SMTP Timeout

hey guys,
have had a good look through the forums but did not find anything that helped.
basically have had the 10.4 server setup and working for over a year happily.
about once a day i have a look in the postfix mail queue and there is normally 1 or more messages that are stuck.
here is an example:
host mail.global.mas.att.com[207.46.51.86] said: 421 mail106-sin.bigfish.com Error: timeout exceeded (in reply to end of DATA command)
email to pretty much all servers gets there just fine. i don't use relaying through any isp, mail gets sent directly.
my question is can i change any settings that slows an upload down, i read that it might be something to do with the MTU so i have tried setting the mac to 1450 but no change as yet after a restart.
i know its only a few mail servers i have trouble connecting too, but still annoying for my users.
any help would be great!
regards,
tommy.

Personally I would forget the mtu. I've not looked into it a lot but 421 seems to be generated by quite a few things beyond control of your end. It may be a greylisting (with bad error message) or just an over-busy or under-powered receiving server. Exchange servers seem to (or used to) have known problems with queues and generated 421 errors.
I would think the best course was to contact postmaster at the recipient domain (or @bigfish.com in the case of that particular error) and ask them if they can explain the error their server is giving you. After a couple of responses you might start seeing whether the problem is at your end or not.

  • All of a sudden I cannot Forward emails in TB 31.1.2 - I get SMTP timeout error

    And I've tried everything. Shutdown Emsisoft virus prot., turned off firewall, got into Verizon router (btw, I'm going right into the Verizon router-not thru a switch), no port forwarding, even tried to forward an email in Safe mode in Win 8.1 x64. This just happened. I can Write an email OK (i.e., from scratch), but just forwarding, even a small text message won't forward. I even installed an older version of TB. HELP! HELP!
    I either get the SMTP timeout error or I get "check your email and messaging settings." My wife has the exact same setup in TB 31.1.2 but she uses Win 7 x86. -gg

    This has been reported as [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1060901 Bug #1060901]. If you have an account on Bugzilla, please consider voting for that issue.
    Several other people have sent in the same support request as you, noting this happened after they upgraded to version 31.1.
    The exact error message is: XXXX is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. You must correct it before sending the e-mail.
    '''This happens in Thunderbird 31.1.0 when your mailing list description includes several words separated by spaces.'''
    Although not ideal, these workarounds should let you use your mailing lists until a proper fix is implemented:
    * While composing an email open the address book and select the list you are trying to send to, highlight all the names in the list and drag them to the To: box. This uses your existing data without modifying it.
    * Replacing the blanks " " between the words in such lists' descriptions with an underscore "_". This requires modifying your mailing list(s) description(s).
    '''About automatic updates'''
    Automatic updates are the default in Windows.
    You can [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuration-options-updates?esab=a&s=automatic+updates&r=1&as=s customize such behavior], however, it's under '''Tools > Options > Advanced > Update'''.
    My suggestion would be to set it to '''Check for updates, but let me choose wether to install them.''', specially if you depend on email for critical / important business or personal matters.

  • Setting the JavaMail properties especially: mail.smtp.timeout

    Hello,
    I am desperately trying to set the mail.smtp.timeout on a Spring JavaMailSenderImpl.
    Here is what I undertook:
    <bean id="mailSender" class="org.springframework.mail.javamail.JavaMailSenderImpl">
    <property name="host" value="${mail.server}"/>
    <property name="port" value="${mail.port}"/>
    <property name="javaMailProperties">
    <props>
    <prop key="mail.smtp.connectiontimeout">1000</prop>
    <prop key="mail.smtp.timeout">1000</prop>
    </props>
    </property>
    </bean>
    The javaMailProperties seem to be completely ignored by my Java Mail implementation. Can anyone please help?
    If I can't set this property through Spring, how can I set it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Julien.

    I notice the API documentation for com.sun.mail.smtp says that property should be an int. Is it possible that Spring doesn't know that, and sets it as a String by default? And that you should be specifying the property type somehow?
    Note: I know nothing about Spring except what it's for. This is just speculation.

    I receive emails just fine, sending is the problem. I've had this problem for a few months now and it's getting really annoying.

    The actual error message:
    http://i.gyazo.com/fd8bab2147aba6f813054b900436d231.png
    The only thing I got from the log:
    0[220f140]: SMTP Connecting to: smtpout.secureserver.net
    I am using a DSL Modem, however I'm in Germany using Telekom. The modem is a Speedport 724v (pretty restrictive in general), which is actually a modem/router combo (I hate them but there was no other option).
    After doing a port scan this is what I've found (hopefully this is accurate):
    http://i.gyazo.com/a93a7443bbe5aa9245db7504bb9f74c2.png
    From these results, I tried this but still nothing:

    Thank you for your time!
    Edit: I also do use FTP (FileZilla, assuming it uses port 21) and I have no issues.

