Snow Leopard + Adobe CS4 +Freezes

I'm a Graphic Designer and use Adobe CS4 apps. While using Illustrator on my iMac (2006), the app freezes after about ten minutes. I'm thinking I should just UNINSTALL Snow Leopard since it worked fine before. I've updated everything since this problem began with no results.
If I uninstall will Tiger remain?
iMac4,1 Mac OS X (10.6.4) 1.83 GHz 1GB

No. The only way to uninstall is recover your backup, or use one of these options:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1308817&tstart=10
Before jumping down that bandwagon, remember CS4 requires a lot of RAM, and 1 GB is the minimum for Snow Leopard. You can try to make sure everything is running for 32bit:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2176255&tstart=0
And upgrading the RAM to the max your machine allows*:

It might work, then again might not. As you can see CS4's record with Snow Leopard is not that great:

Best to be prepared before making such a big leap.

  • Disaster!!!  Snow Leopard crashes CS4, mail, etc....

    Hi!
I am hoping I can get some answers and solutions as to why snow leopard is crashing my programs. CS4 and Mail. That's what I know of so far as I use them the most.
As soon as I go to try to save an image in CS4 it crashes. Every time! And when I try to attach an image (jpg) in Mail it crashes.
I am a photographer so working in CS4 is a daily thing for me. So, I had to wipe my HD and reinstall 10.5.
Are there any solutions out yet that can stop snow leopard from crashing my programs!?
UGH!! Snow leopard is so disappointing and I wish I never spent the money on it so far...

I am rather disappointed that I updated to Snow Leopard as quickly as I did. I'm not a techie so my terminology may be off, but I just find SL to be unstable. Some of the issues I have:
    - I have a Western Digital 2 TB drive to be my designated storage device for Time Machine, but, with the green disk icon, Time Machine indicates a different Western Digital be the storage unit.
    - My mail crashes everytime I try and print an email that has an attachment.
    - My mail crashes every time I try and save an email with an attachment as a PDF.
    - My line out speakers are put on mute every time I restart my computer.
    - My wireless connection is dropped either during the course of being on line or when I restart my computer (I use a Cisco box for wireless and none of the other 4 computers using Leopard on this network loose their connections. I have to shut down the Cisco and restart it to get my connection back on the SL computer.)
    - I was completely logged off of .Mac and lost my primary mail inbox as a result of this.
    - My dock settings randomly changed.
    - My Adobe Bridge Crashes upon starting it.
It's like little quirks. Nothing terribly major but little gremlins that make the initial SL experience highly frustrating.

  • Snow Leopard & Photoshop CS4: Scratch Disk Error (app won't open)

Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS4 have at least one incompatibility worth noting thus far. If you have a secondary disc on your system that is setup to be your primary scratch disk in Photoshop's Preferences you might be unable to open your application.
In order to fix that, go to Macintosh HD/Users/YOUR_ACCOUNT/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings/ and remove the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file
    Then Photoshop will open.
NOTE: You must leave your Macintosh HD as your primary scratch disk in Photoshop's preferences until Adobe fixes this issue.

    HI Chris,
We are having significant problems with CS4 crashng and not saving work after it has been completed and saved onto our server. I would rather not re-format my machine. Any ideas?

  • I pre-ordered Snow Leopard - and CS4 ?

Amazon is taking pre-orders for the September release of Mac OS 10.6 - Snow Leopard.  Mine is now on order.
And - my question is - will Photoshop CS4 (and related Creative Suite programs) work on 10.6 ?????
I will make the swap on my least-used computer to do the test.
Anyone have insight into the Adobe-Mac testing to se if it will work?  PS CS5 has not been announced so far - so it looks like there will be a CS4/10.6 period of overlap.
    Dick

Well Adobe can't publicly state they test what isn't generally available. So its safe to say that no official tests will be announced or discussed at least until 10.6 hits the streets.
In most cases though the Adobe products work fine with general OS releases. For instance. CS2 works on anything newer than OS10.3.9. Granted there are a few issues with OS10.5, but it still works.
I wouldn't anticipate any major issues with CS4 and OS10.6. However, I DO anticipate issues with OS10.6 Apple doesn't get to a solid release until x.0.3 or x.0.4 -- after they've used the general public as beta testers.
For my money.... I NEVER purchase the first release of an OS. I always wait until there are 3 or 4 updates to it.

