SNMP not responding on callmanager servers
Folks,
We have a callmanager cluster and we would like to manage the servers using snmp, when i run snmp walker, i get a response from few and no response from others? has anyone run into the same issue?
Hi there,
- is the SNMP service running on the servers?
- is the community name you are using correct?
- what kind of SNMP "walker" are you using?

Hi,
I have a Windows 2003 R2 server with SNMP enabled.
I monitor it via Nagios, and have been working fine since a few days ago, that snmp started to not answering.
I've removed SNMP services, and reinstalled, clean registry entries, but unsuccedfully.
What I see strange is that when I type "netstat -an | find "161"" , I got:
UDP 0.0.0.0:161 *:*
UDP x.x.x.x:161 *:* (where x.x.x.x is the IP address assinged to the network card).
The rest of servers only show:
UDP 0.0.0.0:161 *:*
I think this could be the cause, but don't know how to solve it.
There is no firewall.
Thanks,this maybe helpful...

Enterprise DNS servers are not responding when using Windows NLB with Direct Access 2012
Hi
We have installed Direct Access 2012 as one server installation:
- Two network cards. First one in DMZ and second one in internal network
- Two consecutive IP addresses configured in DMZ because of Teredo
- PKI because of Win7 Clients IPSec
- Our corporate network is native IPv4 so we use DNS64/NAT64 and DA-server is configured as DNS
- DA-servers are VMWare virtual machines
One server installation works fine and now we want to use Windows NLB as load balancing. NLB installation goes fine too,
but problem is DNS. If we still try to use DA-server as DNS there comes error message below
None of the enterprise DNS servers 2002:xxxx:xxxx:3333::1 used by DirectAccess clients for name resolution are responding. This might affect DirectAccess client connectivity to corporate resources.
When trying to configure DNS using Infrastructure access setup, DNS cannot be validated when using DA-servers DIP or cluster VIP. Only domain local DNS looks to be ok but those have no IPv6 addressess. So how DNS should be configured when using multicast
NLB?
Tried to remove name suffix then adding again => Detect DNS server => DA-server IPv6 address found => validate => The specified DNS server is not responding...
Then tried to ping detected address => General failure
NLB clusters are configured as multicast and static ARPs are configured too. Both clusters can be connected from those subnets as they should be.
Any clues how to fix this?

Says "did not respond", but works with test servers...
Hi all,
This one is driving me crazy! I recently bought an iSight camera and I'm now wanting to get it working with iChat and AIM. I'm behind a Linux firewall of my own construction (ClarkConnect / Fedora based) and at first I couldn't get it to connect to anything, with repeated errors saying that I "did not respond". However, after doing a lot of reading, I've opened up all of the required ports on the firewall and I can happily connect to the 'appleu3test01, 02, 03' servers.
However, attempting to connect to a PC running AIM brings back the "did not respond" error, and no amount of firewall twiddling seems to make it work. I've connected my Mac directly to the cable modem and this is the only way it will connect, and I've tried connecting to two different PCs in different locations. If I try to connect to a PC with AIM on my local network, there's no problem - I'm straight on - but going through the firewall just doesn't play.
I've also tried the trick of port-forwarding ports 16384-16403 to my Mac, but still no luck. Not tried connecting to a remote Mac with iChat yet, just because I'm the only person I know with all the right kit...
If anyone could lend their expertise I would really appreciate it - and so would my blood pressure! ;o)
Thanks in advance,
Andy.Hi Zephyr,
With iChat launcged go to the iChat menu.
Log out of AIM
Go to the Preferences in the same menu.
Go to Accounts
Slect the AIm acount in question in the left hand list.
Now Click the Server Settings tab on the right.
This list the main connection port near the top but under the tabs.
Change this from port 5190 to prot 443.
Log back into AIM
Reason.
iChat logs on to AIM on port 5190.
It also uses Port 5190 to Group chat, send file and pics.
It does this over two interent Portocols
Now some modems need to be port forwarded on ports above a threshold of 1024.
Some go further and want Protocols listed.
Of those a small number will not let you Port Forward two protocols on the same port.
So moving the Login and basic text chat stuff to port 443 (a secure port below 1024) the problem is avoided.

