  • Problems with snow leopard, labtop, desktop, and final cut 4.0.1

Hello - I was in the apple store awhile ago to have my Mac OS X 10.6.5 worked on. They updated the operating system to snow leopard 10.6. When we got back we reinstalled Final Cut Express, which I have been using on my laptop Mac OS X 10.5.8. I use an external hard drive to store all my videos that I work on for people, and I like to be able to either work on the laptop or my desktop. I hooked my hard drive to the desktop, and tried to open up files I have been working on my laptop, and it says. Files format is too new for this version of the application. Then I take a FCE video that I have been working on my desktop, and try to open it up on the laptop, and it says. File format of this project is from an earlier version. Would you like to update this project file. I say yes, and it says the files are offline. I don't know what to do to make these compatible. They are both FCE 4.0.1. The only difference is the new operating system. Thanks for your help.  ~Nancy

just upgrade snow Leopard, now FCP doesn't work - Help.....

before you do as studio x suggests, you might try deleting your fcp preferences (a lot quicker).

And you should always have a bootable clone of your startup drive BEFORE you do any upgrading of OS or Apps.

  • Clean install Leopard or Tiger for Final Cut 2 on my g5?

Hi, I currently have the previous final cut on my g5, on a Tiger operating system. I just got the new Final Cut 2, and I'm going to do a clean install of the OS to have everything running as smooth as possible. Will Leopard speed things up (or slow things down) for Final Cut 2, or should I just reinstall Tiger with Final Cut 2?
    Thanks

My biggest concern isn't rendering, it's overall playback performance in final cut pro.
Also, I'm curious as to how much slower motion 3 will be then motion 2 will be, and if motion 3 would run faster or the same in leopard and tiger. If I'm not mistaken I believe motion performance is quite dependent on the graphics card. I have an ATI 256 meg card that ran motion 2 acceptably in tiger, though I'm wondering how motion 3 in leopard will be in comparison (with the same video card and g5)
    Thanks

  • Will new snow lep work well with Final cut studio

Hi all, Yes I paid the upgrade and have the all new fc studio with fcp 7 etc and all is Ok. apart from compressor rubbish at hdv to sd dvd of course,
I have just got delivery of snow lep which is apparently mcuh faster etc, does it mess for final cut studio or is the upgrade install easy and works well?

  • Leopard Boot Drive -- Clean Final Cut Installation

Hi Editors (who are hinging on Leopard).
I'd like to put a drive in my 4th bay on the Mac Pro and do clean install of Leopard (then subsequently do a clean install of FCS2) on this drive.
The goal is to have this Leopard drive be a testing drive without compromising my existing setup (and not compromising any projects).
    Questions:
    1. Installing a clean Leopard on my 4th bay. Will this compromise anything on bay 1 (my current boot drive)
    2. Installing FCS2 on this 4th Bay Drive (with Leopard). Will this conflict with any resources on bay 1 (my current boot drive).
There was a Leopard (bay 4) installation at a demo at my user group meeting tonite, but I failed to ask the FCS2 question.
My thanks in advance to anyone who is testing this way.
    cheers

    1. Installing a clean Leopard on my 4th bay. Will this compromise anything on bay 1 (my current boot drive)
Nope...not at all. Completely separate drives.
    2. Installing FCS2 on this 4th Bay Drive (with Leopard). Will this conflict with any resources on bay 1 (my current boot drive)..
Nope, see above. The OS on one drive will not access system resources on another drive.
There was a Leopard (bay 4) installation at a demo at my user group meeting tonite, but I failed to ask the FCS2 question.
This is sketchy. Works for some, not for others. Personally I wouldn't do it and rely on it to make a living.

  • Is there any way to still upgrade from final cut 5 to final cut 7 using my original serial number?

    Hi there,
I had my macbook pro 15inch(2010 model) stolen a week ago. I was running on Snow Leopard, and I used Final Cut 5.
I am a bit out of touch with how much the technology and upgrades have changed (don't chastise me for it!), and have discovered that any new laptop I buy will come with the Mavericks operating system, which obviously won't allow my FCP5 to run.
I have also been told that I can't simply upgrade to a newer version of FCP, but that I would have to purchase the entire suite again, and that would mean purchasing FCPX, which I would prefer not to buy because of all the changes that it brought to the program.
First of all, is it standard procedure to have to purchase entire suites all over again once each new version is brought out? I was under the impression that once purchased, you could upgrade, seeing as you had made the commitment of spending the money in the first place. Apologies if this is a terribly daft question, but I would appreciate the assistance!
Secondly, if I don't want to upgrade to FCPX, does anyone know if there is a way to still upgrade to FCP7, either by purchasing it or updating it using my serial number details from FCP5? I bought it legitimately and I'm trying to find out if there is a way to avoid spending thousands all over again!
    Your help would be appreciated:)

