SNMP "Access Point" Lightweight WLC 5508

Hello
It is possible to configure SNMP in an AP lightweight with WLC 5508 to get some information with snmpwalk as a AP Serial number?
Thanks for your help

It is possible to configure SNMP in an AP lightweight with WLC 5508 to get some information with snmpwalk as a AP Serial number?
Yes and no.
The details of the S/N are all found in the WLC.  So if you need to do an SNMPwalk, do it on the WLC.

  • SNMP TRAP ON Secondary WLC 5508

    Hi I'm Louis,
I work on 2 WLC 5508 with version 7.4 and Prime Infrastructure 1.3
We have activate AP SSO to work with a primary and secondary controller.
We have added the controller to Prime infrastructure and activated SNMP.
We receive correctly the alarms on Prime.
But when we work on Primary WLC, and the secondary crash we haven't got information about that. No SNMP received.
    That is normal ?
    Thx for your reply

I find this, in Monitoring and Troubleshooting the Redundancy States
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1.2/user/guide/chgdevconfig.html
On my primary controller, in SNMP => Trap Log , I can see :
RF failure notification ErrorType: 34 Reason :Lost Peer, Moving to Active-No-Peer State! => When I unplug RP link
RF progress notification unitId: -1407319963 peerUnitId :14 unitState: -1407319863 peerUnitState :5
RF progress notification unitId: -1407319963 peerUnitId :14 unitState: -1407319863 peerUnitState :9  => When I plug the RP link.
So I can see the trap on my controller but there is nothing in Prime ...

  • SNMP web authenticated users wlc 5508

    Hello everyone,
I am using web authentication with my Wlc 5508 and I would like to check all users currently connected (ip, login used, MAC address, ...) with SNMP.
I am using an external web server and my client are authenticated with ldap.
I know I can receive these information with traps, but I would like to create a short program which will check all users when I click on a button.
    Can anyone help me ?

  • L3 connections between Access points and WLC

    hi,
we have a customer asking us to configure wireless system as per attached drawing.
WLC is in Data Center which is connected to Data Center Switch ( Cisco 3850), then this DC-Switch is connected to DC-Core ( Cisco Nexus-7K).
this Nexus-7K is connected to many campus Networks. in all campuses there is Cisco 4507 Campus Core which is connected to Nexus-7K.
then from Campus core many distribution switches are connected.
all Vlans for data and wifi is created in Distribution Switches. Distribution Switches are VTP Servers and many access switches with connected APs are connected back to this Distribution Switch.
All Access Points are registered at WLC in Data Center, but wifi clients are not getting ip address from DHCP Server, as well as even if we configured static ip address at wifi clients they are not able to communicate correctly.
please correct me if there is a mistake in this design , or we have a solution to solve this problem please let me know.
    attached topology diagram
    thanks,
    anvar

    Hey Anvar,
Too much details about network, to make it simple:
1- APs and WLC can be in separate VLANs (Not a problem)
2- As APs have joined, these two VLANs look fine for me
If your clients can't communicate probably with static IP address
1- From the WLC, ping default gateway for that VLAN
2- If the WLC can reach the gateway, its wired VLAN issue that you need to investigate in the path (maybe using wired device in the same VLAN as the clients in the switch where the APs are connected)
Now, about why the clients are not taking IP:
1- What is your DHCP, where its located? Is it the same one for all clients?
2- Do you have local APs or FlexConnect ?
3- When you run the debugs for DHCP where the process breaks?
    Cheers,
    Nour

  • Mixing 1240 and 1250 access-point Lightweight

    HI all,
is it possibile to have a system of WLCs controlling both 1242 and 1252 installed in different areas of a factory and (1250 at offices and 1240 at production site) managing the same WLANs?
    Thanks
    Johnny

The latest 4.X and 6.X supports 1240 and 1250.  You can mix both.  You can verify by reading the Release Notes and it will tell you what AP's are supported by the firmware.

  • Shuting down an lightweight access point

We setup an access point at a remote location as a test.  We would now like to remotely shut it down.  Is there a way of shutting down an access point (lightweight) remotely to free up its AP license off of our controller?
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

    Hi,
1 - If you have remote access to local switch to whom your access-point (POE) is connected, just shutdown that port, by this way you can power-off the access-point.
2 - As far as AP license off is concern
If you have licensed DTLS image on your controller then AP license off of controller can be achieve by disabling the DTLS of the specific AP by controller.
you can enable or disable DTLS data encryption for a specific access point or for all access points using the config ap link-encryption {enable | disable} {Cisco_AP | all} command

  • 2 Cisco WLC 5508 controllers and software upgrade 7.6.130 + FUS 1.9

    Hi
I have two WLC 5508 controllers that need 7.6.130 and FUS 1.9 installed. (Current version 7.3 and FUS 1.7)
Configuration: One controller is at Site A and the other controller is at Site B (two different states..)
They're configured so that if Site A goes down, Site A AP's will failover to Site B and vice versa ..
    - What would be the recommended approach for upgrading the software to 7.6.130.0 (from 7.3) and also upgrading FUS 1.9 (from 1.7)?
My plan was to download 7.6.130.0 to both controllers and pre-download the software to all AP's (about 100 total between both sites) and then reboot the controllers at night at the same time? Or one before the other?
Step 2. Install FUS 1.9 to each controller.
I'm concerned over what might happen during the upgrade and AP failover etc..
    Thanks