WLC is not responding to SNMP requests.
Customer is using a 4400 WLC.
He has a management tool that works using the SNMP logs from the controller, he can ping the
controller using this management tool, but when he sends SNMP requests from the management tool the
WLC doesn't reply.
The SNMP server IP address is 192.168.122.11 and the WLC's IP address is 10.20.1.31.
I have the following debug taken from the switchport where the WLC is connected.
'debug snmp agent' shows some interesting messages that confirms that the WLC is not sending a packet back.

I have also a packet capture taken from the same switchport, I attach it here.
What could be the reason for not responding? You need to add the management tool in the WLC as a trap reciever.

Alarms not appearing for events - Agent Not Responding
Hi
I'm hoping someone may be able to help with a frustrating issue.
I have a setup with SunMC 4.0 monitoring approx 15 SunMC agents. The problem is some of these agents are not displaying alarms for events that occur.
E.g. if I trigger an alarm on a host by say filling up a filesystem, on some hosts an alarm will appear in the Alarm tab as exepcted, but on other hosts no alarm appears and hence I cannot acknowledge the alarm.
After doing a bit of digging I have found the following:
1) When the event is triggered on the client the trap is sent to the server
2) The server then tries to communicate with the agent on the client and I see this error in the event.log
[012578fd 0086 ]info Jul 28 14:59:06 event eventmgr: sending snmp collection request to XXXX 1161 XXXX for startline 0...................................................................
[012578ff 0098 ]error Jul 28 14:59:06 event eventmgr: event collection failed for XXXX 1161 XXXX line 0 - error {} {Agent Not Responding}.................................................
3) If I snoop between the 2 servers I can see communication between the server and the client on port 1161 so dont believe it is a network issue
4) I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the agent. This strangely cured it on one server with the problem, but on another server the problem persists even after reinstalling the agent multiple times
5) I have logged into the postgress database and can see that events are not being logged in the events table (hence not being displayed in the Sun MC console).
6) I have tried reseeding the agent and that makes no difference
7) I have ensured the agent is listening on one network interface by adding snmpBindAnyAddr = "0" to the agent section of the domain-config.x file
I am not sure where else to look for pointers as to what is going on. What beats me is that the servers which the agents are running on all have identical builds built from jumpstart and are on the same network, yet some work and some dont!
Any help from anyone greatly received...
thanksHi there,
I found a solution to get the alarmflow going again:
1. Delete the node from SunMC Java Console
2. Stop the agent
3. Remove all logfiles in /var/opt/SUNWsymon/log
4. Start the agent
5. Wait 2 minutes and add the node in SunMC Java Console
After these steps I can see alarms coming through and when adjusting thresholds I can trigger new alarms which show up on the Hostview Alarms tab.
Unfortunately, this only seems to be a temporary solution, at least for some nodes.
Anyway, I figured I'd share this info with everyone. Maybe it will help with your investigation and if someone finds a permanent solution please feel free to post it here ;-)

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011. I have had this issue on an off for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario Details
1) Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
2) I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
3) Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
4) Once in a while, the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver. Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
5) I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop. Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
1) Restarting my adapter
2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
3) Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
[restart laptop]
5) Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
b) OpenDNS
208 67 222 222
208 67 220 220
c) Google DNS
8 8 8 8
8 8 4 4
6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014. It still did not resolve the issue. My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010. I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall. I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

