Snapping open windows

Is there an option to "snap" 2 or more open windows so that they will both be resized to take up equal space on the entire desktop? I have to switch back and forth between multiple programs with a lot of copying and pasting.

I believe there are several "window" control utilities that you will find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

    Hi, after installing Adobe CC I tried opening Adobe Photoshop. This failed.
    I get the opening window where it says installing plugins searching etc, after which PS opens in full screen.
    Just moments after that there's a failure warning, no code number, only the warning that PS failed to open and PS will close.
    I tried downloading it for a second time, but this did'nt solve the problem.
    Befor the CC version I used a one year student version of Adobe CS6.
    What can I do?

    Regarding the Flash Player problem, disable Hardware Acceleration to circumvent driver incompatibilities.
    Regarding the Flash Pro installation problems, post in the Flash forums or http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup

  • I think there is a problem with the latest version of Firefox. When you minimize one window (doesn't matter how many tabs) on Mac, it automatically minimizes all of the other open windows. This never used to happen.

    Whenever you have multiple windows open - say one is your Gmail account and the other is a bunch of pages you're using at work - and then you go to minimize the window with Gmail but intend to continue working on the other open windows. Using Command-M (the minimize shortcut for Macs) unfortunately now sends all open windows to the minimize bar in the lower right. Which means - every time I go to look at Gmail, then put it away, I have to reclick to open all of the other windows I was working in. Can this be fixed? It never used to happen.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox

    Because OS X 10.4* does not have what is needed by Firefox 4.0 and newer.
    Linux users are in a similar boat also as they need certain package versions within the last few years as LTS distros (with outdated packages from 4+ years ago) like CentOS is a bit screwed on newer applications like Firefox 4.0. By your logic Mozilla should also support Linux packages from 10 years ago also which would be a really ridiculous thing to do.
    I think only the 64-bit Windows Vista and Windows 7 is really supported or will be rather when it comes to 64-bit builds (still not officially supported yet).
    Mozilla is still supporting Firefox 3.6 with updates, in which 3.6.16 can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Where did Close Tab and Close Window under the File tab go? I end up with all these open windows or exiting altogether.

    Under the File tab, I no longer see Close Tab or Close Window. Thus, I end up with a lot of open windows, because if I click File Exit, I'm logged out.

    You need to create a file userChrome.css in the chrome folder in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and paste the above posted code in the file.<br />
    You can use the ChromEdit Plus extension to make it easier to edit the file.
    You can access the profile folder via this button:
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    That code will cause all hidden menu entries to get visible all the time, so you can use the mouse to open the menus and do not need to use the keyboard.

  • Group open windows in tabs

    I am getting a very cluttered desktop with lots of terminal windows open and lots of Preview documents open as I am programming and looking up code in manuals and references.
    Is there any app out there that groups my open windows in tabs. Like all terminal windows are grouped in one window with tabs, all preview windows are grouped in one window with tabs,...
    This way I could have both windows next to each other and simply switch documents.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • Tabs and window restore only restored one of many open windows from last session. I hate this!!

    Tab and window restoration has FAILED after version 13.01 installation! Out of 7 windows open with multiple tabs, only ONE BROWSER WINDOW OPENED with NO reference to what happened to the normal session that had been in the previous version of FF. I've read about this and I DON'T LIKE IT. It is reverse engineering. WHY would you scrap someone's research for the sake of making your browser open more quickly? DAMMIT MAN I don't have time to study a browser. I may not endure this version! I don't see a way out of this ff trap, other than go to previous version which is always a bitch. Dammit!

    You need to use "Firefox/File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit") to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the title bar to close Firefox with all open windows at once. Otherwise only the last closed window will be restored. If this did happen then check History > Recently Closed Windows to see if any are listed (default is 3).

  • Firefox crashes when closing open windows

    Hi
    Since updating to the new Firefox 18.0.1 every time I try to close a few open windows Firefox crashes. I would be reading my mail and after having about 10 open windows I go and check on the X to close the windows. I can close about five to seven of them with no problem but when I have about three of them left Firefox crashes. It is very annoying. I used the Firefox Safe Mode feature and this problem does not happen while in Safe Mode. I don't know what the next step is to fix this problem. Could you please help. Thank you

    Hello,
    Thanks for responding back. Norton is to release an update shortly to fix this crashing issue.
    Have a nice day!

  • I cannot get the info bar (not the dock) on the top of my screen to permanently appear without my having to put the cursor on top of screen. Then it appears. Don't even know what that is called...above the open window.

    How do I get the area above the open window to display information (as in closing that specific window, "Safari  File Edit View History, etc.) without having to attempt to put the cursor on it to give me that info? I am not referring to the dock which is at the bottom of my screen. Although,It too, is not  visible.
    They were both visible before today.
    Sorry, but I have no clue as to what this topic should be.

    When you do Safari to it's maximum size on the screen (with the two little arrows in the Safari top menu bar on the right), Safari will take the whole screen including the top Apple menubar. In that menubar is the same set of little arrows to bring Safari back to it's previous size (which you can set by moving it's borders), you bring the Apple menubar in sight by moving the mousepointer to the top of the screen, when you do not want to loose that apple menubar, you can set Safari as bog as you can by moving its borders but just until below the apple menubar. Don't touch the little arrows in Safari menubar.

