Snap to mark in imovie '11?

In previous ver of imovie I remember that I could lay down a music track and as it played I would (i think) hit "command b" on certain beats and throughout the song. Then I would be able to lay video & photos down to where they would "snap" exactly on the previously marked beats.
Can this be done on the new imovie?
If so how.
I hope I have explained myself properly....
Thanks in advance

Hi AppleMan1958,
I've been searching through these Communities for about an hour now, and I can't seem to get the right solution to my version of this Snap to Beats problem.  I'm able to get the photos to Snap to Beats perfectly...in a new project.  However, I'm at about the 20:00 minute mark of an existing project, in which I've been using transitions and haven't been concerned with timing.  Now, I'd like to add a classical song with loud symbols, and make each photo appear on the "clang" of each symbol.  The problem is, when I add the song at the end of the project, it doesn't show up with very much length -- I basically need to add photos in order to get the green bar to extend.  But when I add the photos, they don't Snap to Beats, even though I have that option checked (perthe tutorial).
Alternatively, I've tried adding the photos first, the music second...but again, I can't get the photos to synchronize with the beats.
So my question is, is this only possible when you drop into a new project?  Put another way, does the feature work in the middle of an existing project?
I've put a ton of time into this, and I'm hpoing to get done for my wife before Christmas Eve, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Best,
Nick

Yes I mean chapitel marker for iMovie 10. I can't believe that this important feature for DVD film not work for iMovie 10!

    Hi
    But it doesn't.
    So I stick to
    • iMovie 6HD
    • (iMovie'11 v.9.0.x)
    • FinalCut any version
iMobie'13 v. 10.0.x is in many ways a dumbed down version. (MY opinion)

  • Trouble with beat marks in imovie 09

Must be me but here is my situation. The first 15 seconds of my project is an avi with audio to it. I want to insert 75 pictures to an audio file that plays after the first 15 seconds with beat marks. I am having trouble doing this. I can't find a tutorial that lets me do this. "An helpers out there?

I see this was a MP4 clip brought into iMovie from iPhoto. The encoder is given only as AVC. Was the original clip from a camera shooting AVCHD? I am surprised that the audio is good since often AAC is a problem and also the rate is 44.1KHz not 48 which is standard for video. What camera did you use? iMovie 10 should work with AVCHD but it is highly compressed and can be problematic depending on the power of your computer. You might try converting the clip to Quicktime movie with prores 4.2.2 encoder using MPEG Streamclip which is a free download.

  • How to attach a photo to a marker in imovie 10.06

I have imovie 10.06 and I've tried to locate a similar feature of snap to beat on my version and have had no luck. I've tried using makers and attach a photo to it, but the photo wont attach. There's something called snapping that I turned on but doesnt seem to do anything! My project is just a bunch of picture that I want to show up to the beat of the song, which is rather fast, so its hard to line it up.

Ctrl C to copy the image from wherever (finder, safari, preview, etc),
Ctrl V to paste the image in the text field.
you can open Finder, navigate to the file and drag it into the message window.
There was never a camera icon in the public Messages beta release.
    advanced options:
you can also hit shift+control+command+4 and you will get cross hairs that you can drag across the screen to take a screen grab. this will copy to the clipboard and you can paste it into messages and send it. holding down shift, option, or space bar lets you adjust the area you are taking a screen shot of before you let go of the mouse click
shift+control+command+4 then hit space will let you take a picture of an application window, it'll save it to your clipboard and you can paste it into the text box of Messages.

  • Question mark over imovie icon

Has anyone tried to open iMovie only to have a question mark pop up over their icon?  I cannot open my iMovie...getting nervous.

Hello, I have a question mark on the dock where once were icons which were not opening for
iphoto and system preferences. If I
Install it from your iLife or computer's original disk, using Pacifist if needed, and then run the latest applicable iPhoto updater.
will it erase any photos I have on my computer?
I can't use Time Machine because I can't open System Preferences.

  • How to see rolling time marker in imovie 10?

In iMovie 9, when i was in a clip, there was a rolling timestamp for whereever the play bar thingie is.
Now I dont see that anywhere in imovie 10.
This was a REALLY useful feature to me!!! How can I get it back?

If the time display is the only problem you have then I would persevere with iMovie 10.
[ If you ever switch to FCP in the future (far from free of course) you will get it back together with many new powerful capabilities. ]

  • Can I add charter marks after iMovie and iDVD

a few years ago I transfered old 16mm to my DV camcorder and then into iMovie and iDVD.
I was looking at one of them for a family reunion and on one of the DVD's I somehow forgot to put in the last 3 chapter stops.
Is there an easy way of redoing the DVD and adding the 3 chapter stops ?
I made several color and lighting adjustments to them and i did not keep anything on the hard drive as I did two B/U's of them.
    Thanks
    Greg

  • What is this blue mark in iMove titles?

