Smtp server refusing password

I am trying to set up Mail for Leopard for my wife's account on my machine. It is a G5 - 2 hard disk disk machine. I have the Tiger version of mail on disk 1 and have decided to do a clean install and rebuild all essential software on disk 2. This may not be the best way of doing this but at least I get a very clean install from basics up.
I have just tried to set up mail for my wife's account. My account works perfectly, Her Mail smtp server refuses the same password as that used for Mail Tiger. All settings are exactly the same and the incoming mail seems to work well. The outgoing smtp server is giving me a problem? I have double checked the password in key chain and I am using exactly the same passwords as those used for mail Tiger.

It's definitely a bug in this OS.
I disagree. As I pointed out above, this also happens in exactly the same way when the Mail Server fails to respond, and that is a Mail Provider problem. Before you are so quick to blame Apple on this issue, make certain (using Connection Doctor window and Activity Window) that what you are asserting is actually true.
Is Apple addressing this?
No. It is not their problem unless and until you have done your homework. And if you determine that it definitely IS their problem, you will need to contact Apple directly through the Genius Bar or AppleCare.

  • Database Mail Target smtp server refused connection.

    Hi..
I'm working with a dev box that I'm configuring Database Mail from.
I've run through the setup from
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh245116.aspx
    and
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/485124/Configuring-Database-Mail-in-SQL-Server
I have attempted to use the gmail smtp setup examples.  I think I am close but my test emails keep returning an error in the log of:  "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused"..
I've tried ports 587, 465, and 25 (with and without SSL checked  for each of them).
Where else should I check. ?
To the best of my knowledge my firewall settings are open to the transmittal of a test email.
    Andy

If you are using your domain with gmail than it should work easily, but if you are using the gmail domain, then I had the same issue with Gmail on several CMS systems :-)
It look like GMAIL changed, the configuration a while back, and blocked external application, to use it's mail server, if it is not recognize the application.
awhile ago gmail used to sent email saying it blocked a suspicious login attempt, and provided a way to enable that functionality, with one click. last time that we tried to configure external application (DotNetNuke in that case), we did not get this email,
so it is very hard to find how to do it :-(
There is an option in your account to get a special password for external application. don't remember where/how I got it (I used google at the time to find the solution)
The configuration that worked for me in the past,
before this issue, on SQL Server and other applications was:
    SMTP Server:          smtp.gmail.com:465
    SMTP Authentication:  Basic
    SMTP Enable SSL:      checked
    SMTP Username:        ######
    SMTP Password:        ######
This should work if the Email address belongs to your domain and it created through the Google Apps web interface:
    SMTP Server:          smtp.gmail.com:587
    SMTP Authentication:  Basic
    SMTP Enable SSL:      checked
    SMTP Username:        ######
    SMTP Password:        ######
** I recommend not to use Gmail for this, since even if you configure correctly, they might and probably change the configuration again in several weeks/month.

  • Sendmail SMTP server refusing connection or unavaible

    Greeting,
I am finally moving my mail server from a UltraSPARC 5/Solaris 9 to Sun Workstation 20/Solaris 10 R6
After much time and pain, I think I finally got the Mail Server(Sendmail/IMAP) up and running except when trying to send mail from another client using it as my mail server as a SMTP server, I get error msgs indicating that the server is refusing SMTP connections or un-availble
    More info::
    bash-3.00# svcs | grep -i sendmail
    online 12:47:51 svc:/network/smtp:sendmail
    bash-3.00# ps -ef | grep -i sendmail
    root 4567 2981 0 12:58:24 pts/2 0:00 grep -i sendmail
    smmsp 4556 738 0 12:47:52 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/sendmail -Ac -q15m
    bash-3.00#
    The questions are:
    1. How do I change the default parameters on starting sendmail
    2. Do I configure to allow the mail server to act once again as a SMTP server.
Will post info on sendmail.cf file if needed...
    thanks
    khat

You probably installed in secure by default mode. So sendmail is running in listen local_only mode.
    Try
    svccfg -s sendmail setprop config/local_only = false
    svccfg refresh sendmail
    svccfg restart sendmail

  • Smtp server rejects password for outgoing mail

I can receive, but not send messages from my imac and get the message the SMTP server "smtp.tiscali.co.uk" rejected the password for user ".........".
This has just suddenly started happening. I enter what I know to be the password but it is rejected, so I have to send via webmail (now talktalk, not tiscali) or iphone. I have looked on here before and tried re-entering password/changing the port but to no avail. Flummoxed.

  • Mail 4.5 SMTP Server Rejecting Password for Outgoing Mail

I just set up Mail 4.5 and am receiving incoming mails but can't send out my emails. I get a message saying the SMTP server rejected the password. I know it's the correct password, have entered it a few times now. I'd appreciate any advice. thnx

    Hi Jan ...
From the Mail menu bar click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Select the account on the left.
Make sure the SMTP server is selected where you see:  Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Quit then relaunch Mail to test.
If the correct server is already selected, open Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to find the email account. Then right or control click the keychain then click Delete.
Go back to the Account Information tab in Mail > Preferences. Type in the correct password. You should be prompted to save that password to a new keychain. Click Yes.

