Snow Leopard and CS4 are NOT Compatible!

I waited a year to upgrade from 10.5 (always the latest version) and I'm so sorry I did it. InDesign takes 10-20 minutes to launch and open one file. My font manager stopped working (Font Agent Pro; latest version) and Photoshop frequently gets caught in an error loop when I launch and open a file and I have to trash my prefs and reboot to make it stop. I've researched online and there is no improvement to be gained by getting CS5. My productivity is grinding to a halt and I wish I'd never upgraded. Thank Goodness I left 10.5.8 on my laptop, but it's a shame not to be able to work on my tower with the big monitor. When is Apple going to fix this?

Nothing to fix. The CS4 and CS5 apps both work just fine for me under Snow Leopard on an early 2008 Mac Pro.
Did you install 10.6 over 10.5? If you did, the system was likely already damaged. It's common for a major upgrade to cause those errors to come forward.
Back up what you need to and do an erase and install of Snow Leopard. Apply all updates and reinstall your applications. A lot of work, I know, but that should do it.

hello, I want to know if will lose my apps if I upgrade to Mavericks? I I have Snow Leopard, and I have not because I have fear of losing my apps

You will only lose Power PC apps.
To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mavericks.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • The new firefox 33.1 and 34 are not compatible with my school Blackboard account

I have used Firefox since it was first introduced. I prefer it to MS Explorer. However the new Firefox, 33.1 and 34 are not compatible with my school Blackboard account, so I had to delete Firefox and use Explorer. I would prefer to use Firefox. Is an earlier version (Prior to 33.1) still available?

It's been a few years since we have had many questions about Blackboard compatibility with Firefox, but overall the problems in that past had to do with either Blackboard not updating in a timely manner ''[which I don't think is the case any longer]'' OR the school wasn't running the latest version of Blackboard software ''[which considering the current state of many government budgets, may be the case now.]''.
''It appears that - http://www.blackboard.com/ - is a new or greatly modified website, as the bookmarks I have saved for reference pages on their website come as 404, so I can't find the information I have used in the past.''
My advice is to install Firefox Portable ESR to your hard drive for use at that Blackboard website and continue to use Firefox 34 for other purposes. The "portable" version will instal and use a Profile that is totally separate from your regular Firefox installation - so you can have two separate Firefox versions installed without any problems.

  • Warning: Action and Event are not compatible for LinktoAction type

    Hi,
I get a warning message "Action and event are not compatible" for the action associated with the type LinkToAction. The Action method "ShowDetails" has the parameters wdEvent (default) and IWDNodeElement.
Can anybody please suggest what causes this warning?
    Regards
    Sagar

    Sagar,
Unfortunately, it is impossible to remove this warning completely. However, you may safely ignore it.
What you can do is copy text of warning (or part of text), then click "Filter" icon on Tasks view in IDE and set filter to hide these warnings. I do this for annoying "UI element has no lable text"

  • Leopard TM backups are NOT compatible with Snow Leopard

I just discovered while upgrading to Snow Leopard that Time Machine backups made in Leopard are not compatible with Snow Leopard at this time. So, for those of you who are considering upgrading to Snow Leopard using your TM backups to restore your data, the TM backup will not be recognised by Snow Leopard.
I called Apple Care to check this when I went to restore my data as I had done an Erase and Install, and they confirmed that I would have to either:
    a) use the data on my TM drive as any other data only backup, or
    b) re-inslall Leopard, restore the TM backup, then upgrade to Snow Leopard rather than erase and install.
    For info

    Scott in MD wrote:
Incidentally, yes, the "package" file is the in.Progress file. It seems to have the incremental updates, since it's a real big file, and has very recent entries. Again the last set of timestamped folders (i.e. a full backup) was over a year ago.
No, something's very wrong. All (completed) TM backups are the same.
Inside the Backups.backupdb folder should be a single folder with your computer name; inside that should be a series of folders with the date & time of each remaining backup, plus the Latest folder which is an alias to the most recent of the date & time folders, except an "in.Progress" folder.
The "in.Progress" folder is an incomplete (failed or cancelled) backup, and is ignored in all TM displays, since it's unusable.
In any event I have not deleted or changed any of the files. Also the stuff in the "Latest" folder is over a year old. But I've had TM running the whole time.
So does that mean (I'm hoping) that my recent stuff will be recovered from the inProgress file if I can ever get this working? Or does it mean I'm screwed anyways, because the best I can get is the files from the Latest or most recent timestamped folder (again, both a year back).
First, run +*Repair Disk+* again (and again) until it either fixes all the errors or can't fix any more. If it can't fix any more, it's barely possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party app such as +DiskWarrior 4.2+ can (it's about $100).
Let's see if DU can fix it on a second pass. Hopefully it will, and the problem was preventing the more recent backups from appearing.

  • I have downloaded snow leopard and it is not recognising that i have, i need to in order to update to mavericks, I have downloaded snow leopard and it is not recognising that i have, i need to in order to update to mavericks

Basically, I bought snow leopard and just installed it but its not recognising the fact that I've installed it. I've tried twice and it has restarted both times, but it hasn't done anything, and I need that to update to Mavericks, which I really need to do. Please help!

    Then you've installed Snow Leopard.
It needs to be 10.6.8 so download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then try installing Mavericks.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    A. Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • I pre-ordered Snow Leopard - and CS4 ?

