SNMP Monitoring shows bandwidth x2

I have tried a couple SNMP monitoring applications on both my Mac and Windows machines and both are showing my WAN usage as double what it should be.  I have a 15Mbps connection to the Internet and when I do a speedtest it shows as 30Mbps on the mgi1 interface.  I have noticed this for awhile (pretty sure several firmware versions) but thought I would reach out to the community finally.  I am running 7.6.4 on my TC Gen4.

Hi deepu vc,
For bandwidth monitoring you should use the SNMP Traffic Sensor or a NetFlow Sensor. PRTG offers various versions:
NetFlow 5
NetFlow 9
IPFIX
I linked the corresponding pages of the PRTG manual. Within the next few weeks there will also be a new Trap Receiver Sensor.
I hope this helps...
Kind regards,

    Hello everybody,
Sorry for my english, I write normaly in french, but we have more result in english.
I have a problem with SCOM 2012. I try to catch all snmp traps sended by a 2960 CISCO switch on a EventView with a specific rule (Authoring->Rule->Collection Rules -> Event Based -> SNMP Trap (Event) based on the object target "Node")
I creat a specific management pack juste for the rule and the views.
SNMP Monitoring - CISOC 2960 => It's OK, I can have the processor state, utilization, etc ...
SNMP Monitoring Ubuntu computer => It's OK, I can have all the state I want.
SNMP Traps => The switch or the computer send traps over the network, and I can see in wireshark, the server receive the traps
SNMP Service (Windows service) => Disabled
SNMP trap (Windows service) => Disabled
Health Service (Windows service) => Enabled
Port 162 UDP => Open and listenning by the MonitoringHost.exe
Firewall rules => Everythinks is OK
SNMP Trap send version is => 2c
SNMP Monitoring device version is => 2c

Do you know a workaround? Or a different way to catch all the traps from a network device and show them (traps) on a event views.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Yan Li,
I read your link, and I found this :
The network devices must be discovered and registered as ICMPSNMP devices.
And when I make the dicovery the first time, ICMP doesn't work, so I put only SNMP. This morning I tried with ICMP and SNMP, but the same problem come to me. And I found the rootcause of the problem with this post : http://www.code4ward.net/main/Blog/tabid/70/EntryId/105/Troubleshooting-Network-Discovery-in-SCOM-2012.aspx
I allowed the SNMP service, ping, and Health Service, just after I try a second time to dicover my device and it's work (ICMP and SNMP).
I recreat all my management pack and the rule. And now it's work! Thank you very much for your help!!
    Have a nice day

  • SNMP Monitoring Etherchannel LACP Bandwidth

Can someone please describe how I  would work out how to monitor the bandwidth usage of an etherchanel on WS-C3750V2-24PS-S
What is the process  I  use to find the MIB / OID I need. It seems like a wild goose chase.
Can someone please lay out the process , where I search on CISCOs website, commands  I use etc.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Ruben,
The MIBs for the concentrator is here:
http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/netmgmt/cmtk/mibs.shtml . The link takes you to the page where you can get to all the Cisco MIBs. I found the OIDs that I wanted to monitor which were the following:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.6.0 - Peak VPN Users
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.9.0 - Active Sessions
What you probably want to see as well is active Site-To-Site, you can use this OID:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.3076.2.1.2.17.1.7.0 - Active L2L Sessions
In order to find the OIDs, use the GetIF utility and download the MIB package they have. It is a large zip file and contains all these MIBs too. Use the MIB walker and go down the tree to .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.altigaRoot.altigaGeneric.altigaMib

  • Prime\SNMP Monitoring of dynamic interfaces

Hi - Is anyone aware of a method of monitoring the bandwidth utilisation on a dynamic interface on a WLC?
I'd like to monitor the traffic on each dynamic interface to generate usage stats on centrally switched guest and employee SSID's.
    Thanks

You have to get that stats from switch where you defined those SVI. WLC dynamic interface not terminate any L3 traffic  & switch SVI is the place to go.
If you have netflow monitoring or simple snmp monitoring tool, you can get that stats from the switch.

