I hope to have made the explanation a bit clearer.

I am developing a windows 8.1 app with microsoft visual studio. The app shall run in an embedded box PC. From within this app I want to be able to completely shut down the computer. Is there some simple way of simulating or acessing windows/shut down function

IPhone: Sending a picture as an attachment, not embedded within the email?

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to e-mail a picture from your iPhone, as an attachment? NOT embedded within the e-mail....?
My wife's e-mail client (school teacher) will not allow her to receive/view emails that have pictures embedded within the body text. She can only receive pictures if they are attached separately on the e-mail.
The only work-around I have found, is by installing the Google Mail app onto my iPhone. Google Mail will allow you to send pictures as attachments. But I do not prefer this. I would like to use the iPhone's native e-mail application.

To follow up on this question, is there any way to receive *.tiff or *.jpg on an iPhone/iOS device in general as an attachment rather than imbedded in the email, and "open with" some other application, or save to an application store, like GoodReader does with say, *.pdf's?

Whether the AIR app support create some formats of rich media (besides html5) and share to others within the app?

I want to develop an app that have some features like
user can create animation content in some public or proprietary format
user can share the content to others within the app
HTML5 is a choice but not the best for performance reason
May I use AIR or any other suggestions? thanks a lot!

I think the real reason they choose INDesign is because it a first a layout tool. Which is what magazine's use for the content. They know the this is where the distribution sector is. You get the Magazine corporations to adopt it, then you add the Multimedia capabilities that provides these same corporations the ability to use their existing layouts as a base then build the interactivity from there.
My issue is that I can't be the only one who saw this need arising. A tool that incorporates layout, multimedia and publishing to various platforms which has power and ease of use is so badly needed. I am amazed that Apple did not partner with someone, especially Adobe to create a tool of this nature.
Creating great applications, apps, and multimedia documents in my opionion should not be developed only by those with great technical skill. Anyone who can conceive of an idea, has good knowledge of Adobe and Apple Professional tools should be able to easily create apps and multimedia documents. Yet no one has developed a good WYSIWG tool. You still need so much coding to get anything done.
All I can say is... the labs division said that September was the release date for the tools they used for the Wired App. So where are they?

I have purchased a from within an app. I submit my password for the app, and then my Apple ID. I then get the following messages "Regrant failure _ please log in with the same user that has bought this app" and that is followed by "cant conn with IT _

I have purchased an item from within the app PocketBible on my iPad. However when I try to download it I am asked for my app User Name and Password and then my Apple ID and password. I give both of these. I then get a message which says Regrant failure - Please log in with the same user that has bought the app. That is then followed by Pocket Bible Alert - cannot connect to iTunes Store.
Anybody got any ideas, both what the 1st alert means and how I get round the problem please.

I had the same problem. My wife had the PocketBible on her Ipad 2 and she transferred ownership to me. I had to delete the app and reinstall it from the App store(logged in with my apple ID) and its working without a problem. I do not get those error messages when I attempt to Buy/Upgrade or Add/Remove books.

Have you tried a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release?

How do I fix PDFs not opening when embedded within a PPT?

I've several PDFs embedded within various Powerpoint PPT files which I simply cannot open - depending upon the laptop I'm using. When I use by business laptop to open the embedded PDF, I get the message: "The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application." On my business laptop I'm running Windows 7, Adobe Reader X, Adobe Acrobat 9, and MS Powerpoint 2007. When I use my home/personal laptop, the PDF opens up without any errors. My home laptop runs Window 7, Adobe Reader X, and MS Powerpoint 2007. It's weird. I can open embedded MS Excel and MS Word files within the same PPT files on any laptop, but not embedded PDFs. Any idea what's going on here?

Sadly, I have never had luck with the OLE Embedded Object that you put into Office application documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The OLE objects embedded get corrupted and cannot be extracted. While it's true that there are two other instances where you could get this error:
1) The OLE server application (Acrobat or Reader in this case) is not properly registered with the system
2) Possibly Protected Mode/Protected View in Acrobat is blocking the execution of the OLE Server Application
I wouldn't bet on it.
In the future you may want to use a PDF Portfolio where you can attach both Office and PDF files within the Portfolio envelope.

I am no longer able to send emails from within iPad apps.

I always used to be able to send files with attachments by email from within iPad apps like Adobe Reader or Pages. Used to work but now it doesn't - and this for all apps all at once. It gets to the point where it has prepared the email, but if you press send, it says "Could not save or send message". It also doesn't matter which email account I use - result always the same. It's a real pain as this was a good way of editing a word file and then emailing it to myself.

