Smtp issue - gmail

So I haven't done any updates; haven't changed ANYTHING. But suddenly, today, Mail refuses to send outgoing mail via the gmail servers. The only other account I have attached to Mail is my .mac account, and it's inactive. I rebooted earlier today, and it sent. I came back a few hours later, tried to send, no deal. Rebooted. Still couldn't send. Just tried to send again, to get a copy of the error message to post here? And it sent. It's the same error message other people have posted here - but I haven't done any updates, or changed anything. It says it can't send via that server, and to try one of these others, and gives me a drop-down box that doesn't include the gmail server, only the .mac server that I don't have access to. We did lose our internet connection this morning for about an hour, but we've done that in the past and it hasn't screwed up Mail. Mail was running during the internet loss. (I leave it running pretty much all the time.) I still receive mail fine, it's just sending that's being intermittent.
I'm on a Powermac G4 (AGP Graphics) (also maybe known as a Sawtooth), wireless connection via an airport, DSL modem. 500Mhz processor. Running 10.4.5.

Hi,
I have a GMail account as well and sometimes it refuses to send, but I have found out that this is normally due to Gmail problems, rather than Mail itself. On the other hand, if you push Gmail's limits (by sending and receiving too fast) they may block your account for "a few minutes", thus causing the timeout.
When Mail shows you a list of servers, you better say "try again later". It just means that it couldn't connect to the server or the server refused the connection; either way, it's giving you the chance to pick up another server. If you don't do that (try again later), he'll keep trying.
Gmail is a little bit nasty sometimes with POP/SMTP access; it works fine most of the time, but I have come across days where timeouts occur. I don't know if you're in the US of A or outside (I am in Europe) but the "distance" may have something to do too, and given that you're using a Wi-Fi connection, it all sums to the possible cause of Timeout.
POst the error if you'd like for me to see a more detailed Mail log, maybe I can spot something unusual.
Good Luck!

  • Issues with Mail and SMTP and Gmail Accounts

So this isn't a question....more like a solution that I had to figure out.
We have multiple gmail accounts in our family and after upgrading to OSC Yosemite our gmail accounts wen't haywire.  My wife was sending emails that eventually were sent from my gmail account (mass neighborhood emails at that.....and all replies came to me instead of her).  I spent about 2 hours investigating and put together several different threads that finally fixed out problem.  The root of the issue is that you can share the same Incoming Mail Server for all of your gmail accounts and your mail will go to the accounts that it is supposed to go to, but you have to have individual Outgoing Mail Servers for each of your accounts otherwise all outgoing mail will come from one account only.  I don't know why this happened, it is a pain in the butt, but here's how I fixed it with 3 gmail accounts running through 1 mac.
1st - you need to remove all of your gmail accounts from mail via Internet Accounts in Settings. Just highlight the account and hit the minus sign at the bottom.  You won't lose anything if you have your gmail settings set to default which backs everything up to Google's servers....it will all load back to you mac and it will all be available online at gmail.com
2nd - you need to add back all of your accounts one at a time (and follow all of the following steps for each account before adding another).  Select the plus sign and choose Google (for gmail accounts only).
3rd - Give your gmail account a recognizable name in the "Name" field (if you have multiple Gmail accounts to add, you will want to distinguish between them).
4th - type in your username ([email protected]) and password.  Make sure to add the suffix @gmail.com.
5th - Check the boxes that you want to add to your mac (mail, contacts, calendars, messages, notes).
6th - Click the "Details" button to ensure that you have an adequate description (see # 3 above) if you are going to have multiple gmail accounts to add.
7th - Open the Mail app.
8th - From Mail Preferences/Account Information Tab - make sure that you account is Enabled (check box next to "Enable Account", make sure that you have an adequate description name, email address is correct, Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com, Username is your normal gmail login username (absent any suffix like .gmail.com), password is your gmail password.
9th - Then, from Preferences click on the Advanced tab and....Uncheck "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".
10th - Then, go back to Account Information Tab and.....from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown box, select Edit SMTP List....
11th -  You need to create an individual SMTP Server Account for each gmail account that you plan to add.
12th - To do this click the plus button.  Server Name should always be smtp.gmail.com.  Type in your own Description (I recommend naming it after the gmail account that you plan to attach it to).
13th - TLS Certificate should be "None"
14th - Click the Advanced Tab - From here, uncheck the box for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".  Then make sure Port is 587 (default is 25 for some ungodly reason).  Check the box for "Use SSL".
15th - Set authentication to "Password".  User name MUST contain a suffice (i.e [email protected]).  Password is your normal gmail password.
    16th - Click OK.
17th - Now your back at Preferences/Account Information - Link your account to the SMTP server that you just created by using the dropdown box next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
18th - Save all changes and close out of Mail App.
19th - Restart Mail and recheck steps 8-15....for some reason my passwords kept getting erased, but they eventually saved and took.
20th - Add another gmail account by following these steps and then recheck all along the way for passwords, suffixes, everything.  You will want to make sure that your accounts are all properly linked to their respective Outgoing Mail Servers (hence the distinct naming descriptions).
21st - Once you have added multiple accounts send email between them to make sure that they are being sent from and received to the correct accounts.

