Smtp email (MS office toolkit) can't open attachments

I'm using the SMTP Email send file.vi to send a Word.doc file as an attachment. The .doc file is the result of the MS office report.vi opening a template, filling the bookmarks, then saving the file as a .doc.
The .doc is then opened with the New report.vi, printed (print report.vi), then disposed (disposed report.vi). The .doc is then attached to an email using SMTP email send file.vi.
The email(s) are arriving without problem and the attachment is visible. If, however, the attachment is double clicked, it will not open. The error message indicates that there may be either path or security problems. There is not, I'm sure of it.
Additionally, I tried saving the attachment "SAVE AS" to a local drive and then opening it. The "save as" worked alright, but when opeing the file I got the same errors.
Oddly enough, if I navigated to the location where the MS office report.vi saved the .doc file and then opened the file, everything worked as expected. The file opened and the bookmarks were filled in as expected.
It seems to me that Outlook (exchange server) is doing something to the file (freakin Microsoft). I can't imagine, however, that I'm the first to attach a file to an email using the MS office toolkit.
Somebody please shed some light on this. It's driving me nuts.
thanks,
todd

Hi Ma,
Here's the "Emailing_Reports.zip" including the VI for LabVIEW 7.0.
Please notice that the option of setting the "binary?" connector to TRUE, is specific to the "SMTP Email Send File.vi" and not just to this example.
Good luck!

These are the "out of the box" file formats that you can view on the iPad as mail attachments. If the file is not listed here, you cannot view it without a compatible third party app. What is the file extension?
Viewable document types: .jpg, .tiff, .gif (images); .doc and .docx (Microsoft Word); .htm and .html (web pages); .key (Keynote); .numbers (Numbers); .pages (Pages); .pdf (Preview and Adobe Acrobat); .ppt and .pptx (Microsoft PowerPoint); .txt (text); .rtf (rich text format); .vcf (contact information); .xls and .xlsx (Microsoft Excel)

Email has jammed. Can only open message by right clicking. Cannot open attachments. Cannot send or delete messages in usual way. How can I correct this? Ian

Go to your User's Library folder. (if you don't know how to find, see this link .)
              •          Scroll to Mail folder.
              •          Select the V2 > MailData folder.
              •          Delete any files in MailData with envelope in the name. (should be 3)
When you open Mail it will re-index your files.
Open the Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see red lights? If yes, click on Show Details
Most likely you need to re-enter your passwords in SMTP settings.

Unless you believe middle-click is yours and don't like it being usurped, mine is set globally to "Enter".

  • When I attach a document and send as an email, non apple users can not open it?

For my business I have to send invoices to customers, When I attach the invoice to an email non apple uses can not open the file? why is this.
I have tried to copy and paste the invoice to body of email and when they get it it appears as a question mark in a box?
    how can I fix this?

    Couple of thoughts.
When you have the Mail compose window up, there should be a row of icons along the top right side. One of these is a paperclip for attachments. Click it, and check the Send Windows-Friendly Attachments. This will help for non-Mac Mail recipients. Ultimately, it will be their email system, and how it is configured that will determine how their attachments arrive — not you.
Send your invoices as PDF, not Pages, or Word content. Since you don't mention your operating system or release of Pages, I will cover the bases here:
    Pages '09
One can use the Share menu to send a PDF via Mail. It does the export to PDF, opens Mail, and attaches the PDF. (Broken in Yosemite).
File ▸ Export ▸ PDF…, and then drag/drop the PDF into a Mail compose Window. If document size, right-click on it and choose View as Icon.
    Pages v5
On the right-side of the Toolbar, there is a Share icon. Choose Send a Copy > Email > PDF. This auto-attaches to a new Mail compose window.
File ▸ Export To ▸ PDF… . Same as Pages '09, second bullet.

  • How can I open attachments in email

How can I open attachments in email

Are you sure that the attachment file type is a supported file? Can you open the attachment on your computer?
If the answer to both questions is yes - try quitting the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on Mac?

