Snapping in AE CC

Hi there,
Maybe I'm just being dense and I'm missing something obvious...
I just updated to AE CC and I'm trying to use the new snapping feature in the Comp window. However, any time I use cmd+drag to try to snap one layer to another I get an error message saying:
"After Effects error: unable to invert matrix. (17::45)"
I've tried enabling the "Snapping" checkbox, too, but that only inverts the behaviour. (In other words, trying to click and drag a layer in the comp window *without* using the command modifier triggers the error. Once the error pops up, I have to click OK numerous times before it goes away. Most perplexing.
The problem is happening on any layer I try - including imported Illustrator files.
I'm working on a Mac Pro dual quad core, 32GB RAM, Mac OS X Mountain Lion.

Wow, it does indeed work once you've precomped anything that's at 0% scale. I sometimes organize my comps into opening, middle, end, kind of thing, so once I did all that, the snapping works beautifully again Thanks for pointing this out, Todd. It's been bugging me for a while and like some users, I've gotten by for a long time without snapping, but it's invaluable to snap the anchor point and that's been a huge hassle until today.

Vista X64 Drive Management Snap-In Error with SD Cards

I have someone with an W700, 2752-3KG, running Vista X64, raid 1 configuration with factory image. The system also has a VM with XPP X86 in case it proves relevant.
Everything works like a dream, except for one thing which has got us completely stumped. When an SD card is inserted it is recognized as new hardware as expected. There is no autorun, i.e. Open folder / play music window, as this was disabled when the VM was set up. In drive management the SD card will be shown, but alas not assigned a drive letter. Any attempt to assign a drive letter results in the following message; (translated from German to English using translate.google.com)
"The operation could not be completed because the view
of the Disk Management snap-ins is not current. Refresh your view with the
update task. If the problem persists, close the Disk Management snap-in, and
then restart the Disk Management snap-in or the computer."

The usual routine of updating / rolling back of drivers, uninstalling the hardware etc. etc has been tried to no avail.
The SD cards work fine on other TPs including W700s with Vista X64, X86 and XPP X86, they also work fine on this system when using an USB card reader
What hasn't been tried is running a recovery to another hdd. As the system is used daily this would mean blowing part of a weekend. And if a weekend is going to be partly blown, then I'd rather blow it completely and reinstall everything from scratch which would be a shame because, as previously stated, everything else is running 110%.
Has anyone experienced similar? Any ideas? I've searched MS thoroughly without finding anything

You may want to try a few different SD cards, there are apparently some which do not play well with Vista.
Personally I haven't had any issues with a 2GB SanDisk SD card running as ReadyBoost in an X61 under Vista Ultimate x64.

Stretching image to snap to preestablished paths or guides.

Hi, everyone.
I have an important task at hand and don't know how to do it in Photoshop. I hope my explanation will make sense. Here is my situation:
I have an existing image that I must stretch (using whatever tools are best for this) so that this image assumes the shape or contour of some pre-existing guides I will scan into Photoshop. Just imagine, for the sake of simplicity, that I have an image with 6 circles. The circles are orange inside and red outside. This image has been brought into Photoshop with a digital camera. I also have oval or elliptical contours on a printed book that I must scan and convert to a path or guides. The oval or elliptical contours are also 6 in number and laid side by side just like the circles. Here are the questions I have:
1. What is the best way to bring these elliptical shapes into Photoshop ? How can I transform them into guides or paths so that I can stretch the circles and have them snap to the elliptical guides to match their shape ?
2. Can an image snap to a guide located on a separate layer ? In other words, if I place the scanned elliptical shapes on a different layer, will I be able to stretch the circles so that they snap to these elliptical guides ?
3. As I stretch the circles to transform them into ellipses I need the transition from borders between the circles (orange) and background (red) to maintain their appearance (the transition is a somewhat smooth graduation and not a harsh one. What is the best tool for this job ?
4. I need the elliptical shapes to be connected but also individually manipulated. In other words, if necessary I need to be able to scale all elliptical shapes together so each maintains its proportion to all others. However, I also need to be able to scale individual ellipses while others adjust. In case I increase the width of ellipse 2 I need ellipse 1 and 3 to decreased their widths to accommodate this change. I hope this makes sense.
I would appreciate it if you could share your experience and suggest what you think is the best way to address this task.

Instead of trying to crop and use the Ken Burn's effect. Have you tried to choose the "Fit" option? Or you can try this option will might allow you to export it out as a "landscape" image which hopefully will be what you're looking for.
Click the crop button and then click the button that says “Allow Black.” Now you can adjust the size and position of the green box to choose the new dimensions of your video.
To finish up, choose Export movie. HD 720p (1280 x 720) will preserve the original quality as much as possible. If that works, you can try to re import the video back into iMovie and see if that solves the problem. Hopefully that works.

