Snow Leopard and Aperture 2.1

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and quickly learned that it would not support my Aperture 2.1. What can I do?
Thanks

  • Will the Genius Bar install Snow Leopard and Aperture 3 for me...?

I have an iMac 20" Core 2 Duo with Leopard. RAM is maxed at 3GB. All my data is backed up on a external HDD using Time Machine.
I need upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to get Aperture 3 (which I need in order to read RAW photos from my new camera).
Anyway, ever since I upgraded to Leopard I haven't been thrilled with my iMac's performance (I did the quick upgrade instead of the complete rebuild). So I want to wipe it clean this time and start over with a fresh install of Snow Leopard. The iMac is 3 years old now, so I think it's time for a fresh start.
I'm not comfortable doing this myself. Will the Genius Bar do this for me? I'm happy to buy the Snow Leopard and Aperture upgrades. But will the Genius Bar charge me? Or will they do it for free since I paid them already for the software?
    Thanks for your help!

I do not know if they would do that or not; I believe there is a maximum time limit for a Genius Bar appointment and these kinds of installs may take longer than that. And, it is truly easy to do; your performance problems may not have had anything to do with the OS, but possibly some incompatible third party software or some other corruption. So, I'm not trying to change your mind, but if you want to try it yourself, there are a lot of people here who'd be able to walk you through it.
Now, another idea: did you know that iPhoto supports RAW formats? You can find many help articles like this one by going to Apple support and typing iPhoto RAW into the search field:

  • Snow Leopard and Aperture Nightmare

I am having major problems with Aperture 2.1.4 since upgrading to Snow Leopard. Everything is Much Much Slower, The Spinning Beachball appears regularly and at least twice a day I have to Force Quit the Application.
Other Applications are having slowdown and beachball issues as well but Aperture is my main work space and I am getting extremely frustrated when it takes me ridiculously long to do any simple task, even cropping. I have an Imac 3.06 with 4gb Ram with 80,000 Images but surely this should be well capable of operating perfectly. Any solutions?

If you are having problems with ALL programs, then your problem most likely is not related to Aperture specifically, but rather a hardware interface or OS installation problem. Your computer specs are more than adequate to run Aperture. Have you tried a clean install of Snow Leopard? To be clear, I am not suggesting this is a fix as I have made a clean install of SL, Aperture, new Library with fresh images, all updates, etc.. no peripherals installed, no 3rd party drivers/software...and still had beach balls, slow performance during adjustments and impossible use of Full Screen editing without visual corruption of screen images in Aperture. The remaining programs on my iMac, however, appear to run well.
If you haven't tried this already, open font book and make sure there are no conflicts. If you are running 10.6.2, this should have been fixed in the update. If not, you may have installed something after the update with new fonts and therefore, conflicts.
Make sure you have reset your PRAM by hold CommandOption+PR when starting your mac. Hold these 4 keys down together until your mac chimes 3 times.
You can try a boot into safe mode by holding down the S key when booting your mac.
You can try rebooting your mac by holding down your power button until you hear a long beep.
You can use a third party utility like Onyx or Cocktail or SLCC and flush caches (all of them), rebuild spotlight and rebuild dyld stuff.
You can make sure every printer driver, mouse driver, tablet (if you have one) and scanner drivers are up to date and Snow Leopard compatible. This is important.
You can run Console to see what error messages crop up during the beach ball spinning and send feedback to Apple.
For Aperture specific stuff you can hold the Option and Command keys down while opening Aperture and perform a consistency check or data rebuild.
You can move the com.apple.aperture.plist file from the Library/Preferences folder to your desktop and restart Aperture to see if this helps. (make sure to check your preferences in Aperture regarding previews as the new plist file will turn previews "on")
Highlight each of your projects and go to the gear icon in the top of the sidebar window and see if "maintain previews for project" is checked or not.
While using Aperture, as a troubleshooting measure, select the Activity window to be active from the Window column in the menu bar and see if anything is running in the background while using Aperture.
I'm sure more people will chime in....good luck and join the disgruntled crowd.

  • I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3.  Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialog box so large I can't get to the eject card button.   I have to force quit Aperture.  How do I fix?

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I have Aperture 3.1.3.  Now after I import pics from my camera I get a dialogue box so large that I can't see the eject card button.  Consequently, I can't get rid of the dialogue box without having to do a force quit on Aperture.  How do I fix?

I can drag the dialog box, but I can't move it up far enough to get to the eject card button.  The dialogue box contains all the jpeg Numbers I am trying to upload.  It has never done that before.  It used to be just a smal dialogue box with no jpeg numbers in it.
It is even difficult to get to the Finder with the Dialague box is open.  I have to force quit aperture.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Installed Aperture with new Snow Leopard and it won't open

I just got Aperture 2.0 and it installed fine but when I tried to open the application, its says it does not work with this version of Leopard. Is there a fix for this?