It been a while, but I believe you just need the serial number of FC 5 for the FCS 3 installer. If I were you, I would verify that over at the Final Cut Studio forum before purchasing the update disks.
I just checked Amazon and there is a $600 difference in the update and full versions; they list (one) unopened upgrade boxed set at $795 while an unopened set of the full version currently is proced at $1295 (a $300 premium over the price Apple used to charge!).
Something you might want to ponder: the question of how much to invest in a suite of software that is no longer being supported by Apple. Even though I'm able to run FCP 7 and its related  apps largely without issues on Mavericks, who knows how long or well that will work in the future?
Also, if you're at all curious about whether the changes you mentioned in FCP X are value-added or not, you can always download the trial version and find out first hand. If you do, invest a little time with some of a few tutoirals offered by by a variety of highly regarded FCP X intructors. You might be pleasantly surprised.
    Good luck.

  • Trying to find the app preference for Final Cut Pro 7

Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks
    running Final Cut ver7.03
Black Magic Design Intensity Pro card in PCIe
    26 gigs RAM
Normally if I had an issue in Snow Leopard, I could TRASH the FCPplist and re instate my preferences from the start.
Im having some home made issues due to poor file keeping, changed a few project files destinations and the like and now wanted to trash the
FINAL CUT PREF plist file but its NOT in the Preference file.  WHat did Mavericks do with the preference files???  I noticed that Mavericks did away with
the usual System Library and User Library now only having ONE Library folder with preferences.  I searched ProApps and did not find a FCPplist only a
RegFinalCut Plist  is this the one I want????
    ANy help appreciated!!
SHould I go back and buy Mountain Lion and revert my entire system back???
    HELP!
    Lou

Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free):
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
and it will do it all for you. Your FCP preference will be restored to default the next time you launch FCP.

  • Does LiveType work with Snow Leopard?

I recently updated to Snow Leopard and the latest Final Cut Studio. When I went to open LiveType, I got the following message:
    LiveType quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
Does LiveType work with Snow Leopard? Do I trash my preferences or reinstall the program from my original version of Final Cut Studio?
    Any ideas?

Am I the only one who feels like that is ridiculous? Apple provides the possibility to upgrade to the new Final Cut Studio from the original version of Final Cut Studio, but in so doing, disables a program that was working fine before the upgrade, and doesn't provide any avenue to fix the problem? Is that really the way things work in the world of Apple computing? Does that compute?
I hope that this is not right...
For some reason this reminds me of Thoreau...
    "Simplify, simplify."
This seems to be the antithesis of "Think Different" doesn't it?
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
But in Apple's world, if you missed update number two then that's all you're going to get is an empty canvas, because the program used to put print on your canvas is no longer available. And if you go looking for another option, like for instance if you take their slogan literally:
    They’re not fond of rules.
Then what is Apple going to do about it? I think if you read the news it's pretty obvious what Apple's going to do about it.
Is it any wonder that they dismissed their slogan, because it did not fit in with their business plan.
    Any comments?

  • Final Cut Studio license invalid after upgrading to Leopard?

    Hello,
After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1, Final Cut Studio v5.1.4 and its companion apps like DVD Studio 4 do not recognize my FC Studio License as valid. I input the license key and it says:
    "Licensing Error
This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I am a licensed user via the FC Studio Crossgrade since 2006 and all has been fine with Tiger before Leopard.
I have used Disk Utility to "repair permissions". I have removed the FC files from the Preferences folder to give it a clean start.
    PERHAPS A HINT?:
So I tried to re-install FC Studio 5.1 from the FC Install DVD and I get this message after inputting the key:
    "Alert
Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I have Administrator privileges on this account and I even tried to install it as 'root' and the same error occurs.
Is there a file that I need to change permissions on?
THANKS for any help here! And happy holidays.
    Bonafide

    Hi,
Unfortunately there is also an issue with installing FCS2 on a brand new installation with Leopard and this licensing error.
"Alert Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
This also occurs, apparently, that if you are logged in with an Active Directory user with Admin privileges it still will not let you install the product keys.
This is much the same as a problem with Adobe CS3 products, only the updates work when you are logged in with a local admin - not an Active Directory Admin.
Both these problems are really really annoying for those on corporate networks - such as myself.
For my problem, I had to log out as my AD account, login as a local admin and then install the software. .