I have no idea how it got there, and I know I can copy or delete, but what is its function?

    Hi MissC.
This is a marker. You can use it to mark a place on the timeline where you want to add another clip, audio, effect or just trim. It is just a visual cue and you add them to the time line by pressing the M key or from the Mark menu.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I add chapter markers in iMovie 11?

On the previous version of iMovie I used chapter markers frequently, but cannot find them on iMovie 11.  Do they exist?  And if so, how can I access that feature?

iMovie version 10 (newest version) doesn't have a chapter marker feature.
iMovie version 9 is still installed and is in your Applications folder.

  • Capture recorded tv programs on my sky+ with imovie

    Hi
I have a sky+ (pvr) box which has a function to allow a dvd recorder to record programs on it's hard drive. From what I can see the box simply plays them for the dvd recorder to record.
My question is this - is it possible to wire a sky+ box to my mac to record the program to my hard drive to the import into imovie?
I would have to use an RF cable so any advice on necessary hardware would good too.
    Hope you can help!
    Mark

I believe iMovie only supports direct importing of video via Firewire from a camera capable of machine control from that output. I think you would have to capture the video from your sky thing, with something like Snapz Pro, then convert it to a compatible format for iMovie, but by that time, you may not need to import it into iMovie if your intention is to simply capture the video for viewing on your Mac.

  • Any iMovie

I recently updated my Mac book pro by installing the OS X Mavericks. Now everytime I open up my iMovie, it works for about 5 minutes and then crashes. I currently have iMovie 8.0.6. I went into the app store to update it to a different version, but it says I have no updates available. I would rather not spend any money on the iMovie '11 as it has bad reviews and iMovie isn't a super great app, but it is what I have. Help?

Hi! I updated to Mavericks as well and Had iMovie 8.0.6 that was working very well until I did the Mavericks update...now it keeps closing. I updated to the most recent Imovie11 but my problem is that with IMovie 11 I cant share to iDVD to make the DVD's and I can't place chapter marker in iMovie like i used to be in the 8.0.6 version...anyone can help! Its ridiculous that I could do everything I needed without a problem and now I updated and can't make my movie making-dvd burning work !!! very frustrating !

  • Beatmapping madness

I'm presuming there's an easy fix for this...
Made some tempo changes so far in a project, and I'd like to use the beatmapping function to snap a marker I've made to a downbeat. Works fine, but with the small annoyance of erasing every tempo event in the entire project.
    Any way of beatmapping non-destructively?

That's the way Beat mapping works: it maps an event (MIDI note, marker, transient) to a beat by creating a tempo change at the previous mapped beat. Since you haven't mapped any beat yet, it just changes the tempo of your song, wiping out all your tempo changes.
You want to protect your previous tempo changes by "setting" a beat where you want to create the tempo change. You "set" a beat by single-clicking it in the Beat Mapping global track.
You can then map your marker to a beat, and Logic will create a tempo change at the position of the previously set beat. All tempo changes occuring before the last set beat are now protected.

  • Making a 300 image "movie"

My project is to make a DVD containing 300+ still images (from a digital camera) with timed music with 4 chapters. I'm using iMovie 09 and iDVD 09. I know iDVD can do slide shows but I have too many stills. I authored the show in iMovie 09 but when I get near 100 stills (with transitions, Ken Burns & other effects) in the project, iMovie gets a little unstable, slows down and sometimes crashes from writing too many "commands" to the "assembly file" (for lack of better words). So I make 4 separate iMovies and it stays very stable. I want the entire show to "play all" AND want to be able to pick the 4 chapters from a DVD sub-menu.
If I "share" the iMovies to "large media browser", I can import them into iDVD but it won't play all 4 in sequence as one show. I can drop each iMovie into a 4 cell iDVD "slide show" and they can play fine but I have no chapters and no ability to "PAUSE" or "FAST FORWARD". The image quality is great going from iMovie - share to (large) browser - import to DVD - and author using "High Quality" setting for the 70 minute show.
So to get chapters, I exported the 4 individual iMovies to a QT container using AIC (960x540). Then I re-import them into a new iMovie project, place them in sequence and place my chapter markers. ( I don't own QT Pro.) This will "sew them together" to one big movie with markers. Then send it direct to new iDVD project, set up my chapter sub-menu and burn a disc. The image quality is much degraded and noticeably poorer when the DVD is played. I tried exporting the 4 mini-movies using H.264 "Best Quality" codec and I get the same thing - poor image quality. .dv export wouldn't be any better, I'm thinking.
Took weeks to make the 4 individual iMovies, so I can't start over in iMovie (HD) 06, which I still own.
What am I doing wrong? I thought exporting and re-importing would be close to "loss free". Would you suggest doing my "sewing" and chapter marking in iMovie 06 and send it to iDVD from there? Does iMovie 09 drop alternate scans when exporting to QT?
Again, sending one of the mini-movies to media browser for iDVD and the images look great even when I use "Best Performance" instead of "High Quality". Export and re-import in iMovie 09 and it looks "crummy" (technical term for an expletive). Also noticed a little drop in audio volume in the movie compared to the menu music volume. Is this an expected result of my double path process?
TIA for your expert suggestion of how to do this. Thanks

