SMTP error, cannot send mail

I just moved and have begun using RCN internet services. I use mail to access a .Mac account. Now, I can receive mail but not send mail. RCN insists it is a problem with .Mac's DNS and that they are not blocking port 25 nor smtp.mac.com. I can send and receive email from other WiFi hotspots. The error message I receive is this:
"Cannot send message using the server smtp.mac.com
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail of change your network settings."

I save my .Mac account Sent and Drafts messages locally on the hard drive, I use Port 587 as the server port for the .Mac authenticated SMTP server and I haven't experienced the same.
This may be a problem with the Mail.app preference file which stores all account information and general Mail.app preferences.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is for a .Mac account if available at System Preferences > .Mac.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before (if your .Mac account information is re-entered automatically, check the .Mac SMTP Server Port field to confirm 587 is entered in place of 25), the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered and are available , you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
I have no need to store Drafts, Sent, Trash or Junk messages on the server in Mail so i store them locally on the hard drive. This is only needed if you access your .Mac account in Mail or with another email client on a another computer to keep the messages/mailboxes for the account synchronized with multiple email clients on different computers.

  • Error Cannot Send Mail

    To the community,
Have message error which read in total as follows: " Cannot Send Mail" A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipient (the person e-mail address) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying."
How can I resolve this error?
    Thanks

This is a phone upgrade 4s to 5s. Still have 4s same email accounts which works and same transfered to 5s.  I looked at 4s settings to mimic in 5s setup. Think a step or two is missing. The 4s send and receives emails with no problem. The 5s receives no problem just cannot reply or send email. Calling the email provider is not the problem. I can send and receive off laptops, other Iphones with no problems.  Do you have anymore suggestions?

  • Smtp offline cannot send mails can receive

Cannot send mails from mac mail continues to show smtp offline however i can only receive mails, at my wits end

Try the Mailbox menu and select Take all accounts offline, then select Take all accounts online.
If this does not work, you should call your email provider. They may have changed their settings for SMTP, or you may be on a different network that requires different settings.

  • E-mail error:  Cannot Send Mail:  The sender address was invalid

I can receive e-mail but cannot send it. Everything goes to my outbox. I did not change any settings. Nothing has changed that I know of. For months I could send e-mail -- now I cannot. I even e-mailed myself, and it says the sender address is invalid. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The "Recipient addresses are invalid" message is misleading.
Most ISP's don't allow you to send email through their SMTP server unless you are A) on their network (e.g. connected via wi-fi to a cable connection provided by your ISP) or B) you authenticate to their SMTP server.
On Blueyonder here in the UK (my ISP), you can send via their SMTP server from the iPhone over 3G as long as you authenticate to it. I setup my Mac mail to authenticate on outbound email sent via smtp.blueyonder.co.uk and it works fine. I then synced the mail settings to my iPhone and it works fine (although a little slow to send).
Alternatively your cellular provider usually runs their own SMTP server to which you will also have to authenticate, and you can send through it. For the iPhone in the UK O2 are the exclusive provider, and they have the smtp.02.co.uk gateway.

  • SMTP Error when sending mail

Hopefully someone can help, this is really irritating... I have moved from Entourage to Mac Mail when I had to do a system restore to see how the mail app has improved. My problem is when I send mail out I get an SMTP authentication error and it asks me through a dropdown list which other SMTP server to use. Since I have only one (smtp.mail.yahoo.com:[username]) I retry and it then works.
I basically have this problem every time I send out a mail, but it works after retrying. It's not a huge issue but one I would like to get fixed. Anyone had this before?

    E -
It seems as if it may be timing out, I am not really sure. But it hasn't done it to me in over a week now. I have been using a new wireless router so maybe that might have something to do with it.
But I have been using port 25 and I am not using SSL, just username password.
Not sure what exactly has changed but it seems to be working now. thanks for all your help Ernie.

  • SMTP error (cannot send) when sending rich text format (RTF) messages

I HAVE POSTED THIS TOPIC IN THE TIGER > MAIL & ADDRESS BOOK DISCUSSION AREA
because most of my users are using OS X 10.4.11 & OS X 10.4.10 with Mail 2.1.1 & Mail 2.1
but this ALSO AFFECTS the two LEOPARD users I have using OS X 10.5.1 with Mail 3.1.
This is just a notification. Please carry on the discussion "back" there.

  • Cannot send mail & Connection error after 2.0

    Hey guys,
I'm running 2.0 on an 8GB 2G iPhone. After updating to 2.0 in the mail app im getting two errors. The first one is "Connection to outgoing server "smtp.comcast.net" failed" and the second (when I'm trying to send mail) is "Cannot send mail. The sender address was invalid".
For the first error, I remember this being a problem when I first got the phone in January, but I cannot for the life of me remember what I changed in the settings so that it would work.
The second error is new with 2.0.
Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated
    Cheers

I am having the exact same problem. Can't send any emails. Get the message "Can't send mail. Recipient address invalid" or something like that. I have reviewed all the troubleshooting information. This did not happen until I upgraded to 2.0. I am using Edge with a pop account on an original iphone. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • ITouch error Message  Cannot send Mail.

