SMTP & Keychain

Hi ALL,
As the titel says ...
I have in Mavericks 10.9.1 problems to sent mail in Mail application.
After reading many internet solutions I like to try to trash the SMPT file in Keychain, but I can not find it ... What is the name of it?
Also when I try to FIRST AID Keychain I'll get a error message ...
Do I have to solve the issue with Keychain First Aid first befor I delete the SMPT file in Keychain.
Thank you for yor time ...

Hi ALL,
I solved the SMTP Offline issue ...
I did delete all account in Mail except icloud.
Than I created a new account ... did not accepted because I setup the same name ... I switch that to type my lastname first en my first name as last.
Than Mail confugiration setup the NEW MAIL account and a new "SMTP" connection with the provider.
Finally I can SENT MAIL again.
This means that my old account I used many years was corrupted in a way, maybe getting corrupted after I installed Mavericks 10.9. Before I never hat any trouble with Mail.
Hope for a lot of users that this theyre solution to to sent mail again.

  • Offline/outgoing server issues - delete SMTP keychain entries?

does anyone know if it is worthwhile deleting various entries in my keychain for SMTP server items and if so is there anything i need to save?
i need to try and isolate some email problems but i cannot tell if this is a valid troubleshooting step and if so what i am supposed to save.
i have 15 accounts on 2 different devices so i would like to avoid re-setting up (for like the 50th time) all my email accounts.
    TIA

I'm having same issue.  Works on my old Mountain lion machine...same settings and Ipad

  • SMTP issue in Keychain

    Hello
Yesterday I set up 4 identical email accounts on my ISP (BTInternet)
Today, one of the accounts won't send - it's marked as offline.
I've been through the "Accounts Info" list at the bottom of the left sidebar, and I've been through the accounts themselves.
Each is set up to use SSL on outbound mail, but one SMTP entry is offline.
When I look in the Keychain, all the other accounts have smtp://mail.btinternet.com:465
The broken account has smtp://mail.btinternet.com  (no port number)
I've tried adding the port number into the keychain entry - it disappears.
I've tried deleting the keychain entry, going back into mail, forcing the port to 465 and typing in the password, and back in Keychain, the 465 is missing.
I'm so close to fixing it, but I'm stuck!
Any idea what I can do?
    Thanks
    Derek

    I've fixed it...
Turns out I had TWO entries in the keychain for this SMTP - one with the 465 and one without.
Finally, I managed to delete the more recent entry with mail STILL RUNNING, then I quit mail and restarted it. Now it's using the old entry, and order is restored to the universe :-)

    Hi
You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password.  Some do, but many do not.  When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.
    Good luck

  • Keychain Issue with Entourage SMTP password or port attribute

I am posting this under Using OS X rather than Mail since I do not
use Apple's Mail. The problem is the Microsoft Entourage or something
may be sending bad information to the OS X keychain and this prevents me
from sending mail to my ATT/Yahoo account. The workaround I have
been using to send mail is use the OS X Keychain First Aid repair.
After the repair Entourage will send the message one or two times then
I get the following Keychain verification error note:
Item “pop.att.yahoo.com” has unspecified value for port attribute
Item “smtp.att.yahoo.com” has unspecified value for port attribute
Problems were found; you should choose the Repair option to fix them
    Verification failed.
The Repair option corrects the problem until the next message is
sent. I have done everything I can think of to the Entourage v12.1.7
settings and something is still not right.
I am beginning to suspect a Keychain bug or error but have no idea
how to get the correct attribute written to the keychain.
Maybe someone could provide some terminal commands to the will
help me write the correct password and port attribute to the keychain.
I am open to any suggestions to clear being nagged every time I
need to send a message to enter my password. The POP mail works
fine. This seems to be an issue with the password that is required
    by the ATT/Yahoo smtp server.

If you are sure your primary account is setup correct (per the above URLs), open
the Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.app and go to Keychain Access/Keychain
First Aid and click on the Verify and Repair if necessary.
FYI, Entourage will write errors to the keychain if you have the account setup wrong.
My error (that cause the keychain errors) was I typed in the my ID and password in
the smtp option. Check the box to use the received and do NOT type in the address.
When you save the settings with nothing in the boxes, Entourage will do it for you
    and it will work.
I don't know why but it will not work if you type in the info. Just follow the rules
    and it will work
    Try It!!