  • Not able to set the SMTP timeout session on BIPublisherAPI

    Any of the below parameters are not taking into effect:
    deliveryRequest.addProperty(DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.ASYNC_CHECK_INTERVAL,
    "1");
    deliveryRequest.addProperty(DeliveryPropertyDefinitions.ASYNC_TIMEOUT,
    "1");
         deliveryRequest.addProperty(CommonPropertyDefinitions.TIMEOUT,
    "1");
    Is there any workaround to set the time out on the smtp session using BI publisher java api?

    Sorry, what I said was rubbish, because the LSMW and the session run in different external sessions.
    I have searched forum for these terms: "company BUK parameter BDC background"
    These threads Is it possible to set default company code in SM35? and Release BDC in SM35 in background, How to set defaul company code? seem promising, but I'm not sure they really solve.
    In case these threads don't help you, I think you can create your own Z transaction which sets the BUK parameter id and then does a LEAVE TO TRANSACTION 'ABAON'. Then create again the recording on the Z transaction.
    If you are using ECC6, then you may also enhance the standard to reset BUK parameter id at the very beginning of ABAON, in case it's run in batch input (sy-binpt = 'X'). Be careful as sometimes SAP does batch input on some transactions, so that could make the standard fail.
    Last thing, you can contact SAP support, though it might probably be considered as consulting.

  • SMTP timeout on localhost

    Hi,
    I have configured my SMTP server on my Windows server 2012.
    No authentication
    relay and connection enabled for 127.0.0.1
    Message Limit All Off
    Firewall All Off
    SMTP service restarted
    I am using SendMail v2.2.2 from dipisoft to test SMTP server.
    If I am trying to send mails from client computers then everything is OK.
    But If I am doing the same from my server computer (same computer where SMTP service installed) than every client program (SendMail also) gives me error or timeout.
    If I restart the SMTP service the first send gives me no error (but the email is not arriving), after that SMTP constantly gives me timeout. From Client PCs still everything is working.
    Please help me solve this problem, I am out of ideas.
    Thank you in advance,
    Dave

    Additional info: if I put email.txt to Pickup Folder than the mail is sent successfully.

    I try this code on cisco router, it work fine(if smtp server not avalable script print error 1-2sec).
    Thank you.

    If the mailer server is not listening on tcp/25 or otherwise refuses the connection, then the socket attempt should die quickly.  If the mail server is truly unreachable, then the socket will never timeout until the EEM policy terminates.  This holds true on the latest version of EEM on routers as well.

  • What is causing my SMTP timeout error?

    When I send emails using thunderbird I am frequently getting the error message:
    "sending of email message failed.
    The message could not be sent because the connection to the SMTP server smtp.googlemail.com timed out. Try again or contact your system administrator"
    I have tried disabling AVG antivirus and my windows firewall but that has not helped, I've even created exceptions to the firewall for thunderbird.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:
    *Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
    *Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
    ; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

    Your computer can't connect to a computer named "son1175", or if it can then that computer isn't running a server listening at port 25. Talk to your network people if your computer name is the right one and ask them why not. It is nothing to do with programming.

  • Tranport.connect() blocks or if timeout is set builds unstopable threads

    Hi,
    I'am really in trouble while trying to build a simple "send an email" functionality in my software.
    I'am trying to connect to a SMTP server that is unreachable (assume there is a firewall blocking the packets on there way to the SMTP server of my choice). The first problem was, that Transport.connect() does never finish. So this Forum told me: "set mail.smtp.connectiontimeout" and everything gets fine. This is true, as I get an exception when the connect takes to long.
    So everthing was fine to me, as long as the application was running. But as I stopped the application (its a server app) I saw one Thread for each connect that failed. And these Threads are no deamon threads so they prevent the VM from exiting. Even when they are deamon threads it is a bad habit, because I will get masses of threads over the time.
    Thats why I'am really in trouble. Does anybody knows a solution, where i can recognize that a timeout occured during connect and no "everlasting" is started?
    Here are some code snippets from my app:
    smtpServerProps.setProperty("mail.smtp.connectiontimeout", "10000");
    smtpServerProps.setProperty("mail.smtp.timeout", "10000");
    Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(smtpServerProps);
    Transport trans = session.getTransport("smtp");
    trans.connect();
    mail.saveChanges();
    trans.sendMessage(mail, mail.getAllRecipients());
    trans.close();

    JavaMail 1.4 implements connection timeouts without needing an
    additional thread. Upgrade to JavaMail 1.4.

  • Disp+work stop because of shared memory?

    Hello Gurus, I have an SAP server that will not start. It was running previously, but after a parameter update and an instance restart, I cannot get the dispatcher running.
    System is Windows 2012 Server, MSSQL 2008 R2, 16 Core 132 GB RAM.
    I believe it is related to shared memory overlapping somehow, but  I am not sure how to resolve or investigate. I have had issues previously with memory overlap halting SAP servers with Diagnostics Agents, but this server is not currently running any DAA. It is running SAPRouter and some SAP Web Dispatcher instances.
    I will include my trace files below:

    Hi Alwina, here is the DEV_ICM trace:
    From this trace, it appears that it is listening to 65000?
    Netstat shows that the system is listening to 127.0.0.1:65000 .
    Other SAP ports show listening on 0:0:0:0:xxxx , is ICM listening on 127 a problem?
