SNAP profiles and ads for newsprint

I've posted before regarding newsprint and Rob has posted links to profiles for newsprint. I have a SNAP profile I started using recently on all my newsprint exports.
I've noticed, with and without SNAP profile, though I export my PDFs with the same settings, some weeks the ads looks great and then one week the ads run soft or misregistered. Registration is a obviously a press issue but what about color shift. Sometimes my ad will be the only color ad that looks weak on a form when the month before the same PDF (we remit multiple insertions in same publication as one PDF with insertion dates in the slug).
So…I figured I run this by everyone again. My assumption is that I can use my standard export (x1a) which is that I used for years. Last month, I added the snap profile as a setting. I uploaded a link to a QT movie of my settings.
The exported PDF can be found here. I export to 300 dpi. Should it be 200? I've heard pros and cons that 300 dpi is overkill for newsprint. I want to remit a PDF that will print as good as possible even after taking in the variable quality of newsprint especially at the local weekly level. But major publications like the NY Times and Daily News are pretty consistent. Irks me to no end when my ad looks out of register on a page where all the other ads are okay.
I don't get bad ads all the time but enough that I want to check myself and see if there's a better way or if I'm missing a step or not doing something the right way. Thanks.

g'day
i've had a look at the pdf using a plug-in called enfocus pitstop and also watched the video supplied, and i'd safely say that the pdf is being made correctly. One thing i did note is that once i used acrobat's photo touchup tool to go into photoshop and have a look at the pic, it did look washed out, but i'm assuming that's because the pic is complying with the max ink density requested by the publisher (e.g. the "sunday telegraph" in australia recommends a max ink density of 230%). the moment i went edit/apply profile and applied the SNAP profile, it looked once again like the pic in the pdf.
is the colour inconsistency coming from the same publisher, or different publishers? if so, are their recommended specs the same or do they vary? has their prepress section done something to the pic which you're not aware of?
i'm not so sure its a press issue given in the OP's own words "my ad looks out of register on a page where all the other ads look okay" because on press, colour control isn't as precise as it would be in photoshop.

  • Having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper

I've been having trouble with pop-up windows and ads for MacKeeper and similar "services." Tried to download "MPlayerX" a week ago and it all started then. I thought I deleted the file but I'm still having trouble. I've been digging for solutions on here, but nothing I've found on here has worked yet--the VSearch stuff (I think) isn't on my hard drive. Any advice?

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.venus.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.venus.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.venus.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/venus
    /System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Using Color profiles and exporting for web browsers

I've been trying to figure out the answer to this question. As I'm sure you're aware Safari supports color profiles while other web browsers like Firefox do not. I would like to setup Aperture so that it displays and exports images for the widest audience possible. Unfortunately it embeds a color profile and my images on the web only display correctly in Safari. I've tried changing the proofing profiles and export settings to no avail. I didn't seem to have this problem in iPhoto, a picture there looked the same on screen as it did in Safari and Firefox but I can't achieve the same with Aperture...

Thanks for that information, unfortunately I'm not really any closer to solving the issue since I've already tried that. 1) by default, doesn't Aperture automatically embed the sRGB color profile? 2) if I set view>proofing mode to sRGB shouldn't what I see on screen match what a "dumb" application such as Firefox does when it ignores the embedded profile and display sRGB? I've tried going into the preferences>export settings and changed everything to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 but I see no difference in the final image between that and the default setting.
I guess my question is more specific to Aperture since I don't have this problem with other applications. For example, in photoshop if I do Export for Web it strips out any embedded profile and when I open that image in Firefox and Safari side-by-side they are exactly the same. But not so when I export an image from Aperture, when opened in Firefox it is desaturated and flat and of course in Safari it honors the embedded profile and looks fine.

    That is true.

Quick question though, I read in some other thread that QuickTime has trouble interpreting certain Levels while others play well. Is that true?
The QuickTime Player is not fully compatible with all Levels. It's not even documented what it does support. But it's even more complicated than that. The way that the bits can be encoded has many, many, configuration options. Only a subset of the options are supported by the QuickTime Player. If encoded with options it does not support the playback will be choppy or worse. Some of these encoding options are not controllable from the Media Encoder slider bars and drop down boxes. The alternative h.264 encoder from x264pro gives you a "QuickTime Player Compatibility" checkbox to cripple the encode so that it will play on QuickTime Player. In general you don't want to have this on unless you need to because it makes the encode less efficient and thus at a given bitrate it makes it look worse.

  • Macbook Pro Color Profile and Calibration for Photo processing.

    Hello Friends,
May be it has already discussed in many forums but somehow I got confused about different solutions of the questions and due to this asking once again here.
I am using Macbook pro of 2012 and there exist many color profiles in the Display settings.
I am a photographer who uses Photoshop for the editing as well as Canon Software.
To get the most accurate Monitor Calibration Should I use default "color LCD" profile ?
I am not using any External Calibration tool. I have manually calibrate the screen but somehow I am not 100% confident on that.
In that case should I go for default "color LCD" for my photo processing. I found some light yellow cast/warm color on that profile but I am not sure..
Any help/suggestion will be much appreciated.
I am using:- MacBook Pro + OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5
    Warm Regards,
    Ari...

