Server backup Faliure Wth failing with snapshot error
Hi Team ,
One of my VM guest Machine's backup job is getting failed again and again with snapshot error .
When I checked logs I can see Event Warning " VM disks consolidation failed " where currently there is no snapshot is available on this machine.
But When I manually run the snapshot by using by using quiesce Method and then again run backup Job from Symantec , Backup runs fine 7
We are using Symantec Netbackup 7.6.1 and My VM Machine is running on ESXi01 , VM version 9 , Guest OS MS Windo 2008 R2
Any Help Would be really appreciateHi,
DO THIS FIRST
a) Try to do a storage vMotion of that VM and delete the file which are left behind along with the VM folder (if any )
b) Take a VMware snapshot and after completion , Go for DELETE ALL --> This will update the snapshot records in the VMX file and snapshot configuration file with latest number which is unique while taking the snapshot as per the process.
DO THIS AFTERWARDS
a) STOP and set to manual service for Volume shadow copy ,VMware snapshot provider and Virtual Disk inside the Guest OS. Wait and Check for schedule backup. -

If I add even one table article (doesn't matter, I've tried different ones), I get the error above when I run the snapshot agent.
If I remove the table just added and rerun the snapshot agent, it succeeds with the message "A snapshot was not generated because no subscriptions needed initialization", so at least I don't have to reinitialize (thank goodness!).
Any ideas as to what might be causing this, and how I can add articles to my existing publication?
Thanks in advance for your help.Hi John V.Barone,
I’m writing to follow up with you on this post. Was the problem resolved after performing our action plan steps? If not, according to your error message, we need to verify if it is caused by replicating Meta Data corruption. You can check if there is a bad
row
in “sysarticles” (for a table) or “sysschemaarticles” (for a UDF) for which we do not have a corresponding “ObjectId” in sysobjects . If yes, delete
manually this row
from Published (sysarticles, sysschemaarticles, syssubscriptions) and Distribution DB (MSsubscriptions, sysschemaarticles,MSarticles).

Refresh Collection Snapshots Error ORA-12008 ORA-01555
Need some insight!
Ct is implementing R12.1.1 ASCP using existing 11.5.10 EBS as source.
In source EBS, when running Refresh Collection Snapshots (RCS) in COMPLETE mode, we encounter this error:
ORA-12008: error in materialized view refresh path
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 13 with name "_SYSSMU13$" too small
ORA-12008: error in materialized view refresh path
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 13 with name "_SYSSMU13$" too small
All the snapshot entities got refreshed successfully (in 5 minutes) but the Refresh Collection Snapshot request itself ends with ERROR (after 4 hrs).
Appreciate your input on this one.
Thanks,
JakeWelcome to the forums !
ORA-01555 is a common error condition. There are typically two solutions (or a combination of both) -
1. Increase rollback / undo tablespace size
2. Run your process when the database is not active (i.e. few or no updates/deletes/inserts etc).

Time Capsule local snapshot error (MTM FS server)
Hi
I found an error in the console log which happens every second.
It seems the Time Capsule causes this error:

If I disable the local snapshot: sudo tmutil disablelocal
The errors are gone..
But I've no idea why I get these errors.
I formatted my whole Time Capsule and startet from scratch but the same errors...
I working with Yosemite and the 2nd or 3nd generation of Time Capsule.
Any ideas on this?
I appreciate any help...Yosemite is actually not just buggy it is broken. The DNS is broken. After you restart the TC for the next few minutes yosemite can find it.. after that it is lost again.
Users have finally got so sick of the situation they have started hacking mDNSResponder back from 10.9.
See http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/
You will get error after error because Yosemite cannot find the server.. -

Windows is Scanning and repairing drive... (- Errors in Event Viewer)
Long post, please be patient... :)
I have a fairly new (purchased 8/2013) Lenovo ThinkPad T431s with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (updated from 8.0 -> 8.1). It has a very tricky error coming basically 8 / 10 boots:
Windows is Scanning and repairing drive...
Error details from Windows Event Viewer (a new similar error appears on every boot to event viewer):
A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984}.
A file on the volume is no longer reachable from its parent directory. The parent file reference number is 0x2000000000002. The name of the parent directory is "". The parent index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION". The file reference
number of the file that needs to be reconnected is 0x400000003db80. There may be additional files on the volume that also need to be reconnected to this parent directory.
What has been done 1st trying to fix that:
SSD disk has been changed (image from previous SSD copied back) ->
no solution, error remains
chkdsk /F /R -> no solution, error remains
SFC /scannow -> no solution, error remains
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth -> no solution, error remains after a few boots
TRIED using Windows 8.1 "Update & Recovery -> Refresh Your PC without affecting your files" -> Inserted the Lenovo "Operating System Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)" BUT Windows did not accept
that DVD claiming "The media inserted is not valid"... ???
Ended up calling Lenovo Support and they instructed me to order the Recovery DVD from
Lenovorecovery.com -> Unfortunatelly Windows does not recognice the DVD(s)...
mountvol returns:
\\?\Volume{4d337687-0033-42f7-8a8e-b6968b533cb3}\
(This is my C:\ drive where Windows installation resides)

