  • Gray Diamonds

How can I change the settings such that it does not open a pdf file from within Safari containing a background of small gray diamonds?

Still problems, but they are different from before. Since some of this may help others, I will summarize my actions to this point.
Reformat and reinstall MAC OSX for clean start.
Shrink mac partition (I used boot camp, and then deleted boot camp partition)
Get refit and make sure everything syncs and shows only the two partitions (I also found gpt fdisk helpful for this step, since things were out of sync from the beginning, and it was easier to delete the partition with gdisk)
Then used the latest gparted live to make the new partitions and turn on the boot flag. Now had a /dev/sda3 for / ext2 and /dev/sda4 linux swap
    Resyncd with refit
When all was in sync I used the archboot may 2011 disk.
mounted my prepared partitions and used http as the source for packages for arch 64 bit
    exited before installing boot loader
/dev/sda3 is still mounted on /tmp/install at this point so I mount -t proc none /tmp/install/proc
    mount -o bind /dev /tmp/install/dev
    chroot /tmp/install
    grub-install /dev/sda3 --FAILS--
    so I did a cp /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/* /boot/grub
    then grub
    root (hd0,2)
    setup (hd0,2)
    and rebooted
Now when I picked the tux logo in refit, I could see the grub menu at least but nothing booted. I had to go into the /boot/grub/menu.lst file to edit the locations of all the files. It had root as (hd0,0) changed to hd0,2 and it also did the kernel and image files as /.. instead of /boot/..
After changing that it actually seemed like it my boot. But it failed with trouble deteriming the file type of the  root=/dev/sda3  so I replaced this with root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/<myUUID> and subsequently added rootfstype=ext2 ro nomodeset
Now, I am stuck in the boot process with the error "Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/disk/... '. You are being dropped to a recovery shell.
    Now What??

  • Wireless drivers will not work properly in Win XP

    Hi,
I have a late 2007 white macbook and when I got the computer then I immediately installed Windows XP so I could have Microsoft Office. When I did so I installed the Boot Camp Drivers from the Mac instal disc 1. It worked fine for about a year, I don't use Windows much at all except for maybe powerpoint and for some reason the wireless internet stopped working.
I've tried reinstalling and repairing the drivers to no avail. Some of them like the iSight camera work and the eject button/ right click with two fingers.
The gray diamond for Boot Camp that used to appear in the windows toolbar (bottom right corner) does not load anymore. I'm not sure why not. that's probably the problem but I used the same install disc I used the first time (reinstalled them twice now) and this time it will not work completely.
Windows XP wireless utility does not recognize the signal, when you click "refresh network list" nothing happens....it doesn't even search.
Finally I tried installing the third party driver from Broadcom which has a wireless utility. this utility at least recognizes my network but cannot connect. the log for the utility just keeps saying:
    "Initializing Wireless State Machine"
The network conects fie to OSX and the three windows computers in my house....there is no protection.
    Thanks for the help!

  • How to get back into Mac OS X Leopard after installin Bootcamp

OK have finally installed Bootcamp and now want to get back to the safe world of Mac again, however although I have been following the instructions in the manual which tell me either to...
    a) set the default operating system in Windows by clicking on the Boot Camp system tray item (which doesn't seem to exist) or if it does is so hidden that I cannot find it, or,
    b) select an operating system during startup by holding down the option key (which is impossible as I don't have such a key on my non mac wired keyboard)
neither of them seem to work. Whatever I do I cannot get back into my Mac operating system.
If anyone has any ideas as to what I can try I would appreciate your help.
    Thanks

    Hello:
I believe the following should help. In Windows XP, make your way to C:\Program Files\Bootcamp. You should see an icon labeled "kbdMgr". Double click that and look for the tab labeled "Startup Disk". Click your Mac OS volume as the startup disk. By now, you should also see the gray diamond for the Bootcamp manager in your system tray. Clicking that brings up a menu that allows you to restart in Mac OSX or enter the Bootcamp control panel where you can select a startup disk.

  • ICR - Data Missing From Reconciliation Screen, Process 2-FBICR2

So I cleared my transactional data to post new documents. I ran FBICA2, and some were assigned, others not (as planned). I check the List of Records in the auxiliarry programs and all records are there. When I run FBICR2 for the period and company code I get a green checkmark message "No Differences Exist; no unassigned data records selected." This not true because I posted documents where differences exist and there are several unassigned records from FBICA2. The Hierarchy tree on the FBICR2 screen shows Company>TP>'No Data Records Selected' (with gray diamond). Can someone please shed light on this issue or give me some suggestions from your experience?
    Thanks!

