Snagit images slightly distorted

When I paste Snagit images into a Captivate 5 slide, the left edge of the image becomes slightly distorted.  The rest of the image is fine, but the left edge appears to have a slight ripple in it.   I can paste the same Snagit image into any other application, including Captivate 3, and the quality is perfect.   Any ideas?   I'm using Snagit 9.0.0

Hi Jim,
Just to add a comment to this thread. I am a long time user of Snagit and Captivate. Currently using Snagit v10 and Captivate v4.
As you have already found, saving the image first in Snagit and them using Captivate "insert" option is the better option.
What I wanted to add was...in the past I used to save the images in Snagit as JPEG's before inserting them into Captivate. I have since discovered it is better to save your images in Snagit as PNG - you get better results in Captivate this way.
You may already be doing this, but mention it just in case.

  • Snagit images distorted in Captivate 4

    Until yesterday I was using Captivate 2.0 and successfully pasting snagit screen captures into Captivate slides without any  distortion.  Now that I have upgraded to Captivate 4.0 all Snagit images paste very pixelated or blurry.  At this stage I am very keen to head back to 2.0 as a solution.

    Hi Lilybiri,
    Please understand I am a self-taught user of Captivate with virtually no technical experience, so I am going to try and answer your questions the best I can but please excuse me if what I state comes across as total nonsense...'cause it most likely is!
    1. My Publish Settings in CP4 are: 30 frames/sec to AS2
    2. For recording slides to CP, first I have to reset my PC screen resolution down from 1152x864 to 1024x768 and set CP recording area to 1020x620
    3. When taking screen grabs ( sections from full Internet screen) my PC resolution is back to default 1152x864 and I use Snagit to capture the image, the quality being exact match as that taken from internet (i.e. excellent). I save the images with Snagit as JPEG onto external hard drive in an image folder, and then import the image to CP4 via Insert/Image.
    4. If (and only if) the image being imported to CP is "too large" for the CP slide, any reduction from within CP ends in the image (text in particular) becoming blurry. Because of this I try whenever possible to make sure the Snagit image is the right size to appear on the middle of the CP slide, which in my case means 943 wide x 442 height, or less.
    5. Currently most of my projects are being exported as .exe files for running from our Intranet.
    6. I dont use FMR.
    I have learnt to live with the "blurry" image issue with Captivate by using the above - but there is no doubt in my mind, either I am doing something wrong but have learnt to live with the disadvantage, or Captivate needs to be improved.

  • Resized and shrunk down image is distorted on ios/android

    It should be something very simple that just dont know.  When i proprtionally resize large image and display it on my mobile apps (ios & android) the image is slightly distorted and some smaller texts are little hard to read, or just doesnt look good.. As3 on desktop doesnt show it, and seems like only on mobile apps it happens.  I am using remote jpeg images loaded as bitmap and changing the width and height, is there something i can do to make it resize more correctly?  Thanks

    You could try applying smoothing to the image.
    _urlRequest=new URLRequest("pathtofile");
    _loader=new Loader;
    _loader.load(_urlRequest);
    _loader.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, function(e:IOErrorEvent):void{ trace(e) });
    _loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,smooth);
    private function smooth(e:Event) {
    var bit:Bitmap = e.target.content;
    if (bit != null) {
       bit.smoothing = true;

    What is the file format of the vector you downloaded?  Custom Shapes have a .PSP extension, and are placed according to this table.
    Preference filenames and locations in Photoshop CC
    They will then be loadable from the Custom Shapes drop down — click on the cog icon > Load shape > Find your downloaded vector.
    Once placed in the image, it will appear as a Shape layer, and can be edited with the Path, and Direct Selection tools (black and white arrows on the toolbar)

  • In Edit mode the image gets distorted as if a graphics card error...

    When I enter edit mode, many times the image gets distorted and is unrecognizable. The image is covered in red or green lines like when a driver or graphic card is having problems. I can view the image if I use the shift key or exit edit mode.
    Have the latest version of both OS and iPhoto. Am considering a complete reinstall of the OS and Software but would like to avoid if possible.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Well you can avoid the hassle of re-installing because it won't help. This is a bug that affects some users of 10.6 and iPhoto, Aperture and/or Preview. Currently there is no solution.
    iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
    and let them know that you too have the issue.

