SnapManager For exchange - backup failing due to VSS snapshot timeout

Hello, We back up an exchagne 2010 DAG with SnapManager for exchange running on VMware. Recently we've been encountering issues where the backup will fail and entries similar to the following are logged in the system log.The volumes are LUNs mounted with SnapDrive. The issues are being caused by a VSS snapshot timeout. I am new to SnapManager and NetApp in general, i am the exchange admin that took over management of an existing environment. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this? Thank You!  Log Name: System

Hi Mike,Welcome to the NetApp community! I suggest opening a case with NetApp support. Could you please provide the following information: Windows OS version, i.e. Windows 2008 R2 SP1 / Windows 2012SnapDrive version, i.e. SnapDrive 7.1.1SME version, i.e. SME 7.1Are the LUNs RDMs or mapped via iSCSI from inside the guest?Does the backup fail every time or sporadically? Is this an existing backup job that used to work fine before? If yes, did someone perform any changes (software installation, patch/hotfix installation due to MS patch day)Best regardsDirk

I don't know what you have.
I don't know what you do.
I don't know what you see.
It is really, Really, REALLY difficult to fix a problem that can not be seen.
use COPY & PASTE so we can see what you do & how Oracle responds.
do as below so we can know complete Oracle version & OS name.
Post via COPY & PASTE complete results of
    SELECT * from v$version;

  • ICloud backups failing due to Safari bookmarks DB being locked

iCloud backups are failing to complete on my iPhone 4 (CDMA), iOS 5.0.1.  I successfully completed a backup on November 9, but haven't been able to get a backup to complete since then.  When I manually invoke the "Back Up Now" function, it starts backing up, then says "There was a problem completing the backup.  Please try again later."
Looking in the console logs (below), it appears the problem is that the Safari bookmarks DB is locked (corrupted?).  Indeed, I am unable to add additional bookmarks in Safari, I get the message: "Bookmarks are being synced.  Please add the bookmark once syncing has completed."
I've tried restarting the iPhone to no avail; I've also looked at Apple's iCloud backup troubleshooting doc, and none of the cases there seemed to match this problem.
Any suggestions ar every much appreciated!
Here is what the iPhone console says:

Had same problem, the solution lies with having your original apple ID associated email address "verified".
I may not have all the steps down correctly, but open your apple ID account manager and go to the your listing for email and "verify" the email address.  This association then seems to allow the use of your email address when you are trying to set up this new apple ID that they are requiring for iCloud.
Be aware that this new apple ID has a far reach and apparently cannot be undone, that is you can't change the name, characters, numbers or whatever you have for an email address that becomes your apple ID---even if you can no longer use the email address to receive email.
    Lots of luck.
I have been trying to get the iCloud features to work for over a week now, including a visit to a genius bar, and still not fully functioning.

  • 10.5.8 Time Machine  Backup Failed Due to Cookie Not Matching?

Been using Time Machine with no problems with 10.5.6 and 10.5.8, but have first problems since 10.5.8. After my iMac wakes from sleep, sometimes I get the error message that the external USB drive that I'm using for Time Machine was removed incorrectly, which is not correct. If I do not get this message and everything looks okay, the next Time Machine backup normally fails and if I check the logging in the widget it tells me that backup failed because the cookie didn't match and it may not be the correct drive. If I restart my iMac, Time Machine works again without problem until the next sleep. Before installing 10.5.8 Time Machine was perfect! Any ideas anyone?

    Hi again:
Not really. A restart can be therapeutic at times as a lot of things are reset. I have worked with computers for over 50 years and there are still some things that happen that defy logical explanation!
Trashing a preference file sometimes helps things. A corrupt preference file (rare, but it happens) can cause all sorts of odd behavior.

  • New Desktop Manager for Mac - backup fails

Each time I try to back up my Curve to my Mac, it fails when backing up "RMS Databases". I have to shutdown the Curve and restart it after each attempt. I'm currently running version 4.5.0.160 (I see there is a newer version, but can't install till I get a good backup).
Has anyone got it to back up a Curve?
    Thanks,
    Des

Hm.. that is weird. I can backup my "RMS Databases" on my Bold, when I click on Backup, and then choose "Selected data", and check only "RMS Databases".. I'm not sure what that database is, but if it shows that it has 0 records, then you might not have to worry about it.
When you do a full backup, does it say "Backup data completed" though? It would say this at the bottom of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager window.... if it did, then it probably means it backed up everything except that database.
You can confirm by doing a backup, and choose "Selected data", and then check all the databases, except for "RMS Databases"

  • Backup failed due to lack of space

Hi Folks - hoping this is an easy question, i have been a happy Time Capsule users for well over a year now - never really had to touch it - today its run out of space - I just now have to many files, movies, photo's etc - the TC is 500GB - can I simply add a 1GB external USB drive and use that as my TC backup drive in place of the 500GB internal?

  • Time machine error - backup fails due to sparsebundle already in use

Since upgrading, Time machine reports backup error:
    TIme Machine Error
The backup disk image ...sparsebundle is already in use.
    Any thoughts?

Thanks russ. After the initial upgrade to Mt Lion, no backups have been made. Every attempt reports the sparsebundle error. I recently updated to 10.8.1 and a whole new set of problems have shown up which is having me question the wisdom of continuing to invest in Apple product.
I have decided to pack it in with regard to the timecapsule product, as it is just too unreliable, and certainly not worth the continued time and effort it has been taking to try and get it to work. I have instead gone with an online backup service, Crashplan. I have the backup service I am seeing and I am no longer frittering away valuable time on something that ought to just work.
    Problem solved.

  • Time Machine Backup fails after Restore

Had my 500GB HD on my iMac fail. After being replaced by Apple, I performed a restore from 1TB time machine backup. After this was done, I set time machine back up to back up to this 1TB drive. I want it to append to the previous backups. However, the backup fails due to "backup is too large for the backup volume". It doesn't seem to want to append to previous backups but thinks this is an entirely new backup, which I guess is mostly true. I suspect this has to do with UUIDs of the new and old drives, but I'm not sure how to correct it (I'd prefer not to just wipe the backup disk and start over). I migrated backups before from one extenal HD to another but can't remember what I did... If anyone has steps to fix this, let me know em. Thanks.

yes, that's correct. TM will make a full backup after a full system restore on a new hard drive because the UUIDs of the new drive is different from the old one.
you may try the following hack to get around it

But I make no promises about how well it works.

    Description:
The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer (Instance 42916d80-36c1-4f73-86d0-596d30226349) failed with error 80070020 when preparing for a backup.
The backup Application - Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 – states, this error
Snapshot provider error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
Writer Name: Exchange Server, Writer ID: {76FE1AC4-15F7-4BCD-987E-8E1ACB462FB7}, Last error: The VSS Writer failed, but the operation can be retried (0x800423f3), State: Stable (1).
    Symatec suggests within http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH184095
to restart the MS Exchange Replication Service – BUT the mentioned eventID
8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
So my questions to the board are:
    * Does anyone is facing similar issues?
    * Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
    -          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
aren´t removed in a proper manner?
What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
    Any suggestion is welcome!

    Hi Lenora,
I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
those things i´ve all tried now:
    - Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    All those attempts failed.
But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
Backups are working again on all DBs!
    THX for your replys.
    Best regards
    Markus