    Hello John,
Did you run the auxiliary program to recalculate the totals yet? The navigation tree is built from the totals records. If you delete data using the auxiliary program the totals are not recalculated automatically...

  • CRM 6.0 Agent Inbox Due Date Advanced Warning

Has anyone implemented Advanced Warning for Due Date for Inbox Items?
We are also looking at defining an Advanced Warning for Due Date for the Inbox  where the icon for each Email in the Agent Inbox would change (Green/Yellow/Red traffic lights) versus the Gray Diamond we see today.
Our requirement is to have all email processed within 72 hours of being received and ideally within 24 hours.  We do not have any specific SLAs configured in our system to day.  We do not have any specific date profiles for email.
We understand this will require date profiles / date management.  Our Transaction Type 004 for Incoming E-Mail has a date profile of 000000000003 which I am assuming is the default.  Appreciate steps to follow for set up if available.

    Hello together,
I a m stuck at the same point. I know it is long ago, but it is worth a try:-)
    I would appreciate your answers.

  • STMS return code and status on imported request

We have a couple of transports that were imported in our Production system in 2008.
When I go to STMS under rc the status is a gray diamond and under ST the status is green.
They were imported in 2008 any reason why the RC status it's not green.
    Transports were imported successfully.
    Thanks
    Joe

    Hello
grey means no import steps performed yet and green under ST mean the request is waiting to be imported. So grey and green are not contradicting each other here. You said they were imported in 2008. At a guess i would say they have since been added to the buffer again?
You can easily confirm that from the logs in STMS. If u see a "selection for import"  - it means the same as addtobuffer on command line level

  • Airport Icons distinguish between what?

Here's a picture of my problem:
    http://marajade.hypermart.net/airport.jpg
It looks a little odd because I had to take a picture of a picture. The initial window wouldn't copy for whatever reason when I used Grab.
Instead of the regular airport signal turning black when I have full access to wireless internet, a weird little gray diamond with a monitor/computer in the center appears and I cannot log online
No matter which internet connection I choose from those available on that drop down menu, the same signal appears.
Now, this happens in certain buildings at my school, but I'm curious what this particular symbol means? Thanks!
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) iPod shuffle / iBook G3 key lime

Ah, okay! So I would have to become a part of the
network to have access to the "free" wireless on the
    drop down menu?
I suspect that this is not free wireless at all, but someone trying to tempt you to connect to what you think is a free network in order to hack/attack your laptop.
Obviously I don't know for sure, but I have certainly seen this kind of thing before.

  • Wireless Keyboard is not working and I cannot boot to MAC using Boot Camp

    Hi,
I cannot get my wireless keyboard to connect to the Mac anymore. I have a 17" iMac that is running Boot Camp. since the Mac keyboard is not working I am using a PC USB keyboard (which does not have an "option" key) without the Option key I cannot enter Mac mode, so I only get the default boot to XP... HELP!!! Is there any other way to get into Mac mode without using the option key on the keyboard? Or is there another key on the PC keyboard that maps to Option?
    Thanks

I wrote up my travails getting the wireless keyboard working, maybe it will help: http://industriousone.com/apple-wireless-keyboard-vs-windows-xp. Otherwise, you can boot into OSX by clicking on the Boot Camp icon in the system tray (looks like a gray diamond) and choose "Reboot in OS X mode" (or something like that, working from memory). In OS X, you can reboot into Boot Camp by going to System Preferences > Startup Disk and choosing Windows. Hope that helps!

  • How can I make my Diamond Viper 550 to work with Solaris 8

I recently installed solaris 8 for intel on my PC and it worked great even on my extended partition of my W98 disk.
The only problem is that I could not get my video driver to work. I tried some drivers but they all gave me the Solaris gray screen of death during installation. Finaly I installed the standard VGA driver and that one worked. The only thing now is that my neighbours can read my screen from the other side of the street and I get dizzy from that virtual desktop.
Can anyone tell me how I can get my Diamond Viper 550 card to work?
    Thanks, Hugo.

Look on www.xfree86.org if your Video Card is supported there.
If it is supported you can find Solaris binaries for Xfree86 on
    ftp://www.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.0.1/binaries/Solaris-8
There are also some hints in the Solaris 2 FAQ about installing Xfree86 that may come handy.