Wow! Oh my goodness Patrick, thank you so much man. That's a ton of informatiion to take the time to write out step by step and share with strangers.  I really, really am grateful to you.  I've been dealing with this for a month, half the month I kept changing my passwords and kept assuming I was making some mistake.  It used to work fine.  About a week ago I started looking for a solution and couldn't find one that worked.
You have changed that sir!  I'm good to go, stress level will lower when I am on my Mac, and I'm so glad to not have all these messages popping back up that I was done with!
Muchos Gracias Amigo!  Owe you one...

  • Local domain, IIS Hosting and SMTP issues.

I have a local domain on Windows server 2012 with dns, dhcp, iis and smtp. (Yes, I am aware of the dangers of these combinations) it is for learning purposes only and not my main pc.
My local domain is willow.run and I am hosting a website, the domain for that is machinerylubricant.com I have IIS 8 installed (6.0 also for smtp)
My original issue was getting IIS to send an email to localhost through a php script for a contact form hosted on the website. I finally got to where it appears to be sending the contact form info to my drop folder but I ahve no idea how to get that .EML
file to actually forward to gmail account or even outlook on my computer/server.
In the email file (.eml in drop folder) it says "To: *******@gmail.com" as it is supposed to but that email is not making it to the specified gmail account. Also no error messages in the ph logs or the log files for smtp. How would I go about setting
up a email program to work on the lan with the acual www domain name I own?
I am learning everything at once basically, windows server, coding, protocols etc. Please bare with me.

Rather than answer your specific question, how about I give you the best way to achieve what you're looking for?
For inbound messages, you want to use the "aliasdetourhost" keyword. Check the documentation for how this is set up.
For outbound messages, you want to use the "alternate conversion channel"
When used together, this will achieve what you're looking for, without the looping that you have generated....
The alternate conversion channel was written up here:

  • SMTP issues for ports 25, 993 and 995

I recently became suspicious that I wasn't getting mail addressed to [email protected] or [email protected] and I have become even more suspicious the past couple of days when I have received email in my Mail account on the iPod Touch but those emails never came to Mail or MobileMe on my laptop.
In Terminal when I type telnet.smtp.mac.com 25 it tries 17.148.16.33 and connects to smtp.mac.com and I get the same result with me.com. However, when I try port 993 or 995 I get "Trying 17.148.16.33...." and it never finishes.
By contrast, telnet smtp.gmail.com tries 74.125.159.109 and connects to gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com with 25 and 993 and 995

I would appreciate any help you could give me...are there obvious discrepancies in my settings and changes I need to make?
Would using Google DNS numbers help?
I have a "grandfathered" .mac address as I joined in 2005. Since new subscribers are assigned .me addresses are there things I can/should do to get rid of any .mac "remnants" which might be screwing things up?
Thank you in advance for your help
Don't know if this is related but I undated my Airport Express firmware a couple of weeks ago. Mediacom provides me with an Arris TM602G modem.

    Hello,
I have created a new thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2755782 (Using Greek Characters in Folder naming possible?) in order not to disrupt the flow of this thread.
It seems that only two persons with greek origin and OSX server are posting in Apple DIscussion - this is why I contacted you this way.
The sharepoints are in Latin Characters - the sub folders are in Greek and only users other than the Server admin have this issue ...
... the Characters change from uppercase to lowercase and the user is 'thrown' to the previous directory structure level - thus cannot access the subfolder.
When I changed the name of the subfolder to latin characters it worked.
It is not a major issue, but it is very annoyng especially if you have to change to greeklish Names of clients....
Thanks for your prompt reply, Kostas.