Amazon is taking pre-orders for the September release of Mac OS 10.6 - Snow Leopard.  Mine is now on order.
And - my question is - will Photoshop CS4 (and related Creative Suite programs) work on 10.6 ?????
I will make the swap on my least-used computer to do the test.
Anyone have insight into the Adobe-Mac testing to se if it will work?  PS CS5 has not been announced so far - so it looks like there will be a CS4/10.6 period of overlap.
    Dick

Well Adobe can't publicly state they test what isn't generally available. So its safe to say that no official tests will be announced or discussed at least until 10.6 hits the streets.
In most cases though the Adobe products work fine with general OS releases. For instance. CS2 works on anything newer than OS10.3.9. Granted there are a few issues with OS10.5, but it still works.
I wouldn't anticipate any major issues with CS4 and OS10.6. However, I DO anticipate issues with OS10.6 Apple doesn't get to a solid release until x.0.3 or x.0.4 -- after they've used the general public as beta testers.
For my money.... I NEVER purchase the first release of an OS. I always wait until there are 3 or 4 updates to it.

  • I have snow leopard and I am not sure how to upgrade

Can someone tell me what I need to do to upgrade my software from snow leopard to lion or mountain lion.  I know I need more memory but I have no idea how to install that.

No, the model 4,1 Early 2008 MacBook will not be able to run Mountain Lion, but it can run 10.7 Lion. Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.
It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

      http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57387846-263/will-your-mac-run-mountain-lio n/
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. • MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.8   I reloaded Snow Leopard and now can not find iPhoto.  Can I retrieve the pictures from the system?

ProtectMac AV alerted to a trojan and was unable to remove it.  The Geeks at Best Buy could not sort it and recommended reinstalling the OS so I off-loaded the files and 1200 pics from Europe to a flash drive.  I reinstalled Snow Leopard, iWork, and upgraded from Office: Mac 08 to Office: Mac 2011.
Once the system was proved up the files were reloaded but the flash drive failed before the pictures could be reloaded.  Is there a way to recover the pictures that were in iPhoto which is not here even with a search.  All I can find is:
    iLifeShared              Oct 23, 2010  5:16 PM              --      Folder
    Info.plist                   Oct 23, 2010  5:16 PM           4 kb    XML P...rty List

    Library.iPhoto                    same                             same
    Library6.iPhoto                  same                             same
I could get into the registry on a widows machine safely but know nothing about a Mac.  I read up a bit on the Terminal and Commands but prefer to not be trolling around with the unknown.  Any idea where iPhoto went and why?  Thanks!  /joe

When you backed up to the flash drive did you copy the iPhoto Library that was in the Pictures folder?  If you had copied it intact and then back you would have your library back.
You can try using   MediaRECOVER or SubrosaSoft FileSalvage to try to recover what's on the flash drive.  Both will let you run it in demo mode to see if you can recover the photos before you have to purchase.

I have a mac mini 10.5.8  It is a little old and will not support the new iphone 5 for syncing etc.
Do I need to purchase new software i.e. snow leopard or can I download something that will allow me to get the new itunes etc????

    Hi, Notso Techie.
Syncing your iPhone 5 with iTunes will require Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later.  You should be able to purchase Mac OS X 10.6 via the link below.

  • Safari 7 and Wordpress are not compatible

This is a horrible upgrade. There's so many problems with this browser now that I'd like to go back to version 6.
I used to be able to navigate through Wordpress screens to "Add Post or Portfolios" but now these pages don't load anymore so I can't add anything.
I had to go back to another browser to get it to work. And, all works fine in Firefox, for example.

  • My new Canon MarkIII and CS2 are not compatible...

Hi - I wish I could go into a camera shop or an Apple shop to get this sorted. But there are none where I live so I hope someone can help me. I have a legal version of CS2 and use a G5 mac. I'm a professional photographer and I want only to open my RAW pix in PS without converting via Digital Photo Professional or anything else. I never have my G5 hooked up to the internet and therefore have not imported latest versions of anything. I have tried an illegal CS3 and that cannot open my RAW files either so I am loathe to buy a legal version if it does not solve my problem. While I know both my camera and CS2 back to front I am not a computer geek. I have had a look through the forums but cannot find any answers. Chao and thanks. H

Adobe doesn't offer "forever" support for new cameras, except for offering an ongoing update for their DNG converter. So, to get your canon raw files to open with CS2 you need to download the most recent version of ACR+DNG. See:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/
I cannot help too much, being more familiar with Windows, but the DNG converter does not need to be installed - it just simply works by pointing it at a folder of raw files.
The version of CS3 you tried probably didn't install with the most recent version of ACR, which is why it didn't work with your Canon files. ACR v4 is much improved over v3 - you might consider CS3. Another option, for approximately the same price of upgrading to CS3, is Lightroom (v2 in beta test). It offers a slightly different approach to digital photography that includes a library (i.e., database approach as opposed to Bridge's "browser" approach).
    HTH :)

  • Agendus and Centro are not compatible?

I moved from Treo 650 to Centro.  In the first month of my migration, my Centro was working just fine with all my third party applications including Agendus.  Then recently, my contact and dates would not synchronize.  After running DBFIX on my Centro, I realized that the culprit is Agendus.  Now I'm without Agendus.  I really like the way my data is organized in Agendus.  Is there anyway I can use Agendus with my Centro?

You can use Firefox 12.0 Portable Edition to access that website. <br />
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./
The Portable Edition version won't interfere with your regular Firefox installation allowing you to use Firefox 15.0.1 for everything else.