  • K9N2 Diamond: Shared video memory, how to disable?

As on subject: I can see the entry in the bios settings and I can choose the memory amount to share, but I can't disable it (entry is gray and unselectable) and even if I try to set other values than 256M the values resets to it when I save changes to cmos.
In addition windows recognize 512M of ram (which is the maximum value selectable in bios settings about shared memory) less then it would do: I have 4Gb of ram and 2 8800GT 512M: total system ram is 5G. Windows 32 bit see 2,5G of system ram, to reach 4Gb (the maximum overall memory size recognizeble by a 32-bit os) i miss 1,5G, 1 by the graphic boards and the other 512M...I bet is the shared memory. I would disable it so to free up 512M of system ram is there a way to do it?

  • K8N Diamond Plus Questions?

I have a some questions about my K8N Diamond Plus. I recently replaced a K8N Neo Nforce 3 board and some other parts as well. The machine has been working very well with this new board so far but there are a few issues I’d like to get resolved.
    1. Does anyone know if there is a new BIOS out for this board? I have that problem where at start up it shows that I have a new card in one of my PCI slots even though I do not….it does’nt seem to hurt the machine at all it’s just annoying….i’m wondering if they released a BIOS that corrected that?
    2. On my old board I overclocked the machine with no problems at all. Now I’m no expert at over clocking but I do like to dable a little and last time I did I had no problems. This board seems like it will over clock well so I went and got better RAM….i just received some Corsair XMS 2GB DDR 400. I went into the Cell Menu to look at the options for the RAM and saw much, much more then I had on my old Neo board.
I know I need to adjust the CAS Latency, RAS# to CAS# delay, Min RAS# Active Time and the Row Precharge Time for this RAM….people have been saying that their motherboards do not detect the correct timings for this RAM (2.5-3-3-6) so you need to adjust it Manually…along with uping the Voltage to 2.7.
My question is…..do I need to worry about any other options under the MCT Timing Mode besides the 4 I mentioned above? Also…I could’nt seem to adjust the Voltage for the RAM? Every time I high lighted it and hit enter nothing would pop up for me to adjust (and it is white not gray like some things are)….is there something I’m missing that I need to shut off in order to access it???
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can provide me with some answers.

I have not been able to find any information on those other settings.  It is my current project and I am not having a great amount of success.
The defaults for them do not seam to have any adverse effect on stability the system in my signature is my MS-7220 system at FSB=225, CPU multiplier of 12, Memory/FSB =1/1 system is quite stabile if I am not playing with the BIOS settings.
I am working on, some major some minor these current problems.  Watch out for number three it will flat blow your BIOS Parameters.  It happens on my system every time, but I not been able to find any body that is will to trash the BIOS to verify it, so I can be sure it is a real BIOS problem or my system.  “MCP Timing Mode” use to do the same thing, that where the V1.16 BIOS version came form MSI Tech Support sent my that one to fix the problem and this one looks to be the same.
    1.   First boot screen the line “DRAM = 400 MHz, Dual-Channel.” It reads 400 MHz do matter what that actual memory transfer rate actually is.
    2.   Cell Menu parameter “Adjust DDR Voltage (V)”, has two problems (1) the BIOS default voltage is outside the manufacture specification for normal operating range.  BOIS default is 2.65V and manufacture states the Memory Module should be operated between 2.7V minimum and 2.9V maximum.  (2) The voltage cannot be set to the manufactures minimum voltage of 2.7V.  Starting with the BIOS default voltage of 2.65V and you press “+” key once and voltage jumps to 2.75V, press the “-“ key and the voltage jumps back to BIOS default of 2.65V.
    3.   Cell Menu>Memory Configuration>User Config Mode parameter, when set to “Manual” and all of the “User Config Mode” sub-parameters left at BIOS default.  The system will not boot.  When I say will not boot I mean Blank Screen, no beeps, no drive activity, just case and motherboard fans come on.
    4.   Menu “CPU Frequency Configuration”, parameter Adjust CPU VID.   CPU correct voltage tracks the set by about 0.03V high.  Example: if Adjust CPU VID to 1.375V and actual vCore voltage is about 1.405 Volts.  The offset is maintained through the voltage adjustment range of the current CPU.

  • 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011.takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!
    -Christina C.
