SMTP on windows xp

I am trying to connect to mail running on my xserve running os x server 10.6. I can send and receive from Apple mail on my macbook just fine. I can receive with windows live mail but when I try to send I get the following error.
Subject 'test'
Server Error: 504
Server Response: 504 5.5.2 <matte510>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname
Server: 'mail.******.org'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC79
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
my DNS for my domain is handled by my webhost. I also have DNS running on the xServe for computers in the building. is this a problem with my DNS on the xserve or my webhost?

Does your SMTP service run? (I guess it has a windows service. Test it manually with telnet localhost 25, HELO localhost; MAIL From: [email protected]; RCPT To: [email protected]; DATA; type in some test msg. (close it with enter .); QUIT [note you dont need to type ; it means new line])
Did you try to enter localhost as email server at EM console?

  • SMTP Server Windows Azure Cloud

    Hello everyone,
Currently intern at a BI company, I must implement a decision-making on a VM Windows Azure Cloud.
Since few days I am facing a problem.
I must implement an automatic email sending in the case of an error.
To do this, I need to specify an SMTP server.
When I'm local (on my machine), I have no problem, I use the SMTP server used my company.
Of course, the SMTP server of the company does not work in the Cloud.
Can you clarify me about this if you have some answers ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Best regards,
    Vivien

One suggestion may be to create a VPN between Azure and your environment, and use your local SMTP server for this.

  • SMTP Settings - Windows

I have a couple of Windows machines I need to connect to our OS X 10.10/4.0 Mail Server ("out of the box" setup, self-signed certificates).
They are using Outlook 2010 (Windows).  I can connect them to the IMAP (inbound) portion of Mail without a problem, but I need to know the settings for outbound (SMTP) settings. I have tried Auto, None, TLS, SSL, ports 25, 587, 993, 145, 2525, in multiple combinations ... all to no avail!!
    Thanks in advance.
    Ken

I got the same problem after upgraded from 10.9.5 to 10.10. Have to restore back to 10.9.5 from my Time Machine.
    Good luck!

  • What is the AT&T smtp server for? The SSL is set to "off"

I was looking around at my Mail settings on my iPhone and noticed there's an AT&T smtp server window. You access it my Settings/Mail Contacts Cal/one of your email accounts/SMTP server/. At the top is the smtp server for your email address which is on, and below are smtp server panes for your other email accounts which are set to off. But one of those smtp server panes is for the AT&T smtp. For what function is it used for? It's vreyed out but SSL set to OFF for the AT&T smtp and the Yahoo smtp, but all the other smtp's are set to ON for SSL.
Isn't it better for the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to be on? Why is Yahoo's and AT&T's set to OFF. I can't find where to access a non-greyed out AT&T's smtp window pane.

when sending/receiving via AT&T's cellular network, all data is encrypted over the network, which is a GSM standard.
Note that in the USA a weaker version of the GSM encryption is used than in Europe.
    http://www.gsm-security.net/faq/gsm-encryption-algorithm-a5-cipher.shtml
Also, the GSM encryption has been broken a long time ago, but someone whould have to sit between the phone and the basestation to capture and decode the traffic (or they must have access to the network operator's, so called, Legal Intercept interface).
    http://www.gsm-security.net/faq/gsm-a5-broken-security.shtml
And, AFAIK, the GSM encryption is only in use on the wireless connection between the device and the basestation it is connected to (not on the operator's backbone network, and not when the traffic exits the operator's network and goes to the Internet outside, which it must, in order to get to SMTP servers not in the operator's machine rooms).
And a last point: Even if you use SSL/TLS between the client and the SMTP server, it is not necessarily used from the SMTP server to the receiving email server (which might mean that the message travels through tens of systems unencrypted until it reaches its destination).

  • SMTP Email via Business Workplace

    Hello SAP Experts,
I am trying to send an email via SMTP (Internet Address) on the Business Workplace tool, but it is preventing me to do so saying "Invalid Recipient Address".
As a background, we have a Lotus Notes C3000 Fax System, such that when you send an email with an address as shown below, it will send it as a Fax.
Here is an example of the email address:
    "Temp[at]0041624543456#C3000#####FAX3[at]FCC-Fax"
Any idea how I can override this email address check on the Business Workplace/SAPConnect side?

    Hi
When you configure the SMTP access using SCOT. When you click on SMTP, a window would pop-up SAPConnect: General Node Data",  select "Set" at the "Fax" type.
In the Address Area. put * as the entry.

