Snmp config impossible on Jetdirect 175x (J6035B)

Hej all,
it's now quite a time I have troubles with my setup: Laserjet 3020 with Jetdirect 175x (J6035B).
Initially I had troubles using the scanner via network. I permanently got the error 'Device in use by another user'. Finally I found a hint to reset the snmp entries in the network configuration of the Jetdirect:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=339831&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=339831&objectID=c00800606
Trying to follow that instruction, I found those (no) settings already configured. I tried to reset the entries by disabling snmp (and applying) and enable it again. But when enabling snmp read-write access, the web tool tells me 'The Get Community Name does not match the Confirm Get Community Name.' But the fields are empty....
What can I do?
B.

Aside from the blatantly obvious solution of connecting the HP Jetdirect print server directly to the Airport Extreme...
What is it connected to?
Do you by chance have another router and that device is connected to it? If so, configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) so that it is acting as a bridge (NOT sharing a single IP address).

  • Job prints but is then stuck in queue - LaserJet P1102 with JetDirect 175x print server

    Hello,
I have an unusual error happening when i try to install my P1102 through a print server. Everything installs ok and allows me to print a test page, the next document i try to print prints ok but the job remains in the queue and stays there. After a couple of minutes saying Printing it then says Error, and any other attempts at printing get stuck behind this job. Then, if i dont delete the job in error from the queue it will print this document every 10 mins until deleted or i switch the printer off!
The set up is a LaserJet P1102 attached to a JetDirect 175x print server, PC running Win7 x86
    Things i have tried:
    - Install on another pc. Tried both Win 7 x86 and x64
    - Changed print server for known working one
    - Connected via USB, printer works fine
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

  • Using JetDirect 175x with LJ 3200 and getting offline after a short time

I have a HP LJ 3200 connecting to my home network via a JetDirect 175x print server, using a D-Link router. All was good until I updated the firmware on the D-Link router. This changed the network IP scheme from 192.168.15.x to 192.168.0.x. I decided to change all devices to 0.x. I get a connection to the print server and am able to print but it seems to timeout, the printer shows offline on my laptop, after a while of inactivity. I am unable to ping the device after that. I unplug the network cable and plug it back in and it re-connects. Is that a setting I need to make to keep the connection open? Thanks. ..

Thats the problem with the third party apps. You have no luck until they update it to work properly.

  • Laserjet 1020 via Jetdirect 175x - help needed

Hi, I've have a small Mac network and I'm trying to setup my hp Laserjet 1020 via a USB hp Jetdirect 175x (I know this isn't a very Mac friendly printer).
I followed the advice given in another discussion here (thank you poekim) and with an older hp laserjet 1022 driver I got the printer working fine by connecting the USB directly to the Mac. So I know it can work.
I just can't get the printer to work correctly via ethernet / jetdirect. Using the Printer Setup Utility I select 'HP Jet Direct - Socket' under Protocol and enter the IP address (it confirms the address is a 'Valid and complete address'. However the driver does not appear in the HP list under 'Print Using' and when selecting 'Other' I can't find the 1020 driver in Library/Printer or admin/Library/Printer.
I can log on OK to the Jetdirect's Embedded Web Server via Safari.
I've installed, uninstalled & re-installed and the driver several times but can't seem to find it on the system.
I got my hp Officejet working fine via a Jetdirect.
    I'm using a Mac Mini G4 with OS X Server 10.4.
Any help would be appreciated. My OS X knowledge is limited - but I'm always willing to learn !
    Thanks in advance.

Drivers HP provides for its USB printers are limited to USB Only. You need a third-party CUPS driver to be able to print via IP printing. Your printer is one of the harder ones to set up. Read here:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet1020
You will need the foo2zjs driver plus Foomatic, plus ESP ghostscript:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    Good luck.

I have a Jetdirect 175X J6035A Print Server, to remove the USB I have to remove the case and lift 2 small prongs that lock the USB Cable into the holes in the USB Plug. Was wondering what the name of this feature is and if there is an easier recommended way to release the cable. Thank you.

  • CAD service monitor requires SNMP config

When attempting to run the CAD service monitor on the server the page loads but the connection to the server for process status times out on the SNMP connection.
    URL = http://<CAD server>:8088/smc/monitor.jsp
Error Message = Status: [Tue Sep 06 15:12:47 EST 2011] java.lang.Exception: SplkSnmpHandler: snmpTimeoutError
The system is licensed and running with all other functionality working as tested for UAT.  The Cisco SNMP is enabled to send traps to a remote host and the CAD postinstall is configured to generate traps to the same host.
As the windows SNMP client is disabled due to the UCCE install is there any additional config needed on the CISCO SNMP to get this functionality working for CAD?