My first generation iTouch has quite sending mail. I can receive email, but can not send. When I try to send mail I get the error message
    Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.mac.com:jbleeg" failed.
I am using apples Mail program and have it set up as imap. When I right click on the inbox and choose Edit Imap Accout, I can see the incoming and out going settings match my ipod setting screen.
This used to work, but when apple went to this "cloud" and .me, it quit working.
I rarely send email from my iTouch so this is not a big problem, but annoying.
    Any suggestions.
    Jerry

The other thing you might want to try on your touch is to just delete the mail account and re-enter it. This seems to fix a number of problems with e-mail when you are getting these types of errors.

  • "Cannot Send Mail" App has the smtp address wrong.

After upgrading my 3GS Iphone to OS 5.0.1, I have been an error msg when trying to send mail:
"Cannot Send Mail" - No password provided for [email protected]

I have deleted the account and set it up again several times. No luck!
Does anyone else see this error?
    Any help?

Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>your account>Outgoing mail Server SMTP>Primary Server then turn Server ON and fill in both User Name +Password under Outgoing Mail Server.

I'm trying to troubleshoot the SAME issue now, SAME device (had this for a few months but didn't bother since I can access web mail other ways).
The only difference is this is my hotmail I have set up through apple mail. Does it say:  "Cannot Send Mail. The username or password for: "STMP: (emailname) @hotmail.com @stmp.live.com" is incorrect."? Well, in my case it's "hotmail.com" anyway.
I tried removing it, adding it again, then shutting the ipad on & off again. No success.
    Did you get it fixed.
P.S.: This issue started happening right after one of the IOS software updates.

About ~20 hours later, this ended up solving itself. We can send email using the '.icloud' email from both the iPad and iPhone.  Advise would be 'wait' before you start seeking alteranatives like yahoo, hotmail, etc.  This definitely is a convenient way to keep all your 'cloud' information in a centralized place, including the common email...

  • CANNOT SEND MAIL FROM .MAC SMTP ACCOUNT

    Hello everyone--
I can receive mail from my .mac account and have done extensive troubleshooting including:
    1. Changing ports from 25 to 587
    2. Deleting and re-installing mailbox
    3. Reading a hosts of topics
    4. I have the serving settings with SSL unchecked
...but this still giving me the same trouble. I cannot send out because my email address keeps getting rejected.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, can you send mail with this account and SMTP server?
If the answer is yes to both questions, select/use your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account which is invisible to all recipients.
Most, if not all ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only (such as the .Mac SMTP server) that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
Changing the Port for the SMTP server that is outside of the ISP's network from 25 to 587 usually resolves it but sometimes not depending on the ISP's restriction.
Have you contacted your ISP regarding their restrictions and/or requirements when using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by them?
Using your ISP's SMTP server to send mail with your .Mac account should work and it may be required regardless.

  • Since upgrade to iOS 7 Email error on over 100KB emails "Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large." Connecting to Exchange via Activesync

    Hi,
Following the upgrade to iOS 7.0.3 on all our iPhone and iPad devices, it has been identified that when sending emails around 100KB in size and over an error message appears on the device stating “Cannot Send Mail  The message was rejected by the server because it is too large.” See error message below. The send/receive limit is over 10MB so this is not the issue.
We are in an Exchange Environment using Microsoft Activesync. This issue is not evident in iOS 6. This has been tested on an iPhone 3GS running version iOS 6.1.3. We have been unable to repeat the issues seen on iOS 7 on the older OS. It is not possible to roll back to the older operating system as Apple are no longer signing the software.
We use Microsoft Active Sync to connect to our Exchange servers through a TMG. The issue is very inconsistent, some identical emails go through, some fail. This is not an issue with the send/receive limit as this is over 10MB. The error message when it fails on the TMG is Status: 413 Request Entity Too Large, which we believe is from IIS on the CAS server.
Does anyone have any suggest course of actions to take?
    Many Thanks

This resolution have to attend at the server not with the ios device. My employer's mail administrator reject me to correct it from the server. As his concern is, if ither ios devices works why don't mine? So I am helpless than changing my iphone. It works fine for early versions of ios and with androids. And also one of my friends iphone4 with ios 7 (similar as mine) works too. So I guess it's something wrong with my iPhones settings. But basic question I cannot understand is it works in my phone before this ios7 upgrading. And currently working with my yahoo account too. Favourable reply expected.