  • How do I fix slight distortion in background in generating sine wave

    I'm getting a slight distortion in the background when I run the following code, the distortion is very slight and sounds like buzzing. Because of its subtle nature it makes believe there is some sort of aliasing going on with the byte casting:
    Note: code assumes (for now) that the data is in big endian.
    Output:
    PCM_SIGNED 44100.0 Hz, 16 bit, stereo, 4 bytes/frame, big-endian
    (sound)
         public static void playFreq(AudioFormat audioFormat, double frequency, SourceDataLine sourceDataLine)
              System.out.println(audioFormat);
              double sampleRate = audioFormat.getSampleRate();
              int sampleSizeInBytes = audioFormat.getSampleSizeInBits() / 8;
              int channels = audioFormat.getChannels();
              byte audioBuffer[] = new byte[(int)Math.pow(2.0, 19.0) * channels * sampleSizeInBytes];
              for ( int i = 0; i < audioBuffer.length; i+=sampleSizeInBytes*channels )
                   int wave = (int) (127.0 * Math.sin( 2.0 * Math.PI * frequency * i / (sampleRate * sampleSizeInBytes * channels) )  );
                   //wave = (wave > 0 ? 127 : -127);
                   if ( channels == 1 )
                        if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 1 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                        else if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 2 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
                   else if ( channels == 2 )
                        if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 1 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte) (wave);
                        else if ( sampleSizeInBytes == 2 )
                             audioBuffer[i] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+1] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
                             audioBuffer[i+2] = (byte) (wave);
                             audioBuffer[i+3] = (byte)(wave >>> 8);
              sourceDataLine.write(audioBuffer, 0, audioBuffer.length);
         }

    The data was actually LITTLE-endian, it become apparent when you use a larger amplitude (say 2^15).

  • How to best arc image without distortion to fit curved cup template?

    I have tried searching forum for this and I know it has been discussed before but not really finding what I need to do correctly.  I have attached the layered image (reducing opacity so you can both template and image). The vendor provided me a flat template, not a path, to do my artwork. As you can see I need to arc the image without distorting to fit a cup template. I am more comfortable in photoshop but I can export to AI if necessary to complete which appears what I need to do via envelope distort from what I keep seeing. However, the template provided is not a path. I tried to trace template shape manually with pen tool and use envelope distort to arc my image to conform but it looked very distorted and no even close to what I was trying to achieve. I tried to do tradition arc warp in photoshop but it still seems to distort proportions. Steps on how best to do this would be much appreciated! I know there must be a easier/more efficient way to achieve this.

    I would not trace the template and will simply use it as a visual reference for deforming (conforming) the image to it. You can make the template image transparent to certain degree using the Transparency panel so you can see through it then move its layer on top of all other layers and lock it. Scale and position your image in such way that at least two of its corners fit two corners of the template for example the two top corners and then its bottom edge is on the same level as the template.Then select the image to be deformed and in the control panel at the top of your screen click the Embed button which allows you to deform the image (edit: just noticed you wrote it is already embedded, so skip this).
    Choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make it with a Mesh. and chose 1 for rows and columns. Make sure the Smart Guides are on (View > Smart Guides). With the Selection tool (white arrow) Shift click or drag a selection box to select the two points of one of the vertical sides of your image. Pick the Sheer Tool and first just click on the selected top corner point to set the reference point of the sheer then click and drag the corresponding bottom point to match it to the corresponding point of your template. You may hold Shift while dragging to constrain although the Smart Guides will do that by snapping to edge of the envelope if your mouse is close to it. Repeat this for the other side of image. To make the image curved, pick the Selection tool (white arrow) click a corner point which will display its handles, pick a handle that is on a horizontal side of the image and pull it up to deform the shape referring to the template. You may do this first roughly with all horizontal handles and then you can drag guides from the ruler when a handle is selected to snap a guide to it and use it to put the corresponding handle on the opposite side on the same level.
    Once you have deformed the image to conform to the template, you can fine tune the distribution of the vertical deformation with the vertical handles of the corner points. You can grab a handle and drag it along the vertical paths of the envelope (the Smart guides will snap to it). Drag the vertical handles on one each side lower until you like the distribution of the deformation.
    Try to follow my instructions and I'll clarify if you are stuck.

    When I apply the rotate motion on my image it distorts it (while rotating) putting lines in it.
    Why is that?

  • Enlarging HD image without distortion

    What's the largest increase one can make on an HD video image without distortion in FCP?
    And are there any plug-ins, filters, or programs that would allow further enlargement without distortion?
    Thanks!

