Snooze an email message? (Automator Workflow in Mail)

I want to snooze an email message in Mail.
Meaning make it disappear and come back at certain time later...
Anyone have thoughts on how to approach this in Automator?
I've been told to have Mail pass the message to iCal and have it resent that way, but I was hoping to just work within the Mail.app.

Here's a way to do almost exactly what you're asking (slightly different) by using Automator to pass the message to iCal:

  • Automator Workflow for Mail Printing?????

    How can I print out all all mail (250 emails) in a single mailbox into a single file, which I can save as a PDF?
    I looked even for an Automator workflow that would
    Print; Preview: Save As
    so that I would then have a serires of PDFs that I could then import all the individual PDF pages in to Acrobat to create a single document, but Automator does not have these options.
    Any thougt would be very helpful. Thanks!!
      Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    I don't believe you can do it the first way.
    However there are at least three ways to do it the second way.
    1) Use System Events GUI scripting exclusively to drive the user interface i.e., selecting menu items and pushing buttons;
    2) Use some of 1) along with Mail's AppleScripting capabilities. GUI scripting would still be needed for Preview as it does not have AppleScript capabilities;
    3) Install the cups-pdf solution called "Virtual Printer" (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20219) that allows one to create pdf files from anything that can be printed using the print dialog. This would also have to be driven using one or both of GUI scripting and Applescript.
    If you do a lot of PDF printing then I would recommend 3) and generally 1) is less robust than 2). Myself or others on this forum should be able to help with whichever solution you prefer.

    if email message is in sent mailbox and also in draft mailbox is it a duplicate that happned by mistake or do i nee to send it agin to make sure it went through?

    I've seen emails get stuck in the Drafts mailbox even after they have been sent. Check in the Sent mailbox to see if it has really gone out. If not, send it again. If so, delete it from the Drafts mailbox.

  • Edit Email Messages in Mail.app

    Does anyone know a way to edit an email message already received in mail.app? I found this to be a useful feature of Eudora and even Outlook, but it doesn't seem to be in Mail.app.
    Thanks for any help. - M.

    Thanks for the replies. But that link does not solve the problem: it just provides workarounds.
    I would like to know if there is any way to edit a message that has been received in my mail.app program.
    As for any legal issues, I find them to be not very compelling. Although it is true that courts now admit emails into evidence as if they were any other document, that does not suggest that they should not be modifiable. That courts admit such electronic documents into evidence certainly imposes no burden on me, the email receiver, to maintain the email's original format. Moreover, there is nothing improper about making programs or add-ons that facilitate the making of such changes in emails unless and until Congress decides to take up the issue and make it a crime to modify received emails.
    Since that has not happened, and is unlikely to in the near future, I would still love it if someone could provide either instructions or some mail.app extension that allows one to edit received emails.
    Thanks for any help! - M.

  • I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4

    Hi,
    I can't sync my all email message between macbook pro and iPad 4. This sync only complete account setting but not email message.
    Can anybody help me to fix the problem?

    You can't "fix" this problem because you can't sync email messages from the Mac mail app, you can only sync your email account settings. Messages will not sync using iTunes.

  • Osx mavericks - cant move or save email messages

    In all the older operating systems it would allow a user to drag an email message from Mail to anywhere you wanted to stash it; the desktop or any folder. Now with Mavericks it won't allow any moving or saving of an email message outside of the Mail apps internal folders.

    I restarted the iMac and now it seems to allow this operation - so I consider this problem resolved for now.

  • Spotlight suddenly not listing email messages

    I noticed today that Spotlight wasn't listing recent emails when I performed a search of known content in a message. I could use Spotlight to find older emails just fine.
    In the mail app itself, I can use search with "Entire Message" selected and it will find all messages including the very latest ones. As I understand it, Mail uses Spotlight to index mail contents.
    I tried reindexing just the mail folder by adding it to the privacy pane in Spotlight settings then removing it again. I noticed that reindexing was taking place but once complete, Finder or Spotlight wouldn't show any results at all - not even for older emails.
    I tried a full reindex of the entire drive with the same result. I can find emails just fine within the mail app but not using Spotlight.
    If spotlight wasn't indexing the emails, I don't think I'd be able to find the emails in the mail app so there is clearly some other issue preventing Mail Messages from appearing in the standard Spotlight results. I've tried unticking Mail Messages and then ticking it again in the Spotlight preferences.
    I recently installed the latest security update for Snow Leopard. I don't know if this is somehow related as I believe the Mail app was modified.
    Anyone have any ideas please?

    To update.
    I've performed a permission repair using disk utility.
    I've also copied the Envelope Index file within the Mail folder to my desktop and then relaunched Mail to let it rebuild it.
    If I type in Spotlight kind:message, it is listing a single email but only one I happen to have in Library/Mail Downloads. Interestingly, the one it finds is of extension .eml whereas all of the email message in my main mail folder are .emlx files. Any relevance?

    I want to write a script or Automator workflow/app that automatically emails a random shortcut of the day to three recipients. The source is from an Excel spreadsheet. One column is the shortcut, and the second column is the definition. Anyone have similar experience and know that this would work?