  • Snow Leopard & Photoshop CS4...

    Hi:
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.1 with Photoshop CS4 on a Mac Pro Dual 2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon. The video card I have is this:
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x9588
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-B1480A-252
    EFI Driver Version: 01.00.252
My problem is this, if I enable 'Open GL' in Photoshop preferences, Photoshop will crash. If I disable 'Open GL' in Photoshop it will not crash. My understanding is that Open GL isn't properly supported by the video card. I am a little surprised as this Mac isn't that old and I thought Snow Leopard might install proper drivers for this.
Any ideas on what I might try to solve this problem?
    Thank you, Glenn

  • Does Snow Leopard support CS4?

A friend of mine just bought a new Macbook Pro and tried to install her CS4 (adobe creative suites 4) software and was unable to. She said that Snow Leopard didn't support CS4 ... is this true?

I have it on iMacs and MacPros all running 10.6 ... A few crashing problems but that happens when photographers try to open 100+ jepgs in Photoshop !!! (Sometimes)

  • Fonts shifting in Snow Leopard Flash CS4

We have noticed Fonts shift down in our layouts. Our files are very messed up. One particular font that is doing this is TheMix. Anyone else have this happening? Any fixes out there? The same file opens and displays just fine under Leopard.

I just want to add that we have the same problem. Fonts seems to gain some additional line spacing for no reason.
They render just fine under 10.5, but when you open the very same file in Snow Leopard, most of text if shifted down.
The font in question is TVNord family.
Adobe, please fix it as soon as humanly possible!
Looks like a huge problem with how fonts rendering is handled in Snow Leopard.

  • Snow Leopard & Adobe

The SL upgrade is not doing a whole lot for my faith one way or another.
    I have a iMac 2.8Ghz and a MBP.
I installed SL on the MBP 1st as I had a big issue with sleeping/waking and there were rumours SL would fix the problem (it doesn't).
However all my apps worked fine except Dreamweaver MX 2004 and associated flash, shockwave. Searching around it seems the general consensus was tough - go buy new software. I'm an amateur not a professional and laying out that type of cash is not on. I'll find another program.
Two weeks ago I started the process to change my iMac over to SL - not easy Time Machine did not exactly cover itself in glory although the major culprit was an intermittently sick and now replaced iomega drive. However I got there and everything worked.... INCLUDING the Dreamweaver!!!!
But today for no reason I can fathom (it is the time honoured I never touched and now it's broke) None of the previously working Adobe CS2 apps run. I'm completely at a loss. Dreamweaver still works but not on the MBP and CS2 works on the MBP but not the iMac. Does anyone have any thoughts? A very very unhappy former Mac Zealot.

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure your 3rd party apps are Snow Leopard compatible and know the rumors are that 10.6.2 will be play better w/fonts in some cases.

  • Font issues with Snow Leopard, Adobe and more

Since purchasing my new 27" iMac with Snow Leopard and instlaling Adobe Creative Suites 4, I have had numerous font issues. Apple has created huge problems for designers and printers that must use postscript type 1 fonts for helvetica and helvetica neue. Read more about this issue and some creative solutions (workarounds) go to http://www.linkedin.com/groupAnswers?viewQuestionAndAnswers&discussionID=1090421 4&gid=75556&commentID=9732351&trk=view_disc

Such font issues have also been discussed at some length in these forums, you can find it all by searching, e.g.

  • Snow Leopard and CS4 are NOT Compatible!