How to change default DC that AD snap-in connects to

I installed RSAT tools on a Windows 7 VM. Every time I open Active Directory it connects to the DC that is geographically the farthest away -- across the country!!! MAKES SOOOOOOOOO MUCH SENSE. How can I configure the snap-in to connect to something more
practical? Like the DC on the same network as the RSAT management computer?? Getting livid by the fact I need to google simple things like this lately...........

You need to define sites and subnets in Active Directory to control the selection of DCs for authentication, replication and the DC being automatically used by ADUC.

Adobe Photoshop Touch: Disable snapping in when moving pictures and text

For either importing images or adding text, there's a magnet icon with a checkmark in the options box; tap it to disable snapping.

I have a basic idea on statspack, and implementing this first time, looking for your help to generate statspack report.
scenario is this :-
we have to do a performance testing during bulk loading which happens daily at night for 1 hour.
i have sheduled a job to generate snaps on every interval of 15 min say :-

Snap is a snap. A snapshot of database status at a given point in time. Statspack was designed to help DBA's diagnose the performance problems of a database during a particular interval of time by recording what all went on with the database.
If you are trying to analyze the database using only one snap, you will never get the correct picture.
Lets say in your case, you generate the report s_1 only which is before load. How will you diagnose the problem that happened after this snap?

We have implemented 2LIS_03_BX for Initial stock( Till day) and 2LIS_03_BF for movements ( from today).
So we are not loading any past movements.we are interested only in movements from today.
Now, the clients wants to see the weekly(starting from current week) snap shot of stock quantities and values(Like total inventory quantities and Values). For this scenario, 2LIS_03_BX and 2lis_03_BF are suffiecient if i read the material value from the MBEW table in update rule? or do i need to implement 2LIS_03_UM as well?...If i use 2LIS_03_UM will satisfy my requirement?.

Hi Mummaneni,
Based on your client requirement, loading data from BF after initializing stock using BX would be sufficient to view your stock qty for each day provided you load the data daily.
Also ensure you do the marker update for BX and no marker update for initialized BF.
You can get your MAP values against your Material from MBEW table which BF does not bring. There is a separate datasource that provides MAP values against Material...otherwise you could simply enhance BF with a new field. BF normally provides you the unit and total purchase value of the goods.
UM is used to get the revaluations at cost that may happen from time to time. It is similar to the sales price revaluations that you find in Retail based industries which frequently require use of 2LIS_40_REVAL datasource.
If it suits your requirement to get the price changes at cost, you may very well get BF data too...it might be necessary, I would say. Also do a no marker update for BF initialized update for the first time incase you have some historical from R/3.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

How do I set up a knob with fixed snap-to points on a logorithmic scale?

My question is pretty simple, but after rooting around in the knob/gauge proteries I can't seem to figure out how to do what I'd like:
I would like a simple knob type control with 4 possible values: 0.0125,0.125,1.25,12.5
I'd like them evenly spaced and I want the knob to only snap to one of these four values
I can at least get it to the point of having four values on there by placing arbitrary markers (scale->add marker), but I can't figure out how to get it to snap to these, or even if this is the bets way to go about it.

All of the files are going into the same zip file but I want them visually in the space that I put them and not at the bottom of the snap to grid folder location they are looking like. I am trying to drag and drop files in groups so that I can group them for now, but image files always do their own "sort by" when I drag them from my web pages. Links don't do it though. I tried resetting the folder, and deleting the DS files. No luck.

How can I remove snap do

My computer (running windows) and browser has been infected by Snapdo and it is getting worse. Until now I have been able to fix it via the options menu in Firefox and the facility to reset the browser, but no snap do has been developed so that it prevents all menus from showing, which means this method is no longer available. I just downloaded Firefox again from your site as another way of solving the problem,
but it does not help -- Snapdo is still there.
I have also googled for advise about how to solve the problem, but all suggestions are either ineffective or complicated, plus how can I trust them?
I am also deeply worried why this can continue, and in particular why the virus protection software that we (my employer) is paying for is not able to prevent this. It seems the overall system is inherently grossly insecure, and that the only thing I can do is to switch to Linux. However this would impose a number of annoying limitations.
I would be very grateful for advise about how to remove Snapdo and prevent it from coming back. More importantly, since this problem seems to be widespread, I suggest it would be most useful if your website could provide advise in this respect, or (even better) if you could provide a protection against this malware directly in your software.