Can anyone running CAD 8.x please test the monitor.jsp and post if it's broken!

  • Ace 4710 active/standby SNMP config

We have 2 x Ace 4710 deployed in Active/Standby config. Since the configuration mode is disabled on the Standby unit, how can we configure the SNMP settings (such as location etc.) on the standby unit different from the active unit?
The 2 devices are in physically separated data centers so the SNMP location settings need to be set differently on both units. The standby unit does not allow any configuration.

    Comments inline:
Since this is the admin context,  we would better not do this. As i understand correctly, this will turn  off the config sync on the 2 units and we may end up with some issues.
KM - Correct, you need to manually manage the configurations of both devices.
Also,  if at a later stage, we sync the configs again in the admin context, it  will overwrite the different config on the standby unit with that from  the active unit?
KM - Correct, the device with the lower priority will be overwritten when config-sync is re-enabled.  This is one of the reasons you need to be careful in the Admin context.  For example: Ff the lower priority device has contexts defined that the primary does not, they would be removed when you re-enablethis command.
Since  my requirement is just the SNMP location config, I do not think i  should go for this; rather i can have some descriptive location setting  identifying the 2 units in cluster mode...
KM - This would be more ideal than disabling config sync.  You could also put both locations like this:
snmp-server location "San Jose, CA & Seattle, WA"

  • SNMP Config on a LWAPP

Is there a way to configure an SNMP string on a lightweight access point (LWAPP)?  WCS is running version                               7.0.164.3.  The 4402 controller is running version 7.0.98.0.  The LWAPP is using image version 7.0.98.0.  I can access the LWAPP using SSH and get to the enable prompt.  Below are the commands I'm using.
    AP01>ena
    Password:
    AP01#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
    AP01(config)#snmp-server community mycomm ro
    AP01(config)#exi
    AP01#wr
    Building configuration...
    [OK]
    NVRAM Verification Failed

If there is a way to add the SNMP community from the controller or WCS, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi,
ok..  Please correct me if my understanding are correct.. "You would like to poll LWAPP Via SNMP"?? is this right??
    If So.
You cannot poll the APs directly, but will be able to get AP statistics by polling the WLC.
lemme know if this answered your question..

  • Ciscoworks RME 4.0 SNMP Config Change

    Hi,
I was locked out one of my routers.  I cannot access it via Telnet, SSH, TFTP, SCP, etc.  However, I remembered once I reconfigured the router via SNMP community string.  Does anyone know how I can change router config via SNMP community string using CiscoWorks RME 4.0?
    Thanks!

You can use RME ---> Config Mgmt --> NetConfig --> NetConfig Jobs . For specific steps, read the users guide below for information about different user defined task you can use.

  • Command accounting for SNMP config

We can use TACACS+ and ACS to do the command accounting for EXEC shell commands executed. But what abount configuration changed by SNMP set? How to find out which OIDs set by NMS tools?
    Thanks!

Well radius accounting is supported on ACS so if your aaa client is accounting the commands, then they will appear on ACS without problem.

  • Airport Extreme Config to HP Jetdirect

    Hello,
I previously had a Linksys router hooked up to an HP Jetdirect170x so that I could continue using my old (but good) Laserjet 6P. I replaced the Linksys router with an airport extreme and now I am unable to configure the router so that I can print. I believe that it is an IP address issue but I cannot pinpoint the problem. Is there some one that could assist me in configuring the airport extreme to the Jetdirect print server.
    Thanks!!

  • HP Jetdirect Printing over LAN with 2 iMacs with Airport Extreme

    I have an interesting situation:
    3 iMacs on network
1 iMac connected directly to an Airport Extreme base (does not have Airport card) - this station connected to USB inkjet printer - printing to the Laserjet mentioned below is not necessary.
2 iMacs connected to Airport wireless internet. These two iMacs are (were) connected to a HP Jetdirect 175x print server using ethernet. Both iMacs are (were) sharing a HP Laserjet 1200. Once the network was configured to see the internet via the Airport on both iMacs the ability to print was lost on ethernet. As long as the wireless network connection is maintained the Laserjet printer does not appear to be connected.
Aside from the blatantly obvious solution of connecting the HP Jetdirect print server directly to the Airport Extreme is there a way to configure the network to allow the current ethernet printing to work while the iMacs remain connected to the internet using wireless?
Logistics in the home make the movement of the Airport and/or the Laserjet printer impossible.
Any ideas on a work around?