  • Impossible to delete POP accounts from iCloud keychain and SMTP not working

    Hello,
After an aborted Mavericks clean install, I reverted to Mountain Lion via Time Machine and started experimenting with iCloud Keychain on Mavericks using trashable Virtual Machines.
I am hitting two serious problems with email accounts :
    1. I turned on iCloud keychain ONLY on my Mavericks test installs (not on my iOS device)
    2. First time I turned it on and used my usual AppleID, the test install retrieved all my email accounts (I have many of all types)
    3. I could not make password SMTPS work on any IMAP accounts, so I decided to delete ALL email accounts from my iCloud Keychain
    4. When you ask to delete an email account, it asks if you want to delete it from ALL your accounts, whoch is what I did (make a clean slate)
    5. Of all the accounts I have, I have two old disabled POP3 accounts. I deleted them as every other one (including FB, Twitter, LinkedIN, Exchange, ...)
Every time I set up a new test install with iCloud keychain enabled, these two POP accounts continue to show up on the list.
Every time I delete them again from ALL keychains they disappear, but anytime I launch Mail they come back, and if I delete them again, and then I add a new email account they come back.
No way to delete them from ALL keychains
And BTW user/password SMTP on SSL for IMAP accounts does not work for me. It fails all the times on my postfix server.
    So, my issues are :
    - iCloud keychains seems unstable with email accounts (probably with POP accounts only)
    - SMTP over SSL with user/password doesn't seem to work
Anybody hit the issue ? For me is a severe showstopper for Mavericks and iCloud keychains
    Best
    Luca

Restore it as new.  Why wouldn't you do that when purchasing a used device from another individual?

  • Macbook Pro Cannot Connect to SMTP

I am running a 2010 MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.8.  I use Mac Mail app to send and receive e-mail.  Since Thursday 27th Dec 2012 I have been unable to send e-mail.  I get the grey spinning wheel until the following error message appears:
The SMTP connection to server “mail.(mydomain).co.uk” failed.
My outgoing mail server is currently showing as offline.  In fact I have 2 e-mail accounts and both are showing as offline.  No problem receiving mail.  Connection doctor connects fine to incoming mail, but not outgoing.
I have tried the following (plus other things) without any success:
Checked all the details, passwords etc
Changed ports from 25 to 465 and 587
Checked my IP address - it is not blacklisted
    Removed and re-added e-mail account
Telnet port 25 - it is not blocked, but appeared to successfully connect (from what I understood from checking www)
    Temporarily disabled firewall
    Re-installed Mac app
    Rebuilt mailbox
    Repaired disk permissions
    Used the repair disk utility
Deselected SSL and changed various options within "Edit SMTP server list"
    Reset the keychain
Tried updating software but it says no update available.
Re-instated an old Accounts.plist (and one other file which I forget, something like com.apple.mail) from time capsule.
I then set up a hotmail account on Mail app but had exactly the same problem, ie cannot connect with SMTP server.
However, I set up my e-mail account on my wife's iPad with the same details and there was no problem at all, e-mail sent just fine as it does from my iPhone.  So the issue has to be with my Macbook, right?  Can anyone help before I go and spent £1250 on a new Macbook?  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just FYI, I've had the same problem for months now. I have been accessing my hotmail via the web, but decided to try the OS X Mail app.  I could get emails into the account with no problem but couldn't send.  I read all the blog and support entries and have tried everything they recommended, like changing my computer name to one word, without success.  Then last night, it just so happened that my broadband provider had to change out my wireless modem.  As soon as he plugged in the new one, some emails that had been in my outbasket for a month went through instantly and all of a sudden my Mail, both incoming and outgoing now work.  So I think people need to look at their router settings for the a solution to the problem.

  • Cannot connect to smtp sever in Mail or Eudora

    Hi All,
I've been reading the forums all afternoon and although there are a lot of similar problems none exactly like mine (or, no solutions that fixed mine!) After a hard drive failure I'm trying to set up Mail with my godaddy account. I can receive, but not send. In the activity window there are two spinning barber poles:
Delivering message (connecting to server "smtp.secureserver.net")
Checking account (connecting to server "smtp.secureserver.net")
But after a short time a third message blinks something about "writing to disk." It doesn't last long enough to read the details.
I tried the "perfect godaddy settings" I found in another thread but they didn't work. And then (and I suppose this is significant) I gave up and switched to Eudora and the same thing happened- I can receive but not send.
    Any suggestions?

OK, I discarded the reference to the network as well as the half dozen or so smtp servers I've tried over the course of the day. I still can't change the network (airport) password. I type in the new one and get the message NetCfg wants permission to change access permissions of item PPP Password in your keychain" If I click allow, it goes back to what it was. EEEK!
And I still can't send email - same thing, can't connect to SMTP server.
Suppose I just chuck all this and upgrade to leopard (which I was thinking of doing when my hard drive crashed.) Will all these troublesome settings remain or can I start anew?

