**** snare flams using audio to score function!

Hello,
I've been using audio to score function to trigger snare samples from the ex24 to mix in with a recorded audio snare track.
The problem is however the midi notes don't always exactly lock in with the audio resulting in random flams that I have to zoom in and move.
Have I got the settings wrong for this? (I think I used the preset for drums-fast)
Not sure if there is something I'm doing wrong, possibly the sensitivity?
Thanks!

You've got to play with the settings, and yes, I get flams too. You have to zoom in, and clean up the audio to score process. It's good, but not perfect.
Superior has released a program called drum tracker , it will generate a midi file from an audio drumtrack file. It uses a series of filters to better pick out kik, hats, etc. It's better than Logic's, but Logic's function will still fill the bill (without having to spend extra $$$.
In fact, you can set up a similar EQ filter, to help Logic improve it's recognition of kick, snares, hats, etc. Create a eq for each drum you want to detect. If you were replacing drums all day long, the Superior drum tracker would be a good investment. If you do it only occassionally, stick to Logic's 'audio to score' feature .

  • Audio to score function?

    Watched the Scott Wilkie Logic Pro tutorial and was trying to replace live drum sounds with the audio to score function. I may have gotten some of the steps wrong. I created a new instrument track and then went to the audio to score function and adjusted the velocity threshold. I processed the audio but I don't know if it processed. Now that I think of it I didn't see the midi score. Have anyone had any success doing this or know the steps. What window did Wilkie constrain the notes to a single pitch in? I guess he was doing it so fast.
    Thanks
    Greeneye

    put an empty midi track under the audio trak yor are trying to process. someties the midi track goes under the audio track you just converted, try dragging the aduio up/down to an adjacent empty track.. the midi track will be there. by fooling around with the levels, its fairly easy to create a replacement drum track. Use transform function to move all the midi notes to the proper trigger note you want.. Those will often end up on several different pitchs,
    once you get used to it, it is a very fast way to replace drum notes. it takes a little while, depending on length, and you will see a 'count down list' of notes to process.

  • AUDIO TO SCORE is gone and it was much more precise for drum doubling than the doubling function itself.

    AUDIO TO SCORE. I used that all the time for drum doubling for the following reasons:
    In Logic 9 i always used audio to score for drum doubling because it had much more control over essential parameters than the drum replacement window. Parameters like: Granulation, Smooth Release and Attack Range made sure that i didn't have any flams, too few notes, too many notes etc etc. AND you could see in the sample editor (below the waveform) immediately the effect of the changes made in those parameters!
    Now with these parameters gone and only the drum doubling function left, what was a real pro function has become much more cumbersome to use. You can no longer see in detail what changes in parameters does to the out-coming midi. And the lack of the detailed parameters makes drum doubling drop or miss notes, makes flams with the original drum track etc etc.... In short. The drum doubling function is inadequate for pro results.
    So this is my suggestion: Apple probably wont reinstate audio to score as it was (i'd love it if they did, it's essential to me and others who does rock mixes in logic instead of protools). But you can do something that's even better:
    In the audio file editor (previously the sample editor) make the old audio to score into an advanced drum doubling/replacement editor. Take the audio to score window and parameters and reinstate them BUT instead of outputting different note values make them output to a desired note of the users choice (e.g C1). Without opening the library. It cluters the window and often people want to use their own drum software than apples samples.
    It's the realtime view in the bottom of the audiofile editor that makes a difference. And the missing parameters. Without these things a good outcome is based on luck rather than visual reference.

    I was doing drum replacement ( adding ) with Audio-to-score for years, and must say, drum replacement is working for me without any flams and much better and 2x faster. I think it is pro feature, with advanced transient detector. Only problem is velocity,as in Audio-to-score.
    If automatic threshold not working on some material, you can do  fine transient edits in audio editor with visual realtime feedback, you can change output note and delay globally. Also you can hear ( in compare with Audio-to-score), that's why library is opened and sample replacement -after, not difficult to do.

  • Logic crashing whenever I do more than one audio to score or trasposition

    Wonder if anybody else is having this issue. I'm on OSX 10.7.4 2.66 ghz c2d intel MBP with 8gb ram. Using Logic Pro 9.1.7.
    If I use audio to score the first time it works fine, but after that Logic bugs out and none of my hot keys work (command+S no longer saves, command+0 no longer opens the event list, etc). Other than that it works, but if I try to audio to score again, when I finish it will crash. Usually the screen flashes white first. Sometimes I have to force quit, sometimes it just completely vanishes.
    The same thing will happen if I am using Function>Transorm on the event list.
    Would really love to know if this is happening to other people. I don't know how to revert back to an older version of logic (I downloaded an earlier one, but when I try to run it it tells me there is a newer version already installed). I have multiple songs that need to have audio to score done 5ish times, and transposition the same, and I have to restart logic between each time because it will crash if I don't.  Blah.

