SMTP servers offline

I just migrated from an old apple using 10.4. Everything worked (and still works) fine there. But on my new mac, all of the smtp servers appear off line. I can receive with no problem, but I can´t send. Yes, the settings are all right, and yes, I already tried deleting the account and setting it up again, but it is not working. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

I have the same problem, but perhaps you can find some help at one or more of the following posts. Good luck! Bill

  • Outgoing smtp servers offline?

I installed Yosemite on Friday; since then I cannot send emails but can receive them; when  I press 'send' I get a drop down menu tab which says outgoing servers (smtp) are offline and there's nothing i can do using the 'edit servers' option
i have checked settings, re-input settings, deleted account and set it up again all to no avail. I am pretty sure it is an apple/Yosemite issue as I can still receive and send emails on iPad, two android 'phones and windows laptop all with same settings. It happened once before with mavericks install but techies at my previous broadband provider sorted it that time.
Has anyone else had the same/ similar issue?
On separate point i should have waited as really don't like Yosemite so far; should have thought a little more carefully after last year and my experience of using IOS 7 after installing it on iPad 2.

This one worked for me on all my Apple devices, absolutely works :-)
    Quit mail
    Open up Finder
In the Finder menu bar select Go > Go to folder
type in ~/Library and click Go (on my kb the "~" is next to the left shift key)
    Open the folder Mail
    Open the folder V2
    Open the folder MailData
Double click to open Accounts.plist (should open in TextEdit)
Find the block of data that contains the offending mail account
Find the line within this block that says <key>UserAllowsInsecureAuthentication</key>
Change the line below this from <false/> to <true/>

This change happened during normal operation.  Suddenly cannot send/receive mail.
    Any thoughs?

Hi CDog, I feel your sentiment from the "avatar" post you made and at the end lead me to this link. Have you used the Connection Doctor? It is helpful at times to check what particular errors you encounter. You might also want to create something like a public email (@gmail, @yahoo) and create a new account to test if it is an issue with the mail app or an issue with your smtp servers. Either the connection doctor or time will tell when your servers will be online. hope that helps and great caricature from Crumb

  • All SMTP servers offline (since last security update?)

OK.  A couple of weeks back, after a security update (though I can't be sure that's when it started), both iChat and outgoing mail on all my various accounts (mobileme, gmail, university gmail, aim) stopped working.  Incoming mail still works fine on all accounts.
I was finally able to get iChat working again today by changing the ports to 443 per a post suggestion, but still no dice on SMTP despite several attempts based on other help board posts.  I have tried using several custom ports, fooling around with SSL, removing and re-adding accounts, etc.  Nothing helps.  The last thing I see when connection doctor tests is: 5.246 LOGOUT -- though as a layman I have no idea what that means.
Any ideas... please?  Someone else installed my version of Lion for me so I will have to buy another copy if I need to reinstall fresh.

since I have ios i have trouble with the mail account. it very often says SMTP-servers are offline...  and I have to restart the computer and sometimes it works and sometimes it does not.
What can I do to solve this
    thanks

Are you having trouble on an iPhone or iPad (which uses iOS) or on a computer? If you're having trouble on an iOS device, what does turning off your computer have to do with this? Which iPhone? Which version of iOS? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears? Have you tried deleting the email account and adding it back?

  • Smtp servers are all "offline"

Basically I can't send email from mail anymore. It's really frustrating. Every time I try I get the "Connections to the server “smtp.gmail.com” on the default ports timed out." message that then prompts me to try later/select a different server. Once in a great while I can send an email, but it's getting more difficult. At first I thought it's because I'm doing this from a college campus with frequent internet problems, but this has become persistant, even off campus.
I've gone through these forums and noticed a bunch of other people with the same problems, and I've tried a lot of the solutions but its still not working.
I'm running OS x 10.8 on a 2009 macbook pro 13 in. I have 3 emails that I have linked to my mail account. One is through aol, one is a gmail account, and one is a gmail account running through my college (I forgot what that's called... basically it's gmail but with my school's name).  a p

Yes I have tried defining a new SMTP server with the values I am supposed to use with my ISP. I am not sure what you mean by values. Please clarify. Thanks.
Well, pretty much just the port number, although if you identify your ISP and give the address of its SMTP server, someone sharing your ISP may have better advice.
Here are the values I see in Mail for SMTP servers:
    - Server name
    - Port number (unless "Use default ports" is selected)
    - Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) (checkbox)
    - Authentication

  • HT2623 smtp server offline-please advise

icloud server offline, cannot send email from mac, will not allow me to change settings because incoming mail server field will not allow text to be entered

You should confirm that your incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) servers are set up as detailed in this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
There will usually be a 'pxx' number stuck on the front and you can ignore that. Please also always post your system when you have a qur=ery as it can make a considerable difference to the answer.