  • 2 step verification settings for outgoing MAIL SMTP for GMail

and i am in the outgoing SMTP > ADVANCED section of mail where i have an iCloud, GMail and domain based email SMTP addresses.
does anyone know if i set up a SMTP server for Mac Mail as having an authentication set to "none" or set to "password" for GMAIL and whether this password should be one of these online generated 2 step verification passwords?
i seem to have this account on sparrow with no problems at all but i am noticing that GMail mail is not showing up on either of my mac mail installations on either of my machines

    Hi Hotwheels
had similar issues. But incoming worked fine immediately, only outgoing was an issue.
(Though on iPad + iPhone both in- and out-going mails worked fine.)
I generated a password via Google only ONCE for may Mail app. And I entered it only ONCE in the settings. No other changes done.
So on the Mail application, I saw e-mails coming in. My outgoing e-mail stayed in my "outbox".
I just switched to another outgoing server. In my case, when I opened the advanced settings, a popup screen showed up with a number (approx 10) outgoing servers, all named exactly the same: "Gmail" ;-)
The one that was selected had the message "off-line" behind it and so were a couple of others.
As soon as I picked one that was apparently on-line, the mails in my outbox were send within seconds ...
So problem solved without actually really changing settings or entering paswords.
    Hope this helps

  • Another SMTP issue w/ mail.app from a newbie (works on iPhone & other Mac)

I've recently switch from PC to a new iMac 27" QC i5 with 10.6.2 and Mail 4.2. Thursday, March 18th to be exact. I set up my mail.app that night and everything was peachy until Tuesday, March 23rd. I can receive just fine. Just can't send. The SMTP server is listed as Offline.
On the other hand, I can successfully send and receive mail with the exact pop/smtp settings on my iPhone 3G and my PC. Gmail works fine on mail.app too. I've called my webhost 3xs and Apple 3xs. My ISP is not blocking the ports. I've used about every variable possible and tried using Thunderbird as well. Everything works fine with Gmail but not my web host. My gut says it's something somewhere within the computer. Hosts files, etc. I don't know. What convinces me of this is that I had my friend set up my email account on his mac and everything worked as normal. He was able to send and receive, yet I still couldn't.
Any ideas? I wanted to ask before I was forced to reistall the OS.
Apple has had me delete the mail folder in Library, delete the plist file, etc. This has to be somewhere else.
Thanks in advance for any tips, help or guidance.

Same exact problem for me! I can send through my SMTP server with no issues from my iPod Touch & Windows devices but on both iMacs (Mail 4.2 (1077)) I cannot send.
Have been on the phone multiple times with my ISP but no luck. Have tried hard setting ports, turning on SSL, deleting and recreating the account, verifying my password isn't locked and nothing.
There is no other explanation with the other devices working. This must be a client issue.

  • Upgraded to Lion, now Apple Mail no longer sends via SMTP to GMAIL

Greetings! First and foremost, THANK YOU for reading this discussion.  I truly appreciate any and all assistance. Being one who likes to exhaust all resources before posting, I have literally spent that last 7 and a half hours reading pages and pages of threads here, on Google Forums along with finding other data across the net.
The problem started immediately upon the LION upgrade.   Everything worked fine until the upgrade and then BOOM...no more Apple Mail sending to Gmail SMTP server.  I can receive Gmail just fine, but no can send. When a message is sent, after a long while, an error message pops up stating that the SMTP server is "off line."  Obviously it is timing out.
I have confirmed the settings in Preferences.  I have cleaned the hard drive (running the internal First Aid app).  I confirmed the password was correct in KeyChain.  I have tried a lot of corrective methods as stated in the threads.
I have tried using different ports (25, 465, 587).  I have set the connection from smtp.gmail.com to actual IP addresses including the following:
    209.85.227.109
    74.125.91.109
    74.125.39.16
    74.125.157.109
    74.125.113.109
    173.194.68.109
I tried it with and without TLS/SSL enabled.
    With authentication and without.
I even tried to telnet from the Mac to smtp.gmail.com without success.  (I can telnet from a Windows machine though...OUCH)
I am NOT running LION OS X server, just plain old LION OS 10.8.2 on my MacBrook Pro.
Thank you in advance for any and all courtesies extended.  Looking to resume using Apple Mail with my Gmail account ASAP.
    Sincerely,
    MWG2