Web hosting on home computer not responding (sometimes)
Using iWeb I published my personal website to my home computer, an iMac with i3 processor. Sometimes it works fine, but other times the website fails to open' because the server where this page is located isn’t responding,' I figure this is probably because the computer is sleeping at the time, even though I set the Energy Saver in Preferences to 'Wake for Network Access'. Is this an inherent problem with web hosting on a personal computer, or a fixable problem? Hosting on one's own computer seems like a great idea, no size limits, no ads on 'free' hosting sites, but this is a drag.
You're using "client think" and not "server think".
Servers do not sleep.
Technically, various servers can and do power down some system components, but web-facing servers are almost never configured to go into a low-power sleep state.
Most servers aren't usually receiving nor expecting a WoL packet from remote (off-LAN) clients, nor should there be a way for a remote client to explicitly send a WoL to a server that's configured for WoL.
Yes, you can see server farms using WoL within the farm, but that's typically in response to an increase in server load and the actions of internal server and network processing. If the load is spiking, toss a few WoL packets and spool up another server or two. And you can and usually do see solutions akin to the Xserve Lights-Out Management (LOM) board or an HP iLO management processor, and where the server is shut down, but the management processor remains awake and active.
And I would disagree with the degree of certainty expressed by etresoft here. There can be reasons to run local servers. Yes, that's not typical, and yes, there can be good deals with hosted services, and yes, the connections can be bandwidth-limited. But there can be reasons for some individuals and organizations to host locally. -
Another Remote DVR "STB Not Responding" Issue
I've had my FIOS install for a couple weeks now and 3-4 days ago tried to activate the Remote DVR feature. In all other respects my system is working fine. I can login to the FIOS TV Central page, see my STB in the listing, it shows that Remote DVR is enabled.
My STB works fine, records, has the guide, widgets, etc.
My computer network is also working fine. STB shows in my router control software, has a static IP (which does match the IP in the STB settings).
But no matter what I do, the TV Central site will always error with a "Set Top Box is not responding"
I've turned on and off the feature on the STB but that did not make any difference. I see in my router that there are 8 non-editable Port Forwarding rules set up, all identical.
192.168.1.101 Verizon FIOS Service Any HDM_CR_001404_QIP-6416_000-03081-42316-021 - TCP Any -> 35001 Active
Any thoughts here? Reading through the forums it would appear this is a somewhat common and finicky issue. Lots of folks see it and it "magically" gets better, or worse, or flip flops between. The connection between your DVR and one of Verizon's Servers sometimes 'breaks', and in my experience, cycling the router and/or the DVR won't help. The connection needs to be reset from the Verizon end. If you call or use chat to the service people, they can usually fix it while you are online with them.
It doesn't involves wiping out anything on your DVR.
I went through this a couple weeks ago. Everything except worked, except for online, it always says the unit was not responding. I think I waited about a week before I finally ask Verizon to fix it. -
After setting up email account the apple imap does not respond.
Able to get on the internet with no problem but when I try to set up an email account no matter whether yahoo or gmail I get this message. "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field. I have done this numerous times with no success. I deleted all email accounts since they did not work and still have had no success. The problem has to be with this ipad. The model number is MB293LL, Serial # V50445YCZ39 VERSION: 3.2.2(7B500). All pertinent information has been put in properly but the unit still is unable to send or receive any email. I am wondering if I should reset the entire unit back to factory specs etc. The form below this asked for an operating system and I put Vista in due to the fact that this system was given to me by someone that I know had Windows Vista on their home computer. If I can change it I would. I just do not know how at present that is why I am coming to this community. Thanks for any help.
I am trying to set up a basic email account through the settings email, contacts etc button on the ipad. When the list of servers comes up I pick yahoo and fill in the pertinent info as far as the correct email address and password. When I try to save it the ipad is the thing that comes up with this message "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is not responding. I have no idea where or how it comes up with this but that is what appears when I try to save the account information it request. The info that JimHdk sent does not work either. Thanks for any help.