  • Apple Mail account suddenly offline, smtp offline

    iMac 27" (late 2009) updated to Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10 and Apple Mail 8.0 (1990.1) 17th October 2014.
Mail accounts in Apple Mail where working as years before until Yesterday, 3th November 2014. Suddenly 2 out of 3 accounts where offline showing the warning triangle icon on the right. Command "go online" and "syncronize" has no effect. Activity in Mail is showing no try to connect. Looking into the account config I see that the SMTP are "offline".
I checked everything and compared to the settings of the one account which is still normal working. Everything is identically set up. Only differences are the domain names, username and pwd. The domain names are on the same external virtual hosts and have same configs. The on the iMac faulty accounts are working on iPad and iPhone like ever and from the same internal network. My hardware firewall or the external mailserver can not be the reason.
I deleted 1) SMTP config, 2) whole mail account, 3) all corresponding keys in keychain and was setting up from new. No chance, they show SMTP offline and do not go online in IMAP. Next was trying to give account #1 the SMTP from the working #3. The SMTP #3 shows fine but near the inbox of account #1 i have again the warning triangle. No go online, no sync, no action in the activity window.
I go setting up Mail with these accounts in a new user. Mail was totally empty as I started config of two accounts. After doing all they where at the same point. No connection possible.
Why is this happend suddenly and after more than 2 weeks after Yosmite update? Why is one account working, two others not anymore?

Sorry, just found the details. Here we go:

  • Upgraded to Lion, now Apple Mail no longer sends via SMTP to GMAIL

Greetings! First and foremost, THANK YOU for reading this discussion.  I truly appreciate any and all assistance. Being one who likes to exhaust all resources before posting, I have literally spent that last 7 and a half hours reading pages and pages of threads here, on Google Forums along with finding other data across the net.
The problem started immediately upon the LION upgrade.   Everything worked fine until the upgrade and then BOOM...no more Apple Mail sending to Gmail SMTP server.  I can receive Gmail just fine, but no can send. When a message is sent, after a long while, an error message pops up stating that the SMTP server is "off line."  Obviously it is timing out.
I have confirmed the settings in Preferences.  I have cleaned the hard drive (running the internal First Aid app).  I confirmed the password was correct in KeyChain.  I have tried a lot of corrective methods as stated in the threads.
I have tried using different ports (25, 465, 587).  I have set the connection from smtp.gmail.com to actual IP addresses including the following:
    209.85.227.109
    74.125.91.109
    74.125.39.16
    74.125.157.109
    74.125.113.109
    173.194.68.109
I tried it with and without TLS/SSL enabled.
    With authentication and without.
I even tried to telnet from the Mac to smtp.gmail.com without success.  (I can telnet from a Windows machine though...OUCH)
I am NOT running LION OS X server, just plain old LION OS 10.8.2 on my MacBrook Pro.
Thank you in advance for any and all courtesies extended.  Looking to resume using Apple Mail with my Gmail account ASAP.
    Sincerely,
    MWG2

Thanks Lanny...tried it...still doesn't work.  Called Apple Support...switched to Tier 2 support person Chris P. Was on the phone with him for 2 hours and 38 minutes...we tried everything under the sun...still can't get to smtp.gmail.com...can't even telnet to it from Mac.  We did network testing too...he thought my router was blocking ports 25, 465 & 587 but the router wasn't. After exhausting every concievable MAC setting, trying a number or solutions, killing the account and re-installing multiple times, his conclusion is that there is a third party software "blocking" the send in gmail...ummmmm...makes no sense to me as everything worked perfectly until I upgraded to OS X. Hence his solution is for me to take my Mac to the Apple Store and have them look at it.  My solution?  Don't use mail on the Mac and keep using Mail on my Windows machine.  I prefer Mac, but I have now spent over the last two days in excess of 10 hours on this problem...it's not supposed to be this difficult. Lesson Learned...if something's working, DON'T goof with it...Apple Mail under Snow Leopard worked perfectly...upgraded to Mt. LION (paid for it) and now I am really paying the price for doing that.

  • I can no longer send using SMTP

I had 4 pop email boxes (godaddy email boxes), 4 gmail and 1 yahoo pro account in my MAC mail.
I did not have a problem receiving any of them.
Then one day I had to change all my passwords. I reset all the passwords, and tested them all on web based browsers. I then reset all the passwords on my blackberry.
Next I went to my mac mail and reset all the passwords. I was able to recieve all my mail. Then after one thing led to another, all of the SMTP accounts went down. It kept saying that the password was rejected, even if I opted to click the radio button to save the password. So I disabled all the SMTP accounts except for one, and tried each one individually. They all failed on me. I called go daddy tech support, they had me try various server settings, and ports. They advised that it might be a network setting. I have no firewall other than the linksys wireless router up. There are no settings that have changed since prior to this going down. I have no advanced settings on my router as well, preventing outgoing SMTP mail.
When I called godaddy they suggested I re-create all of the POP mail boxes. I also upgraded my accounts on godaddy to IMAP, as part of a package deal to save money on all the deluxe boxes. So I recreated all of the POP boxes, and moved the several thousand emails to new mailboxes "ON my MAC" as the area states.
I am still unable to send after re-creating the new POP/IMAP SMTP Godaddy and or gmail or yahoo PRO accounts.
I am quite frustrated, and dont want to have to reinstall LEOPARD. I dont know much about resetting the keychains, but I went in and did a search in my keychain application, and deleted anything holding the keywords "SMTP".
Please help me out. I have many emails I need to respond back to, right away!