  • My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).  The key behaves the same for the laptop keyboard and for an external Apple keyboard?  This just started in last week after 6 months of use

    My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).
    The left shift key behaves the same on the laptop keyboard and on an external Apple keyboard.
    This just started in last week after 6 months of use.  The right shift key and other keys on the keyboard all appear to work correctly.
    Suggestions greatly appreciated.

    I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support.  Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences.  Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
    A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key).  I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility.  The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
    Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.

  • Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."  Any thoughts, Thank you.

    Unable to open windows using boot camp.  Get message "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk."   I am using an Imac , Lion operating system, and Windows 7.  It worked a few days ago.  Any thoughts, Thank you.

    Note that nowhere in the Boot Camp instructions does it tell you to use Disk Utility to format the Windows partition. The Boot Camp Assistant program creates the partition & sets the +partition scheme info+ of the disk as appropriate for the Windows installer but the Windows installer itself is responsible for formatting the new partition with the appropriate +file system scheme+ (NTFS for Windows 7).
    If you follow the instructions in the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide to the letter you should have no problems installing Windows.

  • Need help with refreshing open window in new tab

    Hello all,
    First, all my other problems I've solved.  One last thing, being a newbie and trying things I've found on the net and them
    not working, I can use your help one last time.  My code has a Home page that peforms a Search (most of you have
    I am sure done this), and from that search submit a window opens in a new tab (browser tab) and has the results on
    it.
    That works fine.  What I'm having trouble with is being able to perform a new search and refreshing that open window
    with the new data.  Right now I am closing that window by clicking on the tab and then performing the search.
    While it works, it's not user friendly.
    So, I've tried the usual  mywindow=window.open("url.cfm"); and then trying to grab that handle to refresh, but to
    no avail.  Has anyone done this?
    Thanks!

    Here's an example of how you could do it.
    <script>
    function submitAndFocusTarget(form) {
      var win = window.open("", form.target);
      form.submit();
      win.focus();
    </script>
    <form action="index.cfm" target="mysearchwin" method="get" onsubmit="submitAndFocusTarget(this); return false;">
      <input type="text" name="search" value="" />
      <input type="submit" value="search" />
    </form>

  • Howto close all open windows?

    Hi,
    I am developing some kind of library, and I would like to close all open windows, dialogs, tooltips in the error case.
    The problem is I don't have control about the windows currently open, many are instantiated by plug-ins.
    Is there a way to get a list of all windows? This way I could go throw the list and simply call dispose() on all.
    Thank you in advance, Clemens

    One possible approach could be trying to track AWT event. I would try to get notified as each Component is added and maintained in a hashtable.
    getToolkit().addAWTEventListener (aWTEventListener, AWTEvent.COMPONENT_EVENT_MASK | AWTEvent.CONTAINER_EVENT_MASK);
    AWTEventListener  aWTEventListener = new AWTEventListener()
            public void eventDispatched (AWTEvent Event)
            // find the component from event source and record it.
    };

  • Open windows wont close

    Somehow I got myself into what should be an easily resolved problem, but I havn't been able to figure it out.
    I have the main Elements window open on a second monitor. It is so far open that the handle bar at the top of the screen
    that allows you to move the window around the screen is hidden behind the menu bar on my mac. The bottom of the open window is also below the
    bottom of the same computer screen.  The result is that I cannot close the active Elements window or move it to my primary window where I may be
    able to grab the top and reduce the size.   I can bring in the sides but that doesn't help close the window.
    I know I'm probably only one button away, but Which button?
    Thanks
    Rich

    Well, worst case you can always just Restore Workspace (under the Window menu).
    Your other option is to temporarily increase the resolution of your monitor so that the top of this window is displayed.
    Or you can temporarily decrease the resolution of your monitor so that all of the windows get smaller and rejigger into position, then reset your monitor to your regular resolution.

  • Find names of all open windows including other applications besides LabView VIs

    Hi All, I have researched this subject, i.e., to find names of all open windows including other applications besides LabView VIs, but found no solution. Could someone suggest a solution to this?  Thanks.

    Hi,
    Certainly! The Windows API Function Utilities (32-bit) for LabVIEW includes set of LabVIEW libraries (llb) with VIs that make calls to the Windows Application Programming Interface (API) for managing and controlling windows (minimize, maximize, move, resize, rename, close, and so on) including task list with names of windows application running. The Readme.doc contains information on running these VIs.
    Attached below is a zipped file with a VI that list the names of all opened windows.

  • Close all  open windows at same time

    Is there any way to close all open programs at once, rather than having to do them one at a time?

    I don't know of a way to close all open apps at the same time, but i do know of a way to close all open windows in a particular app at one time, ie: safari
    Hold down Option when you click on the red close button at the top of one of those windows, and it will close all windows *for that app*...but doing so doesn't necessarily quit the app.
    The only other thing i can think of you can do is hold down Command, Option, and Esc to get the Force Quit window to open, (or access it from the Apple menu at the top left corner) and then you can select one at a time all the apps and force quit them individually...it's still quicker than switching between each app individually..