  • Applemail problems with taking outgoing gmail servers offline

I am using a MacBook Pro, with 4GB, and 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and Mail App 5.3.
I can receive email on my 5 IMAP gmail accounts no problem. But for some reason 3 of the gmail accounts outgoing mail servers are "offline" so I cannot send mail out from those accounts. This happened just recently and only occurs on my MacBook. I am able to send messages out from those three accounts from my iPad and my iPhone so it seems to be a problem with the Mail app. How do I fix this?

Outgoing is SMTP settings.I would also run
    EDIT SMTP SETTINGS
In Accounts window > Outgoing Mail Server SMTP:  select to Edit SMTP Server list... from popup.
Select account in the list.(It's not uncommon to find extra SMTP servers listed. When you remove account, Mail does not delete the smtp info. You might need to do some clean up in the list to remove the extras.)
    Under Advanced Tab:
Apple defaults to the default ports (25,465, 587) but some servers prefer a custom port. Check to see what port they recommend. Gmail for example likes 465, Outlook.com 587.
Verify if your server require SSL. (Gmail requires SSL)
User Name. Enter full email address  eg.  [email protected]
Add password if it is blank.(If you have two step authentication setup, you'll need to get an app specific password  more info)
    http://www.google.com/landing/2step/
Open Connection Doctor under Window in the Menu bar.
Do you see green light now for your account SMTP?
I would also run Keychain First Aid.
Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities
Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
    Select Repair and click Start.
If any problems are found run again to verify all repaired.

  • All Mail outgoing pop servers (offline)

    Help please.
All of my pop mail accounts are unable to send mail but they all receive. The accounts are with a number of different ISPs. In Preferences/Account Info all the outgoing smtp servers appear with (Offline) next to them, including my dotMac account. I've tried resetting passwords on the servers to no avail - I always get a message saying server rejected password.
I can't send anything and I'm 6000 miles from my desktop!
    I'm running 10.6.2. Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have the same problem on one computer (but not others using the same network)...outgoing mail...using different servers all indicate "offline". I've not been able to find way to bring the outgoing accounts "online". Because the accounts work through other computers in the house as well as for outgoing mail, I assume they are not locked. Recently software updates have not solved the problem.

  • How do you delete outgoing (SMTP) servers???

Due to the fact many SMTP servers require you to be on their network to login, I have at varioius times set up 3 different SMTP servers in the mail app setup. The mail app never forgets them once you set them up. It even remembers multiple copies of the same SMTP server where I just tried different settings/passwords. The mail app adds all these SMTP accounts (I now have 7 including "other SMTP servers") when I only set up one after deleting the account and starting over. Worse yet, these 7 represent only 3 unique servers and when it's trying to test the outgoing (SMTP) server at setup, it takes forever while it tests all 7 apparently.
Deleting mail account doesn't get rid of these SMPT servers. Resetting iPhone doesn't work because it restores them from from backup in iTunes. There should be some way to get mail app to forget every server/name/password combination you have ever entered when trying to get connected to an outgoing server.
Lest anyone think this is unecessary, keep in mind you can't send from home via cmwx server if you get bad cell coverage. You can't send away from home if you are off your home network, and you can't send from a hotel room with wi-fi access if you have no cell coverage. I fianlly set up a mail account that can be connected to from anywhere, but now I can't get rid of all the rest!

Seems that the only way to clear them out would be to perform a Restore in iTunes and set up as a new phone (not from backup). Note that this is also the only way to clear out the email address autofill list (and that one affects a lot more people than the SMTP server list, I'm sure).
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • How to configure multiple smtp servers per domain

    Hi,
how do we configure multiple smtp servers per domain/corporate in iplanet messaging server 5.2. i wanted to do this so that i can configure some domains with virus scanning and some domains without antivirus.