    Have you tried assigning a different key command to open the list?  I don't know if you're using an "O" or a zero but an "O" might be a problem.  Just a shot in the dark but in any case I do know that sometimes key command comflicts or non-assignments can give a white screen flash.
    You'd have nothing to lose by assigning a new key command.  I don't have Logic open now but I think you get to Key Commands by clicking "Settings" tab up at top left.  If not that, it's in Preferences.  When there use the search function to find "list", select your exact function from the choices,  and then use the automatic "learn function" at the right to type in a new key or key combo. Worth a shot. Also, we should all be exporting a copy of our key commands to dropbox or some other drive for safe keeping.
    Cheers,

  • How do you do an audio to score in Logic Pro X?

    I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to perform the "audio to score" function in Logic Pro X. I often used this feature in Logic 8 & 9 to convert audio basslines to midi files. It appears that this feature is left out of Logic Pro X. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Try pg. 171 in the users guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/logic_pro_x_user_guide.pdf
    Using drum replacement, you can replace individual drum sounds on an audio track without re-recording the entire track. To replace or double the drum sounds, you use an audio track that contains a recording of a single drum (or other percussion instrument) to create a software instrument track with matching MIDI trigger notes. The software instrument track plays drum samples using the EXS24 mkII.
    Hide
    Replace or double a recorded drum signal
    Select the audio track with the drum recording.
    Choose Track > Replace or Double Drum Track (or use the corresponding key command).The following changes take place in the Tracks area:
    All files on the selected audio track are analyzed for transients (if they have not been previously analyzed). The selected track is vertically zoomed.
    A software instrument track is created below the audio track, and the EXS24 is inserted into the Instrument slot.
    The Library opens with the EXS24 selected, so that you can choose the sound that best matches the project.
    A MIDI region containing trigger notes based on the detected transients is created on the software instrument track.
    The Drum Replacement/Doubling dialog opens.

  • Audio to MIDI Groove/Audio to Score - Undocumented Change

    Anyone who uses these functions may have noticed a recent change in behaviour.
    From page 464 of the manual...
    "Creating an Audio to MIDI Groove Template"
    "5 Click on any audio trigger point to prevent it from being transferred to the template.
    Manually selected (unused) points will be dimmed."
    Well... the background of the 'trigger point' area used to be white and totally independent from the region selection process, so although the trigger points themselves are only one pixel wide, it wasn't a problem if you missed one when clicking; you just kept clicking until you got it. The problem now is that the trigger point area is dark and is included as part of the region selection process, so if you miss a trigger point by even one pixel when clicking, the region will become deselected.
    Something else not mentioned in the manual is that holding the Option/Alt key will prevent region deselection when clicking the trigger point background. Be careful not to drag while option-clicking though, as this will move the region boundaries.

    There is the Audio to Score function located in the sample editor->Factory->Audio to score which will convert Audio files into Midi Data, but it mainly works reasonably well with monophonic melodic material and drums/percussive sounds. So don't expect harmonic material/chords to be converted as you might expect.

  • Converting Audio To Score

    I just need a little help in doing this efficiently.
    Snare track.
    Once I convert it to audio to score it picks up hi hat hit and tom hits.
    1. Is there a way to control the threshold so it will only convert the snare hits?
    I tried silence strip and then I want to merge all those regions (since the sample editor seems only to handle one regionat a time) but it just reverted it back to original snare region with the audio in between the hits. Then i did slience stripe again and found the action that makes each region an new audio file or something to that nature (which ened up being 230 files..one per snare hit). After that I was able to merge all those snare audio files/regions into one region. Then proceeded to do the Audio to score function on that snare region.
    BUT...unfortunately, not all the snare hits landed on the same note/number. So, how do I transpose all the other notes to the same note with having to do it one at a time. I tried searching around the menus in the Matrix and event list but couldnt find a proper command.
    So how can easily move different and mutiple midi notes to the same note?
    and how about making them all the same velocity? (since the question just popped in my head)

  • AUDIO TO SCORE

    Greetings, I have been using audio to score with "fair" success..I record parts with my guitar (clean) and it does a decent job to convert to midi..I have melodyne but it's a hassle using 2 programs. I was wondering if anyone out there has advice as to how I can improve the detection...or if anyone out there was using this feature quite a lot.