  • Recommended product for syslogging and snmp monitoring

    Hi,
We currently use KIWI syslog but can anyone recommend a better product for syslogs from Firewalls, Routers and Switches. Our current product creates a seperate text file per day per device. Ideally I would like all these to be combined (or combinable for display purposes) into one log that shows to update realtime and have the ability to filterout "background noise" - stuff we know is acceptable, as well as being able to run simple or quick searches and reports. Ideally for asbout 200+ devices.
Am I too hopeful or is there a product out there that can do this (that also will not break my companies bank account).
Also, recommended products for SNMP monitoring if better than we currently use would be useful - currently using Orion and SNMPc.
    Regards
    Adrian

    Adrian,
We use syslog-ng for RHEL. It can do what you need as far as writing to files and filtering out background noise, but it is not a search/reporting tool. If KIWI does the latter, I imagine you could tell it to read from the file that syslog-ng creates.
It is open source for writing files through version 3.1.4. Later versions require licensing to write to files or if you are using a Windows OS.
    http://www.balabit.com/downloads/files/syslog-ng/open-source-edition/3.1.4
    Here are some other options:
    Rsyslog: http://www.rsyslog.com/
    Splunk: http://www.splunk.com/

  • Monitor Monthly Bandwidth Usage

I feel like I am trying to find a needle in a haystack.
My broadband internet provider has recently announced strict bandwidth caps on all of their accounts whereas it was pretty lax up until now, and since I know that more and more ISP's in North America are going with this model I was wondering what everyone is using to keep track of their usage?
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a utility that maybe sits in the menubar or whatever that can monitor inbound and outbound traffic over wired or wireless connections that can differentiate between local network traffic and the cable modem traffic..?
    Any options are welcomed.

I have the same need which I assume is growing for many and thus done some research in this area. Apparently, applications such as NetUse and iNet Network have been able to measure total internet usage on the Airport Extreme, until recently.
Unfortunately, 6.x Airport firmware updates have eliminated something called SNMP Monitoring which has undermined the ability for these apps to measure the traffic. Very frustrating!
To my knowledge, SurplusMeter only tracks internet usage on one computer which is of limited use in a multi-device environment.

  • External Monitor Shows Only Black Screen ??

Recently, my PowerBook G4 12" stopped working properly with my external monitor. My external monitor is a Dell 2005FPW that is connected to my laptop via a mini-DVI adapter, a VGA cable to the VGA port on the 2005FPW. When connected to the laptop, the 2005FPW goes black; otherwise, the monitor shows it's "rest" screen which is a bouncing color bar.
This system has worked without problems for years. I changed nothing in the configuration and (possible red herring) the only "event" prior to the problem developing was that I installed the "Security Update 2008-005 (PowerPC) v 1.0".
I have confirmed that the monitor and VGA cable are working with my wife's laptop.
Today, I replaced the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, and the problem hasn't gone away.
    Any suggestions?
    Michael

Did it develop around the same time, after you downloaded the security update?

  • Satellite A100-646 and external monitor shows black screen

    Hello to everybody,
I have a similar problem with A100-646 (bought in Italy). Laptop's LCD and external monitor shows black screen but system boots without other problem. When laptop is not used for a long time (half a year) it work for one week without any problem.
Unfortunately, there is no proper service in a place where I live. Perhaps, there is a problem with power supply.
Is there other idea? Does anybody have a service manual? ([email protected])

It is not easy to find shop where you can order original and new hardware components.
Best source for such parts is definitely eBay where you can buy used but well working components.
Upgrade? You must know that upgrade on mobile computers is not the same as on desktops. Cooling possibilities are not the best and each notebook model has optimized cooling system for original parts. So new graphic card can be more powerful and produce more heat and it is definitely not good for your notebook. So best thing you can do is to replace it with original part.

  • How do I uninstall SyncMate Server, Activity Monitor shows it still there after appzapper uninstall of SyncMate app? Killing in AM proceeds with a SyncMate Server startup again??

How do I uninstall SyncMate Server, Activity Monitor shows it still there after appzapper uninstall of SyncMate app? Killing in AM proceeds with a SyncMate Server startup again??
Mavricks, MacbookPro, typical config of everything and standard business user, no heavy graphics, animation or media editing. MS Office, web apps, etc.
I have the same issue with Logmein, which I installed a trial, uninstalled with appzapper, which I thought does a good job of untangling the components of apps but for these 2 it doesn't.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx,

Usually applications like these have their own uninstallers, either build into the installer ( ! ) itself or as a separate uninstaller app. Check the site of the software provider for instructions.

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on CPU%, see if anything using too much CPU% when this happens, click on Memory tab, do you have many Pageouts?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive in Disk Utilty by highlighting the Drive & looking at the bottom of the window.

  • SNMP monitoring of Oracle 10g?