So essentially, you'd have to purchase the 2.14 update from the mac store?
No. He's saying he used the serial number that came with 2.x when he bought it, and it will work with the 2.14 download.
There seems to be a catch 22: Aperture 2.1 won't work with Snow Leopard, and the 2.14 update won't work because it can't find 2.1. The work around Daniel found is to download the 2.14 trial then authorize it with the 2.1 serial number.
See if it works for you ,and let us know.

  • Can I install both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 on the same version of VMWare 5?

Even though I am running Apple OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on my new 2013 iMac, I have just installed VMWare's "Fusion 5" so I can have Windows 7 installed on the "Fusion 5, for limited usage needs.
I also would like to have a running version of Snow Leopard available to run my large collection of original Lynda.com training DVD's and CD's ... which unfortunately, now only allow the Lynda.com GUI player to operate in (and up to) Snow Leopard (at least this is what the Tech folks at Lynda.com have told me).
Since Lynda.com is no longer producing any or their training programs on CD or DVD any longer, and because they have stopped supporting their training programs to run on Lion and above, I will have to have a version of Snow Leopard installed to run these training programs, and still be able to run them using the Lynda.com GUI player.
    So here's my dilemma:
    1.  Can I install both a version of Snow Leopard OS on my "VMWare "Fusion 5" .... along with a running version of Windows 7 on       the same "Fusion 5"?
    2.  Do I install only the Windows 7 on the VMWare, and find some other "device" to run a version of Snow Leopard off of?
    3.  Do I consider using "BootCamp", in conjunction with "Fusion 5", to get access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7?
Has anyone had any experience installing BOTH a previous (older) version of Apple OSX  ... AND ... a Windows OS version on one installed version of VMWare "Fusion"?
    OR
Any suggestions on how to set up having access to both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 .... while keeping OS Mountain Lion as my main OS?

Thanks ... the "You have to purchase Snow Leopard Server" I knew about, and a few days ago I just ordered a copy from the Apple Store:
    Snow Leopard Server - Ordered at: 1-800-692-7753 ... OR ... 1-866-254-8313
I asked for Apple Snow Leopard Server (Model MC588Z/A (SLSVR)
    "Unlimited Client License"
It was around $25.50 (USD) with sales tax and shipping (NYS).
One thing though ... when you mention:  "you should make two virtual machines".
Not being too familiar with "Fusion 5" yet, Is setting up "two machine" all done under one installed version of "Fusion 5"?
Would you have "links" to any "Fusion 5" installation instructions/info for setting up the
"two machines" (one for Snow Leopard and one for Windows 7)?

  • I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion and found out it was not compatible with my HP printer (HP photosmart C5580) so I called Apple and asked how to get Mountain Lion off and Snow Leopard back on.  The Tech told me to

I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then I found out it was not compatible with my HP Printer (HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one) so I called Apple support and the tech told me to erase the hard drive instead of going in the time machine.  Well I did that and then it took about three hours three days a week for about three weeks on the phone with an apple tech to get all my stuff back on my computer.  I have had trouble with my printer (won't do the scan anymore and wasn't printing on my DVDs.  Also the computer keeps freezing up when it is in the sleep mode, etc.
When I tried to list my problem on this forum it lists your OS at the bottom and mine had Mountain Lion listed as what I was using so apparently it didn't erase it.  Want to know how to get Mountain Lion off and put my Snow Leopard on so things start working right.

Go to the  menu/About This Mac - what OS version shows there?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Am using Macbook pro mid 2010 running on OSX 10.9.5. It does not read my old Seagate back up plus ITB ext hard disk which opens and works on snow leopard. The back ups were made on snow leopard and mountain lion. How do I make it work on Mavericks?

I have been making back ups on a Seagate Back up plus drive on a macbook pro running on Mountain lion. Sadly the mac was stolen and all I had was the seagate back up. I tried opening it on my old iMac running on snow leopard and after several visits to this forum managed to open it. The data was safe and sound. Now I have received a hand me down macbook pro which runs on osx 10.9.5. I'm assuming there is a compatability issue as the drive does not come on at all when I hook it up to the usb port. I checked the seagate drive once again on the imac and its light came on on that system. Then I suspected there may be a problem with this macbook pro usb port. But it seemed to work fine when i hooked my camera cord into it. Is it that I must reinstall mavericks. In which case how do I back up before reformatting or reinstalling. BTW I did the command+ R thingy and repaired my internal Hard disc which was showing errors. What do I do next, your help is most appreciated if you have had a similar problem.

Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was.

I am running Mac OSx Lion 10.7.2.
My issue is that I am not able to run a search in the finder toolabar on a network server. No files show up nor does it search on the server anymore. I was able to run the search in snow-leopard and am no longer able to do so with Lion. Is there a preference I can change or some kind of app or program I can download that will help me with this issue? This is extremely problematic for me as I am searching for files all day everyday. Thank you!

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade. So many people had the same problems including me.