    I use it for drum replacement. It's got to be 1 note, learn the paramaters (I can help). And a direct guitar signal may work best. I would think Melodyne would be much faster at this....
    A lot of people confuse Granulation. Granulation is the "Window size it uses" reviewing some of the presets may help you there. If you are quantizing the MIDI then you can often pull gran and attack time a lot closer to each other. I f you are just taking it for MIDI I often preprocess the track so it is easier to analyze, EQ, gating, limiting-it doesn't need to sound good and often it works better to learn how to adjust it so it analyzes better.

  • Tricky Beatmapping and audio to score problem

    This is my scenario:
    I am recording a rockband with a unexperienced drummer. His drumset is cheap and sounds like a set of plastic pots. I have recorded them before so I have a sollution for the sounds of the drums. I simply make audio to score on BD and SD and add or replaces his drumsounds. last recordings I didnt work with the tempo which variable up and down 10 - 20 bpm ( yeah I know, ouch! ) but this time I have sat down and worked through the 10 songs and made a tempo based on beat mapping of the BD&SD.
    Now here's the problem:
    When I have made a Beatmapping and does the audio to score on BD for instance. And put up a ultrabeat BD on that miditrack, the tempo on the miditrack is not right! The Miditrack doesnt seem to follow the tempochanges of the beatmapping made.
    Can I correct this now? Or do I have to start all over and FIRST add the Drumsounds, record them to audio AND then Beatmap?
    I searched the forum but there was alot of posts on beatmapping and I am in a little timestress.
    / Mikke

    Mikke,
    It's been my experience, that once there is audio recorded into a Logic song, changing any of the tempo functions causes the audio regions to move. i.e. there placement will change... unless you SPMTE lock them first.
    In your case, all the drum tracks will have moved together, so you may not have noticed it, per say.
    As to how this relates to your current problem, I'm not entirely sure if it does. But I can't help but wonder if the Audio to Score function is somehow "locked" to the original SMPTE position of the drum transients. Again... I'm WAY stabbing in the dark here.
    2 things...
    What happens if you re-apply the Audio to Score function? Does the newly created MIDI region follow now?
    And what happens if you clear the beat mapped tempo list, and reset Logic back to the original tempo it was when you tracked the drums? (I realize you didn't cut to a click, but Logic's internal tempo was set somewhere... get it back to where it was, if you can). Then apply the Audio to Score. Does it follow the original drums now?
    If the end result is to merely replace/enhance the drums, perhaps you may need to forgo the beat mapping. Just a thought...
    Keep us posted...

  • Adding snare to 'Audio to Score' kick

    hi list,
    first time poster...so i have successfully created a midi file of my drummer's kick and have subbed out with the sample i want via the 'audio to score' feature. now i want to add the snare to the same audio instrument. how do i do that? when i try the audio to score it just pastes the snare part over my kick part.
    help and thank you!!
    andrew

    make a midi track right below the kick drum audio track in the arrange page.
    Run 'audio to score'... Logic will create a midi track below it. If there isn't a midi track below the kick track, Logic will lay the midi track on top of the audio track, just drag it off.
    open the audio to score midi track in the matrix editor. Most likely there will be lots of different pitches, select all notes, and go to transform, and make all midi notes, one pitch, D2. now create an exs instrument, and put your snare in it, and assign to D2 also.
    It's easier to open an existing drum kit, and change the audio for the snare. Do that inside of EXS editor. now you'll have a snare that matches the kick exactly. if you want, put a little negative or positive delay on the snare track, to compensate different attack times of the kick and snare.

    I have a macbook pro4.1 and the sound chip in it failed. My speakers and microphone no longer work. Does anyone know of an external speaker and microphone set that plugs into the USB port so I can continue to use both of these functions and not have to pay to have the entire main board replaced. Preferably something under $100.

    I don't think you're likely to find a set of external speakers that come with a microphone and plug directly into a USB port. There are USB audio cards that look like tiny flash drives but have microphone and headphone ports in them, to which you can connect a typical two-plug Windows PC headset with a microphone, or else you can connect external speakers and a stand-alone microphone. Those adapters typically cost under $10. I don't know anything about the quality of sound that can be expected from them.
    I have a Griffin iMic, which is much the same idea but larger, a bit more expensive (retail~$40), and perhaps delivers somewhat better sound quality (I hope so, but I don't know because I've never had occasion to try one of the little ones).

  • What is the difference this 2 sample pictures? Use IMAQ Detect Circles function to detect the GREEN button.

    Hi All,
    Please refer to the attached 2 pictures, they are the similar, just the size is defferent. (pass.PNG, 5478 pass.PNG).
    But now i try to use IMAQ Detect Circles to catch the GREEN button. For pass.PNG, it works fine, but for another sample, it is always fail to detect this button.
    I also try to change the Curve Parameters and score as input, but still failed. Another way, i also try to use IMAQ find circles function, but the result is worse than IMAQ Detect Circles, so give up.
    The code is detect the circles.png, copy it to block diagram enough.
    So, what is the root cause? Thanks for help.

