Snapshots Server at http://releng.archlinux.org/isos/ runs on LightTPD 1.4.29 and there is 1.4.30 already, which fixes few important security issues. http://www.lighttpd.net/download You should guys upgrade ;-)

Timeout expired error when inserting into a mirrored server

We have 3 SQL Server 2012 servers.
All 3 SQL Server has the same database, ie myDB.
In 2 of the servers (say server A and B), myDB is mirrored, and on the 3rd server myDb is NOT mirrored.
When the program calls a stored procedure to insert a record into a table in the database, on the mirrored servers (server A and B) sometimes it takes up to 7 seconds and gave an error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior
to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. This failure occured while attempting to connect to the Principle server." This doesn't happen all the time, but happens often enough throughout the day.
The 3rd server (that is NOT mirrored) never gives this Timout expired error.
Will mirrored server cause slowness in writing, thus causes the Timeout expired error ?

Since we can live with some missing data, I think we should use asynchronous mirroring instead of synchronous, do you agree ?
That may be an options, provided that you are on Enterprise Edition. As I recall, Standard Edition only has synchronhous mirroring.
There are caveats with asynchronous mirroring. One is data loss in case of a failover, which you say that you can live with. There may be more caveats, though. Unfortunately, since my role is more of a developer than a DBA, I'm not too well versed in
the details. Maybe someone else can fill in?
Can a firewall issue cause mirror latency, that in turn causes the delay in writing to the principal database ?
Firewalls and other network hiccups certainly can cause a latency.

Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)

It happened second time in a row. Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)
When the disk was found faulty, still unable to boot the OS from alternate disk, it says it still probe/look for other disk
Here are the console log when I tried to boot the OS

In such condition left out with only two options.
1) Remove the faulty disk physically and boot
(or)
2) Replace the faulty disk and boot it
Any way, I can disable the faulty disk in BIOS (or) booting from cd-rom and do something to avoid it?

You can't boot from systems earlier than that shipped with the computer. For example, early 2008 Mac Pros come with 10.5.1 and can't boot 10.5
Also you can't boot with a DVD that was shipped with a different model Mac.

Issue with Snapshot in Windows Server 2008 R2

So I am new in the company and the sever was setup as a differential drive and which I think is not a good setup for production environment. So my issue is that snapshot of the server is getting bigger and bigger on daily basis and it is eating my free disk
space a lot. In past one week my free disk space reduced from 100 GB to 90 GB. I am new in server world and still learning. I have no idea how to tackle this situation. Can someone give me any idea to stop the snapshots from consuming my hard drive?

How application know the Principal server down and connect to mirror server ?

I have setup the database mirroring for disaster recovery solution where we don't need the witness server for fail over.
But under high-availability mode, If the principal server fails, the mirror server automatically becomes the new principal server and recovers the principal database using a witness server. Now my question is how application server or client application knows
to connect the mirror server which is now the new principle server.
Do we need to handle any condition in connection string which is using in client application or any other way ?

How to move SSIS packges and its connection automatically on mirrored server

Hi I have setup mirroring on DB sql server 2012, somehow not using alwayson feature.
so in that case we have to make a plan by which way we can move ALL the ssis packages and changed it connection point.
like whereever ssis using serverA it can be chnaged to serverB without opening each and every package.

The Integration Services service is not a clustered or cluster-aware service, and does not support failover from one cluster node to another. In your environment, since the Database that hosts the packages are mirrored which means the packages need
to run on the principle server, you need to install SSIS on both principle server and mirror server. In reality, you can use localhost or symbol “.” for the ServerName property or ConnectionString property in each connection manager. In
this way, you don’t need to change the ServerName each time the failover occurs.

Restarting mirrored server/pausing resuming mirroring

Hi,
I want to know if restarting the mirrored server (standby server)will have any effect on mirroring configuration. Is it the same as pausing and resuming mirroring from principle server.
Or is it advisable that mirroring be paused from primary server before mirroring server (standby server) is restarted.

3 server farm, had the WFE go down, restored with old snapshot, use APP server settings to restore IIS?