Snap. do typically gets on computers when the user installs free software or add-ons that had bundled this browser hijacker into their installer package.
The first thing to do it to is to get rid of what installed Snap. do to begin with. Otherwise it is liable to keep reinstalling the search engine and / or toolbar in your web browsers after you get rid of it from the web browsers. <br />

How do I get mail to stop snapping back to top of inbox after moving a message

My organization provides iPads to some employees to assist them in working remotely. Most people updated their devices to ios7 on the day of release, but I waited so we could compare functionality. I'm glad I did, as there have been a few things that we've had to figure out for our users. However, there is one we can't find the answer for. Most of our users make use of email extensively, and it has for the most part worked great on the iPads. But here is the problem now: a user goes into their inbox which has hundreds of messages, so they decide to clean it up a bit. They scroll down to some of their old messages, and move the message to a folder. That's works fine. However, when the screen goes back to the inbox, it snaps back to the top, rather than going back to the position in their inbox where they last were. Thus they need to scroll down again. When I first saw this, I assumed that it didn't work prior to ios7. However, I checked on my iPad (not on ios7 yet) and the inbox does not snap back to the top, but rather remembers where I last was in the list of messages. Some of users are finding this very annoying, as they are wasting time scrolling through their inbox.
Anyone got a fix for this?

Hi BGreg - Thanks for responding. That option is definitely not checked- which is why this is so mysterious to me.
The other thing that might be a clue is that, as I type an email, drafts of that email show up in my In box. Why multiple versions of the draft show up in my In box (rather than a single version in Drafts folder) is a mystery. It means that I have dozens of versions of long emails (each version reflecting a longer stage of completion) clogging up my In box.

Writing a simple snap to grid function is pretty easy, and
may work well for
what you need. Essentially, you just test the _xmouse and
_ymouse using mod,
if mousePos % snapSetting == 0, then you know you're on a
grid point.

Is there a way to restrict handles when snapping like older versions of illustrator?

In previous versions of illustrator, when you snapped to grid the handles would snap as well. This made making complicated precise line work easier and faster. I noticed in the October update that the removal of this function is being touted as an upgrade/feature??
"When snapping is turned on, your anchor points and handles (direction lines) align to your choice of pixel, grid, or point. However, handles snapping to the grid restricts the freedom with which you draw. In the 2014 release of Illustrator CC, whatever you choose to snap to, handles are completely unrestricted. When handles are not subject to being snapped to a grid, you have much finer control over drawing and editing workflows."
...that handle restriction was actually very, very useful to me. Any way to get that back/toggle it on and off? Without having to downgrade to older versions of illustrator?

The answer is not yet. Most people are hoping that the engineers will introduce a toggle to return the old behavior as an option but don't hold your breath. If you absolutely need it you will have to revert to an earlier version.

Is there a way of placing images in the timeline without having them snap to frames??

I'm basically trying to make a short movie for a friend that involves stills that flick back and forth but i need them to sync to the music i have to go with it. Clearly, the musics beat won't sit frame perfect so in order to get the effect i want, i assume there must be a function that would allow me to freely place images wherever i wish..... no??
Sadly, my logic kind of dictates that this won't be possible but if it's not, how the hell do people get images to change on beat with music etc?? Do they adjust the music to make it fit in with frames or what??

I didn't see anyone mention the Sequence> Snap toggle. With that on, it will snap to things you may not want it to, like the CTI, other clips, and markers. Of course, it will still be snapping to the fame rate for a given sequence, but Steven already made a fine suggestion for how to imporve accuracy there. He's also right that you don't need to be mathematically correct in your alignment, just intuitively.
If it helps, here's an old trick for beat-matching. Play the audio, and with your best drummer's skillz, hit M on the keyboard each time you hear (feel?) the beat you want to sync to. M is the default shortcut for 'Marker', so when you're done you should have a marker near each beat which you can tweak by hand as needed. It may take a few tries to get it right, but it's a lot of fun.
You can then turn the snap toggle 'on' (if it's not already) and drop your images in to align up with the corresponding markers. Make sure you have the still image duration set to the right length (probably err on the long side to avoid gaps) before you import your imahes or it will get confusing.
In your case, you're flipping back and forth between just two images, so after setting up the markers where you want, I might put one image in v1 and one on v2, span them out to cover the whole audio you're matching to, and then use the razor tool. Or, better yet, use, shift M & cmd/ctrl K to make edits that correspond exactly to your markers. It will razor all the way through, but you can easily just trim the other tracks back out from the head afterwards because nothing will have moved. However you do it, the point is to razor out portions of v2 where v1 needs to show through and then delete them (don't ripple).