I have the same issue - it worked once, then the error pop-ups keep coming asking for the same darn password I gave it and saved 100 times before. Anyone else find a solution? I use my earthlink for outgoing and that works but would rather use godaddy since I pay for it.

  • Having problem with gmail smtp server.  Since going to google 2-step, and entering 16-digit code in gmail account, I can receive mail on my iMac, but cannot send.  What do I do?

Having problem with gmail smtp outgoing server.  Since going to google 2-step, and entering 16-digit code in gmail account, I can receive mail on my iMac, but cannot send.  I keep getting an error message that Mail "Cannot send message using Gmail (my assigned name) server."  What do I do?

    Confirm you did this: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en
You might also try removing all gmail passwords from your keychain in Keychain Access. Then connect again and enter the password code given by Google.

  • 1. Mail update for v.2.1.3 for Tiger  2. OS10.5 3. SMTP server intermittent

    1. Is there any Mail update for OS 10.4.11 users beyond v. 2.1.3?
    2. Is there any version of OS 10.5 (Leopard) installable on G4s described below? I know OS 10.5.6 needs a faster processor so cannot be installed.
    3. MAIN QUESTION: I have concluded after months of apparent SMTP server problems that the cause lies with neither my main ISP (ATT-Uverse) nor with the 2 email accounts we have a local dial-up/DSL ISP now owned by Cincinnati Bell from which we POP and send (SMTP) server. ATT-Uverse has approved, and disabled filters to prevent, this unusual practice for one of their customers to use a 3rd party's SMTP server and the Cinbell firm also has no problem.
Nevertheless, multiple times a day, my password is refused and 'Mail Connection Doctor' reports that 'trying to log into this SMTP account failed.' The result is that I can only send mail to addresses in the same mail domain ['@name.type']. Both ISPs, however, report that all my settings are correct, are working, are pingable, etc. Sometimes just quitting and restarting Mail clears up the problem for a while. Anyway for many months and many reasons, I always assumed the problem lay with the ISP or with connections between my computers & the POP & SMTP Mail serving ISP. This ISP sent a technical manager to my location who set up a PC computer using Outlook with _my settings_ and with an ethernet connection to my ATT-Uverse Router. He had no problem using Outlook for sending or receiving test messages.
So after much effort by various IT technical support staff from two different ISPs, I am forced to think that the problem while described as the SMTP server's refusal to accept my established passwork is really internal to Mail v.2.1.3 and the settings I have to use. In this case, to enable SMTP service on Port 25, I do need to use extended authentication (i.e. full email address in one field and password in another.
Has this issue been reported by others and is there a fix or workaround. I would prefer to continue using Apple's Mail client & to use POP mail rather than another client or a ;cloud; connection like Google Mail.
    Thanks.

It'll run fine, you just can't Install it... LOL
There are a couple of workarounds though, installing it on a fast enough PPC Mac to an External Firewire Drive, or editing the check for that CPU Speed, but you'll have to search for, like....

Hmmm, I don't think I've ever read of anyone having more problems than ATT!?

    Hmmmm,
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

Drag this file to the desktop and reboot...

  • Mail SMTP (outgoing) does not work after Yosemite upgrade

I have just updated Yosemite on my Mac and MacBook Air and the outgoing mails cannot be sent - the SMTP-connection fails.
It worked fully Ok few seconds before the upgrade was started.
So, I wonder if anyone or Apple can help on getting the Outgoing mails to work again.

For those of you having email password issues, I'd suggest:
    1) Close your mail client (i.e. Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc).
    2) Launch "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Keychain Access.app"
    3) Select "login" from the sidebar top left area, then select "Passwords" in lower left area
    4) Click into the Search box in the upper right and search for your ISPs server names.  For example, type "aol" or "google" or "comcast", etc.
    5) Look through the search results for password entries related to your SMTP (outgoing) or IMAP/POP (incoming) mail servers.  Select them and delete them.
    6) Open your email client and try to receive mail, and then to send mail.  You should be prompted to enter your mail username and/or password.
Hopefully this might fix issues for those of you using mail clients that use Keychain for credential storage.