All right.
So I have a 3 server DEV farm: WFE, APP, SQL
The WFE went down, and had to restore with a month-old snapshot after numerous configuration changes.
Files: Can I copy the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories to my WFE and get it running?
IIS: recreate sites based on APP server, pointing to copied over VirtualDirectories locations?
What else?

SharePoint does not support VM snapshots. It is a really, really bad idea and usually easier to just build a new farm member.
You can use PowerShell to restore IIS, e.g.:
$wa = Get-SPWebApplication http://webAppUrl
$wa.ProvisionGlobally()
But to be honest, it depends on what exactly you've lost, etc. Also like a really good idea to flush the Config Cache on the restored farm member.

Mirror server missing file.... does anyone check this stuff?

Seemed odd to me as libjpeg was updated to 7 several days ago.
pacman -Q libjpeg
libjpeg 6b-6
???? So extra is up to date but I still have an old libjpeg.
I live in Thailand and decided to use the Australian mirrors. I checked on the first server in my mirrorlist,
Server = ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/archlinux/$repo/os/i686, and saw that libjpeg is absent from Extra. Not even an old version, just totally missing!
Ok, the solution is simple.... use another mirror.
But clearly this is a pain is the a$$. How can one know which servers are reliable and up to date?
Does anyone check this stuff? Perhaps a script could be run that checks the contents of the mirrors against the main server, and posts the results on the Arch website where users can check?

About packages mirror server in Asia...

Dear all,
I found that there is only one server in Asia (Israel). Actually, a server in Taiwan also does this great job well, also mentioned in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirror#Taiwan

This server was indeed in the current/extra file, but I have no idea when it was removed.
It would be appreciated if it can be added back into the list.

Database Mirroring and Replication in SQL Server 2008 R2

I have configured the mirroring and replication between 4 servers (A,B,C,D).i.e, Mirroring between A to B and C to D, Replication between A and C. The configuration was a success and I am able test the replication(B to C) when I have failed over the mirroring
dbs(A to B). The replication works fine after the mirroring fail over but I am not able to check its status in the Replication monitor. When I am having any insert in a table which is replicated in B, it is reflected back to C..it means the replication is
working fine.
Any thought on how I can view the status of replication from mirrored server. I tried adding the publisher in the monitor, but no luck. If I check the snapshot agent status, it says could not retrieve the info, same with the log reader agent status.
Any suggestions on this please.

For example in your case...
Server A is principal and Server B is Mirror with either Manual or Automatic Failover.
Server A is replicated to Server B ( publisher & B is subscriber )
In Server A Database named Test_Mirror_Replication is configured for both mirroring and Replication.
Now you have failed over your Database 'Test_Mirror_Replication' from Server A to Server B.
After the Failover Server A will act as Mirror for DB 'Test_Mirror_Replication' & Server B will act as Principal for DB 'Test_Mirror_Replication'
Hope my understanding is correct ?
If yes then have you tried monitoring the replication after registering in other instance with current principal database sql instance name ? I mean current Publisher database name sql instance ? not your old sql instance name which was before the mirroring

How to resolve Error: 1418 in sql server while mirroring

I am trying to mirroring a database in sql server. I created a database and took a backup of it and restored on the another instance(i am using same server but with different instances). But after doing all operations and click on start mirroring, then it
showing following error.
The server network address "TCP://indserver.xxxx.local:5022" can not be
reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1418)

According to your error message, we need to verify if you backup your database with full recovery model and restore this database to a mirror instance with NORECOVERY option. You need also verify all instances can access every other partner and make sure
endpoints are running properly, you have granted the SQL Service Account CONNECT permission to the listener on the other machine.
If after trying this you are still getting a 1418 error, here's a blog post with a couple of other things to check for:

Daily ISO Snapshots ?

What happened to daily snapshots ? The last snapshot is 5 days ago on April 12th.

Also, does any one here have 2012-04-01 snapshot ISO ? I found it most stable.
I had random installer errors with ISO's from 2nd to 12th.