New member to "...User did not respond" Error -8 Club
Have been iChatting via an AIM account consistently for several years, with both family and friends using both PCs (using AIM with Windows XP) and Macs (using AIM or .Mac servers)
Two weeks ago, I started receiving the "Video Chat canceled because.... User did not respond" Error. Yes, the illustrious "-8".
Nothing has changed with regard to the hardware I'm using:
2Wire 1070-B DSL Modem set to "Bridge" when installed on 7/05 (used to use an old Alcatel)
Netgear Wireless Router MR814v2 - UPnP enabled, No Port Forwarding
I've read in these forums that some believe the culprit to be one of Apple's Security Updates (either 2006-0071Ti, 2006-008Ti or 2007-001Ti), or Apple's iChatUpdate dated 1.3.07). I have since re-installed OS X 10.4.8 via the ComboUpdate and have not installed the aforementioned updates.
Quicktime is Set to "1.5 Mbps Ti/Intranet/LAN"
iChat Bandwidth Limit Set to "None"
Mac Firewall "Off" (has always been handled via the Router)
I can connect flawlessly with Apple's iChat Testers (appleeu3test01, et al)
I can video chat via Skype (albeit sluggishly with my trusty G4 600Mhz)
I can video chat via SightSpeed (again, sluggishly due to older processor)
I can audio chat via Skype, SightsSpeed and Gizmo
I cannot audio chat via iChat.
I have, though, been recently able to "One-Way Video Chat" w/audio with a friend using his iChat via our AIM accounts (as of 1.30.07). Go figure.
I've read many similar posts in this forum for a few days now. Have attempted whatever fix or workaround or suggestion from Ralph (great work, BTW!). But the problem persists, and I am ready to disable iChat entirely and dust off my tin cans and string. And since Apple apparently has no interest in addressing the issue (Thanks for officially stepping away Forum participation altogether, Steve), I'm tossing my hat in this ring looking for any help from those in the know.
Here's my latest Error Log:

I'd appreciate any insight.
My eyes are getting too blurry to continue and have been shooting flames of frustration with what used to be a great application.
Now, iChat is taking up valuable K on my hard drive.
Thanks all!

Thanks for responding. A very frustrating episode I'm having.
Some interesting Add-Ons you have there.
What is iChat Enahancer as I have not heard of it ?

List no ports whatsoever.
Well, that'd odd.
Yet I seem to able to video chat with Apple's Testers with an apparent lack of Ports. I'm stymied.
How are the ports opened in the 2wire device ?
IF it was port Forwarding is it with DHCP ?
If so check the ports are still pointing to the IP
that the computer has.
Honestly, I haven't been "inside" the 2Wire modem since I hooked it up (when I switched to SBC/Yahoo DSL - now ATT/Yahoo). From what I understand, as SBC Tech Support told me when I installed the device, we set the 2Wire modem as a Bridge, and that my Netgear Router is handling my ISP login. The Netgear Router is in charge of any UPnP and Port Forwading duties. And Port Forwarding has NEVER been enabled. This arrangement has been working well all this time.
Nothing about my communications hardware set-up has changed since it was installed. As I mentioned, this problem just started about two weeks ago. I've been video chatting flawlessly via iChat and AIM for years.
I'm afraid if I start digging around inside the 2Wire, I'm going to trip over a setting and REALLY screw things up. Also, getting back into the 2Wire modem is proving to be a bit of a sketch. The usual access via a browser is not working as of late, even with a direct computer connection to the modem. : (
Also check the Advanced button in the Mac Firewall
and make sure it is NOT blocking all UDP Traffic.
My Mac Firewall is NOT active, and has never been active. Any Firewall is being provided by the Netgear Router.
Has 2wire started to offer a VoIP service ?
Or have you started to use some VoIP equipment like
Vonage ?
Not to my knowledge on the 2Wire VoIP service. They provide hardware "gateways" for DSL providers.
No Vonage equipment installed on my system.
I'm inclined to believe this is an iChat/AIM Server issue that's been triggered by recent software/server updates at either Apple's or AOL's end, though I'm no techie. Maybe the iChat mice on the treadmill in my computer just gave up and called it a day.
Again, thanks for all your help. Hopefully there will be joy soon.