  • Outgoing SMTP server refuse to send email on 3G network

I am frequently using my Iphone5 to reply to my Hotmail. Recently, the phone (when I am on 3G) has started to refuse sending my emails. Message on screen says "Cannot send mail. The user name or passwrod for "SMPT:[email protected]@smtp.live.com" is incorrect". The problem is I have not changed my password without also changing the outgoing mailservers. I receive incoming emails all the time, also when on 3G (which makes it more weird when incoming mail server is fine, but not outgoing). Then, as soon as I get wifi, the emails are being sent as they should. But not as long as I am on 3G. My husband is experiencing exactly the same problem. Pls help... many thanks,

I don't think that [email protected]@smtp.live.com" is the correct name for the SMPT server.  I would check that setting

  • Smtp server with password

im trying to configure smtp password for content server but i cant find where to do it
So i decided to catch the java event filter startSendMailTo and by using javamail api to send the mail
    with my own server parameters.....
    2 questions:
Is it correct to do it like this? (im newbie)
if it is correct....how can i get the message from,to,subject and body??
    Thanks in advance....

    Details, please.
Turn on session debugging and post the protocol trace.
How are you specifying that the user doesn't have a password?
Are you using null for the password? An empty string? Or are
    you not authenticating at all?

  • How do i change my smtp server password

  • How do I connect to an SMTP server that requires a username and password?

    Hi,
I am currently working on a project for university which requires me to send and receive email. I was until this week able to send mail no problem, but now the SMTP server has been upgraded so that each time a mail is sent it requires the username and password.
Ideally the connection should be made using TLS/SSL, and not use the Authenticator method. I want to pass the username and password directly if possible.
I've been trying to use the following but have been getting handshake, and other exceptions:
    SMTPSSLTransport smtpSSLtransport = new SMTPSSLTransport(session,
                        new URLName("smtp", smtpHost, port, null-File,
                        "USERNAME", "PASSWORD"));
            smtpSSLtransport.setStartTLS(true);
            smtpSSLtransport.connect(new Socket(smtpHost, port));
            smtpSSLtransport.sendMessage(smtpMessage,                                                     message.getAllRecipients());
smtpSSLtransport.close();Can anyone correct this piece of code for me or point me in the right direction of what classes and methods I should be using?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Gordon

I always wonder what misleads people to do things this way.
Was there some example you saw that suggested that instantiating
an SMTPSSLTransport was the correct approach? I hope not.
See the smtpsend.java demo program for how to use SMTP
authentication. If you need to use SSL, see the SSLNOTES.txt
file for hints on using the "smtps" protocol. smtpsend.java also
illustrates use of SSL, but you'll need to fix a bug in it to use the
    correct property names ("mail.smtps.auth", etc.).

  • Can not specify the SMTP server port, username and password for my SharePoint 2013 web application

We have our SMTP server under port number 141 and we should add username and password. but inside SharePoint 2013, I can only define the SMTP server name , from email, reply-to . But there are not fields to define the port number , the username and password.
So can anyone advice from where I can define the port number and other field settings for the SMTP server ?
    Thanks

i am no sure about user name and password. i never saw that option.

So, i am not able to enter anything in fields under SMTP server settings

You probably have changing settings disabled in Restrictions.

Well I am feeling a bit silly now because that was all I had to do. In the past Workgroup Manager had always opened right up to the list of my users, I never even thought to click on that but apparently that was all that was needed.
I still am not sure how the iChat Server preferences changed themselves on me, but it is not the first time I have had weird "settings" issues with our Snow Leopard Server.
    Thanks!

    Hi
You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password.  Some do, but many do not.  When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.
    Good luck

  • HP 8500 PLUS-scan to email - "SMTP server want approval- control SAMTP username and password"

I have this brand new PRO 8500 PLUS machine, and everything is working except for the "scan to email" function.
I did the setup in the web interface, in which I configured my GMAIL account to be the outgoing account in the printer.
In the end I pressed "save and test" and it reported OK! I used my full GMAIL adress as SMTP username, and my GMAIL password as password.
However, when I scan a paper and try send it to myself (same adress as confgured as outgoing in printer) it says something like(bad translation...)
"SMTP server demands approval - check that SAMTP username and password is set"
    Network config is:
    IP adress: 192.168.0.183
    Subnett mask: 255.255.255.0
    Standard gateway: 192.168.0.1

    Primary DNS server: 192.168.0.1
    Secundary DNS server: 0.0.0.0

    Hey Cartman9090,
Alright i did a little bit of researching and this is what i was able to come up with. There are two separate settings that perform two different actions.
    1. Under settings in the printer EWS you have email servers and individual settings for alerts. The email server settings under setting in the ews allow you to set up the product to send problem and status alerts to anyone through e-mail messages. When this function is configured, alerts are automatically triggered about supplies, paper-path status, and other service and advisory information.
    2. Under scan when configuring the scan to email in the EWS this is for configuring the e-mail address which will appear in the FROM portion of the e-mail message sent by the printer. The device allows you to scan documents and send them to one or more e-mail addresses as attachments—without additional scanning software. You do not need to scan files from your computer and attach them to e-mail messages. In addition to send scanned files as emails the device must use a outgoing email profile configured with an outgoing email account.