I waited a year to upgrade from 10.5 (always the latest version) and I'm so sorry I did it. InDesign takes 10-20 minutes to launch and open one file. My font manager stopped working (Font Agent Pro; latest version) and Photoshop frequently gets caught in an error loop when I launch and open a file and I have to trash my prefs and reboot to make it stop. I've researched online and there is no improvement to be gained by getting CS5. My productivity is grinding to a halt and I wish I'd never upgraded. Thank Goodness I left 10.5.8 on my laptop, but it's a shame not to be able to work on my tower with the big monitor. When is Apple going to fix this?

Nothing to fix. The CS4 and CS5 apps both work just fine for me under Snow Leopard on an early 2008 Mac Pro.
Did you install 10.6 over 10.5? If you did, the system was likely already damaged. It's common for a major upgrade to cause those errors to come forward.
Back up what you need to and do an erase and install of Snow Leopard. Apply all updates and reinstall your applications. A lot of work, I know, but that should do it.

  • Snow Leopard running slow, freezing, not responding.

I am running Snow Leopard on Mac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 GB SDRAM.
Over the last few days the machine has gradually become slower and slower, the spinning wheel frequently appears and programs are not responding and the system freezes.
When I restart, on a couple of occasions a white screen with grey pixel blocks has flashed up during start up, other times it has frozen on the blue screen.
I have tried running Disk Warrior, Disk Utility, ClamXav, Onyx and disconnected all hardware, then finally I have reinstalled Snow Leopard but still seem to be having the same problems.
By the way, I am also running VMware Fusion, don't know if this is relevant.
    Any suggestion, please?

I would try running the extended version of your Apple Hardware Test.
It's not perfect but may flag something.

HP is clearly the one's at fault here as they supply the pdftopdf process that got so out of hand. Some more information here for anyone that finds this thread:

  • Will upgrading from Snow Leopard "break" CS4 or Lightwave 10, etc. on my Macbook Pro?

I'm still relativlly unfamiliar with Macs and had a fairly simple question: If I upgrade from OSX 10.6.8 (MacBookPro5,2) to Mountain Lion, will any of my already installed programs (Adobe CS4 programs, Lightwave 10, Corel Painter 11, etc.) be affected or have issues with the newer OS? Should I be asking the individual software makers or perhaps a different Apple forum?
    Thanks,
    J Gilchrist

  • Snow Leopard on Xserve freezes

Snow Leopard occassionally hangs and forces us to turn the system off to regain control. We reviewed the console logs and system logs and find lots of messages but none that seem to point to a reason why we get the spinning wheel of death. We have run the SMART Utility and it indicates that there are no errors on our disk. We only have 1 server and it is used only for processing podcasts. Is there some utility that can show us what is running when the system hangs?

We have the same issue. The XServe is a 2.26GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 12GB of RAM. We upgraded to 10.6.5 and it happens less frequently, but still happens, maybe once every couple of weeks. The behavior is that services still appear to be enabled -- e.g. I can begin to connect to an AFP share, and ssh connects just long enough to say "connection closed" -- but at the console, it's a beach ball and extreme slowness until it just stops responding altogether, and the only solution is a power-cycle. Can't find any clues in the logs.
I've done Disk Utility ad nauseam, and Apple Hardware Test with no problems. Am planning to try the 10.6.5 combo update in safe mode, with permissions repair before and after, but need to wait for downtime since this is our flagship print/RADIUS/OD server.

  • Adobe cs4 freezes when trying to open Bridge Home

    hi,
i am using adobe bridge cs4 in mac os x 10.5
when i try to open Bridge Home, it freezes. Any other thing works fine in Bridge.
    thanks in advance.

Actually, I missed one of the suggestions and that has fixed it.
I did have Opera installed and trashed it as per Ramón's suggestion - this didn't fix the problem - with no separate Opera install, Bridge still froze.
What finally fixed it was installing a new, independent copy of Opera version 9.63
I launched Opera once before trying Bridge again - this may or may not be a necessary step.