    Hi colinzhang,
    The curve extraction mode if change it to Uniform mode, u can get the result.
    -Suggestion, if you want to use the entire image region as ROI no need to get the image size, getting rectangle and converting it to ROI descriptor. (I think this is unnecessary)
    -Be careful with color plane extraction, u're using by default which is Red plane. In this example it's fine. but make sure u know which plane u're extracting.
    -please find vi saved in 2010 version.
    Thanks

  • Anyone using Logic to score to picture?

    Anyone using Logic to score to picture?
    what is your workflow?

    I either get the QT movie delivered on DVD-ROM or delivered on an external FW drive already in the size and format that I want. I don't use DV output (I run the video in a window on a 2nd monitor).
    I create a separate logic song for every music cue, which I find works for me. it minimises the need to fiddle with locking objects to TC when there are tempo changes etc. in order to hear the other music that I am working on in the film to get an overall global feel etc, I bounce a work in progress from each song and place them in the right place on a dedicated track in every music cue logic song. time consuming but effective.
    for the film audio, I extract it to a track from the QT and run it in logic. can be a pain when having to change offsets but I have a technique for cutting the audio file to realign it with the film if I need to offset it.
    what I would like to see is far better implementation of movies in logic in general. I tried using the detect cuts feature for a while but found it pretty much useless for me. I am still finding that logic forgets what QT was saved with a song, so I am having to relocate it again, and it irritatingly defaults to looking in the movies folder on my system drive.. so instead of fighting it, I copy the QT to that folder when I can, ie, when it is not too big a file. in general I would like a more elastic and intuitive way to glide a movie start point as far back or forward as I would like, to easily align the start point of a music cue with bar one.
    that's all I can think of for now. any other Qs just ask.

  • Pb score function - DRG-50901

    Hi all,
    I get an error DRG-50901 :text query parser syntax error on line 1, column 1
    when i use the score function
    table DOCUMENT :
    -FILE_ID
    -FILE_NAME
    -BLOB_CONTENT BLOB
    -FILE_TYPE
    -FILE_SIZE
    the index code :
    CREATE INDEX DOCUMENT_IDX ON DOCUMENT
    (BLOB_CONTENT)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('FILTER ctxsys.auto_filter SYNC (ON COMMIT)');
    So the first query works well but the second does not !
    1)
    SELECT d.file_name
    FROM document d
    WHERE (contains (d.blob_content, '%' || TEXT_VALUE || '%', 1) > 0)
    2)
    SELECT d.file_name, score(1) as relevance
    FROM document d
    WHERE (contains (d.blob_content, '%' || TEXT_VALUE || '%', 1) > 0)
    Can anybody help me to solve it?
    Regards,
    Gregory

    I have not seen this problem before. Can you post a complete example and also include your release number?

  • How score() function works in HANA fuzzy search

    Hi, i am confused by the score() returned value when i use this in fuzzy search in HANA
    CREATE COLUMN TABLE test_similar_calculation_mode
    ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, s text);
    INSERT INTO test_similar_calculation_mode VALUES ('1','stringg');
    INSERT INTO test_similar_calculation_mode VALUES ('2','string theory');
    INSERT INTO test_similar_calculation_mode VALUES ('3','this is a very very very long string');
    INSERT INTO test_similar_calculation_mode VALUES ('4','this is another very long string');
    SELECT TO_INT(SCORE()*100)/100 AS score, id, s FROM test_similar_calculation_mode WHERE CONTAINS(s, 'theory', FUZZY(0.9, 'similarCalculationMode=compare')) ORDER BY score DESC;
    the returned list is just as below
    SCORE      ID      S
    0.84            2       string theory
    why i assign 0.9 as threshold in fuzzy function while this line with score 0.84 also be returned.
    from my understanding, the S field is text data type, so the string actually is divided into seperate word list, so the score should be 1.0, is it right?
    any hints is very appreciate,thanks

    Hi William,
    By default the score() function returns a TF/IDF score for text data types.
    To get back the fuzzy score, you have to use the search option 'textSearch=compare' (or 'ts=compare'). Without other options, this gives an average score of all tokens ('string' and 'theory') and you get a score of 0.7 as a result.
    To ignore the additional token 'string' in the database, you have to specify another option that tells the score function to use the tokens from the user input only ('cnmt=input').
    So you should use
    TO_INT(SCORE()*100)/100 AS score, id, s
    FROM test_similar_calculation_mode
    WHERE CONTAINS(s, 'theory', FUZZY(0.9, 'scm=compare, ts=compare, cnmt=input'))
    ORDER BY score DESC;
    to get the expected results.
    Regards,
    Jörg
