Snow Leopard  and  Microsoft Office 2008

I just bought a $120 Office for Mac 2008 disk for my Macbook, but I was not notified about the new Operating System, I have already downloaded it, and cannot return it. My question is whether or not I will be able to install the new software I bought on Snow leopard.

Your printer is supported in Snow Leopard - see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01664444&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &jumpid=regR1002USEN
Note that your old HP utilities are not supported - you just use the built-in printing preferences pane in Snow Leopard. I just got my old PSC 2510 working, which was released at about the same time as your laserjet 1012.

I currently use Snow Leopard with Microsoft Word, Excel and Entourage on my iMac.  If I upgrade to Mavericks, can I still use those applications?

If the Microsoft Office is 2004 then no.
    Mavericks System requirements.

Note I would recommend a minimum of 4GB RAM.
You need to check all you software and hardware including any peripherlas you use, printers etc that they are compatible with Mavericks.
Any software that is PPC and uses Rossetta will not work with any OS X verson later than 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
If you decide to upgrade have a tested backup of your current system in case of problems and you could return the computer to its previous configuration.

  • Dreamweaver 8 and Microsoft Office 2008 for mac

    Hi everyone
Not sure if this is a Word or Dreamweaver problem.
    I am running Dreamweaver 8 on a G-5 OSX-Tiger.
I just installed Microsoft Office Home and Student 2008
    edition on my machine.
It install just fine, however when I need to paste a word
document into Dreamweaver it will not paste. If I go back to Word
2004 I can paste just fine.
    Anyone have any suggestions.
    Thanks so much

If you don't need it there is no reason to install it. Just depends really on what you will be doing if both would be good for you. Might want to wait on the second one untill you see if you need it or not.

  • Automator and Microsoft Office 2008 - step by step procedure needed

When I right-click on the desktop, I would like to have commands listed like:
    - New Microsoft Word document
    - New Microsoft Excel document
    - New RTF document
After selecting the option, I'd like to be given the option to name the file. After the file is created, I want to be able to double-click it no different than any other file and the associated application open up.
I've been told that this could be done through Automator though I don't know how to set it up, I need a step by step instruction. Would anybody be able to point me in the direction to get this setup?
I used to use a utility called NuFile though it hasn't been maintained for some time and the right-click options no longer work with Snow Leopard.

No. I've heard that complained about in the past, also. I was trying to stack everything up and pass to my applescript action as a multi-item list. It would be nice to see an action that would take a stacked set of input to use as Filename, source, destination. Just have a "take from input" option instead of the default asking--even 'use variable' would be nice. I was trying to use Applescript for most of that heavy lifting, but can't get past the issue I posted above.
Trying to combine the two functions of (no input or destination folder) did not work as you can only have one--If you select no input, clicking on a folder doesn't provide the Service, and if you select folders, the Service doesn't show in the Services menu if you actually don't have input.
I think the way to go would be a straight Applescript action that looks at the Finder Selection. If it is empty or the selection is not a folder, then use the front Finder Window as the destination and if it has a value, use that folder as destination. As stated, there is no way to make this work as a service unless you create two separate services for each document type.
Perhaps putting each applescript in the Finder Toolbar would be sufficient for the OP? Not quite a contextual menu, but as close as I think we can get.

  • Do Lion and Microsoft Office 2008 Conflict?

I went to a community group for Excel, and the answer I got to my problem indicated a Lion issue. Here is the issue:
I have Excel 2008. I created a document and saved it. Days later I added to the document and saved it. Days after that I added some more to it, and saved it again. But when I went to it today, it had only my original version, not any of my updates. So I experimented. I added the updates and saved it to the desktop. I opened it from the desktop, and my updates were there. I then saved it to the folder in which it stays by actually doing a Save As, navigating to the folder, and then clicking Replace. But it did not save my updates that way. I should not have had to that anyway, but it didn't save the normal way, so I tried that just to see if it would work. I have always just clicked Command+S on a regular basis and then before I close a document, and it saves automatically to the folder from which I opened it.
What is really making me anxious is that I do not know how many of my documents this malfunction affects. Since it has never behaved this way before, I thought it might have something to do with Lion, and that was confirmed by someone who had heard of a conflict between the two. But--what to do about????
Lion was installed on my new iMac, which I have only had for a few weeks. Normally I would wait for awhile to get a new OS. I hope it isn't Lion, but I suspect it is. And my work life depends on resolving this. Any help would be most appreciated.