HELP SMTP_SUBMIT server is not responding

SunOS msgmta-4 5.9 Generic_122300-38 sun4u sparc SUNW,Netra-240
I found other postings like this on this site, but they don't seem to apply to my servers. I checked the job_controller.log,
and it's empty.
The default log shows:
[23/Aug/2010:10:30:10 -0800] msgmta-4 msprobe[28092]: General Critical: SMTP_SUBMIT server is not responding
[23/Aug/2010:10:35:10 -0800] msgmta-4 msprobe[28545]: General Error: function=getserverresponse|port=587|error=failed to get server banner
I did the obvious thing and stopped msg and restarted it, however, this did not resolve the problem.thank you. I found out from a co-worker that this was not the showstopper that I thought might have been the problem which turned out to be a hung process on one of the other servers. I thought that there was a way to mark this as resolved, but for some reason I am not finding it right now.

Safari 4.1.3 often not responding on powerbook g4?
I seem to get a lot of 'hanging' and 'not responding' from Safari 4.1.3 on osx 10.4.11.
Some sites such as www.economist.com play havoc. Should I go back to an earlier version of Safari>Do not attempt to install a version of Safari not designed for your version of OS X.
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
and here:
http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS) -
Other members not responding when a clustered member is not reachable
We have an product that uses Coherence 3.3 we have cluster 5 members.
We are finding that if for whatever reason a cluster member is down or unresponsive (eg doing a garbage collection) the other members are then trying to do some work to compensate, which leaves them not responding to requests. The nodes have been configured in a unicast mode so each node has been specified in the configuration.
Examples we've seen:
1) member 3 does a stop the world gc all other members pause - we see the following in the logs on all other members
2009-12-31 00:20:18.291 Oracle Coherence EE 3.3/387 <Warning> (thread=PacketPublisher, member=6): Experienced a 1982 ms communication delay (probable remote GC) with Member(Id=1, Timestamp=2009-12-30 16:01:26.85, Address=172.29.4.16:8090, MachineId=46352, Location=process:27758@and-msg4); 30 packets rescheduled, PauseRate=0.0030, Threshold=901
In this instance we had a pause of 19 seconds.
Can we configure the nodes to not wait if communication to member is not possible. How?
2) Take a single node down during the day (off peak hours) The other members start logging a lot of coherence debugging which I've been told not to worry about, but during this period the applicatiokn is not processing requests and causes timeout to the calling servers.
When a member is removed from the cluster what are the other nodes doing (redistributing cache?)? How can we minimise the fallout from this so that we can handle this more gracefully.
I would be grateful for any help and any useful links to documentation. It may well be that our configuration is incorrect as we leave most things as the default values. I could do with some pointers on where to start looking and which parameters to tweak as there seem to be quite a few.
Regards
Fez
What can we do to minimise this?
Edited by: user12406699 on 04-Jan-2010 07:31Hi there thank you for the suggestions.
1) I understand that the pause during the gc will be helped by ensuring they are as short as possible. I have tinkered with the CMS parameters and I think our old was becoming very fragmented and therefore hitting the point where a stop the world occurred. I have limited the number of threads and increased the heap space. After a couple of days we are seeing that the concurrent garbage collector is doing work more frequently but with no stop the worlds. So I think issue 1 has will be resolved by this.
2) This issue still exists. When we stop tomcat server for one of the nodes we see a pause and lots of debug messages from coherence during this time the other node are no longer processing requests as we can see the number of running requests increase and the time to respond increases as well across the node. Because of the amount of traffic we are recieving our clients soon timeout.
Going over the sugestions
a) graceful shutdown of the cluster node
How? Currently we stop traffic being driven to the node and then stop tomcat. Is there a way to also gracefully stop node being apart of the cluster??
b) Set <timeout-milliseconds>
I don't quite understand the documentation for this setting
"Default value is 60000.
Note: For production use, the recommended value is the greater of 60000 and two times the maximum expected full GC duration."
So we will be currently using the default. To me 60 seconds sounds very high for a production timeout which makes me think that this is not what I had in mind. Is there anything in the configuartion that may help?