This is what I would do:
Upload v7.6.130.0 to all WLCs and then use the pre image download to push the image to all access points.
    Dont reboot the wlc
Image swap in the access points so that v7.6.130.0 is primary
Move all access point to one of the WLCs (A)
Enable ap AAA authentication on the WLC that has no access points and the one you will work on first.  This prevents access points from joining
    Reboot the WLC (A)
    Upload the FUS 1.9.0.0
Reboot WLC (A) this takes up to 45 minutes
When the WLC (A) comes back online, uncheck ap AAA authentication
Move access points from WLC (B) to WLC (A)
Enable ap  AAA authentication on  WLC (B)
Perform all the other task you did earlier on WLC (A)
    That's it.

  • WLC 5508 with 7.4.100.0 software

    Hi All,
One of my client has a wireless setup with WLC 5508 and 1142N APs. It was running with a good coverage for access points when WLC was running with 7.0 software version. Last week I upgraded the software to latest 7.4.100.0 version. After that the coverage of APs are very low.
Can someone help me regarding this issue.
    Thanks
    Sadiq

I didn't have coverage issues per say, but my 1142 APs kept disassociating randomly
TAC suggested running these commands. Which has stopped the APs leaving the building.
    > config 802.11a disable network
    > config 802.11a 11nSupport a-mpdu tx priority all disable
    > config 802.11a 11nSupport a-mpdu tx scheduler disable
    > config 802.11a enable network
    > config 802.11b disable network
    > config 802.11b 11nSupport a-mpdu tx priority all disable
    > config 802.11b 11nSupport a-mpdu tx scheduler disable
    > config 802.11b enable network
Aggregation is the process of grouping packet data frames together  rather than transmitting them separately. Two aggregation methods are  available: Aggregated MAC Protocol Data Unit (A-MPDU) and Aggregated MAC  Service Data Unit (A-MSDU). A-MPDU is performed in the software whereas  A-MSDU is performed in the hardware.
Disables the 802.11n-5 GHz A-MPDU transmit aggregation scheduler.

  • Access Points resetting

Has anyone seen this problem before.
Access points 1142 controller 5508 running code 6.0.196.0
When you set the access point port speed with "config ap duplex full speed 1000 all" the access points leave the controlle and do not rejoin. I have had to reset the the access points manually with a power down and hold the reset button.
I cannot find a bug report for this.

    Surendra
It could be that bug however the bug report specifically mentions autonomous aps, so what would happen is the ap is ok set with 1000 full but the switch just doesn't think its there?
    zhenningx
The client wants speed and duplex set, also if the command it available it certainly should not break something, equally auto auto is alot better than it used to be however is far from reliable, what if the switch/ap port combination decides to set itself at 10 half using auto auto? OK it hasnt but what if it did thats obviously possible aand not good.
Its simply a case of yes there is a work around but with the client spending an awful lot of money he wants it to work how he wants it to work.
If you bought a car for £50K and you couldnt get your favourite radio station on the radio because of a bug would you be happy? No. At the end of the day I accept that there are bugs etc but saying just leave it like this is not really aceptable as we have an expectation as client that things should work as described.
I do not want to be negative but there is a lot wrong in the 6.x code that really shouldnt be and its basics like not being able to set speed and duplex, the issues with Vocera etc and saying just use auto auto is not good enough for me as an engineer. First does Csco know about it, second is there a fix, third is it something I have done.
Now lets assume this was a hospital where there were 1000 access points in ceilings and they all went off the network, that would be catastrophic. Having to find and reset 1000 access points in a hospital. I actually read the release notes for specific code trains I use and this is not in the list of bugs in 6.0.196.0

We just purchased a WLC 5508 and would like to know if it will control remote VPN site Access Points.  Here are the details:
The 5508 will live at our home office.  We have multiple remote sites that are connected via Cisco's DMVPN.  Each site has one Cisco 1131 Access Point hanging off of either a Cisco 1841 or a 2811 that is using DMVPN back to the home office 2811.  Can the 5508 manage the remote Access Points?

Looks to be wither a duplicate address issue or a configuration issue.  Try to test with only using the 2.4ghz and then again with only the 5ghz and see if you see a difference.

I am trying to monitor 1250 ap's directly via snmp. Is it possible to consolidate the SNMP MIB of the 1250 ap's who are connected to 4400 controller running R 5.2.
I am wondering if it's possible to monitor access points directly (not via wcs or controller) via snmp?
    Regards, Wim

If the AP is in LWAPP mode, you cannot directly poll the AP using SNMP. You have to poll the controller to get all the information about the AP. You can download the MIBs for controller v5.2 form the URL below.