Thanks Lanny...tried it...still doesn't work.  Called Apple Support...switched to Tier 2 support person Chris P. Was on the phone with him for 2 hours and 38 minutes...we tried everything under the sun...still can't get to smtp.gmail.com...can't even telnet to it from Mac.  We did network testing too...he thought my router was blocking ports 25, 465 & 587 but the router wasn't. After exhausting every concievable MAC setting, trying a number or solutions, killing the account and re-installing multiple times, his conclusion is that there is a third party software "blocking" the send in gmail...ummmmm...makes no sense to me as everything worked perfectly until I upgraded to OS X. Hence his solution is for me to take my Mac to the Apple Store and have them look at it.  My solution?  Don't use mail on the Mac and keep using Mail on my Windows machine.  I prefer Mac, but I have now spent over the last two days in excess of 10 hours on this problem...it's not supposed to be this difficult. Lesson Learned...if something's working, DON'T goof with it...Apple Mail under Snow Leopard worked perfectly...upgraded to Mt. LION (paid for it) and now I am really paying the price for doing that.

  • POP and SMTP issues

I am wondering whether anyone might have a solution to this problem. I recently changed servers for my website which means I have to set up my personal account in Mac mail.
I have entered the POP details and password correctly and the same with SMTP. The connection doctor informed me they cannot connect and to check my user name and password. Looking at this posting below I unchecked authentication and, after that, it did connect to the SMTP. But, sadly "please check user name and password" is all I get for the POP.
I have doubled checked all the settings provided to me by my new server. I can access my servers Webmail and my mail is arriving in there. I have four other accounts set up in Mac Mail and no issues there.

Mail Help has some articles devoted to sending problems, e.g. “I can't send email” or “I can't send email because the connection to the server on port 25 timed out”. You may want to take a look at them in case there is something there that applies to you. Something that usually works if you’re trying to use an outgoing (SMTP) server different from the one provided by your ISP (and in the case of .Mac in particular) is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25 in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings. On the other hand, if the outgoing server that doesn’t work is the one provided by your ISP, the problem could be that you’re telling Mail to authenticate, but the outgoing server doesn’t actually require authentication because it can determine who you are by other means.

not knowing your hosting service or if your doing it yourself (your own servers)
see if this link can provide you some addtional information as to settings etc

  • Fixing the Sender SMTP issue

    Hello,
I'm dealing with a security issue in BO XI 3.0 (I think it's the same with previous version) .When you send a document via email and if you uncheck the default settings, you can enter any email address into the "From" Field. Even your CEO's address. The only condition is that this address exists in the SMTP directory.
After looking on the forum, it's seems that it can't be fixed with any CMC settings. So I'm trying to secure it via the SDK. Does anyone has already done this before?
I have 2 ideas, could you tell me which one seems the better for you ?
When the "send email" form is populated, the idea is to retrieve the email of the connected user and fill the "From" field with it.
During the form validation, there is a javascript function called checkSMTP ( ). This function checks that the "from" field is filled. Maybe could I check that the email address filled in the field is the same than the email address of the user connected?
What do you think of those solution? Feasibility? Risk ? Security?
    Any help will be nice.
    Pierre

I would suggest, if you have support, to open a SAP Incident and get clarification on why the behavior is inconsistent.
One of the dangers in modifying InfoView is that it's just not designed to be modified, and modifications will likely break with a new service pack (i.e., not something you'd want to move forward with).
    Sincerely,
    Ted Ueda

  • SMTP Issues - Apple Mail - VERY ANNOYING !

    So.
On my iPhone I can connect to my office server, send mail no problem, using port 587, the server address, SSL turned on, with the proper credentials for username and password. When I try to mimic this using the same information on my client end of things, all I get with Apple Mail is the "Connecting to server <xxx.xxx.xxx>" OVER AND OVER AND OVER in the Activity window. All of the ports are properly configured on the router, firewall, etc.. as I am able to send using that SAME SERVER with my phone, and iPad. What gives ? I am pulling my hair out trying to sort this out as it is very frustrating. On the mail server side of things (Kerio Connect) really nothing had changed on the server setup for outgoing mail, and  SMTP (port 25, 587, 465) services are configured and ready to go using authentication.
If ANYONE has an information on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Is this a timeout issue ? Is it a handshake issue with the server ? A bit stumped for ideas at this point. Thanks in advance.
    I am running 10.7.2 - Mail v5.1 I get the same behaviour on a laptop running 10.6.8
    Jeff.