.. QUESTION: When does iMovie 09 drop alternate scan lines? At ALL exporting? (Even to QT?)
    it drops..
    • NOT on import = all clips in Events contain 100% quality, whatever you do in Projects..
    • NOT if you use speed, dissolve or fade ONLY in a Project
    • ALLWAYS, if you use any OTHER 'effect' (e.g. page curl, a map, a background, any title), on ANY clip in the Project.. therefor on any export setting
the intended workflow is, you shouldn't export manually, but Share to MediaBrowser (=which creates a 540/h264file.. ), which appears in the Media/iM tab in iDVD.. you've tried that way?
    did I mention my suade .. ?
    consider:
    • iDVD creates videoDVD, which has - by standards - 720x480.. a fraction of your original pics and what your Mac's screen offer..
    • watching such a disk on a computer or HiDef-flatscreen in 'fullscreen mode' means, each pixel gets zoomed by some factor of up to 4 .. => 'blocky', pixelated look.
    • for finally judging pic quality, you should use a 'tube'/CRT TV ..

  • Really wierd problem! HELP!

Today I restarted my mac because I had just installed a new version of quicktime.
But when it rebooted everything was wrong. The custom background I had was replaced with the standard apple one. All of the icons in the status bar had been reset to default (eg. I had the time set to display seconds, but now it doesn't. And when I go into preferences to change it back it doesn't work).
The dock has gone back to default and has a question mark for iMovie. When I go into preferences to change something like the background, it doesn't work. It remains the same. Also there are no longer any startup items listed. But there were before.
Mail is asking me to set up an account when I already have 2 accounts set up. iTunes displayed a licence agreement on launch. Loads of other apps have been reset.
But what's even more weird is that all my prefences, applications, files, folders, everything are still there, un-touched. All as they were before the restart.
I've tried repairing permissions and the same file pops up. cd9660.fs. It changes the permissions everytime, but it never seems to work.
I've also tried doing a disk repair. That says there is an incorrect file count everytime, but never seems to work when it trys to fix it.
    What do I do next?
    Tom

    Hi Tom
You have several unconnected things going on here.
First, the case of the missing user files. Did you, at any point, rename your home folder (the folder with the house icon)? See here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107854
Second, the message about the cd9660 permissions in Repair Permissions can be safely ignored. See here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107298
Third, the incorrect file count. Presumably you ran Disk Utility from your installation disk? Have you tried running DiskWarrior - if not, I thoroughly recommend it.
But first, restore your home folder as specified in the first step.

  • Importing footage from iPhoto 11

I shot quite some footage during my holidays in New York, using my digital Lumix DMC-GF1. When I import it in iPhoto, the timestamp of the clips is displayed correctly.
I am now composing a movie of it, using iMovie. So in the iMovie Event Library I browse to the shots I want to use and pull them in the project.
However: now I have found out, when I put a title on some shots which displays the time, that there is a 1 hour difference with the footage which was imported in iPhoto.
Is this time lapse a known bug?
I can't seem to find a way to manually change the time mark in iMovie. Someone cane show me the way?
    Thanks!

To anwser the two questions you asked-
    1.  How can we delete the entire import and start over? : You may select all media in Elements Organizer grid (which he imported from iPhoto) and hit Delete key
    2.  What is the correct way to move these images into the elements organizer? : The correct way is what he already did. Actually the folder naming convention is same as that of iPhoto. If you see the package contents of iPhoto Library, these folders can be seen there as well. When importing in Elements Organizer, it creates a copy of the iPhoto folder structure and then imports in the catalog.
    Thanks