Why can I open attachments (pptx and PDF) on iPhone but not on my MacAir (OS X 10.9.2)? Generally, I can open PDFs on my Mac, but in this case, I opened on iPhone, and not on computer! Also pptx file from one sender opened on iPhone, and not on Mac, and the same pptx sent from another person wouldn't open on either! Help!

Hi there.  I think as far as PowerPoint files go (pptx) you will need a copy of Office or some other compatible software (e.g. Keynote) to open it on your Mac.  On an iPhone there is a viewer built in just so you can take a look at most common attachment types.  If you have a copy of Microsoft Office on your Mac you should be able to open the pptx files in PowerPoint.
OS X definitely has a PDF viewer, it's called Preview.  I think you can also load Adobe Acrobat if you want but I've stayed away from it for years as I find Preview faster and better.
If you still can't open a PDF file attached to an email message on your MacAir by double clicking on it, could you let us know what error message you get, or what happens?  That will help people to help you.

  • I can't open attachments since I accidently cleared my download and browsing history

I can't open attachments in my email. Hotmail. Using Firefox browser. I just want to clear recent history for cache but cleared all but the two bottom ones, offline website, and site preferences. I was trying to fix a problem that I could not access my contact list of my hotmail account. I am using IE now and can get to my contacts and open attachments in that. But want to fix my Firefox

I understand that you cannot open attachments.

  • I can't open attachments on my iPad 2.  I have downloaded the 8.0.2 software update.  I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

I can't open attachments on my iPad 2t and I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

Try a reset hold home/sleep buttons until Apple logo appears

I have adobe acrobat 11 reader writer I want to use the pointer symbol on full screen instead of the hand, iwas able to do it on adobe 10 also when in full screen i can't open attachments unless i right click and open it then it boots me out of full screen is there any way i can click on the attacment without going out of full screen

I don't know why the change, but the pointer appears in the same way as it does on the main screen, not a pointer. There does not appear to be anyway to change it. You may want to submit a comment to the Features Requests: Acrobat Feature Requests. I also submitted this as a bug.
As a clarification, your "adobe acrobat 11 reader writer" is not informative. There is Acrobat 11 and Reader 11. Writer is not a product as such. So you have referred to Acrobat in a contradictory manner. In the future, please just indicate Acrobat 11 or Adobe Acrobat 11.

  • Still can't open attachments.

Hi I posted a thread a while back about not being able to open attachments on a uses BB curve. I reviewed other articles about how to resolve this issues; firstly resent the service book, which didn't work. I've now just performed a security wipe and re-authenticated with the BES.
Now, it's solved the problem of not being able to reply to emails, but it still won't open attachments. Am I missing something or is there another way to resolve this isssue?
    many thanks..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Don't think I saw this solution here.  The year is now 2011 and the device being used is 8900 os 5.
Could not open attachments. Went to options>security options>firewall and check for blocked messages due to incorrect encryption key or mismatched key. (this is good to check on a regular basis)
if there are any issues then go back on menu to security options and choose "information" then scroll down to and highlight "Desktop".  Use the menu key and select "regenerate encryption key".
I performed all these steps in a matter of 1 to 2 minutes and immediately went back to my message to see the downloaded/opened attachment that was previously sitting and 0% for over 20 minutes.
Please save yourself time and effort by trying this first before wiping your phone.

Is there any other solutions can fix this problem? Any help are appreciated.
    Yong.

    Hello Yong,
Thanks for posting in our forum. Seems you've already tried lots of things, and I can see that those are all steps that reportedly have worked for others.
Here is one more thing that you might want to have a try:
    Open Registry Editor
Go to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\command
Highlight the key, select the (Default), select "Modify..."
from the pull-down menu and then enter the value below: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\EXCEL.EXE"
    "%1" (include the quote marks)
    Then OK your way out
Please have a try and feel free to post back.