    Hi Martin,
Well we are trying to run a report without exactly specifying the name of reports server anywhere, e.g. in database or in form or anywhere else. Now if I do not supply a reports server name using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT, the error it displays is FRM-41211: Integration Error : SSL failure ... However if I specify the reports server name in the form, the reports run perfect. Also the name of reports server is specified in rwservlet.properties.
Now the question goes as follows:
Can I run my report from Form without specifying the name of the Reports server anywhere at all. This is so because either an in-process reports server should be picked or the one which is entered in rwservlet.properties should be pickec up by default. Please correct us if we are wrong. once we are through with it, we have to move to Oracle 10gR2 concept of reports server.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Ruchi/Saurabh

  • Can I setup multiple SMTP servers / emails with one IMAP servers on the iPh

All my email arrives at one place, on one IMAP server. However I have 2 email addresses, and need to use a different SMTP server for each one. How to setup this on the iPhone? This is what I considered so far:
    1. I don't see how to enter multiple addresses for the same account, and map each address to a SMTP server.
    2. If I create multiple accounts, I have to enter multiple IMAP server, and the iPhone doesn't let me enter the same IMAP server information for different accounts.
    3. I could create a second account with a dummy IMAP/POP server, and a real SMTP server. But then most likely if I respond to mails that arrive on my IMAP server (1st account), Mail will always use my 1st email address when responding. Instead I'd like it to automatically pick as From the To address of the mail I am responding to (as the desktop Mail.app does).
    Alex

If you have multiple SMTP servers available, you can select from one of the available SMTP servers for a particular account.
After you've entered the SMTP server for the first account when creating the 1st account and you've entered the SMTP server for a 2nd account when creating the 2nd account, you'll have both SMTP servers available to use with either or both accounts.

  • Can't send email with SMTP servers

Not sure if I have the right SMTP server but I'm using mail.1xbell.ca and have also tried smtp.bellaliant.net. I can receive fine but can't send. It just times out. Tried it on 3G and WIFI.
I'm using Aliant in Newfoundland, Canada for my email and the phone is with Telus. The tech dude at Aliant wouldn't tell be dick all because the phone is with another carrier even though my email is with Aliant.
Any suggestions in getting this fixed?

If the email account provider for the email account is not the internet service provider associated with the wi-fi network your iPhone is connected to at the time and the email account provider for the email account does not have an authenticated SMTP server, you won't be able to send with the account - unless you have access to the ISP's SMTP server being used for your internet connection at the time.
As already provided, most if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of the ISP's network or that isn't provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
A MobileMe account is my primary email account which has an authenticated SMTP server and I've never had a single problem sending with the account from my iPhone over the last 3 years regardless my internet connection at the time - various wi-fi networks with different associated ISPs or when connected to AT&T's cellular network.
Having an account with an authenticated SMTP server is the key.

  • A tip on how to get mail to work with O2 SMTP servers.

I found I had a problem in Mountain Lion where Mail could not log into the O2 SMTP servers even though I was using the exact same settings that were on my iPhone, iPad and MBP running Lion?
Well I finally found a solution.
In Mail open preferences and click on Accounts and select the account in the lefthand pane.
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and in the drop down menu select Edit SMTP Servers to get:
Normally the radio button against Use Default Ports would be checked, instead check Use Custom Port and insert the number 25 and click OK.
Now back at the Accounts window click on Advanced at the top to get:
Make sure you have Port 110, on mine changing the SMPT to 25 also altered this to 25 so worth checking. When you have finished close the preferences and click on save, quite Mail then restart hopefully all should work now.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Exchange 2010 Receive Connector intermittently getting an SMTP RSET from sending SMTP servers causing missing user email

Users are receiving about 95% of their messages from sending SMTP servers. Intermittently, sending SMTP servers send the Exchange 2010 Server a SMTP RSET command for no apparent reason. The RSET Command (by SMTP specification) causes the Exchange 2010 Server
to drop the message. The sending SMTP servers then do not resend the message after asking the Exchange server to drop the message. This means the message is marked as Sent by the sending servers but the dropped messages never show up in the users' Outlook

    Hi,
According to the receive connector log, your emails were failed to be deliverd with DNR. If I misudnerstand the meaning, please feel free to let me know.  If yes, I'd like to confirm the detail information in the DNR to narrow down the
    cause.
Additionally, based on my research, the RSET command performs an SMTP reset, and then aborts the message that is currently being sent. Thus, the log didn't provide more information for troubleshooting. Is there any other error in your event log? please check
the event log when the issue happens again.