Which model MacBook Pro? [EDIT] my bad, didn't see it in your original post
You mentioned that there is no error message when you try to change the profile; something is probably being reported to console though. Open Console.app (in /Applications/Utilities/) and see if anything is reported to it while you're experiencing these problems. If so, please post it here and I'll take a look at it.
Are you using the default profile that came with the machine or did you create your own by using the Calibration Assistant?
You might try opening Color Sync Utility (in /Applications/Utilities/) and verify or repair (if necessary) your color profiles.
    Hope this helps....

    Hi Jamesdwills,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
If you are using the same Apple ID on both devices, the Game Center profile should be the same.
Check out this information from the iPad User Guide.  Try signing out of the Game Center on both devices and then sign back in with the correct Apple ID:

  • How to use the selection profile and status profile for production order?

    Hi expert,
I want to know how to use the selection profile and status profile for production order. what's the usage for these two selection profile and status profile ?
      Please help me.
      thanks in advance.
      george.shi

    Hi George,
There are are two types of statuses. One is system status and second one is user status. These statuses will tell us current situation of an order.
We can't change system statuses. But we can create our own statuses through status profile. With this profile we can control user statuses.
    In this status profile,
1.We define the sequence in which user statuses can be activated,
    2.We define initial statuses
    3. Allow or prohibit certain business transactions.
Selection profiles are used to select the objects (say production orders) with different status combinations. We assign status profiles to selection profiles in BS42 T-Code.

    Raja.

  • Maximum number of connection profiles and group policies for Cisco ASA

    Hi,
We have a Cisco ASA 5520 running 8.0(2) that we use only for Remote Access VPN.
Does anyone know how many connection profiles and group policies that are supported on the box? I have not been able to find this in the manual.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Best regards,
    Harry

There is no limit for connection profiles or group policies that can be configured on ASA. However the numbers do depend upon the memory available in the device as the profiles are stored in memory during execution.

  • I am receiving a lot of pop-up ads on website pages. It has only recently started happening. They open new windows with ads for online gambling, online dating and other things. They are annoying and I want them shut off. Please help me

I have recently started seeing millions of pop-up ads on website pages. It is not something that normally happens. They open new windows with ads for online gambling, online dating among other things. I am growing sick and tired of these ads, and have tried multiple things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, I have blocked pop-up ads and unenabled Java script. I have tried everything I could find, but nothing has worked. I have even downloaded AdBlock and Clean Genius. Nothing has even remotely changed this annoying trait. I hope this can be a quick fix I can perform and not something that will have to be done by a tech-hand. Please, if you know anything about this issue, let me know how to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • ICC Profiles for papers and not for HP printers.

Hello, I apologize if this has been asked a billion times before, but I have been trying to find the ICC profiles to install for a different printer.
I am not using a HP printer, but a Canon iP6000D.  Let me explain, I'm a student and my class required me to buy different papers that were not for my original printer and I have to install ICC profiles for the papers I chose. My problem is I cannot find the ICC profiles for the paper I bought on the HP site, it's very unweildy and hard to find here. I had no problem finding my moab printer paper ICC profiles...  HP seems to enjoy hiding their profiles.
So where would I find the iCC profiles for the Hp premium plus Photo paper that is Soft gloss 8.5x11" 200gm 80lb? I've looked all over and it seems to be impossible to find.

  • PNG colour profiles - and this format for print

I know it's taboo to talk about PNG for printing.
But I can't find and I've searched the forums - there was a post made about embedding colour profiles a while ago.
I know PNG is a RGB only format, but I'm 36.8% sure I read something about embedding either RGB or ... wait for it CMYK profiles into PNG files.
If anyone can shed any light on this - and how about PNG for print - I've been against it for a long time - but it is a lossless format, it can carry 64 bit data.
I know I know - but I thought I'd ask anyway - see what people think.

You can't save a PNG with a profile out of Photoshop, but it looks like you can embed one via the image events scripts that ship with OSX (/Library/Scripts/ColorSync/embed). Unfortunately ID ignores the embedded profile and uses the document's assigned profile instead. PNGs do respond to ID's RGB profile and the RGB profile will have an effect on the CMYK separation when it happens.
    Here's ProPhoto and sRGB:
From your ID document you can also assign a profile, which conflicts with the doc's profile, by selecting the png and choosing Image Color Settings.... So, you could assign AdobeRGB as your doc's profile and assign sRGB to all your pngs.

Thanks for the obvious question. I mean it. The very same thought came to me this morning and, sure enough, I had booted into another drive--my old one that, of course, had the old desktop, etc.
It didn't dawn on me that this was the case since I hadn't set it as a boot drive but I guess in the course of all the restarts I did, it got switched.
    I'm back to normal again.

Did you reinstall CS3 after CC?
For that matter, doing an in-place upgrade on the OS is always a gamble with Adobe programs. Reinstalling all the versions you need, in order, would probably solve your problem.
And you shouldn't need to save as IDML after opening the .inx in CC.