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

How to restrict the ordering of apps from within an app

My grandkids somehow run up charges by ordering apps from within an app they are using usually games without even knowing they are doing it. How do I restrict them from doing it? And how do I get the charges to Itunes removed when this happens?

You can go into settings, and restrictions and turn off 'in app purchases'
You may also want to set your apple id from 'require after 15 minutes' to 'require immediately'
As to getting the charges reversed you can contact the app developer. Maybe they will reverse the charges, but they don't have to. The terms of sale are that all sales are final.

This happens to me all the time.
If is a one page PDF it seems as though it comes over already open and inline in the body of the email. Multiple page PDF files show as the PDF icon.
I can't find any official documentation of this - other than based on my own experience with PDF attachments in my various email accounts.

Calling functions of a SWF embedded within an HTML Text Field...

I have a slideshow SWF of size 150px by 150px which changes
image every 5 seconds with the use of a timer, the SWF has a kill()
function which stops the timer.
In a larger content holding SWF I have a dynamically
generated textfield which populates its htmlText property via an
XML feed.
Within the htmlText I am inserting the slideshow SWF using
the <img> tags... It all works great until I proceed to
another page as there is no way to unload the slideshow SWF or call
its kill() function which eventually lags the system as I have
several heavy animations in the pages on ENTER_FRAMES.
Does anyone know how to unload a SWF or gain access to its
functions which is embedded within htmlText...

I tried that and using txt.getImageReference("idHere") I
casted it to a loader object however it wont let me then get access
to the SWFs functions...
I tried creating a sprite and using addChild() tried adding
the loader to the sprite but it gave me cohesion errors...

Bar Code Font Embedding within PDF report

With a special postal code bar code installed on the 10gR2 application server to the %WINDIR%\fonts folder how should the UIFONT.ALI be configured to ensure the font is embedded within a PDF generated (WIN32 application servers)
If specified within the [PDF:Subset]
"Quick Address 4State BarCode" = "QUICASB_.TTF"
It would appear that the font is required at the client opening the PDF in order to view the barcode; the font is not being embeded within the PDF.

Hello,
First, generate an output with DESFORMAT=HTML and check the font name used in the output.
Then, check that the file QUICASB_.TTF exists in a directory of REPORTS_PATH (take care to the case sensitivity on UNIX)
Check that the file uifont.ali is ok (use the utilty mfontchk)
Check the "precedence" in the file uifont.ali
See the comment in the file uifont.ali itself :

I am facing the below mentioned problem.
Automating PDF which is embedded within SAP Application
In this case, we need to do some navigations within the PDF like selecting values in the drop-down, checking checkbox etc.
We tried installing Aptt plug-in in our system and recorded using the AcroQTP add-in but still the object gets recognized as one window object.
I tried with different combinations of selecting addins like SAP-Web-VB-AcroQTP, AcroQTP-Web and Acro-QTP.
In all the three cases, the PDF was recognized as one window object.
The details of the application and QTP is,
QTP - 9.5 version
IE - 6.0 version
Application Technology - SAP
Pls let me know if there are any work arounds for this problem.

I have encountered same problem while working SAP application. We have installed the following on our systems:
1. Acrobat 9.4
2. QTP 10
3. AcroQTP plugin
The addin manager displays the plugin but while recording/spying the objects are identified as WinObject on the PDF which is invoked through SAP application.
Could you or anyone from forum can help us out to solve this problem?

Embedding font in app

Hi,
I'm using LTC Bodoni (via TypeKit) on my website and now I'm working on my digital portfolio: basically HTMl5+CSS, packed with Baker Framework to be published on Apple Store.
I would use the font with @font-face.
I'm wondering if the licence of Bauer Bodoni allows this kind of use.
I want ot be sure before buying the font...
On Bauer Bodoni webpage (http://store2.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-IT&event=displayFontPackage &code=1294) Embedding licence is set to Editable for this font: so I could embed the font in a digital document and "the embedded font can then be used by the recipient of the electronic document to view, print and further edit or modify the text and structure of the document in which it is embedded."
Using a font inside an app is a little bit different: my final file is not a real document, it's an app. But the recipient (final user) will not be able to modify the document or use the font in no way, because it will be embedded inside the app.
Does someone have any idea?
Does licence cover use inside app or not?