    Pixels are Pixels, you enlarge them thus lowering your real resolution no matter how you do it. You have to do what 24, 30 may 60 frames for each second I think not. But some people have done it.

  • Slightly Distorted Playback from Piano Lessons

    Hello:
    I am using Garageband as part of iLife '09 on an iMac 20" with an M-Audio Keystation Pro 88 MIDI controller. I have a Tascam FireOne audio interface that the sound goes through, but this problem has also happened with the built-in CoreAudio driver before I purchased the interface.
    I'm mainly using it at the moment for working through the Piano Lessons I've downloaded from the Lessons site. Whenever I play the piano, it's tolerable and plays fine, but I notice that the sounds can become slightly distorted sometimes. Sometimes, for instance, I would press one of the keys and it would produce a stuttering sound. Other times, I would hold down a key and it would play a different octave of the chosen key.
    Any suggestions yoiu might have for improving the audio quality would be appreciated; thanks very much.
    Best,
    Velanche

    Hi,
    It happens in all players, even with audio-editors and with all output methods. I tried toggling each mute and dim button, without result. Maybe it's a problem with my PCI-slot, because the 1212m shares IRW with the onboard graphics and the USB controller. shouldn't be a problem today, but who knows. I've tried everything and i think that i will send back the card and buy a firewire based interface.
    Thanks for your help anyway & greetings

    When sound device is sharing IRQ with onboard graphics --> trouble if you have not disabled the onboard graphics. This can be improved a bit by setting the PCI latency (graphics --> 32, sound --> 64-128).
    !! 1212M is quite power hungry too --> is your PSU >300W?
    If you're under 300$ budged --> Presonus has FireBox on sale @ 299$ (~250$ street price, and it's >500$ device).

  • Image slightly blurs after using straighten

    Is it my imagination or does the image slightly blur when you 'straighten' it in iPhoto?
    I take a lot of macro shots, and this is killing the sharpness. Any ideas anyone?

    What is your resolution? More resolution can improve things a bit.
    When you think about it, this has to happen. When you straighten, you often end up trying to move a pixel a non-integral-pixel distance. So you have to fill each pixel with information from more than one pixel which leads to a lack of sharpness. You can try boosting the sharpening a bit, but if that does not help you may need to try another program like Elements and see if it does bettter.
    Where are you seeing the lack of sharpness? If it is in the thumbnail, it could be that the thumbnail has not been updated to optimise the sharpness after the change. Try viewing in full edit mode.

  • Flipping images produces a slight distortion

    I use the flip image feature occasionally but I noticed an unwanted side effect. An image that had been scaled to 34.1% of normal size proportionally changed to 34.1% x -34.2% after the transformation. It doesn't have any real visual effect, but it does set off false alarms in my preflight for a non-proportionally scaled image.
    It's always nice to preflight a document and see zero errors, as opposed to seeing a bunch of error that are (problably, maybe, hopefully) harmless.
    Any way to flip an image without triggering these false alarms? I could go into Photoshop and make a new file, but the resulting file clutter isn't a perfect solution either.
    Thanks,
    John

    When the project is exported to AVI or WMV there is an apparent "re-sizing" of one source during the transitions. Apart from that, the picture clarity is fine. The distortion is not severe but it is noticeable and annoying.
    I would appreciate any ideas about what this could be.
    Many thanks
    Brian

    Hello again all
    Sorry about the delay (things have been a bit hectic at work) but my thanks to John T Smith, Hunt and JohnBmx4 for your suggestions.
    The disortion or re-sizing effect is happening during transitions between a series of still photographs. (See attached WMV clip)
    I received the photos as JPGs at 300 dpi and took them all into Photoshop and cropped them to 720 x 576. The "Mode" settings in Photoshop for these photos was set at RGB, 8bits/channel. Resolution is 300dpi and the resampling was set to Bicubic. I imprted them into Premiere 6.5 as jpegs.
    When previewing in Premiere the transitions look fine. It is when the project is exported to AVI or WMV files that the disortion or re-sizing effect shows up.
    As you can see from the WMV clip, at the start of each transition, the outgoing image reduces slightly in size and then, just before end of the transition, the incoming image increases in size to fill the standard frame.
    The project also has 4:3 motion video which I captured from a Camcorder. The transitions between those captured motion clips seem to be fine. I have also attached a screen capture of the settings viewer for this project. The settings seem fine to me but maybe someone can spot an inconsistency.
    Would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions
    Many thanks
    Brian Emmis