    Hi there,
I'm curious about using SNMP technology to monitor Oracle 10g databases.
I've done some light reading on the subject and I'm now at the stage
where I have a few questions.
-What exactly do I need to configure in my Oracle 10g environment?
-Is Enterprise Manager the best and/or only UI available for me
    to carry out configuration chores?
-I see no SNMP specific documentation for 10g; why is that?
-I do see a good document for 9i:
Oracle SNMP Support Reference Guide Release 9.2.0 Part Number A96672-01
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/em.920/a96672/toc.htm
Is the above document suitable for configuring SNMP monitoring of Oracle
    in a 10g environment?
    -moi

I'm able to set up traps via the EM website following these instructions:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b40002/notification.htm
However, what I'm really looking for is the ability to do snmp gets. I need functionality similar to how the old school DBSNMP under OMS used to work. These commands seem to be totally missing. I found the following documentation:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16244/chap2.htm#sthref74
Which indicates there should be an snmp subfolder under $ORACLE_HOME/sysman, but that folder does not exist in my installation. I installed Oracle EE. Is there another package I need to install in order to make the subagent run like a normal snmp agent?
So far if I do a:
    emctl start dbconsole
that starts up the EM Website and I can use that no probelm. If I...
emctl start agent -- I get:
    Starting agent ... started.
issuing a 'emctl staus agent' gives me a normal status message. Things start to get strange when I try to start the subagent, which to my understanding is what I need running in order to to talk to net-snmp, which is the master agent running on this host. Here's what happens:
    [zaro@cheetah bin]$ ./emctl start subagent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2005 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Starting sub agent .....started
    [zaro@cheetah bin]$ ./emctl status subagent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2005 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    Sub agent is not running..
I guess my question is how do I get to have the ability I used to have back in 8i to start up dbsnmp and then have my SNMP monitoring app "discover" the agent and use its instrumentation to get data?

  • Additonal VGA monitor showing in Display properties.

I have a problem, I am currently running Window 7 Pro 64 and when i restarted my laptop it now has an additional monitor showing in the display properties.  I do not have an external VGA monitor connected to it, and I have tried to remove the
display adapters in hopes of remove the additional mystery monitor, but after removal of the display adapter drivers and a reboot the extra monitor comes back.  Can anyone help?

    Hi,
According to your description, the hardware driver is also related to the BIOS of your computer, to confirm this, try to start the computer in safe mode in the way below:
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers
Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.
Click the Start button Picture of Start button, click the arrow next to the Shut Down button Picture of Shut Down button, and then click Restart.
    Do one of the following:
Restart your computer, press and hold the F8 key. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the safe mode option you want, and then press Enter.
Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
You can refer to this for more details:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
If this works for you, the BIOS should be upgraded, go to the official site to upgrade the BIOS  accordingly.

  • Why does Activity Monitor show traffic to my external drive?

Because one of my email accounts was hacked a couple of months ago (from my provider's end, I'm convinced), I have been monitoring network usage on my iMac using Activity Monitor. Yesterday, I noticed almost continuous use, altho "spiky".  The spikes were very regular and high and just kept going on and on.  I shut down all my apps (including mail, browser, etc.) except Photoshop.  Spikes still there.  Pulled out the Ethernet cord.  Spikes still there.  Shut down blue tooth, wi-fi - spikes still there.  Overnight, I shut down my computer.  This a.m. when I powered up, still spikes.  I noticed Time Machine was running.  Stopped it, and spikes stopped.  I have my back up on a separate external hard drive.  Why in the world would Activity Monitor show this as "network activity"?  Is there any way I can use settings that would show only "real" network activity, from outside my wi-fi, blue-tooth, and external drives? Spiky right now (can't get screen shot to upload), but more irregular. Have browser, email, and others open. Time Machine not running.
Maybe there's some other app that would help me watch my network usage in the way I would like. Please recommend.   Thx!

  • Prime Infrastructure monitor link Bandwidth

    Hello,
I would like to know if is possible to monitor a link bandwidth with Cisco Prime Infrastructure and send an e-mail when the bandwidth utilization exceeds a certain threshold.
    Thank you,
    Marco Bartulihe

    Hi Marco,
To monitor the Bandwidth utilization , you need to have "Assurance License" .
To use this feature "Interface Tx and Rx Utilization", your Prime Infrastructure
    implementation must include Assurance licenses.
    See below User Guide:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1.2/user/guide/capchange.html
Here is the Prime Infrastructure Ordering Guide where it explains the Assurance feature:
