SMTP Error Size
When trying to send a message with an attachment (a relatively big one) I get the following error:"SMTP Error: 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction".
I have not made any mail filters yet. No Sieve filters till now.
And there is no BLOCK_LIMIT option setting.
How does the MTA enforce this rule?? How can I change it?
The problem exaclty is when I try to send email between internal users "local domains" I get the following error
"SMTP Error: 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction", means that i can't send email larger than 300kb, but i can send it to external email like gmail, yahoo ...etc.
version: 2005/Q4
in the directory /msg/config/ , I check the files imta.cnf, options.dat, msg.conf ... but didn't found that option LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT.
now i need to enable all internal "more than120 users" to send emails with larger size internally.

SMTP Error: 5.3.4 & aliasdetourhost
Hi.
Version of SJMS:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.3-4.01 (built Aug 3 2007; 32bit)
libimta.so 6.3-4.01 (built 17:13:29, Aug 3 2007; 32bit)
SunOS mess1 5.10 Generic_125100-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440
My problem:
I have configured email checking via 'aliasdetourhost' keyword and message size limit via COS in LDAP. When I try to send an email with attachment I get the error "SMTP Error: 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction".

I found in forums that someone had the same problem and "solved" it with LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT keyword in option.dat. It is helpful, but after I set this up the MTA ignores my limits and users can send emails with unlimited size of attachments (except webmail where is limit with 'service.http.maxmessagesize' keyword.)
I tried to set up global message size limit with 'BLOCK_LIMIT' option as well as the sourceblocklimit keyword in imta.cnf and it didn't help and I got the same error message...
Does anybody know where should be the problem?Hi,

I have configured email checking via 'aliasdetourhost' keyword and message size limit via COS in LDAP.What is the size-limit you have set (the exact CoS attribute and value)?
When I try to send an email with attachment I get the error "SMTP Error: 5.3.4 a message size of 302 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 300 kilobytes computed for this transaction".Who exactly are you trying to send the email to (an internal user/group or external address)?
Do you get this error if you attempt to send to an external address (e.g. [email protected])?
I found in forums that someone had the same problem and "solved" it with LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT keyword in option.dat.I'm not quite sure how this is going to help unless you 'break' the existing default which is LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT=mailMsgMaxBlocks
Where customers get confused is when they provision using Delegated Administrator and give a user a 'silver' profile for example.
This profile has the somewhat limited restriction of "mailMsgMaxBlocks: 300" as per http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4438/6n6jdjbda?a=view. This 300 translates to 300KB which gives the error you mention. Rather then fixing/changing the CoS profile they 'break' the restriction mechanism by changing LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT.
It is helpful, but after I set this up the MTA ignores my limits and users can send emails with unlimited size of attachments (except webmail where is limit with 'service.http.maxmessagesize' keyword.)That is to be expected. All changing LDAP_BLOCKLIMIT will do is to disable per-user size restrictions. This doesn't address the source of the problem.
I tried to set up global message size limit with 'BLOCK_LIMIT' option as well as the sourceblocklimit keyword in imta.cnf and it didn't help and I got the same error message...The smaller per-user limit will override the larger global limit.
Does anybody know where should be the problem? You need to look at what you have set for the user re: CoS profile.

SMTP Error 5.1.1 ... User Unknown Error
Hi All,
I have installed Sun Java System Mesaaging Server 2005Q4 version. I have to configure the domain such that it doesnt conflict with the default domain in the organization. Say, if the default domain is abc.com, I have to a create a domain x123.abc.com where x123 will be the hostname.
I am not sure if this is possbile, but when I tried to sent email by making x123.abc.com as my default domain I get the SMTP error 5.1.1 while trying to send the mail.
It would be really helpful if someone could help me.
Thanks & Regards,
Soma.Hi and thanks for the response,
Firstly I am not using MX and x123 will be my host machine where I have installed my Messaging. I am not using smtp auth, I am addressing the message to [email protected].
And for Jay,
I tried to send mail from and to the admin user [email protected].
I ran the command imsimta and the result is below,
root@s1009 # clear
root@s1009 # ./imsimta test -rewrite -debug [email protected]

Hi,
The below error messgage i am getting while scheduling report in CMC. My report getting refreshed successfully but while posting refreshed file(Excel) it is not posting and throwing below error.
Error Message:
write error. [CrystalEnterprise.Smtp]: [Error sending mail message to SMTP server. Return code: [].]
please provide some help on this.
Thanks
VivekHi Vivek
Mails to the destinations are delievered by SMTP server. Size of the file in the mail depends on the SMTP server.
For example, If SMTP server does not permit file size more than 2MB then that file won't be delievered.
For testing purpose copy the instance generated in Filestore to your local drive and send this instance using your mail client to
desired destination.
You can try sending large size file from your mail client to test SMTP server capacity of sending large size file.
Thanks,
Hrishikesh Parasnis -
SMTP error from remote mail server 522 IP REPUTATI...
I have a hosting business, and one of my clients on BTinternet, using BT Mail is now having mail bounce back to sender when forwarded from her domain mailbox.
Here is an example of the bounced errors -
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
[email protected]
(ultimately generated from [email protected])
host mx.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk [65.20.0.49]
SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> SIZE=3749:
522 IP REPUTATION BAD (please check for IP address listing on reputation services)
I've changed the actual addresses above. The server the mail is being forwarded from has an IP address 138.128.161.22
It seems that BT believes that the server the mail is forwarded from is blacklisted. However, I am unable to discover any blacklist issue for this server. As you can see from the MXToolbox enquiry, there are no blacklists reported -
http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a138.128.161.22&run=toolpage
Can anybody from BT tell me who I need to contact to find out why they are not accepting mail from my server? I'm not having a problem with mail forwarded to any other ISP, and it seems to be just BT that is rejecting the mail.
I hope someone can advise.
MylesHi @magicalwonders

Reg.SMTP Error while using UTL_MAIL in Oracle 10g
Hi,
I am getting the following SMTP error while trying to use the UTL.MAIL package of Oracle 10g. The query is as follows.
begin
utl_mail.send(
sender => 'NAVEEN',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'Testing utl_mail',
message => 'The receipt of this email means'|| ' that UTL_MAIL works'
end;
UTL_MAIL package is installesd and the port 25 is configured and firewall is changed.
The same block was working fine before 5 days and now is giving the error as
ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 badly formatted MAIL FROM user - no "<"
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_SMTP", line 21

ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 407
ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 594
ORA-06512: at line 2
Could you please help me out how to proceed???
Regards,
Naveen Kumar. Can you back that statement about an Oracle UTL_SMTP bug up with an actual bug number??
From what you have posted, this is not a bug!! but expected and documented (RFC'ed) SMTP server behaviour.

As you can clearly see, the SMTP server expects a DOMAIN name as part of the MAIL FROM address. It also does not accept the alternative format suggested.
Yes, not all SMTP servers are equal and some support additional formatting.
But to imply that because the SMTP server does not accept your address formatted as string NAVEEN, it is a UTL_SMTP problem, sounds like a smelly one to me. -
JES Messenging Server (v6.0) issues: SMTP Error: 4.0.0
Hi,
We've successfully installed Directory Server 5.2, Indentity Server 6.1, Application Server 7.0 update 1, Web Server 6.1 and Calendar Server 6.0 on a Solaris 8 system.
This system is intended for test purposes, hence all the applications are on one system. The production system will be installed on seperate systems as per Sun's recommendations.
Apropos Messenging Server (v6.0)
When I log into the the Web interface I get:
"Quota root does not exist"
If I try to send a message to a local user from the Web interface I get:
"SMTP Error: 4.0.0 temporary error returned by alias expansion: [email protected]"
I get a similar error if I try to mail a local user from outside:
220 trabant.acc.graddelt.com -- Server ESMTP (Sun ONE Messaging Server 6.0 (built Oct 29 2003))
HELO zen.sys.uea.ac.uk

MAIL From: <[email protected]>
250 2.5.0 Address Ok.
RCPT To: <[email protected]>
452 4.0.0 temporary error returned by alias expansion: [email protected]
When we installed Messenger Server, we selected Schema v2 from comm_dsetup.pl. We would like to use Messsenger Server with Identity Server.
Any suggestions as to how to overcome this issue would be most welcome.
Thanks

Having been on Thunderbird for some years I have suddenly got the following message when trying to send mail.
An (SMTP) error occurred while sending mail. The server responded: Requested action aborted: This mail account has sent too many messages in a short amount of time. Please try later..
I have checked the SMTP server settings in tools, account settings and they are as they have always been. Is there something I have missed?Sending through web mail is totally irrelevant to using an SMTP server. The message even says it is from the server. Why do you think this is a Thunderbird problem.
The provider has put in place measures to keep people from spamming other email recipients using thier SMTP server. You have seen the result of those measures. -

Dear all,
Running Iplanet Messaging server 5.2 P1.While sending a message in webmail when i click on send i get the message smtp error. After going through the logs i found the following entries
tcp_local Q 9 rfc822;min@kathatraveline
s.com [email protected] TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connec
tion timed out
22-Jul-2005 21:31:25.00 tcp_local Q 10 rfc822;Dwight@zarifitnes
s.com [email protected] TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connect
ion timed out
I have checked that the functionality of the dns and it is working fine.there is no issue with our network also..Can anyone throw some light on this.
Thanks in advanceIf you get an error in webmail every time you click "send", that means that either:
1. your service.http.smtphost or service.http.smtpport is incorrect. These default to your local store system, but if they've been changed to point to some other box, that box isn't responding
or
2. Your store box isn't correctly configured to accept mail from "localhost".
The message you find from the MTA is totally unrelated. That message is telling you that when Messaging Server attempted to send to the address outside your network, that connection wasn't made, the remote server timed out.
The remote server could be down, or simply not running a mail server at the time the message attempt was made. "Q" means, we reQueue the message, and try again, later, using the "backoff" settings. -
Getting server error. CrystalEnterprise.Smtp: error when scheduled a webi
Getting server error. CrystalEnterprise.Smtp: error when scheduled a webi report to save as excel and send to an email account. What things to look for?
yes you should read the administration documents,
go to CMC, find "servers"
then "destination job server"
then click the "destination " tab
you will find some parameters, you have to configure it you.
the same scenario will be done to the "web intelligence job server"
good luck

I am trying to send an email from Lookout V6.6 using the Mailer object. I have an email address setup through GMAIL and have verified it works. Also, Lookout Mailer object is able to verify GMAIL server. I get the following error message when trying to send the email: "SMTP: invalid from address. SMTP error 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. d5sm35857280yhl.19". Anyone know what is causing this?
Another method is to use a SMTP relayer, we have deployed them in the past.

SMTP Error Code : 530 . For more information, see your SMTP server manual.
Hello,
I am Getting
"SMTP Error Code : <530>. For more information, see your SMTP server manual" error, While configuring SMTP in Data Services 4.0 system. I have tried executing the SMTP_TO function on another DS machine which has 3.2 verion installed, but getting the same error.
FYI,
1) Able to telnet the Exchange server through Data service machine
2) Maintained SMTP settings in Data services server manager
3) using the same SMTP server host name in other SAP systems (ECC,BI,PI) etc and able to send mails.
Regards
PuneetThanks for the reply Julian.
There was a problem in SMTP relay rights on Exchange server. Able to send mails now. Thanks!
Getting another problem wherein I am not able to send mails to multiple recipients i.e. If I specify 5 recipients in SMTP_TO function and execute the job then Every individual is getting E-Mail having there own ID in TO field, other Id's are not gettting displayed in TO field.
I hve checked note "1276348 - smtp_to function - multiple recipients not displayed"
Settings mentioned in the note have been done and job is getting executed without any error but the mails are not getting delivered.
It would be great if anyone can suggest on how to proceed here.
Thanks & Regards
Puneet