  • After a few hours Mail stop accepting SMTP out authentication and Cocoa 512 error

    Hi,
Running Mail 5.2 on OSX 10.7.4...
I think since upgrading to 10.7.4 Mail has been having a couple of odd problems.
After starting it runs for an hour or two then all my mail accounts refuse to send any mail. Connection Doctor says I'm connected to internet OK but no accounts are live.
The 'choose SMTP server' window comes up, but no alternative servers work.
Current emails can be saved as draft, though it doesn't appear to be working.
Sometime a force quite is required.
Additionally, when deleteing some emails, a Cocoa Error 512 message appears, can't delete this item.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Adam

  • Mail does not recognize outgoing server for Forwards or content other than text

Since installing Mountain Lion Mail has been erratic.  It generally will not send mail that I Forward nor will it send mail that includes links, graphics photos, etc.  It sends original mail consisting of text only without a problem.  When I try to Forward mail, or send new mail that includes content over and above text, I get the following result:
None of the options will send the mail.   If I “Try With Selected Server”, I go into an endless loop – click on it, get the same Cannot Send… window back.  “Try Later” merely puts the message into my Outbox where it sits – and sits.  It will sit there for days if I let it.  If I sooner or later try to send it, I get the above Cannot Send… window again.  If I “Edit the Message”it still will not send. The Connection Doctor tells me that the mail account is logged in and connected without a problem.  If I “Edit SMTP Server List” I get Mail Preferences – the edit SMTP list window – and no SMTP servers listed – blank list.  Yet the Mail account has the proper iCloud SMTP server in its set-up.  Moreover, text only emails send without a hitch.  I can readily send them before, during and after the “Cannot Send…” window pops up for an email that has other than text included in its content.
Interestingly, if I put the problem email into my Draft mailbox and then go online and log-in to my iCloud account, I can then open the email in iCloud online and send it – and it sends without a pause or quibble. Why won’t it send through Mail on my computer???
NONE of this happened in Lion.

  • Email sending approaches

Hi All,  in my project have to suggest email sending approachs to my manager. As a part of design document.
Following are the approachs available. Kindly share ur views on pros and cons for these approaches
Approach 1: Use third party SMTP
    Pros: Readily available
    Cons:Costs
Approach 2: Host own SMTP on Windows Azure
    Pros:
    Cons:
Approach 3: Using Public email Account
Pros: No additional cost or dependency.
Cons: Requires more effort in terms of designing and implementation.

Third party for me is not a very good solution.  Especially if its not free.
Here's what my system is using: running 24/7, accommodating hundreds of users per day.
    Sending: System.Net.Mail
    Receiving: OpenPop.dll.
    Pros:
    1. Very fast email fetching.
    2. No third party required. That means, error from a third party will not be a concern. You can modify the behavior of you program anytime.
    3. Easy to do.
    4. You can design an html format(no images), for the body of your message.
    Cons.
    1. No images in the mail body.  (Unless you are willing to attach the image (visible to recipient)).

  • DBMail Error

    Hi All,
Please check the following error message and kindly provide me the detailed resolution details to resolve this issue.
    DBA

    Hi dbadays,
Based on my research, it is generally caused by “Authentication”, which can be caused by wrong userid / password, or wrong authentication type (for example, the SMTP requires Windows Authentication, but the client tries to use Anonymous Authentication)
So in order to solve this issue, we need to provide the correct userid and password, and we need to use the right authentication type.
For more detail about this issue and how to configure SQL Server Database Mail to send email, please refer to the following article:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/suhde/archive/2009/07/12/how-to-configure-sql-server-database-mail-to-send-email-using-your-windows-live-mail-account-or-your-gmail-account.aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Cannot get db mail to work via SMTP Relay for Office 365 in SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2

Our company recently moved to Office 365 which mean our on premise exchange server went away as well with the move.  I am trying to configure my new sql server (OS-Windows Server 2012 R2, DBMS- SQL 2014 Std Edtion).  After some searching I found
this article (http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx) and have followed these steps exactly, but to no avail.  I did some further research
on the SMTP relay I setup and found a way to test it (listed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn592151(v=exchg.150).aspx at the bottom of the article).  If I drop the email.txt file in the pickup folder, it gets sent out no problem.
I have configured my db email exactly as describe here(http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx).  But keep getting an unable to connect
to SMTP server error.  I have even tried completely shutting down firewall to see if that is the issue and multiple restarts.  Any ideas how to get this to work on Office 365?

The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-10T22:28:41). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Failure sending mail.).

    Hi,
I followed this blog and got the below error message in the Database Mail Log.
“The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-11T19:34:00). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay
    for [email protected]).”
If you are getting the same error message, you can try the below steps to resolve the issue.
    1. Open the IIS 6.0 management console. Right click on the SMTP server and open the properties window.
    2. Click on the Access tab, click Relay button under Relay restrictions. loopback IP address (i.e 127.0.0.1).
Then the email should be sent out from Database Mail without problem.
    Thanks.