One simple, no-risk thing to try is to click on your various mailboxes while in Mail, and do a Mailbox > Rebuild from the menu for each one.

  • SMTP for GMAIL

We recently switched from our old mail server to GMAIL, and all of my scheduled Crystal Reports died.  Can anyone, PLEASE, tell me what I need to put in the Email (SMTP) Destination fields to make it work again?  I have been getting an SMTP_E_TCPSOCKET_OPEN(2) error.  We are using Crystal version XI.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am new to the Crystal implementaion, so be direct with your responses..."put '25' in the PORT field"  That kind of thing. • SMTP issue

    Hi all,
We had a issue where when we maintain the mail host name we were receiving mails very delayed.Whereas when we place the IP address we receiving on time. Now the question is that does SAP directly connect to mail host server using SMTP plugin or else does it go via the OS.How does the communication happen.Ours is a ECC 6 system.

When we keep the smtp host in scot how does the connection happen. Does SAP directly connect to smtp host or else it goes via OS.
This is very basic... if the mail host is registered on the DNS it will resolve the hostname without having to add an entry in your host file (of the SAP Server) otherwise you'll have to populate one... In anycase if the connection is happening (but with a delay) is most likely not an issue with the IP/Hostname.
Also, handshake happens directly from SAP to the SMTP Server using Relay
Check if theres a time difference between the 2 boxes.

  • STRANGE POP/SMTP ISSUES

I have four accounts that I maintain in Mail. I have one for school, one Yahoo!, one Gmail, and one .mac account. As of last Friday I can only connect with my school email when I am on the campus network.
I have asked others if they have noticed this change and they have not. I asked a Res-Tech if there had been some sort of security added; and he said there was not, nor had he heard of anyone else having this problem.
I did install Cache X Out, Omni Disk Sweeper, and Quicksilver. Could a setting on one of those be keeping me from connecting to any account that does not match my network connection?
Thank you in advance for your help with this!
    Jason
    17" G4 1Ghz Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Ernie,
Thank you for the response, and sorry for not clarifying the POP/SMTP heading. My mail account works fine sending and receiving. The Yahoo!, Gmail, and .mac accounts do not send or recieve. Their names are gray in the inbox and their symbol is the exclamation point in a triangle. My school account is black. When I hit 'Check Mail' I get the progress symbol on all of them, but only the school account retrieves/sends mail.
When I click on the exclamation sign (example: Yahoo) I get:
    Connection Failed
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "Yahoo!" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The server "pop.mail.yahoo.com" refused to allow a connection on port 110.
Then my two buttons are STAY OFFLINE or GO ONLINE.
I am already online, my internet works, and my school account works. That is why I was thinking that there might be some quirky setting that only allows emails from an address that matches the network. All four accounts worked on Wednesday, and then did not work on Friday.
    I am stumped.
    Thanks again,
    Jason

when VRF and ZBF are removed and port is assigned to public or the OUT zone, both ports works:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/2
    no ip vrf forwarding ABC
    no zone-member security ABC
    zone-member security OUT
    ip address 203.x.x.x 255.255.255.248

    Hello John,
    My pleasure to help,
    U can then use the
show logging | include x.x.x.x (IP being used on the communication to find the cause of the issue, it will always point why this is failing, that's the greatest thing about ZBFW)
Any other question u can let me know

  • E65 smtp issue ?

    Hello,
Just got this new mobile this week, just great product. My 6260 was getting old. SIP working with VoipBuster, fring as well, iskoot coming soon over Wlan.
Just this glitch, I'm able to receive emails but sending some is not working. I'm getting:
EDIT: foreign language section removed - Damocles
[email protected]". I know the settings are right as I could see the smtp log on my email server but it's like there is an issue with our antispam checker.
How could I see the header created by my E65 ? because my antispam reports the following:
64854240 'MyWlanIP' to: 'Emailxyz' malformed address: '"Francois L"
    Thanks for your support,
    Best regards,
    Francois

Happy to be not the only one we will see what can be done.
At least the settings are right as pop is working and smtp reached the server, but there is something wrong on my server checking too much the header and telling me the email is malformed. So what I would like to see, it's the header generated by the E65 to see if it's RFC compliant or if the bug is on my mail server.
    Later,
    Francois