  • Unable to print with my Canon PIXMA IP 4700 and JetDirect network appliance

After many tries I decided to post my question.
I have a Canon PIXMA IP 4700 connected to the network with a Jetdirect 175X box. So I tried to add a new printer with a "HP Jetdirect Socket" port. I have previously installed the driver from the official website. The test page is staying on the spooler.
I also tried with LPD port (supported by the Jetdirect box) and IPP but nothing is working.
When the printer is directly connected with USB, it's working fine. Printing from my others Windows computers is working fine too since many months.
    Thank your for your help.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem is being caused by the Canon driver. It cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of a 3rd party print server, or if shared by Windows.
The solution is to use a driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free (it ships with OS X) however the iP4700 is not listed as a supported model. The iP4600 is listed so you could try selecting this model in the Print Using menu (shown as Canon PIXMA iP4600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3). If the iP4600 Gutenprint driver does not work that well then you could look at using [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] which does support the iP4700. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so at least you can try it before committing to buying.
Another option would be to use a Airport device, like the Express, instead of the Jetdirect print server. With the printer connected to its USB port you can then use the Canon iP4700 driver on the Mac.

  • SNMP traps from Solaris 10

    Hi,
I'm trying very hard to set up a Sun Fire V245 to send SNMP traps when certain hardware or software related events occur. I've been looking at sma_snmp (net-snmp) and the Fault Management Daemon (SUNWfmd) but they seem to be very limited in their capabilities. I have manged to get some traps sent for filesystem fill-ups and high load averages but that is about it.
Most of all I would like the system to send traps when there is a HW failure such as a faulty FRU or if there are disk failures.
If anyone can point me to some documentation about this, I would be most grateful.
    /Mikael

    Mikael,
I struggled through the same thing with a Netra 240 recently. The Sun docs are garbage when it comes to this. I opened a ticket with Sun and after 3 days and 6 hours on the phone I finally got hold of someone who knew how to spell SNMP. Yes, it was that bad!
Here's the scoop. In Solaris 10 you run Net-SNMP, a.k.a. SMA, snmpd. The old snmpdx is obsoleted and you shouldn't configure it at all.
Now to get the hardware related traps for the Sunfire and Netra series servers... (what you are really looking for).
You have to load and configure an additional SNMP daemon for the hardware specific traps.
(The first doc is rather old, the last one 819-7978-12 is pretty new and is somewhat more relevant.)
Sun SNMP Management Agent for Sun Fire and Netra Systems: Sun Doc number 817-2559-13
Sun SNMP Management Agent Addendum for the Netra 240 Server: Sun Doc Number 817-6238-10
Sun SNMP Management Agent Administration Guide for Sun Blade /Sun Fire/Sun SPARC Enterprise/Netra Servers: Sun Doc Number 819-7978-12
And finally the SMA/net-snmp/snmpd guide for the standard Solaris related traps:
Solaris System Management Agent Administration Guide: Sun Doc Number 817300011
There are problems with all of the above documents. None of the Netra/Sunfire docs specifically talk about Solaris 10 so read them with caution. They also talk about configuring and running snmpdx and never reference SMA/net-snmp. This is odd because the instructions I got from Sun (finally) were not to run snmpdx, only to run sma/snmpd and additionally run the sunfire/netra snmpd agent.
The SMA document (817-3000-11) has an undocumented bug, which Sun knows about and is working on but will not reveal to the public. In the section titled "Migration From the Sun Fire Management Agent" it references using a script called masfcnv to convert the sunfire/netra specific snmp config and daemon to work with and through SMA. Since they all use the same ports (161/162) there is some conflict and the masfcnv is script is meant to resolve this by making sma/snmpd a proxy agent to requests toward the sunfire/netra specific hardware daemon.
The problem is the masfcnv script doesn't work properly. In fact, if you run the script you will destroy your other snmp configurations and may have to uninstall and reinstall the packages to clean everything up. This script hasn't ever worked and Sun is working on a fix but they neglect to mention this in the document which is IMO gross negligence and is a reflection of Sun's overall state of affairs (but that's another ranting thread).
So what you must do is configure SMA/net-snmp (or whatever you want to call it), and also configure the sunfire/netra specific snmp (after downloading and installing that package).
Since traps are sent to the remote trapsink using destination port 162, both net-snmp and the netra specific snmp daemons can co-exist here (port 162 is not an open listening port on the machine).
Port 161 is used for receiving SNMP Get requests and can only be bound to one daemon at a time. So either it is used by net-snmp or the netra snmp daemon, but not both. Since my boxes have not been fully integrated still I can't figure out which daemon 161 is bound to. At any rate, in my application the customer is only interested in receiving traps so the outcome here isn't that important.
I realize this isn't complete but I'm no expert here and haven't worked through all the test scenarios on a fully configured system. Hopefully though this will help clear some of the confusion propogated through Sun's stupid documents. Good luck!
    /Frank