  • How to share a Rendezvous printer with Snow Leopard

I have an old iBook running Panther and a new MacBook running Snow Leopard. I was finally able to share my old LaserWriter to the MacBook via my hubby's laptop running Tiger. Any way to get Snow Leopard to see the Shared Printer via Panther and Rendezvous. I using the line command in the support article below, and it saw the printer...seems to be connecting, but the job never prints. It even says: Print file accepted - job ID 946. But nothing prints. Any advice?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2275

Nevermind...nevermind. It did work. I think the job just had to sit in the queue for a minute. I wasn't waiting long enough. Finally!
To anyone else attempting this...using that line command in Terminal will do the trick!

  • Final Cut 3rd party plug ins

I downloaded some plug in filters for FCP but I cannot find the plugin folder I was told it is, Library, Aplplication support, final cut pro system support, plug ins but there is no final cut pro system support folder. Where do I put these? What do I do? I am running Leopard and the newest final cut. Thanks

There are actually 4 or 5 locations it could be in, including the application bundle itself but the most likely location is /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support.
Glad to know that you found it though.

  • Snow Leopard with FCP7 & Adobe Creative SuiteCS4

Let me join the party with the concerns about Snow Leopard Logouts! I Finally got around to installing Snow Leopard on my MBPro. Have had a problem with crashing programs ever since. Random bailouts when using FCP7 and the Adobe CS4... and other native programs. Crash report comes on the screen. I'll bet they are sick of seeing these at Apple tech! What is going on?

    concerns about Snow Leopard Logouts!
    Note this from Apple today...
"The 10.6.2 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes for:
    • an issue that might cause your system to logout unexpectedly"
    ...etc...

  • Clean install Snow Leopard

I have a 2006 24'' iMac. It now has serious graphic issues and is not usable at all. I understand this is a known issue witht this model and that it has something to do with overheating and CPU/videocard malfunction. I have tried different OSX versions, but there are problems with all of them.
I do not use this iMac anymore, and i am selling it to guy as a "defect computer" (he is fully aware of that the iMac is non functional).
The iMac has now Lion installed on it. The one I am selling it to, has asked me to install Snow Leopard from a retail DVD I have used on this iMac earlier before shipping the machine.
I have done clean installation of different OSX versions many times before, and this is not a problem.
BUT: How can I do this installation of Snow Leopard without doing the final setup of the OS. I would like that when my buyer start up the iMac, he gets the "Welcome" screen where he sets up an admin account on the computer.
Remember I have to be able to eject the SL DVD for shipping the iMac.

What the buyer is instructing you to do is incorrect and violates Apple's license.
To correctly sell or transfer ownership of a Mac, even to someone in your family, you should follow these instructions.
Disregard anything you are unable to accomplish. For example, Step 6 does not apply because your Mac shipped with discs. The buyer will need those discs. If you no longer have them, replacements can be obtained from Apple for a nominal fee.
Refer to What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
If you enabled FileVault, disable it in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
"Deauthorize" your iTunes account. Same for Audible if you have one.
System Preferences > iCloud > de-select "Back to My Mac" and "Find my Mac".
Sign out of iCloud. Select "Delete from Mac" when it appears.
Next: Remove all your personal information by completely erasing the Mac's internal storage.
If your Mac shipped with a grey System Install DVD, start your Mac with that disc inserted in the optical drive while holding the c key to boot from it instead of its internal volume, which should be erased before selling it.
If your Mac did not ship with discs, boot OS X Internet Recovery:
using three fingers press and hold the following keys: ⌘(command), option, and R.
With a fourth finger press the power button to turn on the Mac.
Keep the other three fingers where they are until you see the "spinning globe" icon.
This method forces the Mac to download its originally installed OS from Apple's servers, which will not require an Apple ID to install.
Remove any Open Firmware password if you created one: select Firmware Password Utility from the Utilities menu and remove it.
Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Remove any partitions you may have created.
Select the Mac's hard disk icon, then select the "Erase" tab.
Select the "Security Options" button and erase the disk.
The more "securely" you erase the disk, the longer it will take.
The fastest method is sufficient since all but the most expensive techniques and equipment will be able to recover securely erased data.
When it finishes, quit Disk Utility.
Select Install Mac OS X from the Utilities menu.
An Apple ID will not be required. If a prompt for an Apple ID appears, return to Step 5.
Do not create any user accounts.
When it finishes, shut down the computer.
If you want to install the bundled apps that were included with your Mac, restart by using your Applications DVD if one was included, and install the bundled apps. Apps bundled with newer Macs that shipped without discs cannot be transferred. Its new owner must purchase them from the Mac App Store using his or her own Apple ID.
If the Mac is being sold to someone outside the family consider the following additional information:
System Install DVDs that came with your Mac should remain with it forever, and must be included with the sale.
Consider including your AppleCare certificate if you bought it, printed documentation, even the box if you still have it. AppleCare stays with the equipment and is transferable.
Execute a bill of sale showing the Mac's serial number.
Once no longer in your possession, remove the Mac from your devices in My Support Profile.