\\?\Volume{33f0062f-0aff-4fd2-8402-1c7911d86897}\
*** NO MOUNT POINTS ***
Then running fsutil dirty query on each returns:

The chkdsk on the dirty volume
\\?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984}\ returned:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or
other shadow copy data.
A snapshot error occured while scanning this drive. Run an offline scan and fix.
Diskpart output on the same volume:

Partition 3 System 260 MB 1129 MB
Partition 4 Primary 146 GB 1389 MB
Partition 5 Recovery 350 MB 147 GB
Partition 6 Recovery 19 GB 148 GB
Questions:
1) Are my Partitions OK, haven't "touched" anything?
2) Excluded the dirty volume from boot checking with chkntfs /x
-> still the Error appears in Event viewer log (but Scanning is skipped/not shown anymore during the boot).
What is causing the error?
3) Why do I have three (3) recovery partitions? What has happened in the past days:
A) Lenovo on-site-Support changed the motherboard -> had no impact on the error (which I expected).
B) I found
instructions how to manually create USB Flash stick with a booting Custom (OEM) Recovery Image.
C) Booted with USB and performed "Refresh your PC without affecting your files."
D) Windows was refreshed but...
-->>
Still the error remains (Windows scanning and repairing drive \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984} on each and every boot.
1) Related Error in Event viewer (NTFS):
A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984}.
A file on the volume is no longer reachable from its parent directory. The parent file reference number is 0x2000000000002. The name of the parent directory is "". The parent index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION". The file reference number of the
file that needs to be reconnected is 0x400000003db80. There may be additional files on the volume that also need to be reconnected to this parent directory.
2) Related Error in Event viewer (NTFS - Microsoft Windows NTFS):
Volume \\?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984} (\Device\HarddiskVolume5) needs to be taken offline to perform a Full Chkdsk. Please run "CHKDSK /F" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:>" locally or remotely via
PowerShell.
-->>
Now Lenovo support is proposing a full re-install (to be performed by myself) of Windows as this is SW issue.
Summary:
- Refreshing my T431s with OEM Image does not help
- The error remains on \?\Volume{f62db2cf-efe4-4b55-a3f7-0e7db991a984} (\Device\HarddiskVolume5; Lenovo Recovery partition) OR at least Windows thinks so... -
Problem (?) with LVM snapshots since Feb 12 updates
After the update, I'm seeing some LVM snapshot errors during boot. In context:

Welcome to Arch Linux!
The number of errors varies between zero and three, the latter being the number of snapshots I have.
The corresponding info in the journal is:

Initially I missed the news to enable lvm-monitoring.service. I have since enabled the service, rebooted to another install of Arch which doesn't use LVM (all lvs are prevented from being activated with empty auto_activation_volume_list), and deleted and recreated the snapshots in case they had gotten borked. FWIW, the SSs now only exist for the purpose of troubleshooting this issue, so I'm not worried about their integrity.
I've done numerous boots and seen instances where both lvm-monitoring.service and dmeventd.service start, where both fail, and where one starts but the other fails. This doesn't seem to correspond with the occurence of the errors during boot. On my most recent boot both failed:

I made the suggested change to global_filter in lvm.conf, though I never had any problems booting; I just saw the occasional warning about fd0 and/or cdrom when running lvscan after boot, and figured it couldn't hurt.
And... I have no idea where to go from here.Hi,
I've had the same problem for a few months now and the computer has been rebooted many times. This time an endpoint engine has been updated so requires a reboot.
I've rebooted now and still don't see any updates for this windows 8 machines. On some of the W8 machines I have seen working, the updates don't appear in software centre, but when I go to view updates in programs and features, they do
appear there which is also a bit strange.
All the windows 7 machines work fine.

Automator bugs: freezing after Take Video Snapshot action
Hi there-
Just testing out some of my automator workflows, and it seems that some basic (built-in) automator actions no longer function under Mountain Lion.
Running the action "Take Video Snapshot" pops up a mini window that can take a user's photo. Running the action causes Automator to hang immediately after the action attempts to save the image.
Modifying the action's settings has no effect- take photo automatically drives automator right into freezing once the photo is snapped. Manually taking the photo causes the freeze to happen right when the user clicks 'Done'
Could someone please re-create and verify that this isn't isolated to my machine? I'd super appreciate it.
Getting frustrated with Automator since Lion- they keep breaking more and more Automator actions with each OS update, it seems.Having the same issue. I tried to get around it by tethering a camera in automator and using the 'Take Picture' action. But then you get a different error if you try to use the action more than once:
Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x4001d9c20> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x401042700>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class.
Called apple because these support threads seem to take forever, they directed me to https://developer.apple.com (after asking what manufacturer I got the program from...uh, you?). I have seen a lot of posts with the tethering error, not so many with our 'Take Video Snapshot' error, but I assure you that it is not unique to your computer!
Hope they catch autmator up with the new OS, not everyone uses it but those who do REALLY use it. -