Office 2008 has reportedly worked OK with Lion although I would doubt it's full compatibility. Office 2011 is fine with Lion.
Note that saving documents in Lion is not the same as previous versions of OS X. See OS X Lion- About Auto Save and Versions.

  • Why do symbols I insert into Word docs show up funny when I send the docs to others? I am using Mac OS X v. 10.6.8 and Microsoft Office 2008.

Whenever I insert a symbol (from Webdings, etc.) as a bullet or just an insert, it looks fine on my copy, however, when I send the document to someone else they tell me it shows up as a weird looking character, like a little number inside a circle. It has happened with several symbols I've used. Anyone know what the problem could be? Thanks!

Webdings and wingdings are non-standardized in terms of how they should be encoded and thus subject to the kind of problem you have encountered.  Best to use dingbats or other symbols found in the non-private-use ranges of Unicode in your Character Viewer.

  • Unable to install updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and MS Office 2008

This is a followup post to a nagging problem last fall that prevented successful installation of product version updates for Acrobat Pro 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2008 running under OS X v10.6.5. Days of fruitless, circular pursuit of solutions from both Adobe and Microsoft tech support provided no recognition of the problem…let alone an answer.
Fortunately, a few helpful techs at a nearby Apple Store yielded results. They were initially as perplexed as their counterparts but it gratified to this customer when each recognized the problem was real and was sufficiently motivated to track down a solution.
By process of elimination it was suggested: i) reinstall the original Snow Leopard 10.6.0 upgrade disk; ii) download the v10.6.5 combo update to bring the OS current; and iii) download and install the Acrobat and Office updates. It worked—perfectly—the first time.
The consensus seems to be that a combination of many successive installations of OS and product version updates eventually produced conflicting instructions resulting in stalemate.
Remarkably, it hasn't been necessary (or appealing) to perform a clean install since some point prior to the introduction of OS X. Nor has it since. A 'rollback' to the original Snow Leopard version with one subsequent update to the current OS version appears to have cleared out a nest of remnant conflicting instructions. Kudos to Apple's tech support and Occam's Razor.

    Hello,
You can download the Acrobat 9 updates manually by following link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows
However, PDF Maker plugin would not be enable in Outlook, as Acrobat 9 is not support with Office 2013.
Please refer to following compatibility chart:
Compatible web browsers and PDFMaker applications
You need to have Acrobat 11 to get PDF maker plugin in Office 2013.

Have you trashed the prefs? Go to your username>library>preferences and delete:
    com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
    PSE 4 settings
    PSE 4 paths
    Opera preferences
Repair permissions and try again. If it still crashes go to applications>PSE 4>plug-ins>import/export and delete the Adobe TWAIN driver (if you have an epson scanner it may not work after doing this)

  • Microsoft Office 2008 Won't Install On Snow Leopard

So I installed Snow Leopard last night, and everything's been going smoothly; that is, until I needed to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008. I uninstalled it when it was buggy, as I figured it was a simple issue that could be fixed with a reinstall, but now it refuses to even install.
I can get through the installer, up until the point where it tells me to select the components to install, and then when I click "Install"- nothing happens. Here's a video of exactly what's happening, to better diagnose the problem. (http://www.gynecologistcobra.net/misc/msinstallbug.html)Anyone care to help me figure out what's going on?
When I put the disk back in to install Rosetta, I got through it, until the end where it asked me to install. When I click it, the button greys out, then just goes back to normal and nothing installs, just like above. I don't know what's going on.

I can't. Whenever I click the lock to make changes in Accounts, nothing happens. Everything stays just like it was.

  • I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported.  How can I access all of my save Word documents?  I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004).  If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

Can anyone please help me I really need these programs for my work. Thank you!

    hi tuggerose
i think it is bad new for you. if it's any consilation i went through the same thing when i loaded mountain lion when it first came out. i think the problem is that mountain lion is a pure 64bit operating system and the software you have is 32bit. earlier os's were able to emulate 32bit but the new system does not. the answer is new software. i did it and it cost me a load of money and much angst so your not alone.

  • I downloaded Mountain Lion from being on Snow Leopard and lost my entire Office 2004 suite, including Entourage which was my main email server. If I download Office 2008, will I retrieve all my lost Entourage email folders?

    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.

  • Just installed snow leopard and office for mac - now my computer is running very slow.  Why?

I've recently installed snow leopard and office for mac - now my computer is running very slowly - why?

Which version of office did you install? If its 2008 the early version had some problems and you will want to update the office software to i think it is 12.3.0
If it is 2011 you might want to do the same thing.