    I have had a first stab at the script, below.  It uses a file to store the shortcuts and command [descriptions].  You should be able to see from the script annotations how to add a new one.  (I populated 1-4 with real data, but got lazy after that, so you have a few placeholders to work with first.
    As I have noted, once you are happy that you have all the data in the file, you can comment out part of the script for ongoing use.  (BTW, my reluctance to use Excel is that I don't currently have it installed and I don't want to offer wrong advice.  If you have Numbers, I do have that and could probably modify to work with a spreadsheet from there.  This might be especially useful if you have the data already sitting in Excel.)
    A few things came-up whilist I was writing the script:
    1.     Currently, all recipients will not only get the same tip at the same time, but they will see the names and email addresses of the others who receive them.  It is possible to modify this.
    2.     I have added a property gRandomCheck which keeps track of which shortcut has already been used (since the last time the script was compiled.  This will prevent the same tip being sent more than once.    When all tips have been sent once, the script will alert you and not send anything until reset.  It does not check on a per-addressee basis (which would be a refinement).  (If you add a new addressee at this stage, the whole process will start again, and you may not really want this to be the behaviour.)
    3.     The way that I have built the list, commandList, is deliberately cumbersome - it's for the sake of clarity.  If you prefer, you can construct the whole list as {{shortcut:"X", command:"X"}, {shortcut:"Y", command:"Y"}}
    Have a look - I am sure you will have questions!
    SCRIPT STARTS HERE  Paste the following lines (thru the end) into a new AppleScript Editor document and press RUN
    --The property gRandomCheck persists between runs and is used to stop sending the same hint twice.
    property gRandomCheck : {}
    --I am defining a file on the desktop.  It doesn't have to be in this location
    set theFolder to path to desktop
    set commandFile to (theFolder as text) & "CommandFile.csv"

  • Blank incoming email messages - only in Mail

    There's some email lists that I subscribe to, with automated earthquake and volcano information, and recently the emails are blank, when I view them using Mac Mail. However, if I check my email with a browser, I can see the content of the message. If I look at these emails in Mail with the Raw Source, they are still blank. Does anybody know what is up? Someone thought perhaps a newer version of Mail is pickier about html. I've not found anyone else with the same problem in my office, and I don't see a mention of it on the discussion boards.
    Cheers, Peter

    First off, view the Long Header details (from Mail, choose View > Message > Long Headers; from MobileMe Mail, the gearbox button (list of actions) > Preferences > Viewing > Enable "Show Long Headers"). This exposes a whole lot of heretofore invisible data.
    Making sense of it is another issue, but I think I may have found something (from a Mac user, to boot) that seems to hit the nail right on the head.
    Robert Vaessen has a very extensive, scholarly post, dated January of this year, about this very issue on his site at <http://www.robsworld.org/blankemail.html>. The post is detailed, technical, and certainly worth reading for anyone who is concerned enough to have sought out this discussion thread. But to cut to the chase, here is his conclusion:
    +"It is my opinion, (based upon more than ten years worth of fighting spam, ten years of running web sites, and extensive research) that these blank emails (in my experience), and millions like them are part of a growing spam problem. These blank email messages represent part of a spammers whitelisting effort. Responses which generate bounce messages permit the spammer to refine his/her recipient list, while the ones that get delivered are marked as valid addressees. These lists are then used by the spammer in his/her own campaign, sold to other spammers, or both."+
    He recommends (and provides some how to's for) reporting the emails back up the food chain as the best thing we can do to help cauterize the bleeding. What I'm wondering now is if we can somehow (SpamSieve, maybe?) set our Macs to bounce anything from the offending servers, so that our address becomes 'dead' to them.
    I'm also pursuing this with MobileMe support—it seems that everything to do with MobileMe is now being handled outside of AppleCare, and the only path is online chatting with them. I'm also curious as to why my MobileMe account seems to be the only place these are surfacing; i.e., are my other accounts' servers already bouncing such messages, or am I just not seeing them? If I get anything helpful from MobileMe, I'll post it here.

  • Set Mail Signature with Run AppleScript Action inside an Automator workflow

    Hello,
    Not sure if I am posting this at the right spot, but I would need some assistance. I am trying to write an Automator Workflow application. The purpose for this application is to:
    1. Drag one or more attachments on the application/droplet icon
    2. Automator workflow creates a new mail message in Mail with the attached items already addressed and ready to go to
    I setup the following Workflow inside Automator:
    1. New Mail Message
    2. Add Attachments to Front Message
    So this is all working just fine. Now I would like to add a step in between of type "Run AppleScript". In this "Run AppleScript" action I have the following code:
    on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "Mail"
    set the message signature of input to signature "My Signature Name"
    end tell
    return input
    end run
    So my workflow looks now like this:
    1. New Mail Message
    2. Run AppleScript
    3. Add Attachments to Front Message
    I am getting the following error:
    Can’t make «class situ» "My Signature Name" of application "Mail" into the expected type.
    So, in essence I am trying to select a signature for that particular new mail message in this workflow. And that does not work. Any help would be appreciated.
    Martin

    first, you don't need the extra action to add attachments. if you drop some items on the saved application they will be passed to the "new Mail message" action as input and will be added as attachments. also, in my testing it seems that the processes of attaching the attachments seem to bump against the process of adding the signature. it get the same result as you originally but if I add a delay to the run applescript action then it works as it should so try
    1. new mail message.
    2. run applescript
    on run {input, parameters}
    delay 1
    tell application "Mail"
    set the message signature of (item 1 of input) to signature "My Signature Name"
    end tell
    return input
    end run

    Open Mail, go to top and under Mail select Preferences. Click on general and make sure where it says 'Dock Unread Count, you have it set to Inbox Only or All Mailboxes, whichever you want and that it isn't set to none. If it is already set then try cetting it to none, close mail, restart, open Mail and go and change it again from none to what you want.
    Good Luck
